Here's a quick video to help you to set the input trim for a microphone on the T1®. This is called Gain Staging. The same principles apply for an instrument or line level input. Set the source to the highest level that you will need during the show, and then set the input trim so that you get solid green, occasional yellow flickers, and never see red. ... more T1® Videos ... more information about the T1 ToneMatch® Audio Engine STRead More...

Paul Schaefer's L1 Set Up

Today I had the privilege of visiting the David Letterman set and learning more about how Paul Schaefer is using the L1 Classic that you have seen beside him for years. The system is fed by a sub-mix of all of Paul’s keys and synths enabling him to hear himself clearly on stage. The band also has an in-ear monitor mix which enables them to talk among themselves and listen to songs as David Letterman is interviewing guests. There is also a printer attached to the laptop so they can print...Read More...

Creative L1 Compact Uses

Ok so it has been over a year since the release of the L1® Compact system and we continue to hear stories about the product being used from everything from military services to fitness classes. How about this for a creative use. Some have been known to call it a hat stand so .... Hi Folks, For the past few years, we've had discussions amongst the moderators and others about the idea of collecting our experiences in the performing arts (mostly live music) into some short essays that might help to disseminate the knowledge. The time has come to begin this effort. Each "lesson learned" will be a new thread, whose title will begin with "SUCCEEDING IN THE PERFORMING ARTS" followed by a colon and few words about the topic. We are completely comfortable, in fact we are...Read More...

L1 Model I - Preset 3.0 Patch (DJ's only)

Attention DJ’s using the L1™ model I system, We recently identified an isolated issue that only affects DJ’s that are using Preset #58 (High Volume Pre Recorded Music) on the L1™ model I system. It was discovered that L1™ model I power stands with a serial number less than 042829Z72550001AC did not accurately contain the advertised preset #58. This preset is specifically intended for DJ’s playing pre recorded music at higher volume levels. Instead, it contained a flat EQ setting which is...Read More...

Monday Night Song Ideas

Tom Munch
Everybody join in on ideas for songs on Monday night. Ken posted a bunch of ideas to get us started on the wiki. If there is a song that you've always wanted to do, or maybe a song that you "own" & would like to do - bring it on. Don't be afraid to do something obscure or interesting. (Keep in mind that the rhythm section will have to back you up, so we need chords - & don't make it too difficult.) Easy songs would be any blues-based tune like "Kansas City". Harder songs would be...Read More...

NATIONAL DJ ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT REVIEW

I just wanted to report on my first weekend of using my new BOSE system. I use the word power in parenthesis because two different meanings for the same word were revealed to me this past weekend. On Friday Night I had an event at my local NFL Stadium out on the field. I have done this event for the previous 4 years so this was my 5th and first with the BOSE system. The sound that came out of those two towers and 4 B1s was something like I have never heard before. It literally filled the...Read More...

This is an example of some of the old "Gems" which are turning up since the introduction of the new forum software. The words are as true now as they were then. Here's an example. My wife had a birthday party in January and I set up the Compact+T1 so that I could play easily for our guests and be heard anywhere in our living room which is L-shaped and about 50m2. Due to illnesses and bad weather forecast (snow) the party wasn't too big an affair and I could have played without amplification.Read More...

Hi ... Had a thought ... To gain more input channels, and still use the tonematch, what would be the best method, at all if recommended, of chaining two tonematch engines together? I have just purchased my second set of L1 MODEL 2 with B2 SUB without T1 to achieve my personal taste of stereo set up (I am not satisfied with source coming just from one speaker system. It lacks the feeling of musical immersion) and to be able to play (One Man Band with dance backing track) in front of 100 to 200 dancing crowd which my first BOSE MODEL 2 system can not handle. But my first test of the new system paired with my old system goes wrong. My new bose L1 will automatically shut...Read More...
Hi Komposer, Thank you for joining the Community. I'm sorry no one has replied yet. Are you seeing a red light on the power stand when this happens? Does the sound cut out and come back a second or two later? Your computers and TV probably draw less current than the L1®. They are also less likely going be vulnerable problems related to power. Are you moving your L1® to various locations? Does the L1® perform better or worse in different locations? Please let us know. Thanks, STRead More...

L1 Model 2 cutting out during performance

Hi Guys I recently upgraded to the L1 Model 2, I have used it twice since I bought it two weeks ago, I use the Compacts for most of my gigs but bought the Model 2 for the bigger gigs. I did a gig today in a village hall with around 120 attentive people in a cabaret style format, I know my Compacts would have done the job but I wanted to use the Model 2 to get a feel of it in a bigger venue. The performance was basically wrecked because the Model 2 kept cutting out and I don't know why. The...Read More...
Hi Nick Thank you for getting in touch. Yes I can confirm that I was not using the analogue input, the T1 was connected through the Tonematch Port. I wrongly said the analogue/trim LED was flashing because my fiancee said she saw a red light but when I set it up in my dining room to check it I noticed that it was actually the power LED that was going red and shutting the system down, not the trim LED. The odd thing is that when I simply play my backing tracks there is no apparent problem,...Read More...

Getting both channels to play through L1 system

Good Morning, I have recently purchased an L1 portable system for my classroom and for our concerts. Occasionally, we do listening exercises from the computer. There are times where only one channel is playing from the computer and the other channel sounds like it's coming out of a cave. How do I get both channels to play out of the one system and sound the same? Thank you for your time and help. Barry Snodgrass Director of Bands Sweet Grass County High SchoolRead More...
Hi Barry, The cave effect is usually caused from a stereo signal being connected to a balanced mono input. Basically what happens is that because the input is expecting a balanced mono signal, it knocks the two sides of the stereo signal out of phase. That results in a very hollow or reverberant sound. Now, when you say "channel", do you have two sources playing into the L1 system, or are you referring to the two channels of the stereo signal (Left and Right)? From your description, it...Read More...

L1 with b2 bass and Bose L1 Compact Portable Line Array

My question is, can the two be connected to get stereo effect? I also have the tone matchRead More...
Hi Royela, Thank you for your question, and I apologize for the delayed response. The short answer is yes, you can use two L1s to produce a stereo signal. You'll need a stereo source/mixer to accomplish this (the T1 ToneMatch is a mono mixer). But, I think what you're really asking is if you can connect two systems together for a fuller sound, not necessarily stereo. I'm assuming you have an L1 Model II and that you are using the standard "T1 cable" to connect the T1 ToneMatch to your L1...Read More...

Two issues with my L1 Model II

When powering up the unit, I get a mighty crackle/explosive sound from the amp (with all volumes down) , then a few minor crackles before it goes away and acts normal thereafter. What could cause this? Also, I am missing two knobs from my Tone Engine, the master knob and one of the channel output control knobs. Are these available?Read More...
Hi Leeinbim, Thank you for joining the Community. I'm sorry you are getting loud noises when you power on your L1® Model II. It should not be doing that. It sounds like it may need to be serviced. You should be able to get replacement knobs for your T1® through Bose Support. For both issues, please follow this link to locate the closest Bose Professional office . Thank you, STRead More...

House Concert Setup

Hi - looking for advice on a potential purchase... we host concerts in our living room usually 4-5 times/year. It is usually 1-3 artists and mostly acoustic singer/songwriter. A typical setup might be two vocals, one with a guitar and the other with a keyboard. The room is ~20x30 with high celings (~20ft) and wood floor. We have had as many as 80+ crammed in for a Young Life event, but a more typical crowd would be in the 30-50 range. We have been ok going unplugged in the past - the sound...Read More...
Hi DLR (Dudley Living Room?), Thanks for the information regarding the Facebook page. I've had a look and listen. I love the idea of living room concerts and have done several with my acoustic trio. To date all with a Compact (I didn't get my Model II until early 2016 when someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse on a used but never outside of the living room unit with a T1). The Compact was always enough, but we always used a small bass amp for the bass guitar. Nowadays I'd take the Model...Read More...

Dead Tonematch power supply?

After owning the L1 Series II for over a year, I tried the Tonematch separate power supply for the first time, and it doesn't seem to work (no power output). Is there a way to test it? The outlet is good and the Tonematch powers up just fine from the L1 power stand. All connections solid.Read More...
Hi jazzbikerguy, I'm sorry your T1 Power Supply is not working. I don't know of any easy way to test it. Please call Bose Support. They will help you. Bose® Product & Technical Support at (877) 335-2673 (U.S. and Canada only) Monday-Friday: 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM ET Thanks, STRead More...

Connect a digital piano to L1 Compact

Forum: Español
Hello I have a BOSE L1 Compact and would like to explain how to connect a digital piano to that systemRead More...
Hi Ruben, Thank you for joining the Bose Pro Portable PA Community. Most digital pianos have a mono output - often it is marked L/MONO. Use a 1/4"Tip-Ring-Sleeve cable (or 1/4" Tip-Sleeve cable if you don't have Tip-Ring-Sleeve) ¼ Inch Tip-Ring-Sleeve (balanced) to ¼ Inch Tip-Ring-Sleeve (balanced) A balanced connection is preferred and will provide better noise rejection over greater distances than the unbalanced connection. ¼ Inch Tip-Ring-Sleeve (unbalanced) to ¼ Inch Tip-Sleeve...Read More...

Solo Acoustic Performer

Greetings: I am a great Bose lover. I own L1 Model II with B2, L1 Model 1S System with B2. I have two Tone Match. I just purchased the F1 812 and plan to use it at my acoustic gig at wineries. I enjoy my Model II but it is getting a bit of a hassle to load and unload all the equipment and wanted something smaller. I had considered buying the LR Baggs Synapse when it finally comes out, but at $2000, I just didn't want to take a chance. So the F1 812 made more sense. I know what I'm getting...Read More...
Perhaps I might get a second F1 812 on the off chance I may need it. It is such an amazing system.Read More...

Preamp or gain device inline before the mic (or line) input on L1 Compact

On one of the forums somewhere I thought I read to the fact that one wants the signal as "hot" as possible prior to the input of the L1 Compact. So picture a Shure SM58 - xlr - Cloudlifter (+25db) - 48volt phantom box - to the mic input on the l1 Compact. Or another way... Shure 58 - xlr - DBX286s - xlr - mic input on l1 compact. In both cases we're just increasing the gain 25 db with Cloudlifter and up to 60 db with the 286s. I guess this would be coming into the L1 Compact as a Line input...Read More...
Y ou can use a preamp to raise the signal level going into the L1® Compact and run the channel volume control lower but this will not increase the maximum outut. Once you exceed the maximum output you will hear clipping distortion. Yes! This answers half the question.... If you want to add character, you can use a mic preamp/processor between the microphone and the L1® Compact input. If that's your goal, then use L1® Compact Channel 2 (1/4" Tip-Ring-Sleeve - it's a balanced input). With the...Read More...

MMA Fight PA setup

I thought I would share what setup I used for this event. I called Bose Tech support and Chris gave me this idea... Eq wise I bumped it up from 6k on a bit and also at 70hz I gave it a boost. It sounded sounded awesome!! Announcements were clear from everywhere I and I didn't even notice any phase cancellation while the music was being played. The room is rated for 350-400. Please excuse my quick drawing... 😀Read More...
