Running multiple F1 systems side by side

Does anyone have any experience with running multiple F1 systems side by side? We own 8 of these systems, and had an outdoor event that was supposed to only be around 1,100 people.. When we realized that it would be closer to 4k people, we panicked and used EVERYTHING WE HAD lol. The concert went smooth and sounded great, but I knew that we'd be introducing a nice amount of cone filtering due to the last minuet judgement call. There was some slight phasing issues, but not so much that we had...Read More...
Considering the premium that Bose charges for this product, I would look for a proper line array or tops that can be arrayed to increase coverage and output.Read More...

F1 subs "rumbling"

Nick from New Zealand
Hi team, Posting this on behalf of my friend Shaun. Live singer with a piano keyboard and backing tracks playing through some sort of small mixer. Dual F1 system, running out of mixer into sub, then out of sub into 812 top. Either left/right stereo, or dual mono - not sure. Old wooden floor, sounds like the floor was raised and on foundations, so basically "hollow" underneath - but not unique, pretty standard stuff for an old venue in New Zealand. Shaun has done about 50 shows with the F1,...Read More...
Sounds like something simple that could be challenging to diagnose. I would look for things like 60Hz loops, feedback from mics, etc. If possible, try to replicate the configuration using the same equipment, its not unheard of for little things like bad connectors, worn out cables, etc. to introduce noise into the system. Given that EQ didn't help, the culprit may be the mixer itself or somewhere past it towards the speaker inputs.Read More...

Hi Yodameater Worth checking out what polar pattern you have on your mic especially if you are running two speakers to the sides of you. With a single L1 behind you, you can use your body/head to great effect in cutting out direct radiation. With two speakers to your sides clearly you can't so you have to rely on tech. A tight polar pattern concentrating on the small area facing you from the mic is preferable. If you have a wide collection pattern you will pick up your own sound from the...Read More...

Noisy main outputs from T4S when using TRS 1/4" to XLR male to FOH

Hi all. On the T4S whenever I use TRS 1/4" to XLR male cables from the main outputs of the T4S to a mixer/FOH via XLR I can hear background noise , which resembles rumble and hiss. Even when all channels are muted, master volume down and nothing plugged in the inputs, I can still hear the noise. The headphone output does not contain the noise. I've tried different cables (Mogami Gold and Van Damme), and even a noise/hum eliminator in between the T4S and the FOH mixer, but still noise .Read More...
Hi obsidian, Thanks for the added information. The T4S outputs are line level. The outputs are too high for microphone level inputs. Allen Heath ZED16FX Please use the 1/4 inch (6.3 mm) LINE level inputs. The XLR inputs are for microphones. There is no signal attenuation on the MIC inputs. You must use the LINE inputs . Behringer X32 Try setting the input gain to -20dB OR connect the T4S to the Aux Return Channels (1-8). AER mobile 60 amp Be sure to set the line/mic switch is set to line .Read More...

Channel 1 Amber Led, No Solution Yet

Just got a second S1 Pro, plugged into ac wall outlet to charge for a day. With unit still plugged in, I tested speaker thru the Bluetooth connection. Speaker sounded like my first S1, so I figured I don’t need to check channels 1,2. I switched the power switch to off, unplugged iec side of power cord. Switched back on, ran on battery power just fine while streaming Bluetooth. I plugged iec side back in unit, music streamed without a Hiccup.Read More...

using L1 model II as FOH

Hi all I am trying to run 2 BOSE L1 systems as FOH for a 3 piece band. I connected the L1's to my presonus studiolive AR12 desk left and right main outputs to Bose system analog inputs on the power stands using XLR to mono jack leads but found that one system was louderthan the other.I had to turn up the trim control one the quieter one to about 3'oclock the the other had the trim control at about 12'oclock in order to get a similar amount of volume output from both systems. Am I usingthe...Read More...

Can I use a MarkBass Amp to power a B1 or B2?

I had problems with the Behringer B1200D sub woofer (2 actually) with my S1s. I was wondering whether I could take a line out of an S1 to the effects return of my MarkBass Little Mark 800 and use that with a B1, 2 B1s or a B2? Speaker placement

I have a pair of F1 speaker systems (including 2 812's and 2 subs). I have 4 big school proms coming up, each of them in a wide open gym. Assuming I will be placed near the wall, but in the center of the gym, with both speaker systems facing out toward the crowd, what is the best possible placement for them? Should they both be STRAIGHT out, or would it be better to aim them out in a V-shaped angle? Which setup would cause more noise cancellation issues? Also, since I'm on the floor (not a...Read More...
Hi Tony, Great. Thanks for the background information. That's helpful. The horizontal dispersion of the F1 Model 812 is 100 degrees for the mid-high frequences. The low frequencies are omnidirectional. Keeping the horizontal dispersion in mind, aim the F1 Model 812s so they cover where the people will be with the least amount of overlap. There's no perfect way to do both so there will always be some overlap. The potential for cancellation is in the area where the sound fields of the two F1...Read More...

Opinion on unconventional speaker placement

I understand the first rule of speaker placement is “just try it” but I would like to get some informed opinions on a unique situation I have on an upcoming show. I host a private house concert series. Our room is 13x30x 8, and we seat 40 people. Our sound is provided by a Bose L1 Model II / B2 Bass Module using a Soundcraft UI16 digital mixer. The venue is https://olivestreethouseconcerts.com/ Our next show almost exceeds our capacity. It is five musicians on stage including upright bass,...Read More...
Hi Rob, If this was a bar/restaurant/nightclub I would say, based on personal experience, forget about it. But, it's not. If it is a true listening room, and your audience is respectful and quiet, you can pull this off, at least I think you can. Assuming the band uses the same positioning as shown in the picture, they are used to being in close proximity to one another. I would not ask or expect them to change what they normally do. A big part of live music is the visual. That's why people...Read More...

B2 speaker switching problems

wfs
I have an L1 model 2 with the B2 sub. The B2 has a 3-way rocker switch, and my B2 speaker only operates in the middle mode. I understand that this is a software issue. However, after a number of downloads, etc. it is still not working correctly. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. My Tonematch and my L1 powerbase unit have indicated that the software update worked....but I really don't have any way of verifying the upgrade. Using T1 Tonematch to run FoH and monitor

Hi guys I've been through this before and ST did explain it very well once but I have lost all the information, basically I have a gig coming up on the 6th April at a rather large Town Hall with around 180 people, all of whom will be seated for part of the performance and then ready to jive after their meal. I shall be using my L1 M2 and B2 and as the venue is a fair size I had thought about placing the L1 front of house and using either one of my compacts or my S1 as a monitor but I just...Read More...
Hi Geoff, Terrific! It sounds like you understand the Levels concept. Dry - the only thing you can control is the Level. Next time try Post After Fader If you're happy running through T1 Channel 4/5 - keep doing that. No, the L1 Model II Power Stand Analog Input is balanced mono. It doesn't convert stereo to mono. Connecting a stereo source to a balanced mono input doesn't work. For details see: Can a stereo signal be used with the L1 Analog Input . If you're happy running through T1 Channel...Read More...

Hi hsilva, Your posting caught my eye. This may not be 100% relevant but when I set up in a venue that requires more than my L1 Compacts can deliver I have often set up in the following manner: I run a balanced line from my Tonematch main out to one of my Compacts which serves as a monitor behind me. I then run a balanced line from the Compact output at the back to one of my powered speakers using a 1/4" to XLR, and from that to a second powered speaker, These FOH speakers are set flat and...Read More...

Anyone else have issues with Behringer B1200D Subwoofer?

My first one arrived with low output and sound like it had a blanket over it. I returned it. I received my replacement and it sounded great for about 10 minutes. I went to get a guitar to plug into it and when I got back to it, there was a smell in the air and the sound went to hell like the first one. No local warranty repair, so it has to go back. Can I possibly be the only one having issues with these things? ThanksRead More...
My first one sounded like that out of the box. The second one, something definitely went on it because the sound before and after was so completely different. And the smell. Now when I move the knob to change the crossover frequency, there's no difference as I move it.Read More...

Using Mac OS 10.13.6 - unable to use T8S Firmware Udater

Greetings, Any suggestions to resolve this issue would be appreciated. I just purchased a T8S Mixer and am attempting to update the firmware as directed. Dents in F1 812 front mesh covers

I stupidly let someone else carry one of the F1 tops on Saturday and now there are dents in the bottom two panels on one of the speakers. The metal is very soft and bends easily. Is it possible to remove these covers and straighten them? They had third party covers on (Bose ones far too expensive) but still got damaged even through the padding.Read More...

L1 model 2 hack advice needed - smaller footprint

Bose makes it impossible to attach the speakers to the base without first extending the legs. Once the units are connected, the legs cannot be folded back in. Ok, I get that this is for reasons of safety and stability. However, I must find a way to decrease the enormous 26 x26 footprint this unit makes. I'd like to figure out how to either modify the base so that the speakers attach with the legs folded in, OR build a jumper cable that would allow me to wall mount the speaker unit and place...Read More...

Adjusting Trim, Volume and Feedback

I am a member of an acoustic duo. I know very little about sound system management. We need help! We are using an L1 II, B1 and 2 Tone Match 1 units. Truly Acoustic Guitars

I’m thinking seriously about buying a Bose L1Compact, but I have one important question. Whenever possible, I like to perform with truly acoustic guitars (no transducers, pickups, etc). I always like playing in clubs where the sound people know how to find the sweet spot for a microphone in front of a guitar (these folks are generally old enough to be dinosaurs, like me). So . . . Will the Bose L1 function properly with a mic (with a 1/4 inch jack plugged into the instrument channel)? Or...Read More...
Hi ST, Thanks for this information. When it comes to miking an acoustic guitar, I would consider 4 inches close miking, especially when compared to where the best sound is found when recording, which is more likely in the 8 to 12 inch range and not necessarily in front of the sound hole. For live performance use, the best location is in front of the sound hole, the same place where the playing hand is working. The finger stylist fares better than a strummer for working space, but worse when...Read More...
