Upright Bass EMI-Sounding Buzz Through PA (Audio Link) - I've Tried Everything?

Wow... I'm baffled. Anyone have any troubleshooting ideas? PROBLEM : Upright bass produces twangy "buzz" (like EMI interference) when upright bass strings are played. Replaced all cables (mic, DI, speaker, etc.). All are balanced. Lifted ground. Isolated PA speaker (Bose L1) from surface. Changed microphones (lav, SDC hand-held, SM57 mounted under tailpiece). Also tried a piezoelectric pickup - same problem Removed L1 extension unit. Tried different channels on mixer. Removed everything that...Read More...

Dual Systems

Hi, I have a L1 IS with a B1. I am considering buying a second system to use in a dual system configuration, for very large venues and/or audiences over 300. And, to also have as a back up system. My questions - 1. If I purchase a Model II with a B2, how will that work in a dual configuration with my Model I? I am guessing I will need to even out the bottom end by adding another B1 to my Model I, but will I get a good even sound by having a Model I on the left and a Model II on the right? 2.Read More...
Hi Steve J, Yes. Just make sure the XLR to 1/4" adapters are 1/4" TRS (vs. 1/4" TS unbalanced) to maintain a balanced connection. Thanks, MattS-at-BoseRead More...

Gig setup question

Hi all, Have a gig coming up in a place I haven't been before, but a bandmate gave me an idea of the size of space we have and it's not huge. My plan is an L1 Model II w/B2 for the bass guitar on the right of the drums, and L1 Model II w/B1 on the left with mainly my guitar. I'm using a Mackie DL1608 so the lead vocal will be a smidge panned right (1:00) and my vocal in my L1 MII at 11:00. The lead vocalist will also play guitar on a few songs and I'll pan the guitars at 9:00 for mine and...Read More...
ST, for those small jazz gigs, look at the Tech21 Flyrig pedals. All analog, the amp section sounds great and you can set the drive control to dial in a bit of dirt, very much like a Fender Twin. Also you could keep it clean and add the dirt in the distortion section. Also has Reverb, Delay with a chorus function, 1/4" in and out and power plug. It's about 10"x 2.5". Easily fits in a case or bag and it weighs next to nothing.Read More...

Bose L1 System II zerrt

Forum: Deutsch
Hallo. Read More...
Read More...

L1 Repair

I purchased my L1 a couple years ago, and within a month-or-so of the purchase the cap or coupling to the 1/4" input broke; it is made of plastic! I immediately contacted the store where I purchased the unit, Guitar Center, and they said I was out of luck and to contact you about repairs - although they warned me it would be costly and take awhile. In short, they were not very helpful nor hopeful. Anyhow, I have found ways of working around the issue but would prefer to have it in proper...Read More...

F1 812 hiss

812 Owners I just purchased two new F1 812s. Does anyone else have a white noise type sound from 5kHz to about 9kHz when the F1s are turned on, with all inputs open, gains set to zero and input set to Line? It's low level and would not be noticeable once music or singing begins for a live band or DJing but it definitely raises the noise floor and would most likely be noticeable sitting close to the 812s in a very quiet room. (such as a conference or play/drama, etc.) Just curious if this is...Read More...
Hi SoundGeek, I first started using PAs around 1970 and over the years have heard and used many different types of PA systems from the basic power mixer with a couple of loudspeakers right up to processor controlled systems. Even the really modern state of the art systems. They've all got one thing in common. When they're switched on there is always an audible hiss. Sometimes you can hear it from a way off, sometimes you have to get up really close to the loudspeakers to hear it. But it will...Read More...

First Post - Question on Hook Up and TC Helicon VoiceLive3X

Hi folks. I am new here; just ordered the L1s/B2/T1 from Sweetwater, in addition to the TC Helicon VoiceLive3X and a Neumann KM 105. For anyone familiar with TC Helicon processors, what is the best way to connect the signal chain? Would you connect to the T1 first and then out (pre or post T1 EQ) and then route as an effects unit to the VL3X and back into the T1 on another channel, or would you run through the VL3X first and then to the T1? What has the best sound, best pre amps, best head...Read More...
And my music is Italian operatic/pop in the style of Andrea Bocelli. I may accompany myself on guitar on a few tracks just for a little variety, together with backing tracks played from an external player or imported directly into the VL3X.Read More...

Inside the Bose B2 bass module

Hello all, I have been an L1 user since 2012, but have been a Bose user since 1996. (Using the Bose 802 series II) I have been browsing these forums since around 2008 and just thought I'd share a video I made opening the Bose B2 bass module. I hope someone out there would like to volunteer opening their F1 subwoofer for us to see! https://youtu.be/ISgyDoOlB_c Best regards, CrisRead More...

Packing L1 Model II

How should the Model II stand and speakers be packed in the carrying bags? Do you have an illustration? Thank you.Read More...
Hello jazzy16, We do not have an illustration. However, it should be fairly self-explanatory how the bags fit. A few tips are the array front grilles should face up toward the handles (to prevent grille denting when bags are rested on a floor) and the top of the power stand should face up toward the Bose logo on the power stand bag (this orients the inside pocket resting against the bottom). Thanks, MattS-at-BoseRead More...

Martin 00-28

Forum: Solo Acts
Hi all well after much amazing advice from the members on this forum I dived in and bought my first L1. A model 2 with a B1 (for now) and T1. We ( my wife, singer and I, guitar) have done a couple if small cocktail/garden party type gigs and all I can say is wow! Truly amazing. Easy to carry, setup, use and take away. And sounds fabulous. so now for some tuning.... I play a Martin 00-28 and am struggling a bit to find 'that sound'. Maybe I expect too much but with all that processing power...Read More...

multi effects

Forum: Solo Acts
Hi, just got a Boss ME 80 multi effects and although I'm quite happy with the clean sounds through the T1, the distortion sounds are not so good. Has anyone else got this problem? I'm thinking on using a small amp and micing it but that means more gear to lug around. Any ideas ?Read More...
Hi Eddie, thanks for the reply. Please let us know how you get on. Every bit of info you can give us here may be of help to someone with a similar problem at a later date. Also feel free to ask further questions as and when they may arise. Nothing is for nothing. You should, however reap the benefits of the time you put in here. I've had to do it every time I changed my my system. (POD, POD XT Live, TC-Helicon VoiceLive3, Kemper Profiler). It's always paid dividends. You're more than...Read More...

FIrst Sunday Service with new L1 1S system review

So we just had our first Sunday morning service with our new L1 1S system. We went with the B1 sub and a T1 mixer. Music consisted of one acoustic guitar and vocal followed by the pastor giving a message. The system did a great job filling the room with sound. There's a learning curve with this system I need to get over. I'm not accustomed to having such a high level of clarity. It's almost overwhelming at first being able to hear every nuance (and error) in the sound amplification. Like...Read More...
Hi Jim, Welcome to the forum. I followed your thread "Help with product selection, PLEASE" but as ST was giving you all the information you needed I didn't want to confuse the issue for you. Thanks for coming back with your first "gig report". In my opinion, you'll not find a better system for filling a room with than an L1 system. I'm glad that you're happy with this aspect of the L1S. There's a learning curve with every system. I find, however that the T1 makes it much easier for beginners...Read More...

using a drum machine

I'm currently using a L1 compact, I use a Fishman artist acoustic amp with a direct out to the Bose line input, I get a great concert like tone with the Fishman as a master amp and the Bose as a slave, but I also use the Beatbuddy drum machine plugged directly in the L1 using the RCA inputs, I'm not getting the thump sound for the kick drum, can anyone give me advice? maybe I should invest in the T1 mixerRead More...
Thanks for the info, I'll more than likely purchase the T1 mixer to make my system complete, I'm sure there is a preset for drum machines in the T1 mixer.Read More...

AKG D5 Preset

Hi ~ Apologies in advance, as I have not read EVERYTHING in this forum, so if this has been discussed send me there please. Any help appreciated, In advance, THANKS craigRead More...
Hi Craig, Welcome to the forum. It's always nice to "meet" new members. ST's already given you some advice regarding the microphone presets so I'll leave that part alone. You say that you have a "Lyric" in your Santa Cruz OM. By this I take it that you mean the LR-Baggs lyric pick-up. I know that there are no presets for the LR-Baggs Anthem and Lyric pick-ups in the T1. I've been using an Anthem in my Seagull Artist Studio guitar since they first came out (2010?). With the Bose T1 I've found...Read More...

L1 Compact audience coverage

Hello, I am considering purchasing an L1 Compact, and have a question. My understanding is that the L1 Compact speaker array needs to be at the same height as the audience. I sometimes perform on same floor level as audience, but other times I may be up on a stage several feet higher than the audience. Is this likely to be a problem, with the sound being directed out and over their heads? Most speakers would provide SPL for quite a ways below the level of the speaker, but it sounds like the...Read More...
Thanks ST, I appreciate the tips and helpful information. My main dilemna is that as I said, RIGHT NOW most of my shows have audiences up to around 150, but I anticipate having larger sizes in future, and I have also never performed in a gym setting. So for right NOW, it would be hard to purchase one and try it out because I wouldn't have the opportunity to try it under the conditions I'm questioning. And I agree, the people I have gotten "feedback" from (no pun intended), have no reason to...Read More...

L1 Compact coverage

I have a second question which I'll post separately here rather than combining it with my first question since the topic is a little different. It looks like the L1 is rated/designed for audience sizes up to about 100 people. is that related more to the size of a typical room which is anticipated to hold an audience that size, or directly related to actual number of people (absorbing the sound waves etc). The reason I ask, I know MANY performers who use this system for similar performances...Read More...
Hi Marlin, The Compact does a great job for me up to 100 people in lots of settings. It's also done a great job for me in much larger settings under ideal circumstances (concert setting with an attentive audience). But I would not tell you to expect that in a noisy pub. Another factor that will impact what you can realistically do will be the number of microphones that you have connected to the L1® Compact. This will directly affect the gain-before-feedback. I don't think anyone has any...Read More...

What is the recommended audience Bose F1 can handle?

correct inputs or no?

Small venue combo, 4 piece, running three vocal mics, two instrument mics and a digital piano mixed down through a Behringer QX1202, main outs summed to the RCA inputs of the L1 Compact. Trying to isolate problems with volume cuts and swells. L1 Model II hiss and bleed over

Hello I just purchased a used L1 model II with B2 Bass (no tone match). When i turn it on it is very quiet but when i plug in the 1/4 inch plug from my mixing board to the stand i start getting a hissing sound. I have the volume at the 12 o'clock position. I use virtual dj on my laptop. my laptop has a usb connection to the Numark DJ/IO. There is a rca connection from the dj/io to my mixer and then i run an xlr to 1/4 inch to the base of the L1. Hi topcop12, Good find! We don’t recommend specific brands or models for non-Bose equipment. However, try to go with a reputable brand that has the features you like. If at all possible, get one with a balanced line level output with switching or settings for mono (or sum to mono in the software or DJ/IO settings if available). The Model II, being one speaker plays in mono so we want the setup to provide left and right stereo summed to mono so everything is heard through the L1. Thanks, ...Read More...

L1 Compact - Volume Lowers during playback of Song

I have been using the system for about a month and have experienced intermittent volume dropping off during a song. It may happen one or two times a night while performing and sometimes I go through a night with no problems. Has anyone seen this problem? I Have R & L outputs of my mixer going into...Read More...
Hi Thom, A couple more questions for greater understanding. Are you playing all instruments, switching from one to another, or are there other players? The addition of one, two, or three more instruments, especially louder acoustic instruments as the sax can be, can create the perception that other musical parts are lower, as well as the possibility of a very real drop in volume based on the addition of more signal into a system that is set to a particular power / volume level. I'm not sure...Read More...
