February 2018

I have had the S1 Pros for some time now and feel that this is very important to bring up. I have done many tests with the S1 Pros as well as a few gigs and have noticed something that I touched in my S1 Pro Review post, but now I would like to talk directly about my findings. I feel this data is very important since this unit is being advertised as a PA system and also includes Bluetooth. For those of you who are live performers this issue probably will never affect you. The S1 Pro has...Read More...
Hi Andy, Welcome. Thank you for joining the Bose Portable PA Community. The S1 Pro systems come with a two year warranty. If you don't push them into audible distortion (exceed your limits) you should be fine. That sounds like a good plan. Others have run their S1 Pro systems with an F1 Subwoofer and gotten good results. See: S1 Pros as Front of House with F1 Subwoofer STRead More...

S1 Pro and the Tonematch

sparkysings
As good as the S1 Pro sounds on it's own, I just did a thorough run through with T1 connected to the S1 Pro and it sounds fantastic. I thought I might save a few minutes in set up by going direct and still may do that for some jobs, but now that I've heard it with the T1......I'm sold!Read More...
Yes, that's what I would do. Connect the iPhone via a 1/8" to 1/4" cable from the iPhone to the T1. The T1 gives you excellent control over the music. Far more than a simple Bluetooth connection.Read More...

Daisy Chain S1 Pro to L1 Compact or vice versa?

Question: 80% of my time my current setup and configuration works perfectly; both from a sound and portability (setup timing) etc. 20% of the time I perform at larger venues and since I already own a L1 Compact; I Rent an additional L1 Compact and daisy chain the pair (unbalanced 1/4") No Issues. With the Introduction of the S1 Pro, and all the advantages I have read in this forum - Question: would you use the S1 Pro as the Primary and daisy chain to the L1 Compact or vice versa. Note: I'm a...Read More...
As always Thanks ST - all good points. I have started to perform for larger audiences so 2 L1 Compacts seem to be the better solution especially when you have a dancing crowd...the low ends much better. I do like the SP Pro but have never used with battery pack and I only used it as my secondary source left everything on Flat and the ToneMatch Off. Thanks againRead More...

Reconsidering Stereo

ST
I'm reconsidering stereo for small venues. A little history I used to run stereo for my electric guitar (with loads of effect), but I set that aside in June 2004. I remember that distinctly because that's when I got my first L1®. Since then I've run multi-mono. That means I run every sound source on the stage through only one loudspeaker. In the early days, that meant one L1® for each performer. I appreciated the Cocktail Party Effect and veered away from stereo for guitars. I was using L1®s...Read More...
As ever, many thanks ST for your prompt reply! You have already very kindly pointed this out to me before and I am aware of the fact I won't get any significant volume increase. The older models don't have the vari angle speaker configuration of the later models so I'm hoping if nothing else I will have a somewhat "bigger" sound! I can only afford older s/h units so to be honest if I source them on eBay I can almost certainly sell them again for what I paid if I don't feel it's worth it...Read More...

T8S Analog vs Digital Connection to L1 Model 1S and Model II

ST
Some people have expressed concern because the T8S ToneMatch mixer does not have ToneMatch (digital) connections to L1 Model 1S and L1 Model II. I've taken the time to test this carefully. To my ears, there is no audible difference between the digital and the analog connections. The background and some notes about how I tested follow below. The best way I know to detect differences in sound is to do an A/B switch back and forth instantly. Even a few seconds between listening events can lead...Read More...

My S1 Pro Battery Test & Review

Musicianthomas
With S1 Pro threads all over the place wasn't quite sure where to post my results with installing, charging, and using the battery, so just started this one. My power longevity test also involved a new 500 Watt power generator to run my Voicelive 3 Extreme, a Pigtronix Infinity Looper, a Helicon Corona Chorus, a Baggs DI, and the T1, before going into the S1 Pro, but those successful generator results are for another post and will be of more interest to buskers etc needing a good portable...Read More...

S1 Pro while waiting for the Bose Backpack

ST
I noticed a funny coincidence. The dimensions of the S1 Pro are almost the same as the original Apple MacIntosh. S1 Pro system 13.0" H x 9.5" W x 11.2" D Wt 14.5 lbs $2,495 ($6,071-2018) MacIntosh 13.6" H x 9.6" W x 10.9" D Wt 16.5 pounds $599 It was a happy similarity for me. I have a great padded bag with carrying handle and shoulder strap. It'll do fine until the Bose S1 Pro Backpack is available. STRead More...
FYI: This bag available on Amazon and Ebay used and new. Some priced below $99 but watch out for the postage cost which can take you near or above the $99. As for me, I'm holding out for the backpack...Read More...

L1® Compact - what do I need to add more sound (louder)

Hi, I am very new to all this and this forum, it fact I only doing this on my daughters behalf. She has just started gigging and she's has the following setup , Shure SM58 mic , T1 tone match and two l1 compacts and an ipad for backing tracks. We are really delighted with the L1 compacts and we are still working out the T1 settings but are a bit concerned that they will not be loud enough for larger gigs. We have had no complaints at the moment with social club gigs around 100 people...Read More...
we're kinda on the other end of this...as an audio rental company we seldom send gear out without own tech...just because i don't trust folks not to blow up a rig...so when 2 dudes on a stool want to rent a rig and take it with them, we tend to send them out with old school Mackie 450s or QSC K12s I guess it's cause the bose seem so small and lightweight..not to mention pricey, that I am protective of them... love using them when it's our hands on the faders but i tend to feel for the...Read More...

Feel free to share your pictures of the S1 Pro in use! This picture actually turned out to be a bit of an optical illusion... lol the S1 looks huge since it is set several feet infront of me... Dang! You guys (Others) definitely need to purchase/make some shorter cables. That's a lot ( yards and yards?) of tangle lying back there. Yeah, I've found elevating the Compact, in most situations, improves the over all sound as well. I often put it on a table top with no extension. That seems to provide the most balanced sound, and it still covers the room nicely.Read More...

S1 Pro as vocal monitor feeding T1 to L1 Compact

cc407
I just received the S1 Pro and I am very impressed. I will use it in several ways. There will be times that I use it as a stand-alone PA, either with acoustic guitar and voice, or with a T1 with my acoustic duo, and with the impressive sound, it will be my go-to acoustic guitar amp. My first use is about a month away, as my Duo morphs into a Trio. The duo has used my L1 Compact with the T1 Mixer, to great results. With the Trio, we are adding an acoustic bass. I want to have a single source...Read More...
I tried this scenario with my trio. The vocals through the S1 Pro translated well to the L1 Compact. The 2 guitars to T1 were fine. The acoustic Bass to T1 (T1 to L1 Compact) did NOT work too well. A line-out from L1 Compact to digital recorder was heavily dominated by Bass. I suppose I can play around with this, but I think we will try a different set-up.Read More...

Connecting Mac Book Air with tracks to Mackie FX12V2 mixer

I have been told that I should use the 9/10, 11/12 left inputs with unbalanced 1/4 " plugs to get stereo music from the Mac-through the Mackie and out the 2 Bose L1 Compacts. I can only get the music from red and white RCA cables into the tape RCA connection. I need to be able to set some treble, bass and reverb from the Mackie. Any help would be appreciated. T4S / T8S and USB Audio Questions

So upon further review lets talk more about the T4S. The USB audio input can be used for songs between sets. On my current T1 I have to use a channel so this is great because it frees up a channel. So the question for ST here is, will the mixer play the songs on the stick automatically one after the other for example during breaks? I read where you can pick the songs you want to play which is great for specific events that want specific music, but for us giggers, I just need music to play...Read More...
Thanks for the Research and responses to my questions. One of the things I love about BOSE. Incredible people to work with and amazing service, none better. They are like trusted friends....I know exactly how they sound so it should be very interesting to hear how much better the T4S sounds. Incremental...Read More...

That's a very extensive and informative review Methos....thanks! I used the S1Pro in a smaller venue....an upstairs upscale taproom and the results were very good. It was a noisy but also very attentive audience and so I was definitely dealing with room noise I do not have in the practice studio. So likely I'm still needing to learn how to tweak and adjust on the fly a bit better. Experience will take care of a lot of that. Hi all- Long time lurker first post- Ive ordered a Bose L1 model II with B1 and the new T4S mixer for my solo acoustic act. S1 Pros as Front of House with F1 Subwoofer

Hello ST and the Bose Community, I was able to get a test at a live gig yesterday. VENUE: Local Winery, in the winter I play indoors and in smaller room upstairs. I would say the room is about 40 X 50 and opens up to a larger room on the side. Attentive crowd at best although our band seems to get the crowd up and moving and there was much dancing by the end of the gig!! I have used an Model L1s with B2 many time in the past and it worked great in this room. There was about 50 or so in the...Read More...

Considering T4S/T8S Stereo Options

snakehips
Hi there ! Not been on the Bose forum for quite some time but I have just noticed there are some new Tonematch mixers. i have a blues acoustic duo, and we bought one Bose L1mkII, two B1 bass modules, and each use a T1 Tonematch mixer, about 8yrs ago - and love using them. In some pub gigs, with a small PA system already set up, and no room to set up the L1 additionally, we have often used just our Tonematch mixers with the in-house PA and still got great results. Our Tonematch mixers are...Read More...
Hi again, Thanks very much for your help so far. When my bandmate and I bought our Bose L1 mkII system, with a Tonematch mixer each, I was amazed at the available help online from Bose, for the Tonematch mixer (including the virtual Tonematch page and the Bose forum AND helpful staff like yourself). With all those available online tools, I already knew how to operate and even program my Tonematch mixer, for how I was going to use it, before I even got it !! That was circa 8-9yrs ago, and I...Read More...

S1 Pro Speaker Stand recommendations?

Hello Brandon, After I purchased two S1 Pros, I was looking for a good solution that would allow me to downsize my setup and load in and ended up settling on the On Stage SSP7750 speaker stands. Much more compact than the standard Speaker stand while not as compact as the "mini' stands. In addition to the S1 Pros, I really like them as I can also use them for my 812s (The hold up to 60lbs) and the height can go up to 5' (Can easily match the height of the 812 on an F1/Sub stack for...Read More...

T1/T4S Tonematch or TC Helicon Mic Mechanic 2 ?

Forum: Vocals
Hi guys, I am asking recommendation on these 2 units from people who tried them. I am a singer/guitarist, own a S1 Pro and use it for live gigs and for busking outside. I am looking at the best option that could fit both venues. For Busking, I could go away with the S1 Pro alone if it weren't for its ugly reverb. Especially on the vocals you need some reverb to sound good in open spaces. Thus I've been looking at the Mic Mechanic 2 from TC Helicon, which seemingly has a nice reverb plus...Read More...
Robin, Not exactly what you are after, but... I am having great luck combining the Boss VE-8 and the Bose S1 Pro. The VE-8 gives me two channels, one for guitar and the other for a mic, both with terrific processing and effects. It also has a looper for the guitar and the mic, if you use those. The VE-8 runs on six AA batteries. I use rechargeable batteries, and I swap them out at 5 or 6 hours. I run from the headphone out of the VE-8 into the aux in on the S1 Pro using a sturdy cable that I...Read More...
