@Ric and ST I did my gig 2 nights ago set up as stated above and it worked perfectly.I got numerous compiments on the sound quality. Bad guitar sound (Gretsch)

I have an L1 Compact and ToneMatch mixer. Normally I output my Gretsch G5420 through a TC Electronic VoiceLive 3 Extreme and Boss Katana 100 amp but I'd like to be able to play the guitar through the L1 alone (less gear to carry), but it sounds awful. I've tried all the settings on the ToneMatch but they all sound like lifeless thuds. The VoiceLive 3 gives amp simulation and sounds great through the Katana. Is there anything I can do to improve the guitar sound through the L1?Read More...

Reverb on new T4 & T8s Tonematch

Hi There, I just took delivery of the new Bose T8s today.. I loved the T1 and was delighted by the thought of an extra 4 channels.. On getting everything connected up I'm very disappointed to find the changes to the Large reverb... it doesn't sound as warm or full as the one on the T1? wondering is there any way to download the original reverb onto the T8s? I really don't like the sound & response of the new reverb at all... very disappointed...Read More...

Channel vs Master Volume settings on T1

Looking for some guidance on where my Channel Volumes should be vs my Master Volume on the T1 should be set i.e. Do I turn the Channel Volume up high over half way and then slowly turn up Master Volume until desired volume level? Or do I turn Master Volume up to half or 3/4 and leave it there while turning up Channel Volumes to desired volume level? This question is stemming from an issue I have been having while using the T1 with my S1 Pro (acoustic guitar and SM 58 plugged in). I am...Read More...

Feedback in small bars

roberttee
Hi. I have an acoustic duo (2 acoustic guitars, two mics) and we use the Bose L1 Compact with the Tonematch mixer. When we are in a large space or outdoors, the system sounds fantastic. But when we are in tight quarters, I am getting feedback, even when I move our mics to the side. I bought my unit used, so I can't say for sure how the previous owner had it set up, and I'm no expert on EQ settings. I was under the impression that we could stand almost right in front of the unit and not get...Read More...

2 B1s in place of B2

Hello fellow Bose enthusiast. I have a L1 M2 and I was thinking of retiring my B2 with much regret, as I love the sound. I can't deal with the weight and size with my shoulders. I'm a solo guitarist and vocalist. I play acoustic and electric. I use a Trio to make my backing tracks. The bass, drums and various keyboards, sound awesome through my current configuration. I don't D J though I have used it a number of times in theaters and outdoors events. I'm worried that the system will loose...Read More...

Bose S1 Pro - Gig Report in a clubhouse

Hi gang Just thought I'd post some details about my recent gig using just my S1. It was a smallish venue, one of those retirement villages with their own little clubhouse which will hold around 100 at capacity. I've played the venue before so I knew the layout, I arrived with one Compact and my S1, which I always have onboard. On arrival they explained that due to flu and weather only 45 were coming so I decided just to use the S1, the thought of a five minute break-down ready for the two...Read More...
Yeah totally agree. I have the S1 Pro and two Compacts and also the M2 with B2 so all my PA needs are pretty well covered. Sure is great to have a choice. I agree about the L1 M2, that thing packs a hefty punch, especially with the B2....wow!! I have to admit that I do actually have quite a fondness for my Compacts, especially both set up together and running in stereo from my T4s, the sound is pretty inspiring. Somebody once said they thought it was a CD playing, they didn't realize it was...Read More...

Success/failure stories

I am playing a venue tonight and will use my L1M2, B1, T8S (guitar and vocals only). Sometimes I wonder if my S1 Pro will handle some of my bigger gigs. I often think I can get away with using the S1 instead of hooking up the L1M2... But always chicken out. Does anyone care to share any success stories on the different types of (bigger) venues their pro has shined? I know there are lots of factors at play here that can change sound...but if anyone has a story or two where ONE S1 Pro...Read More...

Bose S1 Pro on Fox5 San Diego!

My musician long time friend Jim Gibson was on Fox5 San Diego using one of his Bose S1 Pro units. The techs had been up since 2AM in the morning trying to figure out how to get an audio feed and power several hundred feet from the Gator by the Bay venue and Jim had them plug directly into his Bose S1 Pro. Fox5 San Diego has since purchased several Bose S1 Pro's as solutions for remote video and were blown away by the sound. Here's a video of the news segment. T8S to LI -- The Main Out Does Not Have A Mono Option -- Does it?

When I connect a single balanced 1/4 inch cable to the Right/Mono out from the T8S to the analogue input on the LI.... Inputs 2 and 3 are from Mainstage via my MacBook Pro via a 1/8th inch output from the Mac to 2 Quarter Inch in's to channel 2/3 of the T8S. If I PAN channel 2 to the LEFT, it goes away completely in the LI--If I pan it RIGHT, it gets louder. (Same is tru if I use either one of the XLR OUTS) Shouldn't there be a way to get a MONO sound from the T8S to the LI? Ok, yes, I can...Read More...
Man, thanks so much for the detailed replies! I really appreciate the feedback. I think I'm beginning to understand the T8S better. While the "Big Knob" is interesting--I would prefer not to add more gear into the mix. And I guess I could experiment with using one of the auxes for my mono out (and just get used to tweaking the Aux gain out "in the heat of the battle")---but it seems to make more sense to maybe just add another speaker to my set up if I'm going to run Stereo, and send a...Read More...

Performing with the L1 Model II

Stan the Saxman
Hello fellow L1 users. I want to share an experience I had this past June that typifies my experience with the L1 product line. I am a solo entertainer. I sing and play alto/tenor sax. Most of my repertoire consists of Jazz Standards. I live in NE Ohio. My venues include restaurants, wineries, country clubs, weddings, parties, corporate events and festivals. I have been a Bose user since 2006. I currently have the L1 classic, 2 L1 Model II, 2 B1, 1 B2, 1 Compact, 2 ToneMatch and 1 T4S. Not...Read More...

Using L1 compact as monitor with T8S, and T1 L1 Model II, L1 Model 1S,

I have concert this Saturday. I went to see the auditorium and found out that it has terrible acoustics. The auditorium is wide compare to it's length. It's a sold out concert with roughly 250 people. I have one L1 compact, one L1 Model II with B2 base and one L1 Model 1S with B2 base. I have one T1 and one T8S tone match. If it's possible I was thinking of using L1 compact as a monitor and keeping Model II and 1S on each side of the stage in front. So: 1.) Is it possible? If yes how to...Read More...
Hi BanjoJames, That's an interesting question. The short answer: Mono Shaime told us If the room is wider than it is long, then I'd lean toward running mono. But there are more reasons to do that in this situation. If Shaime were running the microphones directly into the T8S, then he could pan each microphone, hard to one L1 or the other. This should result in better gain-before-feedback. But since he is running the microphones through the T1 first, he doesn't have the option to pan the...Read More...

Hi Singsong, Thank you for joining the Bose Portable PA Community. Welcome! I would run the two systems completely independently. That is, each of you bring your own system and play through it. Check out this video: The L1® Approach and the History of Amplification This explains why you don't need to link the two systems. By the...Read More...

Best way to record output of keyboards and Mainstage from T8S?

Hi! I use multiple LI Model II systems for personal use and at a college where I teach. Typically I'm using one keyboard in mono, Mainstage from my Macbook Pro in Stereo (2 quarter inch inputs), and a Microphone. Mic on Channel 1, Mainstage on Channels 2/3 and Keyboard in channel 4. What is the best way for the house PA to receive these channels (or the total mix)--they are running live sound AND recording to Pro Tools. So I'm essentially using the Bose LI and T8S for a monitor (sounds great...Read More...
Yes, good suggestions. I have already thought of the USB volume pedal but haven't been able to find one. Maybe this Line 6 could work https://uk.line6.com/foot-cont...rs/fbv-express-mkii/ but the output is RJ45. I guess i could try using an RJ45 to USB cable. I wonder if anyone has tried this? I'm surprised there aren't more USB volume pedals out there. Obviously there are MIDI controller pedals, but I've had problems getting those to work properly.Read More...

Perception of bass changes as you raise the volume

Do you have the preset set for "Low Volume Music" - as that increases frequencies at low volumes and flattens out when driven harder. Maybe setting that to flat to start with might help the appearance of bottom end when wound up. Personally, the B1 has never appealed to me with audiences of 200 - 300. I run two L1 M2 with a B2 each and never have to drive the output more than 50% with the B2's normally set in mid position and I'm just a vocalist. I cannot imagine running a disco on a single...Read More...

L1 Model II low frequency dropping in and out

I hate to say this but every single L1 Model 2 I've had has experienced the low frequency dropping in and out. I'm on my 6th power stand and this problem started up again last night. Bass frequencies fade out and the overall tone is weird. Then randomly the lows pop back in and the system sounds good again. It's not like the B1 is losing the connection because there is no complete drop out of signal. I have two B1s and a B2. Changing cables and Bass cabinets don't make a difference. The...Read More...

Hi MGT, David Wyatt is right, there are other wireless technologies with lower latency than Bluetooth. If you're interested in pursuing that, most of those solutions go from a couple of hundred dollars to how-much-have-you-got. You'll need both transmitter and receiver. This will get you started: Wireless Guitar Systems Some operate in the 2.4 GHz range like Wi-Fi, and there are others that operate in different ranges. STRead More...
