Paul Schaefer's L1 Set Up

Today I had the privilege of visiting the David Letterman set and learning more about how Paul Schaefer is using the L1 Classic that you have seen beside him for years. The system is fed by a sub-mix of all of Paul’s keys and synths enabling him to hear himself clearly on stage. The band also has an in-ear monitor mix which enables them to talk among themselves and listen to songs as David Letterman is interviewing guests. There is also a printer attached to the laptop so they can print...Read More...

Creative L1 Compact Uses

Ok so it has been over a year since the release of the L1® Compact system and we continue to hear stories about the product being used from everything from military services to fitness classes. How about this for a creative use. Some have been known to call it a hat stand so .... (I know it's not a Compact but it seemed a bit silly to create a new thread just for this and the Modell II just happened to be set up) .... Succeeding in the Performing Arts: Introduction

Ken-at-Bose
Hi Folks, For the past few years, we've had discussions amongst the moderators and others about the idea of collecting our experiences in the performing arts (mostly live music) into some short essays that might help to disseminate the knowledge. The time has come to begin this effort. Each "lesson learned" will be a new thread, whose title will begin with "SUCCEEDING IN THE PERFORMING ARTS" followed by a colon and few words about the topic. L1 Model I - Preset 3.0 Patch (DJ's only)

Attention DJ’s using the L1™ model I system, We recently identified an isolated issue that only affects DJ’s that are using Preset #58 (High Volume Pre Recorded Music) on the L1™ model I system. It was discovered that L1™ model I power stands with a serial number less than 042829Z72550001AC did not accurately contain the advertised preset #58. This preset is specifically intended for DJ’s playing pre recorded music at higher volume levels. Instead, it contained a flat EQ setting which is...Read More...

Monday Night Song Ideas

Tom Munch
Everybody join in on ideas for songs on Monday night. Ken posted a bunch of ideas to get us started on the wiki. If there is a song that you've always wanted to do, or maybe a song that you "own" & would like to do - bring it on. Don't be afraid to do something obscure or interesting. (Keep in mind that the rhythm section will have to back you up, so we need chords - & don't make it too difficult.) Easy songs would be any blues-based tune like "Kansas City". Harder songs would be...Read More...

NATIONAL DJ ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT REVIEW

I just wanted to report on my first weekend of using my new BOSE system. I use the word power in parenthesis because two different meanings for the same word were revealed to me this past weekend. On Friday Night I had an event at my local NFL Stadium out on the field. I have done this event for the previous 4 years so this was my 5th and first with the BOSE system. The sound that came out of those two towers and 4 B1s was something like I have never heard before. It literally filled the...Read More...

This is an example of some of the old "Gems" which are turning up since the introduction of the new forum software. The words are as true now as they were then. Here's an example. My wife had a birthday party in January and I set up the Compact+T1 so that I could play easily for our guests and be heard anywhere in our living room which is L-shaped and about 50m2. Connect TC-Helicon Voicelive Touch 2 to L1 Compact

I bought my L1 Compact today, set it up and connected my TC-Helicon Voicelive Touch 2 to it using the XLR Out to Channel 1. My Yiari is also running the TCH VLT2. It sounded GREAT! But then... I read the manual and it said to use TSR out to Ch. 2. I didn't feel like that was as solid or crisp. I had TM set to off. Does it hurt anything to go XLR to Ch. 1??? Help!Read More...

L1® Model II with B2 outdoors for 600-800

Hello,I have a qustion regarding an upcoming outdoor gig and would appreciate any input? This will be a rather large (600-800) picnic at a farmground.I'm not sure yet if there will be a small stage or just setting up on the grass. I use the L1 Sys2 B2. What I'm thinking of doing is: Set up the sytem behind me (say 12') and then run a pair of speakers in front of me,one on the left and one on the right.I believe I'll have enough volume and the Bose can act as my monitor also. I think I can...Read More...
Off The Couch posted: ST, i agree with Oldghm. Also,I checked out the Farm venue I'll be gigging at.It looks similar to the pic you sent of your outdoor gig.Except there will also be a smaller crowd at tables behind me. So,I think I may need to use the additional external speakers to point towards them. What do you think? On a side note,in between my sets the customer is requesting a variety of music from the 1950's til current times. Can anyone recommend a site where I can build a set list...Read More...

A1 amp sounds like a zipper when turning power off

my A1 amp about 9 months old being used to power a B2 cabinet is sounding like a zipper when I turn the power off. I started turning the A1 power off separately from the rack when I noticed it popping all by itself without having any audio a few weeks ago. I removed the other device a DBX crossover to make sure it wasn't that. You can confirm my suspicions that the amp is going bad though. Thank you. T1 to the L1C to the DBX to the A1 to the B2 to my ears is a formula for a good acoustic box.Read More...
Thank you sir . I am running a Roland synth thru my acoustic guitar and the L1C wasnt quite enough to give me the thump I wanted with the bass patches. The A1 and B2 solved the lack of thump. No doubt bout that...my neighbors love me at 3 a.m.Read More...

Under Low Tents and Gazebos

Matt Wahl
Hi Friends! It's been a long time. I hope I'm doing this right. A lot has changed with the forum since I was here last! After more than a decade of Bose L1 use I sold all of my Bose gear the spring of 2015. I tried a couple of different set ups over the last few years and realized that nothing is as well suited for me and what I do as the Bose L1. So I've come full circle and just finished my first week on tour with my new Bose L1 Model 2 w/a B2 and T1. So far so good but I'm about to...Read More...

Tone Match with FI

I recently purchased the Bose f1 model 812. I'.having trouble using the tone match with a computer running through it. I have a DJ program that I ran with the L1 Model II and tone match, now when I try hooking it up to the F1, I'm not able to get the music to come through the system. I have hooked it up according to the directions. Has anyone else ran into this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciatedRead More...
Hi Double A DJ, Thank you for joining the Bose Pro Portable PA Community! If you had your DJ program working with the T1® to your L1 Model II, then things should work equally well with your F1 Model 812. Assuming that you have a T1® Power Supply, you can connect the T1® Master Output to F1 Model 812 Input 1 or Input 2. If you need to connect two F1 Model 812s, you can add a second one. For information, we have an article here: T1® to F1 Model 812. Does that help? STRead More...

Cable from socket to speaker?

Hi, I have a good question..... I need to mount my L1 model II in a tight space, and does not have room for the the socket. I am wondering if it's possible to mount the speaker alone, and the connect it to the socket using a cable? By doing this, I will be able to place the socket 2-3 feet from the speaker, and make it work. What do you think? Are you familiar with the connector plug used in speaker and socket? Thanks!Read More...
Hi Nielsen, This is a good question, and has been asked many times since the introduction of the original L1 Classic. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, there is no support from Bose for this type of use. You can use the Model II with just the lower array without harm and get reasonably good results in a pinch, but it will not provide the ideal dispersion of sound. I am not aware of anyone making cables for this purpose, but that doesn't mean they don't exist, it just means the answers aren't...Read More...

How many inputs can an L1S handle?

rpboy
I am doing a gig with 4 vocals, two electric guitars, a keyboard, and drum kit. I am planning to mic all the instruments (including vocals and keyboard) and a mic on the bass drum. The music is 60's British invasion so no monster bass or overwhelming sound is needed. The room where I'll use the L1S holds 225 people. I would like some feedback as to whether I could use one L1S or if I need to augment the system. Thanks much!Read More...

Settings for loop pedal backing tracks

hi I am in an acoustic duo we use a boss loop pedal for our backing for certain songs which we have recorded and produced ourselves . I would like some advice or suggestions regarding getting the best sound . For some reason the preset I feel gives the best sound is accordion ????? Not sure why this is also do I really need to use compression ? Any help would be appreciated regards LucreciaRead More...
Hi mark thank you again for your reply to this question and valuable advice . We played last night and I left the compression on the backing making sure that I used it sparingly ( which is something I have been reading ) it worked really well . I have left compression off my vocals as you suggested which is brilliant but left it on my bodhran guitar and as I say backing seems to work a treat . To me honest the whole compression thing I get but not really sure how it works on producing terms...Read More...
