Discussions about the Bose S1 Pro system

Bose S1 Pro

Designed for musicians, DJs and general PA use, the S1 Pro is the ultimate all-in-one PA, floor monitor and practice amplifier that's ready to be your go-anywhere Bluetooth music system for nearly any occasion.

This is the place to discuss the S1 Pro system.

Hello all,   I am using a S1 Pro as a monitor with a L1 S1 / T4S.   I am getting a constant hum from the S1 Pro only when i turn the volume up on the S1 to about the detent.  I am running a 1/4 in cable into the S1 input #1 and using the output from the T4S output #1. The tone match switch on the S1 is set to off.     I also tried the #2 input on the S1 pro and I tried a second cable (balanced and unbalanced).   I also tried using the mono out of the L/R outputs and the hum was eliminated and all is good, however i assume i should be using the line out #1 or #2.  Any suggestions on how i should set up the monitor.    Should the cable be balanced or unbalanced or does it even make a difference?  I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.  By the way, this forum has been a tremendous help in getting myself acclimated with my new Bose system.

Are the L1 and S1 Pro connected to the same power source (e.g., power bar)?

I am running a 1/4 in cable into the S1 input #1 and using the output from the T4S output #1.

T4S output #1 - which one didn't work? (1, 2, 3, or 4)

T4S output #1 - which one did work (no hum)? (1, 2, 3, or 4)

however i assume i should be using the line out #1 or #2.  Any suggestions on how i should set up the monitor.

Please see: T4S to S1 Pro

This article assumes you are using the S1 Pro as the main loudspeaker. To use the S1 Pro as a monitor, connect as shown below.

The article sets out the settings on the S1 Pro that also apply when using the S1 Pro as a monitor.

Balance is preferred. You will have greater resistance to line noise.

I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.  By the way, this forum has been a tremendous help in getting myself acclimated with my new Bose system.

Thank you so much for the reply, i appreciate it.  I actually am getting hum from 1,2, 4(i did not try 3.  Separate power sources.

That's the likely culprit. Try connecting everything to the same power source.

Ill get a new balanced cable and report back.  Thanks again.

Hi Margo-718,

Thank you for joining the Bose Portable PA Community.  Welcome.

It sounds like you have a ground loop.

To all:

Safety Note

NEVER use a cheater plug or cut the ground plug off an ac power cord.

From the Owners Manual

Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than the other. A grounding-type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong. The wider blade or third prong is provided for your safety. If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet.

Please see: Ground Loop for ideas for resolving ground loops

Thank you,

ST
