Hi ST - that was quite some read! I find this forum amazing - also found an iPad/aux send thread that's highly relevant to another question - if I precis what I'm trying to achieve, you'll see the connection:
In spite of being a dinosaur (pro in the UK in the sixties!) I want to change from amps/stomps to modelling; several reasons, not least of which is the amount and weight of gear to cart around and set up.
Secondly, being a small covers band making extensive use of backing tracks, I want to use midi to control fx changes to reduce tap-dancing, and route intro clicks away from front of house.
I currently use Garage Band to make our BT’s, mixed down to mp3, driven on stage by an excellent app called “One Track” on my iPad. The iPad’s on one side of my music stand, the ToneMatch mixer of my Bose system is on the other, pedals (or Helix?) on the floor - total control, very compact.
I will need to use synchronised audio/midi tracks rather than mp3’s, (but see my comments above re thread describing routing one channel with intro click from iPad to Bose) and Cymatic LP-16 has been suggested, so I’m looking at that (as a side issue, the software “uTools” doesn’t get a very good press, and the forums seem to confirm problems with it). But I don’t want to go to using a DAW/computer to play the tracks live.
Although my musical activity is much reduced these days, and solely for fun (well, most of our gigs are!) and "pay for the strings", I’m prepared to spend money to make life easier . . . I already have the Bose system and am very happy with it, but I feel it really needs modelling to totally come up with the goods.
I have been using a Variax for several years - don't tell Line6, but I got a luthier to build the guts into a bespoke guitar - so that will be the cherry on the cake with two-way control!
Thanks very much for your comments; in fact, I ordered the Helix this morning! Don't see why I should have a problem - thanks guys . . .
