L1 Model II

Let's talk about the L1® Portable Line Array Systems

Using proprietary Bose® technology, L1 systems combine  PA and monitors into a single, highly portable unit. The  loudspeaker can be positioned behind or to the side —and you hear what the audience hears.

Highly portable PA and monitor combined for solo performers, DJs and general-purpose use. Fixed vertical control with 180° horizontal coverage Reduced vulnerability to feedback.

Three systems to choose from (Compact, Model 1S, Model II)
Two passive bass module options (B1 or B2)
Consistent coverage and tonal balance, portability and easy setup.

T1 partially unresponsive

I had the need to run a PAIR of L1 Model 2 this weekend.

Last time I did this, I ran dual mono and didn't get enough separation between the sticks and it sounded bad bad bad.

So this time, I set everything up, followed all the instructions for a proper stereo config and with 6 metres between them, and used a power supply for the T1.

I ran from a stereo DJ mixer to ch 1 and 2.  XLR to TRS.  Ch1 was presumed master out.  Ch2 was set up for AUX out.

Here's what was wrong during the test set up.

  • Volume controls on 1 and 2 unresponsive.  Turned up, down, nothing.  Only control I had was the trims, or the source DJ mixer.
  • zEQ unresponsive. None of the eq settings made any difference on either channel.
  • Master volume did nothing
  • Mute buttons did nothing
  • AUX level in the menu did nothing

I spent an hour trying re-reading the instructions thinking I'd missed something.  I tried running ch1 with the ethernet cable and had a slightly different result but still no control on ch3 (AUX) beyond the trim pot.

But here's where it gets REALLY weird.

Pack up, load up, head off to a corporate event, and suddenly the T1 is behaving totally differently.

The EQ worked, the MASTER output seems to adjust CH1, everything worked just like the instructions said it would.

Is this a thing?  Or is my T1 on the way out?

Thanks!

It sounded GREAT by the way.  First time using stereo since the Model I, and I had so much headroom!  I was initially going to use my dual F1 system but when I visited the room, I decided the L1 was best.  Long narrow concrete room with a high ceiling about 2 floors up (huge mezzanine) and 450 guests.

Hi Nick,

I'm sorry you had a tough time with your T1.

This is exactly what I'd expect if you connected the L1 systems to the T1 Preamp OUTs

Preamp Outs instead of Master Aux

instead of the Master and Aux Outs.

Possible?

Hi ST!

That thought crossed my mind the day after the event.  I might have used the pre-amp outputs, but I know they're not master/aux outputs.

But maybe I was stupid and did that.    The fact my "faults" are exactly how it should work if connected to the pre-amps suggests I made a dumb mistake.

I'll set it all up and test again one day.

Or maybe I'll just buy a T4.

Thanks!
