I usually run my upright bass into the analog input on the L1 base.  I use a pre-amp on the bass. My question is how to I set the trim knob for the best sound.  Do I run it up to the clip and back off a bit and keep the volume down on the pre-amp.  Other ideas?   Thanks

Set the output of the preamp to about 75% and then set the L1 Model II analog input trim up to clip (red), and then back off a bit.

We want to send a strong signal from the preamp and attenuate it (if necessary) at the receiving end. This should give you a better signal to noise ratio than sending a weak signal and amplifying it at the receiving end.

Does that help?

Thanks for that ST....I will give it a try tomorrow night.  If that is too much and I think in the past the band has felt I am a little to loud should I decrease it on the pre-amp or on the base?  Compounding all this is I have a output control on the realistic pick-up (copper foot).  Don't know how I got into the position or running the sound for the band.  Hard enough to just take care of the bass.   Thanks again

Hi, Peregrinator.

Here's what I would do.

Pickup output control: 75%

Preamp output level: 75%

L1 Model II Power Stand Analog input level: Trim up to clip (red), and then back off a bit.

Turning the volume down on the fly: Ideally, turn down the L1 Model II Power Stand. Practically speaking - Adjust where it's most convenient.
