Monday Night Song: Don't Get Around Much Anymore

Hi, Tom:

Well, I looked at the Wiki...I don't know that this is the same song. I did not recognize the names that went along with the song on the list. I'll see if I can find sample of it somewhere.

Otherwise, Duke Ellington's jazz standard in C. Are we going to have a piano? I saw that there will be at least a couple keys players present. Do you know if there will be something for them to play?

Be right back...

Okay, I'm back. Yeah, that's fine. Found the Strayhorn version. I do it more up tempo, but key of C is good, as the chart shows in the Wiki.

(EDIT #2) Just found the Dr. John version; that's a bit more funkiness than I would like. (end edit #2)

I certainly don't mean this harshly at all, but I'm not up for sharing different lines or verses of vocal in a single song. Break for piano, horn, etc. soloing...certainly, and expected. Well, maybe I'm way off. Was that idea for just one song in particular? I'm afraid I didn't read the whole thought about it in that thread.

As you formulate the schedule, I'll be in late on Sunday - probably 9:30 at the earliest. While that is true, I just realized it has no bearing on Monday night. Although if you change things up before the end of the month, I suppose this information is worth noting. (end edit)

Thanks for considering my participation.

Nathan
Missed the Saturday dance, heard they crowded the floor
couldn't bear it without you, don't get around much anymore
thought I'd visit the club, got as far as the door
they'd have asked me about you, don't get around much anymore

C Dm7 D#o7 C/E A Bm7 Co7 A7/C# / D7 G7 C C/E Ebo7 Dm7 C Gm7 C

Darlin' I guess, my mind's more at ease
but nevertheless, why stir up memories

Been invited on dates, might have gone but what for
awfully different without you, don't get around much anymore

I notate things a little differently than some. My commas are for pauses & not grammatically correct. I indent each successive line in a verse or chorus. I don't use capitalization except for the first line of a verse or chorus.
Good enough. I'll tag it twice.

Standard Ellington ending.

This should run once through with vocal, once through instrumental, then I like to go back to the bridge and sing to the end (end notes above).

Thanks, Tom.

I'm not sure if that's what you have the band doing behind you on the last two repeats.
Quite possibly that's it. We usually just feel it, and it works well - never exactly the same way twice, you know, but always good. A quick coordination right before we do it usually suffices.

The progression I assume is the same.

I'm not worried about it. That's the joy of working with accomplished musicians!
