L1 Model II

Let's talk about the L1® Portable Line Array Systems

Using proprietary Bose® technology, L1 systems combine  PA and monitors into a single, highly portable unit. The  loudspeaker can be positioned behind or to the side —and you hear what the audience hears.

Highly portable PA and monitor combined for solo performers, DJs and general-purpose use. Fixed vertical control with 180° horizontal coverage Reduced vulnerability to feedback.

Three systems to choose from (Compact, Model 1S, Model II)
Two passive bass module options (B1 or B2)
Consistent coverage and tonal balance, portability and easy setup.

I currently have 2 L1 compacts that I use on stage with a QSC Touchmix mixer. It’s been a great set up for small venues. One of the L1’s has a bad pot on the 1/4” line in side. Has anyone hooked a mixer into the XLR side?

Hi Mike,
It's not recommended for two reasons:

  • the XLR input is designed for mic level inputs so can get overdriven by a line level input.
  • the XLR input has the Tonematch setting for a microphone/vocal, and may not sound good on a full mix (plus would only be enabled on that side).

I would recommend getting the line input pot repaired. Is it completely dead? Scratchy?

Hope this helps,
Jeff

Hi, Mike.

Welcome to the Bose Portable PA Community.

I'm sorry you've got a problem with channel 2 on one of your L1 Compacts.  You can call Bose Support1 to find out about service options. If the unit is less than two years old, it's probably under warranty. Out of warranty, there are flat-rate repair options that come with a one-year warranty on the repair.

As Jeff K mentioned

  • The channel 1 XLR input is designed for microphone level inputs.  However, you can probably compensate for that by lowering the output level from the mixer.
  • The channel 1 XLR input has a ToneMatch setting built-in for vocal microphones.  However, you can probably compensate for with EQ on the output from the mixer.

OR

Connect both outputs from QSC Touchmix to the XLR inputs on both L1 Compacts.  You will still have to work with the gain staging and the EQ, but at least those changes will be the same for both outputs.
