L1 Model II

Let's talk about the L1® Portable Line Array Systems

Using proprietary Bose® technology, L1 systems combine  PA and monitors into a single, highly portable unit. The  loudspeaker can be positioned behind or to the side —and you hear what the audience hears.

Highly portable PA and monitor combined for solo performers, DJs and general-purpose use. Fixed vertical control with 180° horizontal coverage Reduced vulnerability to feedback.

Three systems to choose from (Compact, Model 1S, Model II)
Two passive bass module options (B1 or B2)
Consistent coverage and tonal balance, portability and easy setup.

I have two L1 Model 1 systems that were purchased 10 years ago for a small women's acapella group to use at small outside venues.  One of the power stands has been having intermittent outages.  We have been advised to pick up an L1 Compact and use with the still functioning L1 Model 1 running everything through the Tonematch.  Will this solution work?

Please tell us about the intermittent outages. What's happening?

How large are the areas where you perform? How many people are listening?

How many microphones are you using now?

Thanks,

Have you gotten a quote on fixing the faulty L1 Model 1? I would almost guarantee it'll be cheaper than buying an L1 Compact and Tonematch mixer.

Jeff

I can't find anyone local to work on it.  We already have a Tonematch so it would just be the cost of the L1 Comapct

Typically, in an outdoor bandstand with 50-100 in the audience.  We use two microphones for the chorus and a third microphone for emcee work.

Hi Patty,

Thanks for the additional information.

Setting aside you comfort with having used two L1 systems up until now; you might find you can do your shows with the T1 connected to the one L1. The horizontal dispersion of the even a single L1 should reach 50-100 people outdoors.

Have you tried that?

Back to your original question.

Yes, you can use an L1 Compact with an L1 Model I.

The L1 Compact does not project as far as the L1 Model I, but in an outdoor setting for 50-100, you might not notice the difference.

I would try running with the single L1 Model I before investing more money although you might consider getting the L1 Compact as a backup. It could probably do the job alone in a pinch.

Do you use a bass module with the L1 M1 such as a B1?

@ST I’m thinking a L1S, even though more expensive than a Compact, might be a better match to pair with their L1. Your thoughts?

The L1 Model 1S would be a better match for the L1 Model I, however for an audience of 50-100 people outdoors, the difference may not matter.

Thanks to everyone who has replied to this post.  I did go ahead and purchase an L1 Compact yesterday and will try using the L1 M1 and the Compact together next week.  I think I will also be able to use the Compact by itself for smaller venues - indoor and outdoor.  I really appreciate the suggestions and comments.

Hi Patty,

That's sounds great.

Here's the kind of cable you'll need to connect the L1 Model I to the L1 Compact.

Here's a link to it on the Guitar Center website

You can get a short one and connect it to the microphone cable you are using now to connect the first L1 Model I to the second L1 Model I.

On the L1 Compact connect the 1/4 inch end to Compact Channel 2.

Compact Channel 2 Line Level.png

Set the level on the L1 Model I first. Then bring up the volume on the L1 Compact channel 2 to the level you want. If the clip light on the L1 Compact goes solid red, turn down the volume. Flickers of red are fine.

For smaller shows you may want to connect the T1 ToneMatch audio engine directly to the L1 Compact.  Please follow the link below to an article about how to do that.

T1 ToneMatch® Audio Engine to Compact

Enjoy your new L1 Compact. You know where to find us if you have questions.
