Hello everyone,

Quick question. I have an L1 Compact and a TC Helicon Play Acoustic. I want to use my L1 Compact for 2 singers with guitars and keep my TCH Play Acoustic for harmonies.  Should I get a T1 ToneMatch or a Zedi 10FX?

any input would be greatly appreciated.

I'd go with the latter.

The T1 is not available any more, bottom of the line with Bose appears to be the $600 T4S now.  If you had a L1M2 maybe the T4 but...with a compact...?

I've had a T1 with an L1M2.  I also have a QSC Touchmix 16 digital mixer with tons of "presets".  I've almost never used the presets in either mixer except sometimes the ones in the QSC as a starting point for further, major tweaking using its much more easily understood graphic interface.

"Tweaking" the signal is much more intuitive and easier with an analog mixer...so, I also have a very nice cheap little Behringer 1002b battery powered analog mixer (like the Zedi) that's a joy to use when I play smaller gigs with 2 Bose S1 Pro speaker systems...look ma, no need to plug in.

Just my opinion...

Well, the T1 is discontinued so you're looking at the $600 T4S vs the $330 Zed mixer. Both would use the analog output as the L1 Compacts don't have a Tonematch input. Both would handle two singers and two guitars fine with the available 4 XLR inputs and at least one stereo channel. Both have EQ and effects, but the Tonematch's are more advanced, plus you can save scenes on the Tonematch. Either would do what you want at minimum, so you have to sit down and compare the rest of their features and see if the Tonematch's additional features justify spending another $270 on the Tonematch or if the Zed would fill your needs.

We have a dual L1 Compact setup that I feed with a Soundcraft Signature 12 MTK, supporting 4 vocals, cajon and acoustic guitar through a TC Electronics G-Natural (plus a Bluetooth receiver for break music) and it does fine for us. Plus it has full multitrack recording capability over USB vice just stereo (and does that as well). For me, I didn't much care about digital mixing and scenes without a dedicated sound guy (we control from stage), as the more things I have to change between songs, the more dead time there is between songs. But, you may have a need to use multiple scenes during your set, so you have to decide that for yourself.

Hope this helps,
Jeff

I was looking at buying a used T1 for my needs if that was recommended. The old T1’s seem to be pretty popular. I don’t use backing tracks, it’s just me and a guitar. Sometimes my buddy joins and that’s why I wanted to be able to support 2 singers with guitars.

The T1 will serve you well for your application (two mics, two guitars) as long as at least one of the guitars has a preamp.  The TC Helicon Play Acoustic will serve that purpose.

Please note: You will need a T1 ToneMatch® Audio Engine Power Supply as well.

I certainly appreciate all the input from everyone. I kind of figured the Bose T1 was going to be the better alternative to get the best sound out of the L1Compact. I had read great things about the Allen&Heath Zedi-10fx but have never used one. Wasn’t sure how well the effects on the mixer would work on the Bose Compact
