L1 Model II

Let's talk about the L1® Portable Line Array Systems

Using proprietary Bose® technology, L1 systems combine  PA and monitors into a single, highly portable unit. The  loudspeaker can be positioned behind or to the side —and you hear what the audience hears.

Highly portable PA and monitor combined for solo performers, DJs and general-purpose use. Fixed vertical control with 180° horizontal coverage Reduced vulnerability to feedback.

Three systems to choose from (Compact, Model 1S, Model II)
Two passive bass module options (B1 or B2)
Consistent coverage and tonal balance, portability and easy setup.

In a bright 20' wide x 60' long x 13' high room, do I need any additional speaker partway down the room to have balanced amplification level and audio imaging with the L1 Compact placed at one end of the room?

Original Post

I personally use compacts at 50 to 60 feet throw quite a bit for acoustic guitar + vocal. Seems like the coverage is sufficient for that application. I do try to elevate the unit a bit higher as needed to clear obstructions, human and other... An L1 Model 2 would probably be a better choice especially if you are doing more sound (full band etc.)

Good Luck pagoos

While I thunk you’re fine with a L1 Compact, if you need an extension speaker for additional coverage in other contexts, I would recommend considering a S1 Pro.

With its battery ability you could place it anywhere you need and you could use a Xvive U3 switched to line mode and wirelessly connect a mixer aux line out to the line in of the S1 which would really provide some flexibility for placement with no speaker or power cables required!

Please tell us more about what you are doing and the room.

How is background noise - is the room quiet?

Was this space engineered for sound reinforcement?

What kind of sound sources are you amplifying? (e.g., live music, prerecorded music, people talking?)

How many sound sources are there?

How many microphones will you be using?

How many people will be in the room?

Are the people seated or standing?

What are the people doing while you using the sound amplification system? (e.g., listening attentively, singing along, partying)

Is it possible to place the sound system in the middle of the long wall instead on the short wall?

Thanks,

ST

To answer ST's questions:

The space is a multi-purpose room that will at times be used for:

• Presentations with or without video (85" flatscreen on one short wall) — 1-2 wireless mics

• Acoustical music (with or without amplification — most likely 4-5 players max

• Video playback with audio

• Audio playback from digital source or turntable.

Crowd size is 60 max., mostly seated in 2/3 of the room, with. some standees.  Attention will vary depending on the event.  Most often seated an focused, but there will be events that are standing an wandering (gallery-like). Music playback may at times just be background.

We did do a test with the L1 on one side at the halfway point of the room, but the acoustical imaging was a bit weird, as the amplification came from behind much of the seated audience.

Hi pagoos,

Going back to your original question.

I didn't realize you already have an L1 Compact.

Since you do, what have you tried and what issues have you experienced?
