Tyros 5 to L1 Compact - will I get better sound with a T1

Hi,if this is any help to you,i also play a Tyros 5 connected to Midi Accordion & vocals.I have not actually had my Bose system for long, but i will be taking it out for the first time tomorrow..Mine is L1 Model 2 with a T4S Tone match mixer,i plug my voice into channel 1 & the Tyros into channel 2,to me it is a great sound, perhaps after tomorrows gig i may be able to tell you more & perhaps it may be beneficial to us to keep in contact.I live right down in SW Cornwall in the UK..Please let me know if you think it may be beneficial for us to exchange Email addresses & i will gladly give you my email address, bye for now..Gideon

Please update your experience attempting to achieve your sound using the L1 (compact) direct.   Keyboard has been the most challenging instrument for me thru the years. I have owned the Bose PAS since 2004, since the beginning.    I have a Yamaha Motif ES8.  I never could achieve a proper sound plugging direct.  Playing with a full electric band just did not cut it.  Our keyboard player used to play with the Grateful Dead, so you can imagine my need to solve the problem was all too real. A proper keyboard amp, run either direct or miked was necessary for us to ever get a proper bite which would be able to cut through the sound.

Believe you me, I tried everything over the years that band was together. I have entries on this forum archives from when I was doing the work.

Thanks in advance for your response,

ken

Hi Thanks for answering my question, do you use just one L1 with the Tone match ?, what I would like to know does your set up sound better with or with out the Tone match. I am always looking at getting the best sound from my Tyros 5 so yes I am willing to exchange Email addresses.

Hi Ken,

Thank you for joining the Bose Portable PA Community.  Welcome.

At the moment I play a Tyros 5 through a single L1 compact, will I get a better sound if I use the T1 tone match or would I be better getting a stereo mixer to play the keyboard through

Do you have any other audio sources in addition to your Tyros 5;  a microphone perhaps? A ToneMatch mixer can make a big difference for vocal microphones.  If that's not applicable to you:

Have you considered playing in stereo? You can get another L1 Compact. If you like playing in stereo, this will probably give you the most positive change for your next investment (as compared to getting a mixer).

How large are the places where you perform?

What kind of music are you playing?

What are people doing while you play?

Hi

I only play on my own mainly for sequence dancing, and due to the fact the keyboard is stereo I was wondering if the T1 Tone mach would enhance the sound or am I wasting my money.

Hi I play for sequence dancing for up to about 70 people so I was wondering  if the T1 tone match would improve my sound due to the fact I would take two leads from the keyboard into the T1 instead of one direct to the L1 compact

I looked at the Tyros 5 specifications. I found, there's a single output for Left+Right.

Tyros5 L+R Output 1

If you connect that output to Compact Channel 2, you should get the full output of the Tyros 5. You don't need the T1 to combine the Left and Right outputs for you.

Hi Ken,

Honest, I hope so.  We want you to enjoy your music and to help you to share it with others.

Do you enjoy the sound of your Tyros 5 in stereo (headphones or stereo speakers)?  If you want to share that experience with your audience, you'll need another loudspeaker. Ideally, you will have two identical loudspeakers.  The simple next step would be to get another L1 Compact.

However, you've told us

I found this.

Five partner sequence dance at the Albert Hall, Canberra ( circa 2016) (sepia)

Sequence dancing is a form of dance in which a preset pattern of movements is followed, usually to music which is also predetermined. Sequence dancing may include dances of many different styles. The term may include ballroom dances which move round the floor as well as line, square and circle dances.

Sequence dancing in general is much older than modern ballroom dances.[1] With the exception of the waltz, invented around 1800, all dances in ballrooms were sequence dances until the early 20th century. After modern ballroom dancing developed, in England, sequence dancing continued. It included so-called 'Old Time' dances and also adapted versions of the new ballroom dances, and then versions of Latin dances. Sequence dancing is a competitive sport as well as a social pastime.

Does that sound like what you're doing?

If so, then perhaps stereo isn't a priority.  If people are constantly moving through the sound field, they may not appreciate a stereo image as they would if they were stationary.

Hi Ken

A second L1 compact will help fill the room when there are higher numbers of dancers and it would separate your stereo imagery if that was important to you. Even if you didn't regularly use the two - I find a second gives me confidence in that I have a backup solution.

Hi Ken,thanks for your response,i think maybe at times we can help each other, firstly here is my email address     gid234ok@live.co.uk          First going off,i am not used as yet to using this site,it has been unbelievable all the responses i have had to my message to you..As i told you today i was using my Bose set up for the first time     Bose L1 model 2 B26A SS Bass system (2 speakers in one cab) My microphone was plugged into the T4S tone match mixer on channel 1 & the lead from the Tyros into channel 2..And of course as i have said,my midi Accordion is connected to the Tyros 5. When i was at the gig today all i was relying on for sound was the Bose, the two small speakers that can be attached to the Tyros were not used & also the Tyros Bass speaker was not used, because i was using the Bose bass speaker..When it comes to technical things i am not the brightest & the system i am using now is very very new to me..I don't know as yet,but perhaps the Tyros should be plugged into the main panel where the two speakers fit (it also says trim on this panel as you will know) One of the questions i was asked on this forum was what kind of music do i play, well i am 62 & been an entertainer all my life & yes i do sing, ranging from 50s 50s country,Irish,R & Roll,Ballads, etc etc etc, music is my life & always has been, there are so many things on the Tyros i just don't use & to be honest i am STILL LEARNING,since i have had the Tyros these last few years it has been & still is the most complicated system i have ever used, especially if you are not familiar with certain things you just don't understand & know what they mean.To my knowledge down here in Cornwall i am the only person with this particular set up ie Midi Accordion connected to the Tyros.Things are certainly not easy for me as they would be for say a guitarist, there are literally thousands of them, but the likes of me,especially down here are very few & far between.PERHAPS YOURSELF OR SOMEONE READING THIS COULD ADVISE ME & GIVE THEIR OPINION ON THE BEST VOCAL REVERB TO USE WITH THE MIXER?? Ken you have my email now,i could just go on & on,best wishes for now & i thank you all for your helpful replies, best wishes...Gideon

Hi Gideon,

I will email you and try and give you as much advice as I can, I don't know how you have your Tyros set up but the best way is to use registrations or you can use midi song files, I will speak to a mate of mine who has the same set up as yourself but he does not use bose, his name is Mick Edwards he has his own web site and has done loads of recordings you can hear him on you tube I have also got some on youtube as well, I will speak to Mick and I will email you

Regards

Ken

Hi Ken,thanks for your reply..Just to tell you briefly before you email me,most of the time i use USBs with styles on that i have either downloaded or bought,i learnt how to do it,this method i use is a lot quicker than searching for the next style on the Tyros..I also use a Yamaha pedal for starts, stops, fill ins & endings etc..Will tell you more in our next discussion in email, thanks Ken...Gideon.
