East Coast Conference Travel Logistics...

Anybody flying into BOS during the day Sunday, 29?

If my buddy declines to go/drive - I may just grab a cheap Jetblue flight JFK-BOS and figure it out from there. Does the Inn have any type of shuttle service from Boston airport?

If not, maybe share a rental car with somebody from Boston airport to the Inn if interested and the schedule can match-up?

I was trying not to take-off a matinee $how that day but if something "BIG" is going down at 6pm as brother Ken mentioned, I'll probably have to suck-up the lo$$... Otherwise I wouldn't be able to leave NYC until about 5:30pm putting me in Ashland sometime after 10pm.

Anybody have some cheese for my whine?

Jeff Incutto, Operations Manager at the Warren Center, gave me the following response when I asked about transportation from either Boston or Providence airports:

"The Logan Express is probably your best bet to get transporation from Logan Airport to the Warren Center. Providence is a little further away so it would be more expensive. Logan Express' phone # is 508-872-5424. Or you could call Boston Coach 888-735-5038, ask for Tonny Gichohi (617-394-3742)."
We haven't figured out our travel plans yet. I'd prefer to give my business to Southwest, which means flying into Providence.

There was some carpooling when folks arrived in California for the Big Sur event. I wouldn't be surprised to find ST creating a page in the wiki of everyone's arrival date, time, airport and gate number. Wink
If you're making plans getting in and out of Providence is WAY easier than Logan, but sometimes Logan has better flight choices.

I try to avoid Logan as much as possible but of the 6 or 7 trips I've made this year every one has been out of Logan due to better flight options and sometimes cost.

Hope that helps,
Steve
Hi all,

Most of my flights are out of Logan, for the very reasons that Steve mentioned. I always use the Logan Express shuttle. They generally run right on schedule (weekdays every 30 min, weekends every hour) and almost always know the best route around the big dig hassles...

It's a quick (10-15 min) cab ride from the Logan Express terminal in Framingham to the Warren Center. Tell the driver when you get on at Logan that you'd like a cab and it'll be there when you get to the terminal in Framingham...

'Hope this helps...
This is exactly the stuff I was looking for while I solve my puzzle. Jetblue has $50 one way fares from JFK-BOS so that's why I'm kinda stuck on Logan if I fly. Still waiting on word from my classical buddy - would rather drive to bring a few more goodies. I wanna show Steve my WMZ/TwinTube/Zoom pedalboard if possible?

Alan - I suggest you check Jetblue too from either Long Beach, Burbank or Ontario. No LAX service but comfy planes and usually reasonable prices.

Again, this helps a lot and I'm sure other folks will start pooling our shedules together when things draw a little closer - maybe share a ride here & there?

cheers

Thanks, Joe, I'll check them out. Another friend who tours a lot was also raving about JetBlue. And Burbank is definitely the convenient airport for me.

Yeah, Jetblue is a great airline for musos if you don't need service to the midwest. I've flown about 20 east-west r/t's so far this year and they've been excellent. They've even given me a direct corporate contact in the event of any service issues. Burbank has about 4-JFK per day and Ontario 1, but dunno BOS schedules as well?

Rental cars are actually pretty cheap ($30/day)outta BOS so when you or other folks finalize plans, it may be worth trying to hook something like that up?

My plans are still scattered but talked to Warren Center today and reserved a room. Woohoo!
Here's my only concern about JetBlue vs Southwest:

With the way the whole air traffic control system is tied together, I have this idea that travel via JFK and BOS is far more vulnerable to delays anywhere else in the country than travel via Phoenix and Providence. The thought of connecting through JFK just seems like its inviting problems. Is this wrong (or overly cautious)?

I'd just hate to miss the Sunday night get-together.

You and me both on the Sun night shindig.

Sun eve is often a delay out of JFK (due to international departures) but that's usually factored into flight plans and more of an evening problem for ALL airlines. JetBlue is a large $$$ presence (hub) at JFK too. But, a direct is always better than changing planes.

As long as headwind is cooperative my east-west flights almost always seem to arrive on time even though we sit waiting take-off often for 30-60 minutes. Remember, I'm talking 6-7pm Sun evenings. Earlier in the day, I wouldn't expect much, if any delay from JFK-BOS on Jetblue or other airlines with decent weather. I know they gotta bunch of flights daily and priced plenty good too!

My buddy just let me know he's not able to re-schedule some things and make this so I guess I'll do a Commando run...

NOTE - I already reserved a double bed at the Inn so if anybody wants it, I'll probably change that to a cabin bed in the next few weeks. Lemme know if they fill-up and if somebody could use that reservation and we can transfer it with the reservation desk?

Now, I just gotta decide either fly-in or rent a car and bring a few more goodies? Depending on ground transportation in/out of BOS flying could very well cost much less money/time...
Why? Have you nothing better to do with your Sunday than deal with Logan? Razz

Actually, that'd be way cool to meet up with you there. Joe has me likely talked into JetBlue, which would mean MA and I would be arriving on flight #1012 from JFK at 5:35. (Might be too late in the day for you.)

Seems pointless to rent a car if we're going to be staying in one place till Tuesday...

LOL... Well, there's a Dollar rental location right next to my theatre so that makes it much more tempting?

Ken - can you see a need or advantage for bringing my own L1? It's actually a warranty exchange at ver 1. I never got around to updating. Maybe I could get that taken care of while there?

Driving from work I could bring a couple acoustic/electric guitars, pedalboard, maybe the Champ/5F1 head-speaker? Do you want/need a GNX4, POD XT Pro? Mics?
I'm a bit confused about the equipment, too. There are a lot of people saying that they will be bringing their L1's with them. It would seem to me that there should be enough systems available between Bose and us local guys, that people traveling shouldn't need to bring theirs. I would definitely like to see everyone bring all their individual "tone" tools - guitars, pedals, amps, mics, etc - but I would think we should be able to have plenty of L1's scattered around for people to use. Ken? How did it work out in Big Sur?
Jonz,

You're probably right about the number of L1s available. I'm bringing mine because it's part of my new policy to never take a road trip without one. I mean, what if I happen upon a small venue screaming for a quick gig? I don't want to think to myself "Man I wish I had my L1".

And considering the compact size, it'll make no difference for me whether I bring it or not. Now if I was flying, it'd stay at home in VA.
Hi Guys

Here's the Gear List.

As gittar-jonz said, please bring all the tone making gear stuff you use or want to share with the rest of us (A DEMO !!!)

At Big Sur there were 4 or 5 Systems already at the Barn. Then Kyle brought A1s and B1s, and then some of the folks who drove brought Systems too. We had plenty of L1™s but I think that's because we did some counting before the people hit the road. We can do the same thing this time.

Skillydally - great policy -
ST - If I understand the gear list correctly, you could use acoustic/electric guitars and a small tube amp? Would a Taylor 714CE and G&L ASAT (maybe a Z3?) be suitable? I'm considering tossing a 5F1 champ clone head/10" AlNiCo cab in along with my latest pedalboard recipe? I'll make that 100% if you wanna give it a try? Maybe a baritone guitar for those times when we don't really need another bass or guitar in the mix?

If logged in, can users edit your gear list or will you take care of that?

As it stands, I'll probably pass on my XT Pro and GNX4 unless somebody knows they want to use that? I'll have an Adrenalinn and probably a Behringer X-Vamp handy which does a mighty fine job of direct guitar.

What do we wanna play???
I guess I need a little guidance from the at-Bose gang. My band has 5 L1's, with 10 B1's and 2 PackLites. I certainly don't need to bring all that for myself, but I'll be happy to bring whatever is needed for the event. Just let me know if it's needed.

Other things like congas, dobro, lap slide, case of mics (Crown CM310, Audix OM5, Sure Beta87, EV 767, AKG d5900, etc), processors (PodXT LIve, Behringer XV-amp, Yamaha DG Stomp- maybe I'll even have a Koch Pedaltone by then), etc I'll just throw in the car and if someone is interested, they'll be available. I'll bring my ProCo "Sign Off" mic switch pedal for you guys to check out too. The horn players might be interested in that as well - it's a great "hands-free" way to turn your mic off and on.

I'd love to get to hear a PorchBoard if someone could bring one.
And of course, all the cool guitar pedals and stuff that we discuss around here.
Hi Joe,

You (anybody) can edit the Gear List directly. If you hit the 'Edit' tab at the top of the page it will ask you to edit / create account.

When you follow that link - click Create an account
Just use your Bose Forum ID (Just so we know it's you!) and create a password. That process takes about 30 seconds.

Then you can edit the list.

The formatting is the same as Wikipedia, (if that helps). It's pretty straightforward.

If you are offering the use of the 714CE and the G&L - I'd be grateful. The G&L scale length is a little long for me but (okay just kidding for Doug's sake).

Hey - You could probably get the Taylor ToneMatch™ Presets installed for you and then you can hear your 714CE with the new sounds. Kuhl!

PS
Tube amps are great, but I'll probably be wanting to check some of the other toys.

I just put it on the list in case any of the other guys wanted one.

Yes, those guitars will be available to anyone willing to wash their hands before use. If you wanna Gibson scale length - I can bring a 335 too?

Yeah, but with the Fishman blender/EQ the tone can change so much I don't see how that would ever be practical? Maybe I'm missing something?

Also, I normally use ch 3/4 when picking/grinning so my vocals can have the XLR inputs. The Fishman drives ch 3/4 just fine and the onboard EQ gives me plenty of shaping. We'll talk more in person and y'all show how I could do better...

You should be able to find a tone or two on my latest pedalboard - Steve@Bose deserves some credit for that if it's as good as I think it is for direct or amp guitar.

Now for the ugly news - I won't be able to arrive until around 10pm so if you're counting on my axes for earlier Sunday, ain't gonna happen.

'Sorry, I'm gonna be working and making money to help pay for this safari and then drive-up after my Sun mat.

PS - I'll give the Wiki thing a try but please don't hold your breath.

Hi folks. Nadene here from PorchBoard...joined to respond to an email request I received about a post someone read. I'm not so good at the forum stuff, so please have mercy...
gittar-jonz wants to hear a PorchBoard. Bose is hosting a conference. How about we find someone from Bose willing to let me ship one to them. They can take it to the conference for everyone who wants to try it - and then they can have a drawing and give it away? (maybe let me know via email enroutemusic@aol.com because I'm REALLY not good at this computer stuff) Happy thumpin'....and have a great conference ! Nadene
