Hi Guys, is worth upgrading to the T4S from a T1? To me they look similar but maybe the hardware(components) inside is upgraded and also the software. That leads to my second question, is there a SW update coming out soon for the T1? Thanks

The following applies to the T1® ToneMatch audio engine and the ToneMatch T4S.

Here's the front of the ToneMatch T4S.

Here's the back of the ToneMatch T4S.

Here's a quick rundown of the additions and changes:

  • Channels 1, 2, 3 and 4 all have combo XLR-1/4" inputs
  • There's a channel 5 and 6 that is 1/4" Tip-Ring-Sleeve
  • Stereo outputs and processing
    • Two digital ToneMatch outputs and parallel analog 1/4" Tip-Ring-Sleeve
    • Pan
  • Headphone jack
  • 6mm (1/4"-20) threaded insert at the bottom for use with mounting hardware
  • Tap-tempo delay
  • Dedicated Aux Reverb
  • Second Aux out
  • 3-band Parametric EQ per channel
  • Master out 6-band EQ
  • USB playback (WAV/MP3) from thumb drives
  • New industrial design
  • New magnetic cover


Removed / Changed

  • Removed the L1® Cylindrical Radiator® stand and the mic stand adapter (replaced by the common 1/4"-20 insert)
  • Removed the preamp outs based on customer feedback that it was used very infrequentlyThere are eleven scenes available in the T4S/T8S ToneMatch® Mixers:
  • There are eleven scenes available in the T4S/T8S ToneMatch® Mixers
    5 Bose Scenes (that can be overwritten) and 
    6 User scenes
    The T1® has 11 user read/writeable Scenes and 5 Bose read only Scenes.
  • Global Reverb Time parameter is expressed in percentage compared to the T1® in seconds


Will you need the extra channels, stereo, or second Aux output? How important are the other features for what you do?

Quick questions on the new T's

1) Do you have a pic of the new stand attachment and adaptor mounts?

2) Assuming inputs 5&6 on the T4s are for keys or stereo inputs from iPods, etc: where are the controls for thes inputs?

3) Are there price points posted yet?

4) Thank goodness they've move the ToneMatch down, so my fat thumbs can access the release!!

Having used my T1's for a decade, I immediately see some of the improvements in the new offering.  A 4th multi-input channel w/ 5/6 also available  = increased capacity.

I need some time to fully understand the additional differences/improvements in this new gear. 

I like my T1's & I'm sure this new unit is just as integral to fully realizing the L1 strategy for sound reinforcement.

More inputs: It's great to have options.

I was an early adopter of the one L1® for each performer. When the T1® came out, I got a T1® for each L1®. This meant a T1® for each performer. I never need more inputs.

  • Stereo outputs and processing
    • Two digital ToneMatch outputs and parallel analog 1/4" Tip-Ring-Sleeve
    • Pan

This will be a boon for people who want to run two or more performers through a single T4S or T8S (or people running stereo backing tracks).

Unless I want to replace two T1®s with a single T4S ToneMatch® mixer, stereo may not be a big feature for me. Maybe a T4S ToneMatch® mixer connected to a couple of S1 Pro Systems  would make a nice compact rig for a duo.

The exception will be for solo gigs where I'm running stereo out of my Roland VG-99 or Kemper Profiling Amp, but I haven't thought of doing that in years.

  • Headphone jack

Yay! - not so much for me, but I've seen lots people who needed this over the years.

  • 6mm (1/4"-20) threaded insert at the bottom for use with mounting hardware

I'm looking forward to trying this new approach to mounting.

  • Tap-tempo delay

Wonderful.

  • Dedicated Aux Reverb

This will be great for people who run a separate monitor mix. I've often found that singers like more reverb than I want to send into the main mix.

A second monitor mix - or run a line out to a remote location. Terrific.

  • 3-band Parametric EQ per channel
  • Master out 6-band EQ

Along with zEQ, we've now got a full suite of EQ solutions.

  • USB playback (WAV/MP3) from thumb drives

So much better than using my phone for break tunes.

  • New industrial design
  • New magnetic cover

I won't miss these.  I always put the T1 on my mic stand.

I only used these to daisy chain two channels to combine ParaEQ (to get two bands of ParaEQ). And that was rare. But we have three-band ParaEQ in the T4S and T8S, so I'll won't have to do that again.

I have the passlight amp which I use to have a total of 4 B1s on the L1 for the drummer/Kick. The kick received the KickGate setting for dialable punch & great control of that channel.  On small gigs, the bassist would use their rig & we'd send a line-in the from the bass amp a little into that L1 in order to have a bit of low-end available to both the kick & the bass, when necessary.

The KickGate is a must for proper kick.

You should be able to do all of this with the T4S and T8S ToneMatch mixers.

The T4S doesn't come with anything added to connect to a 6mm (1/4") screw mount.  You can mount the T4S directly to a tripod or a quick release bracket if the tripod came with one.

Your T1 (and T4S and T8S) have separate tone controls for each channel.
