Hi, I've been using The L1 model II system + T1 Tonematch mixer in live situations since 2013, and loving it. Now I want to try and use the T1 as a pre-mixer/pre-amp for the microphone inputs as the input signal of the Yamaha AW2816 is quite weak.

For channels 1 & two I have the option XLR or TRS phone jacks (see attachment). Which one should I choose?

Also: Is pr-amp out the best solution? Does that override the mic pre-sets and effects of the T1 ? (I like the mic presets a lot)

Thanks,

Bart

Great.

Thanks for the picture of the manual for the Yamaha AW2816.

Is this your signal path?

  • Microphones ⇒ T1
    • T1 ⇒ Yamaha AW2816
      • Yamaha AW2816 ⇒ L1 Model II

Or

  • Microphones ⇒ T1
    • T1 ⇒ Yamaha AW2816
    • T1 ⇒ L1 Model II
    • Yamaha AW2816 ⇒ some other device or powered loudspeakers

You can use either one: XLR or Tip-Ring-Sleeve.

Use a cable like this from the T1 to the Yamaha.

The T1 Preamp outputs are post-trim only. That is - there is no signal processing applied at that point; no ToneMatch Presets, zEQ, ParaEQ, Effects, or Reverb. If you continue to use the T1 Preamp Outputs, you can increase the signal level by turning up the input trim (solid green, yellow flickers are okay, if you see red - turn it down).

Are you trying to keep the microphone signals separate as you bring them into the Yamaha AND keep the ToneMatch Presets, zEQ, ParaEQ, Effects, or Reverb in the signal path?  You won't be able to do that.

To use the T1 as a sub-mixer for your microphones and send the combined signal to the Yamaha.  Connect the T1 Master Output

to the Yamaha (one channel) using a cable like this.

Use a cable like this

Does that help?

Yes that did help. Thanks!

Great.

Btw, my signal path is Microphones ⇒ T1,  T1 ⇒ Yamaha AW2816. It's for boosting the vocal mics only.

What's on the output side of the Yamaha AW2816?

ST

RCA stereo out L & R (unbalanced), two TRS jack monitor out L & R (balanced), and 4 unbalanced omni out jacks (unbalanced). Them there's a digital Stereo out (coaxial) jack). But i don't mean to connect to the L1 system. In this case I use the T1 only as pre-amp for recording purposes (the Yamaha AW2816 is a harddiskrecorder).

Thanks again for your support,

Bart
