Connecting Mac Book Air with tracks to Mackie FX12V2 mixer

I have been told that I should use the 9/10, 11/12 left inputs with unbalanced 1/4 " plugs to get stereo music from the Mac-through the Mackie and out the 2 Bose L1 Compacts. I can only get the music from red and white RCA cables into the tape RCA connection. I need to be able to set some treble, bass and reverb from the Mackie. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Doo Wop Phil

Hi doowopphil,

If you are running your L1 Compacts in stereo, then the connections are simple.

Connect the Mackie Left output to one L1 Compact.

Connect the Mackie Right output to the other L1 Compact.

Connect the headphone out from Mac headphone output jack with a cable like this to a stereo input channel 5/6 or 7/8

Hosa CMP-153 3.5 mm TRS to Dual 1/4 inch TS Stereo Breakout Cable, 3 feet

Here's a link to the Owners Manual for the Mackie ProFXV2 12.

See pages 9 and 10.

This will allow you to "set some treble, bass and reverb from the Mackie."

Does that help?

St,

I have the new cable 3.5mm to dual male TS 1/4". Do I connect both cables red and white to the 2 female 1/4" 5/6 channels? Or, only one either white or red to the L 5/6 channel?

Thanks,
Phil

Connect both cables red and white to the 2 female 1/4" 5/6 channels.

Please let us know how that sounds.

Thanks,

ST,

I did what you said. One L1 was a much lower volume than the second L1.

I switched the cables (red n white). Same result. Went back to RCA plugs  into tape in females and it's was equal volume on both L1's. Any idea as to why the 1/4" TS did not have equal volume?

Thanks, Phil

Hi Phil,

Are you doing this? - Running your L1® Compacts in stereo?

St,

I asked if both cables red and white to 5/6 female. You said yes. I then sent new response saying that one L1 was much lower than the other. I replaced the TS 1/4" with RCA white and red to tape input and both speakers were the same. Can you explain?

Thanks,

Phil

Hi Phil,

I'm trying to confirm how you are connecting the mixer to the L1® Compacts

Are you connecting in stereo with mixer Left output to one L1® Compact and the Right output to the other L1® Compact?

It sounds like you might be daisy-chaining the  L1® Compacts in mono. I just need to confirm either way.

Thanks,

ST
