I just purchased a Yamaha MG12XUK Analog mixer. I need to know how to connect it to my Bose L 1 Classic PA.
Plug it in ?
Do I use the XLR out or the 1/4" out on the Yamaha? And does it go into one of the XLR connections (channel 1 or 2) on the Bose or into one of the 1/4" inputs, channel 3 or 4?
Try a regular 1/4" guitar cord from one of the Stereo Out channels of your mixer into channel 1 or 3 on your Bose - the 1/4" inputs.
If it works, it works...
The main thing to recognize is level matching. Your mixer outputs a very strong signal from the XLR outputs that would probably overwhelm the microphone level XLR input channels (1 and 2) on the Bose.
Thanks. That's what I needed to know. I just wasn't sure whether to use the XLR cable or the 1/4" cable to connect it to the Bose. I didn't want to do anything to damage either unit.
That's why I suggested an unbalanced "guitar cord" type 1/4" cable to start.
Less chance of overloading the input on your Bose than using an XLR-balanced cable from the output into a microphone input on the Bose...
