Bose L1 M2 with B2 (2Nos) and Bose F1 812 with sub (2 Nos)-for STEREO

Hi

I have a performance this Sunday and I just got my pair of F1s and subs.

Till now I was using my L1 M2s with B2 as stereo.   My setup is simple

1) 2L1s with B2 on FOH - for Stereo  ( around 20 + feet apart)

2) Two T1s - going into QSC touchmix 16, -channels 1&2, for Vocals,

3) Others- Keyboard, Guitar, Rhythm pads, persussions (2) go directly into QSC channels 3,4,5, 6 & 7 respectively

4) I have a stage monitor JBL 715 which comes from the AUX send from the QSC.

With the above setup, I m able to mix myself wireless while performing on the stage using IPAD  app for QSC.    I would always have loved and wanted if T1 ever introduced a wireless app to be controlled from on stage..

My question is

I got my new F1s and subs ( pair)  .  If I use both L1 M2s with B2 and F1s with subs  on FOH, as stereo,  will it cause any issues?  My intention is to get real punchy and powerful sound that can be suffice for around 750 + audience.   I m plannig to get the Main L out from my QSC --> F1 --> Sub--> L1 M2 and B2 ..   again Main R out from QSC-->F1--sub-->L1M2 and B2

Please help

Thanks

Congratulations on getting your F1 Model 812s and F1 Subwoofers.

This sounds like a great setup. Thanks for all the detail.

Well...

Starting with the F1s alone: I expect you'll get a tighter stereo image than you're used to with the L1s.  That's because the horizontal dispersion of the F1 Model 812 is 100 degrees compared to 180 degrees with the L1 Model II.

You may get some strange interactions when you add the L1s to the F1s. It's hard to predict. There are a lot of variables like room size, dimensions, the distance between the F1s and L1s, the position of the F1s and L1s in relation to walls, wall construction, and more).

You can certainly try having all the sound coming from either side of the stage (F1 and L1 left) and (F1 and L1 right). It may sound great, or the sound could be messy.  You may not get much more volume doing things this way.

If you're in a big room, I would consider putting the L1s at the back of the room with long cables or a wireless system.

Can you do a trial run in the room before the gig on Sunday?

I understand the dispersion part of L1s v/s F1.    So if I keep the two F1s as FOH and two L1s behind the performers..  .  will the audience hear like a delay or echoing bcos of the two ?   i can keep the L1s like may be 20-30 ft from the F1s.

And for the trial run, i dont think i can get that slot  :-(

There will be some delay, but the audience may not notice. You get approximately 1 millisecond delay per foot.  If the L1s are 15 feet behind the F1s, that's about 15 milliseconds of delay.  If you're particularly sensitive to this kind of thing, you may notice, but is more likely the precedence effect (you perceive what arrives first) will overcome the delay until it exceeds 30 milliseconds.

Here's a thought - if you can put the L1s 20-30 feet on each side of the F1s, that might work.  Assuming the stage is parallel to a wall, how wide is the wall?

Hi

Thanks for your reply..  I had a real good show on Sunday.  below is how I configured.  Initially i put my QSC(Main L@R) - directly to F1 Sub-(F1 & L1M2) respectively. But somehow I felt the sound throw was not great.  Even after keeping the Master of QSC more than "0" my output was sounding very low.. ( i even thought my car stereo had more punch and throw that this)

So I changed the setup to this:- (the hall was typical wider rectangular and having enuf space on both sides of the stage.

F1s/Subs are kept more than 20ft apart (FOH)

Also each L1/B2 were kept less than 10ft from corresponding F1s.

QSC Main L out Tonematch1 (Digital to L1/B2) and Aux out to--> F1 --> Sub

and

QSC Main R out Tonematch2 (Digital to L1/B2) and Aux out to--> F1 --> Sub

In this way the output gain, I set from the Tonematches and I could easily control the required sound thru my QSC TM.

And what i got was astonishingly clear and depth sound.   But felt a little bit muffled base from the F1 Sub. (I m sure this could be tuned thru EQ, but didnt have that much time, so had to go with special presets)

Overall, I was really happy with the the setup and sound.

Now my another Question is,  If I had used two L1M2s/B2 instead of the F1/sub Pairs, would that have helped more on the Base side, since we have all 4 B2s and 4 L1s of the same dispersion and other factors.

thanking you again

Yes, it is possible to get more gain for the F1 Subwoofer if you go through the F1 812 first. You pick up the gain with the volume controls on the F1 812. If you have a strong signal from the source, you don't need to do this.

WIthout sophistocated modeling tools, I can't predict which way would have given you more bass.

I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you.
