F1 Efficency Saves The Day!

I was hired to provide sound for an outdoor concert where they would be using a generator for power. Right before sound check the military 31,000 watt generator burst into flames and the power cut out! Scrambling at the last minute the event director was able to come up with two other generators - a 4000 watt and a 3000 watt (I got the 4000 watt and the backline and lights ran off the 3000 watt... F1 Subs wood damage danger - See Picture!

jdbassentertainment.com ·
To all the F1 sub owners - be careful when moving your subs out of the bags. I am not sure how this happened, but I noticed it the other day... The design of the subs seems to be extremely well thought out with plastic protecting the wooded part of the box on all main contact points... but this area on the front corners along the grill is susceptible to damage as you see here. Just thought you show all be aware... I will now be more careful to guard against another mishap like this again.

F1 Subwoofer Torture Test

jdbassentertainment.com ·
The other day I was testing my F1 subs, making sure they were fully out gassed (they seem to be) and I had the volume cranked! I had the volume on max on the F1 subwoofer and max on my mixer (Denon X900), the lights on the back of the subs were solid red and the limit lights were on and the subs still sounded good. I decided to see how much more I could push the volume... I wanted to see if at any point I could hear distortion... In which case I would back off the volume. Please remember I...

L1 Compact, L1 Model II, F1 system which is better?

Hi everyone I have been spending most of my time on the F1 forum... This being said I still am the proud owner of four L1 systems - two Model II and two Compacts. A colleague of my wanted to know which was better the L1 or F1 systems... where I replied neither! I told him they are unique tools and all the models in the Bose portable PA speakers have there place... I then replied... I use the Compacts for outdoor ceremony's and small shows where I don't anticipate dancing. I use my L1 Mod. II...

Hi everyone, it is that time of year when we can reflect on the year... and offer thanks. I am thankful for the Bose F1 components that have integrated so well in my DJ and Live Sound business. These light weight, powerful and amazing sounding speakers/subs were the tools I was lacking but needed for quite some time... very very happy with my investment! Will we be able to use our T1 ToneMatch Audio Engine to drive a pair of these in Stereo? Mono? Many of us DJs find the T1 more than adequate for our needs and it is a very fine "sound card" for output from our Macs (or PCs). If so, please add instructions for this to the Wiki!

Also, what is the room coverage? Would it be higher than the 500 of the L1 system? Would you need to have 2 arrays and/or subwoofers to cover larger halls.

If I remember right, the vertical dispersion varied with frequency on the other systems - the higher frequencies were closer to 0°.

Yes, this has always been an "issue" of mine... Bose purports "0 degree vertical dispersion", but when I look at the "Technical Specifications", it seems to actually depend upon the frequency. For example, at the low frequencies, of course, the dispersion is very wide (not "zero degrees" as stated).

Hi ST, Yes in the 'Straight' position, the beam width will likely be narrow enough to avoid reflections from the ceiling and floor. PG Restating my question posted above to exclude surprisingly controversial references that as it turns out were not germane to the question. For me, the full sized L1 systems have been really well behaved in large reverberant spaces. There seems to be very little sound going up to bounce around and come back down. There's been far less unwanted reverberation.

Hi invisibleDJ, Yes you can use your ToneMatch Audio Engine to drive a pair of F1 Model 812s in stereo or mono. Just use the config that you would use for the LI. Just make sure you use the ToneMatch external power supply.

Hi PMWizard, The F1 system is designed for use with ensembles with drums and guitars. Differences between F1 and L1 are: - More Power - The array is flexible and not fixed - You can daisy chain F1 units together. To cover larger halls, ideally, you would have a left and right system stack. As far as room coverage, what are you planning to do?

Hi Stu This is good question... The bottom F1 Model 812 has a specially designed key that locks into the F1 stand. The fit is snug and secure. Please keep in mind that we need to pass safety tests before releasing a product like this. At the time o the video shoot, the stand was as secure as a standard tripod. We have even improved the design since then. Another advantage to the stand, is that you can rest the speaker on it until you find the key. This way, you are not hunting for a pole cup...

Hi PMWIZARD, I can't accurately speak to coverage performance based on the specs you gave. To be honest, it's going to depend on the size of the space, how reverberant it is and how loud your band is. As you know, a drummer is going to excite the natural state of a space much differently than an acoustic guitar player. (or an acoustic player through an L1) For reference, we just used the F1 System in a stereo config in NOLA. The band was a rock trio. The space was fairly reflective with...

I am primarily a wedding Dj. Guests could be up to 500 in a normal ballroom setting. Currently use both the L1/B2 system and the Bose Platinum System (802III & 502BP). With the platinum system I start with the tops pointed outward to cover the seated guests for intros and speeches etc, then turn them inward to cover the dance floor for dancing. Could the F1 system be pole mounted so that the arrays can be turned if needed? I am disappointed that Bose did not come out with a more powerful...

What is the throw as compared to a L1 tower and a 802III? Will the 812 make full use of the 1000 W amplification? How is the 1000 watts assigned to the woofer and the array? I ask because I have a QSC K12, rated at 1000 W. In reality it has two 500 Watt amps (one each for the woofer and the horn), but there is no way the the horn will ever use anywhere near the 500 watts from the dedicated amp. Its completely false marketing from QSC. Balvinder - DJ Bally Atlanta GA www.DJBally.com

There is a standard size pole cup on the bottom of the 812. >What is the throw as compared to a L1 tower and a 802III? The 812 is capable of 132dB SPL (Peak). The 802 has a peak output level of 122dB SPL. >How is the 1000 watts assigned to the woofer and the array? The F1 Model 812 utilizes a 1000 Watt bi-amplified design. One amp powers...

How does this unit compare with the L1? I recently (about 6 months ago) purchased dual L1 II's for Mobile DJ'ing (primarily pre-recorded music). Would I see a noticeable improvement in SPL level and sound quality if I traded in the towers for two F1 units? I play lots of bass heavy content (rap, pop, etc). I know dual 10" drivers have slightly more surface area than a single 12" driver, but the F1 also has double the amount of power than the L1 II. I planned on eventually adding two more...

Thanks Paul! You forgot to include the output level for the L1 tower. What is the power output for each of the two amps? While the 812 has a pole mount, why not a pole mount on the Base bin? using the built in stand does not allow the 812 to be turned. Adding a tripod stand makes the whole thing look ugly like traditional speakers.

One 500 Watt amp is assigned to the Mid array, the other 500 watt amp is assigned to the woofer. >why not a pole mount on the Base bin? We wanted to design a stand that was specific to the F1 system. That said, in my experience, the mains are not usually splayed too widely. If users need to turn the system,...

I would love to be able to mount the top speaker sideways. Is there any way to do this? This way I could use the C pattern for filling a room with speeches or soft dinner music, and the straight pattern for when I only want to pound the dance floor. I almost never do shows... Only weddings etc - and the vertical dispersion in the ballroom at the hotel is not nearly as important as the horizontal.

Hi OneManBand, The F1 horizontal dispersion is 100° and being narrower than the L1®, you will probably use two F1 systems for most events. This will give you more control over where the sound goes - just by turning the F1 system to face the area where you need to direct the sound. I really appreciate the extremely wide coverage we get with the L1® but sometimes you just can't get away from the sound. That's not usually a problem for me although I appreciate that your shows are probably...

Hi I actualy use 2 L1 Model 1, with 4 B1. We are a band of 5 musicians, rock cold wave. I appreciate using L1 without return speakers and with very rare larsen. Do the F1 system have the same larsen resistance than the L1 if I use it without returns (at the same level of course) ?

I currently have a pair of L1 Series Model II stands with B2 subs. Occasionally when I play smaller venues I will use a single L1 M2 and use both of the B2 subs for more low end resonance. Would there be an issue with using the F1 Subwoofer instead of a pair of the B2s? I realize, that surface area would be decreased by half, by going with 1 pair of 10" subs versus having 4 10" subs running. The output power of the L1 stand is 250 watts to a single B2, as it is the same with the packlite amp...
