Using EWI with compact with no T1

Do any wind synth players use a PAS Compact without the T1 and are there any issues when doing that. I am looking at using the EWI with the yamaha VL-70, playing for small adult crowds standards music. Less than 100 people in the crowd. Will be using backing tracks and singing besides using the EWI. I haven't bought a compact yet but will be doing that after the 1st of the year.Read More...
I agree about the T1 not being needed. In the process of putting together the backing tracks, then will be getting the compact. Thanks for all the feedback on your setup and hoe well it works.Read More...

Solo Trumpet with (full range) Backing Tracks

Hope people are out there... I'm a budding (smooth and classical (soon)) trumpet player looking for a live rig. I am intrigues by the Bose L1. My setup would be: - solo mic'ed trumpet (AT Pro35) clip-on - Bb trumpet - Flugelhorn - piccolo trumpet (!) - Morrison MDT digital trumpet (wind controller through Rolan XV2020 synth) My venues would be small-medium in sized - wineries of various sized - I'm guessing 30-200 people inside most of the time sometimes outside. Can anyone tell me if the L1...Read More...

Anyone using wind controllers?

chuck-at-bose
We've heard lots of positive comments from horn and flute players who are enjoying the benefits of the Personalized Amplification System™. Just out of curiosity, is anyone using the wind controller (i.e. Yamaha WX Series, Casio, Akai) and sound module approach with our system?Read More...

Setting for TOA Mixer with Bose L1 Compact

I just got my Bose L1 compact and I am using a TOA mixer with my three wind sync two Yamaha VL70 Turbo chip and a Roland XV 5050. The Bose manual state to set all mixer setting to mid range but the effect setting / low eq / high eq settings sounds like a toy and was wondering that any one had any experience using the Bose compact with any other mixer then the Bose Li Tone Module. Need any suggestion to try so I can get the sound more like the real instrument. It sounds like a toy now need...Read More...

How about a wind instrument built with a Bosie system inside?

I am a retiree with too much time on my hands. I was watching a video and thought that it would be super cool if Bosie could build (read that as print) an instrument with the Bosie sound system curled up inside it. Say a tuba or French horn. Would that be fabulous? nd the size of a tube, I imagin, would drasticly be reduced. I this a good idea or what!? I will leave it to you good folks to contact Bosie with this idea.Read More...

Sax Tone-a-rama with David Mann

colcliff-at-bose
I went into Manhattan last Thursday for a tone adjustment session with sax great David Mann ( http://www.davidmann.net/bio.html ) at Roberto Romeo's famed center-of-the-sax-universe "Roberto's Winds" ( http://www.robertoswoodwind.com/ ). This is located midtown near 46th and 7th, near Madison Square Garden and not far from Central Park, right in the middle of what's-happening. I am in the process of preparing some better tone presets and, through the advice of our friend David Gage (...Read More...
It's too bad it appears Bose has left that project behind (sax-oriented settings), since I've been seeing more & more sax players doing gigs with tracks, either solo, or with one other person; and a Bose set-up, with nice-sounding pre-sets, would be very appealing.Read More...

First gig with Compact

I sold my L1 with the intentions of getting the new Compact. After listing it and selling it on Craigslist within 4 days I quickly picked up the Compact at GC along with the Tone Match. I was not disappointed. Having suffered a stroke almost 2 years ago, I needed to keep my gear as small and light as possible. A last minute call came to play at a local arts and music festival. My main concern was having to play outside and knowing the Compact was recommended for venues holding 100. I was...Read More...

AKG C419 for Sax

Saxhound
I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new systems on Monday. I use the C419 for alto, tenor & bari. Any thoughts on what pre-sets sound best with this mike? I have a pretty bright sound, as I tend to play high baffle metal mouthpieces.Read More...
Hi, I agree about the AMT's difficult clamp - crazy that they've gone for such a fiddly clamp on such a great mic. The Roam-1 is wonderful, it is the most natural sound that I've heard from a clip-on. So if you're sound is 'edgie and bright' that will come through, but it won't be imposed on your sound by the mic - I had the C419 and found it harsh and needing so much EQ. There's a good Sennheiser too (which I have) the E908B, that's a nice tone too. I guess I'd always go for the mic with...Read More...

Non BOSE q but Horn related...

Hi Windplayers one and all... I have a question that I thought you might be able to assist me with a situation regarding communication and gigging. I am a guitarist leading a worship team at a medium sized event in the near future. The genre our team is doing is the modern worship flavor similar to Chris Tomlin, David Crowder, etc. I have been asked to include a single horn player in the event (organizer is a friend of his). However I am balking a bit b/c I have worked with the player before...Read More...

Mics for bagpipes, whistles

In my on-going quest for the "best" microphones within my budget.. Following some advice, I recently bought an AKG c3000b large-diaphragm mic for my Border bagpipes. It is tricky to mic the bagpipe chanter because the sound of different notes comes out of different fingerholes (spaced over about 5 inches). The AKG mic does a good job of picking up the sound from all the notes. Seems to be the best solution so far. As far as I can tell there isn't a preset on the T1, but a flat setting seems...Read More...

OT - Trumpet player learning sax fingerings

Curious if anyone has gone through this. Our EVI player is leaving the band soon and being a former trumpet player thought about learning to play a Steiner EVI (I'm the keyboardist now). Problem is finding a Steiner model. Other option is to pick up one of the sax controllers and learn those fingerings. Is this realistic given limited practice time? Last resort would be to get a Yamaha Breath Controller for my Motif. Any thoughts or comments are welcome! Thanks! LarryRead More...

How to keep an instrument from drying?

I have an instrument called "Qeej" and it's made of bamboo and mahogany wood. If the instrument is not being played everyday, the bamboo will get dry and change the tune or simply not working at all. I need some time of steam case or machine that will keep this instrument moist or not so dry all the time. Is there such a case or machine?Read More...
Hello justChuck, Do you have any kind of case for the Qeej now? If so, maybe you could use a humidifier like people use for guitars. You probably want to find out what the ideal relative humidity should be, and get some kind of hygrometer so you can make sure you are in the right range. You might consider something like this: Humicase In-Case Humidity Control Package (above does not constitute and endorsement - just information).Read More...

Tone Match Effects Settings For Saxophone

Hi I have recently purchased an L1 II PAS with tone match and I am enjoying experimenting with the different sounds with my alto and soprano saxophones using an SM57 microphone. New - Need Advice on Clarinet and Sax

Hi, Recently I have taken up an interest to play the Tenor or Alto Sax and/or the Clarinet. It has been increasingly interesting for me since learning about my Grandfather and his life spent playing in bands and his own band during the 'Big Band' Era. I have loved 'Big Band' music for years and for me to just learn these things; it has softened my heart to do more...especially in memory of my Grandfather. I am a learner at this point and need some help looking for a Tenor Sax and Clarinet. I...Read More...

Hi justTom, Quite the endeavor I must say. I think twice before changing the strings on my 12 string acoustic guitar. I'd love to hear it when you have your unit finished. I thought that this could be beneficial for you because of the products ability to penetrate and solidify. You will find more information on their...Read More...

Distortion Pop

Hello I recently went to a local Guitar center store to try the Bose PAS system with my trumpet. I was using a Countryman Isomax II (cardoid) mic I have connected on my horn via a boom (not wireless) and we plugged it into the PAS system and activated the phantom power. Playing through the system sounded pretty good. I have to go back with some fellow musicians to re-check it, but we had one problem that the sales person didn't know how to solve. On certain notes, when attacked hard (both...Read More...
