Blue Encore 300 condenser mic

christidestrom
I just got my first condenser... after a bad craigslist buy where I purchased a Beta 87 knock-off that wasn't even a condenser! Today I got the Blue encore 300 currently price just below $170. Not bad. I read a very nice review where Blue reps said they had used the neumann KMS mics as reference. sweeeeet! I have not gigged with it yet, just set up my L1 MII/T1 in the bedroom. This mic is HOT! I mean the output is so high that I can turn the gain ALL the way down and have excellent sound. I...Read More...
Thanks to all who posted about the Blue 300 and the Bose. Just ordered one and am happy to read that it works so well with the Bose. Heard recently that it is no longer in production...not sure if that is true. My wife (alto) and I used a Blue Encore 200 a few weeks ago, with the Bose and we loved it. My son hated the sound of his Sure (not the real name of the product) so we had to purchase another Blue Encore for him. I always try to step up a bit, looking forward to the 300...Classic Bose L1.Read More...

How to connect two L1 compacts and a Mackie Pro FX 8 mixer and mic and laptop

I use jazz backing tracks to provide music for my vocals. What is the proper way to connect my digital Shure ULX Beta 58 digital mic and a Mackie Pro FX 8 mixer and my Macbook Pro. How do I decide if I need two compact units or just one?Read More...
Hi Rene, You've raised some great points. If you don't have a preference, then you're probably fine with mono. It makes things simpler in lots of ways. That means that you can set up your system the same way for small rooms and larger venues. Simple. This depends on your skill with the Mackie Pro FX 8 mixer. The T1® has a Preset for your Shure ULX Beta 58 digital microphone. That takes out all the guesswork for getting great sound from your L1® (whichever model). You can read all about how...Read More...

Audix OM6 or OM7

What is the bestter vocal mic for a baritone standards singer? I am choosing between the Audix OM6 and OM7. Thank you!Read More...
I use the OM7 occasionally. It's great for loud bands with incredible gain before feedback. The vocals really cut through the mix. If you're having trouble with feedback it might be great but for an average volume performance I feel like it can be little harsh & nasally. As mentioned above you do need a mixer with good pre-amps as you have to really crank the gain. Don't even think about it if your singer can't stay right on their mic. I use a Mackie DL1608 which seems to have good...Read More...

Shure KSM9 anyone?

jdbassentertainment.com
Hi everyone, does anyone have any experience with this mic. I currently own the Shure Beta 87a, Beta 58a, 55 Deluxe, EV N/D 767a and Heil PR20 mics... I am looking to possibly add a premium vocal mic. I am thinking about adding one of these to my tool box (if it's worth it). Would I gain anything compared to the vocal mics I have so far? How is it on a loud stage? - If I get one I am thinking about getting the HS version... Hyper/Sub - Cardioid Any input on the Shure KSM9 would be greatly...Read More...

Will Neumann KMS 105 Help Solve This Problem?

Musicianthomas
Greetings Gang! I have read ALL of the many posts and comparisons concerning the Neumann KMS 105 mic, both here and the many, many other online reviews and forums. (of which 99% are 5 star all the way reviews). Most all my equipment is top notch, all the way from my Bose L1 Model II and T1 Tonematch down to every single cable being Mogami. I have no problem investing 700.00 more on a mic that will give me forever pristine excellence, despite the $700 "ouch bite". I play several shows per...Read More...
Yes, Dave!! Thanks and congrats on the KMS-105! I'm very happy with it. I am going to test your settings with my own to see how that works. Because now I have a new situation. Since I began this posting, I began having some footswitch button problems with my Voicelive Play GTX....being 4 years old and the switch hit thousands and thousands of times I have no complaint really. But I've changed purchasing the Voicelive 3 Extreme......and now I have a similar, but newer "getting it just right"...Read More...

Help with Settings Please

Hi, I bought the BOSE L1 Model II with B2 base module and T1 Tonematch system a little while ago. As a female vocalist who works primarily in small/medium venues, I have found that I am not getting the sound/power I would expect. I am using a wireless Shure SM58 mic. I'm not very good on the 'technical' stull, so just need someone who can please tell me the best way to set up the 'Tonematch' to get the best sound. I use a stereo Android Tablet for my backing tracks which I plus into channel...Read More...
Hi Michelle, ST's covered the T1 so I won't repeat any of that. His Tutorial Videos are excellent and should help you on your way. After you've tried ST's suggestions I would think that your backing tracks at least should be where you want them (as far as volume goes anyway). If you're still not getting the microphone where you need it without feedback I would then ask you how close is the microphone to your lips when you use it? Here on the Forum we tend to preach what we call "close...Read More...

Which Mic do "YOU" use, and why?

Mister "D"
I see the microphone question has been discussed here many times. The choices for a microphone are so numerous and the prices are all over the board. I see that ST and a few others prefers the Neumann KMS105. Other the Audix OM5. And a few others. MF lists the Neumann at 699. An Audix OM5 for 159, OM7 for 229. I do realize that the Neumann is a condenser mic and the Audix is not. I am a solo entertainer / singer and I currently use the OM7. I guess my question is has anybody compared these...Read More...

Now What Mic to Choose

A few weeks ago everyone on the forum helped convince me to buy the PAS. GREAT DECISION!!!!! I could not be happier. We bought 2 systems from my vocal trio...a small Mackie Mixer and we sing with tracks. I've been using SM58 mics that we borrowed but now it's time to buy. Money is an object and was leaning to the 58's but I was told the Beta 58's are even better. In my research though I've seen reviews from owners of PAS that they get low end feedback from the Beta. I don't have access to be...Read More...
Hi Oldghm, Thanks again for the tip. Mark (Le5) helped me to find a supplier in Canada (Long & McQuade) and I picked up several of them for a house concert venue. I haven't fired one up yet, but probably will do that later tonight. Thanks again! STRead More...

Gain Structure/feedback issue

Hello, I've owned my L1 for a very long time and I've used it as a PA with three mics into my ToneMatch. I'm still having feedback problems even with the tower a good 10ft. behind that band. I have the base set on about 3 but and the gain at less than 50% (no red). At this setting the PA is not as loud as it should be without running the volume controls 3/4 to wide open. What am I doing wrong? It seems like the feedback problem has gotten progressively worse. Could this be a repair issue?Read More...
ST, I forgot to report back, I apologize. Yes I've tried it once and using the noise gate definitely helped. I am still experimenting however. I started out with the default settings -70db at 50%. It helped immensely however as the night progressed the band naturally got a little louder so we started getting a little ring. I pushed the threshold up all the way with no noticable benefit. I never touched the 50% setting. I think this is what I need to adjust a bit. I'm not really clear on what...Read More...

Starting Point T1 - Vocals

Hi! Picking up a T1 today. I typically use a Mic Mechanic TC Helicon for pitch correction and some reverb. I like that sound, but want less gear. I use a Sennheiser e835 mic. Telefunken M80 preset

I have this same question. I did a search and found no responses to this issue on this site. Have you found a preset that works for you? Would anyone else care to chime in with their experience in using a Telefunken m80 mic with the T1? Thank you for any suggestions you may have.Read More...
I've had an AudioTechnica for many years. Worked great for the most part. Had to be recalibrated a couple times. However it is RACKMOUNTED, and would be a clumsy / sloppy stage presence to have the half width metal box w/ antennaes on the ground next to the L1. Any cool newer products people dig? MarkRead More...
It's been so long; I'd forgotten about this thread. I contacted AudioTechnica, and got the impression that my ATW35 (think that's the model #) and the headset I have are probably still pretty good quality by today's standards. They aren't convenient to plug into my L1; I took them off the rackmount PA/amp I have, and am hoping to try them out first time this weekend. I might either make a small cabinet/carry case for them in my woodshop and use them more in the future, or I might sell them...Read More...

pop & sibilants

Curious to know if anyone has tweeked setting on the tonematch to deal with pops and sibilants. We previously were using a traditional 6 mic mixer and an amp and had no problem with this. We love our L1/B2, but with the clearer sounds and power comes challenges in avoid a lot of extraneous noise - vocal pops as well as very live mic stands. We're using a couple of Sure SM58s and a sennheiser with foam screens.Read More...
Hi Clayton, Thank you for joining the Forum. The easiest way I know to deal with pops is to get right up on the microphone. That seems counter-intuitive, but try it. If your lips are right up against the windscreen the pops all but disappear. Are you using the Presets for the Shure SM58 and Sennheiser microphones? If not, then do that first. To help with the handling noise (very live mic stands), try using the ParaEQ . Here is an article about Using the ParaEq to Solve Problems Does that...Read More...

L1 Model 1 vocal effects - T1?

Hi. I'm a professional jazz vocalist. I've been using a Model 1 since 2010. I run the vocals straight in, so no reverb, etc. I'm playing some really dry rooms, and several musician listeners have suggested it's time I abandon my minimalist proclivities and get something that I can use for vocal effects. My knowledge of sound systems is very limited. As far as I know, I really just need a little reverb. Reading this board, I see the T1 is highly recommended. I haven't shopped for a Bose in a...Read More...

This is very cool! Years ago I watched a TV show where Mariah Carey and Boys to Men performed so many vocal acrobatics and melisma that is was astonishing. And boring; the melody was obliterated and the performance was cold and sterile to me. Stevie Wonder understood (stands) melisma; used sparingly, it's a great spark. Overused, it's a melody killer. Some of my favorite vocalists (notice I didn't say 'singers') include Dylan in his prime, Tom Waits and Johnny Cash. Nobody would ever accuse...Read More...

EV N/D967 CONCERT MICROPHONE

I'm confused as to which of the two positions of the special switch does what. In other words, which position is normal and which one gives an effect of some sort? Hi Wes, I think the explanation and the chart are not the easiest to understand, but with a bit of study I think I figured it out. The dotted line in the graph shows the proximity effect when lips are very close or touching the mic. The solid line represents use a few inches from the mic. Generally with a vocal mic, a few inches would suggest 2 to 5. In both cases the lower of the lines would indicate the attenuation when the switch is in the appropriate presence position. Proximity effect...Read More...

TC-Helicon VoiceLive 3

I picked up my TC-Helicon VoiceLive 3 on Friday. It's been a fun ride this weekend. I'm putting this discussion in the Vocals section even though I got this primarily for guitar, then as a looper (composition tool and rehearsal) and if it turns out that I use the vocal effects, that will be a bonus. I've been using a TC-Helicon VoiceLive Play GTX for 18 months or so. Up to this point this was the only product in the TC-Helicon line that had guitar amp simulation. I still have my L1 Model II, and I've been using the VL3 since August; had to send it back for the whine issue, but that was fast and painless, works great. I find myself tweaking the EQ too much (very expressive) sometimes. I have several presets (guitar) and need to work on the vocal presets. However, to get more out of this I plan to make a few guitar presets where each is dialed in for each guitar to create a core clean tone; then I will add my Two Notes Torpedo CAB with presets to...Read More...

Hi krugjr, I run the Neumann KMS 105 straight into the T1 and use the T1 Preset for KMS 105. Question re: Samson Airline wireless headset mic

I'm looking into a wireless headset mic, and noticed that Samson makes a couple that look similar to a Countryman, but cheaper.
