TC-Helicon VoiceLive 3

ST
I picked up my TC-Helicon VoiceLive 3 on Friday. It's been a fun ride this weekend. I'm putting this discussion in the Vocals section even though I got this primarily for guitar, then as a looper (composition tool and rehearsal) and if it turns out that I use the vocal effects, that will be a bonus. I've been using a TC-Helicon VoiceLive Play GTX for 18 months or so. Up to this point this was the only product in the TC-Helicon line that had guitar amp simulation. The looper was basic but at...Read More...

Heil Fin mic and vintage tone

First time here, I have a T1 tone match and 2 L1 portable speakers for a swanky old school jazz group. Two questions: 1. We're using a Heil Fin Microphone for a female vocalist, would High Gain Bright be my best tone match setting since there isn't a preset for it? Any other suggestions from you veteran users for zQ/Comp/Mod/Verb/delay etc. for this genre? 2. Does anyone here have a good vocal setting to get that "tin can" old time record sound (or something close?) Thanks for reading this..Read More...
Hi DSC, Welcome to the Bose Portable PA Community. Try this Preset - the first choice for generic vocal microphones Category: Vocal Mics Preset: Handheld Mics and I looked at the specifications for the Heil The Fin Mic and based on that, try Category: Vocal Mics Preset: Audix OM5 And here's some information about the ToneMatch Presets . First, start with the gain staging: Here are some ideas about the ToneMatch Presets and zEQ No specific suggestions except that you probably don't need Mod...Read More...

Got a new mic - Audix VX5

Tom Munch
I finally wanted to try a different vocal mic again. I've been using a Shure Beta 87A or an Audix OM5 for the most part over the past couple years. I also have an AKG C535EB that sees some use. The 535 was the mic that I was told I sounded best on when we did the shootout at the Bose conference in Ashland back in 2006. I like the way the 87 cuts, but it also feeds back a little more than I like even with judicious EQ usage. The OM5 sees mostly L1 Compact duty when I go direct in since the 87...Read More...
I have tried the Hi-Pass filter. It seems to take too much bass away for me. I really like living with a mic for a week or so and seeing what all it can do. All of the mics I tried really have different qualities. The only one that I had difficulty using was the Sennheiser. It had similar high-end feedback problems as the 87.Read More...

Now What Mic to Choose

A few weeks ago everyone on the forum helped convince me to buy the PAS. GREAT DECISION!!!!! I could not be happier. We bought 2 systems from my vocal trio...a small Mackie Mixer and we sing with tracks. I've been using SM58 mics that we borrowed but now it's time to buy. Money is an object and was leaning to the 58's but I was told the Beta 58's are even better. In my research though I've seen reviews from owners of PAS that they get low end feedback from the Beta. I don't have access to be...Read More...

T1 Microphone Settings for Electro-Voice N/D967 T1 And Others.

I have the L1c with the T1 ToneMatch which I use for Karaoke with family and friends. I have four mics that I use, N/D967, AKG D5 S, Audix OM-2 and a Samson UHF Series ONE wireless. I get confused by the terminology when trying to set-up the mics and also when I try to set-up delay or reverb. My preference seems to be the N/D967 but I'm confused by the personality switch when doing the set-up. Which position should I use and what reverb or delay should I use. Also, any help with all the mics...Read More...

Looking to change eq to Bose system

I now use 2 EV 1115 active speakers, an Allen & Heath zed 10 mixer for larger gigs, 2 EV ZXA 8" speakers with mixer for smaller gigs. We have a vocal trio using backup tracks...Getting too old to be my own roadie with the Equipment...too long a setup and tear down...Looking at Bose L1 IS w/B2 bass, with aT8S or T4S mixer, or the L1 II w/ B2 bass and same mixer choice. Would like suggestions. Thanks.Read More...
Hi Rich, Thanks for the additional information. Let's get you looking at the right part of the menu (in the new restaurant). For audiences of 100-300, you'll need an L1 Model 1S or L1 Model II. The L1 Model 1S is great for up to 300 attentive listeners The L1 Model II would be better for outdoor shows and noisy situations. Audience sing-a-long situations will work better with the L1 Model II. For your audience ("audience usually 55+, they'll sing-a-long"), you don't need volume as much as...Read More...

Two L1's using 1 Alesis Nanoverb ?

Greetings all; I was wondering if anyone has experience using two LI's with one Alesis Nanoverb for vocals. Specifically, we have 2 LI's, one for myself as guitar/vocals, the other is the bassist/vocals. Our vocals would be coming out of the channel 1 inserts from each of our systems. It appears the only way to connect from the inserts on each of our systems is 1 insert from one system to the left input of the Nanoverb and the other systems insert connected to the right input of the...Read More...

Problem using TC Helicon Harmony G-XT with L1

Hi Been a while since Ive been on this forum! Basically, I can't hear my vocals through the Harmony G-XT, but I can hear my guitar! Bought the G-XT in Guitar Centre in Manhattan NY, but I live in Ireland! Using a 240v adaptar to power it over here. So I am going Guitar and Mic into the G-XT. Mic OUtput is Left (Mono) to Channel 1 on the L1. My mic is a Neumann KMS 105. I've checked both mic leads into Channel 1 and they both work fine. I have phantom power switched on! T1/T4S Tonematch or TC Helicon Mic Mechanic 2 ?

Hi guys, I am asking recommendation on these 2 units from people who tried them. I am a singer/guitarist, own a S1 Pro and use it for live gigs and for busking outside. I am looking at the best option that could fit both venues. For Busking, I could go away with the S1 Pro alone if it weren't for its ugly reverb. Especially on the vocals you need some reverb to sound good in open spaces. Thus I've been looking at the Mic Mechanic 2 from TC Helicon, which seemingly has a nice reverb plus...Read More...
Robin, Not exactly what you are after, but... I am having great luck combining the Boss VE-8 and the Bose S1 Pro. The VE-8 gives me two channels, one for guitar and the other for a mic, both with terrific processing and effects. It also has a looper for the guitar and the mic, if you use those. The VE-8 runs on six AA batteries. I use rechargeable batteries, and I swap them out at 5 or 6 hours. I run from the headphone out of the VE-8 into the aux in on the S1 Pro using a sturdy cable that I...Read More...

Singing without amplification

ST
Riffing off some things J.D. Puente posted in S1 Pro Reviews Hi J.D. If I sing without some amplification and decent monitoring, I push my voice too hard. I had to work with a speech pathologist awhile back. She said that to be intelligible, I had to be 20 dB louder than the noise floor and for most people, this is nearly impossible in a public setting. The 20 dB figure seemed high to me, but the principle seemed sound. Here are some notes: She said that for spoken word and singing, I should...Read More...

A popular, interesting artist, very good songwriter. Sturgill Simpson, another Ky artist has helped Tyler break through into the big time. Tyler has made this style work for him, but his impact on lesser artist is what I was speaking about. Blue Encore 300 condenser mic

christidestrom
I just got my first condenser... after a bad craigslist buy where I purchased a Beta 87 knock-off that wasn't even a condenser! Today I got the Blue encore 300 currently price just below $170. Not bad. I read a very nice review where Blue reps said they had used the neumann KMS mics as reference. sweeeeet! I have not gigged with it yet, just set up my L1 MII/T1 in the bedroom. This mic is HOT! I mean the output is so high that I can turn the gain ALL the way down and have excellent sound. I...Read More...
Thanks to all who posted about the Blue 300 and the Bose. Just ordered one and am happy to read that it works so well with the Bose. Heard recently that it is no longer in production...not sure if that is true. My wife (alto) and I used a Blue Encore 200 a few weeks ago, with the Bose and we loved it. My son hated the sound of his Sure (not the real name of the product) so we had to purchase another Blue Encore for him. I always try to step up a bit, looking forward to the 300...Classic Bose L1.Read More...

How to connect two L1 compacts and a Mackie Pro FX 8 mixer and mic and laptop

I use jazz backing tracks to provide music for my vocals. What is the proper way to connect my digital Shure ULX Beta 58 digital mic and a Mackie Pro FX 8 mixer and my Macbook Pro. How do I decide if I need two compact units or just one?Read More...
Hi Rene, You've raised some great points. If you don't have a preference, then you're probably fine with mono. It makes things simpler in lots of ways. That means that you can set up your system the same way for small rooms and larger venues. Simple. This depends on your skill with the Mackie Pro FX 8 mixer. The T1® has a Preset for your Shure ULX Beta 58 digital microphone. That takes out all the guesswork for getting great sound from your L1® (whichever model). You can read all about how...Read More...

Audix OM6 or OM7

What is the bestter vocal mic for a baritone standards singer? I am choosing between the Audix OM6 and OM7. Thank you!Read More...
I use the OM7 occasionally. It's great for loud bands with incredible gain before feedback. The vocals really cut through the mix. If you're having trouble with feedback it might be great but for an average volume performance I feel like it can be little harsh & nasally. As mentioned above you do need a mixer with good pre-amps as you have to really crank the gain. Don't even think about it if your singer can't stay right on their mic. I use a Mackie DL1608 which seems to have good...Read More...

Shure KSM9 anyone?

Hi everyone, does anyone have any experience with this mic. I currently own the Shure Beta 87a, Beta 58a, 55 Deluxe, EV N/D 767a and Heil PR20 mics... I am looking to possibly add a premium vocal mic. I am thinking about adding one of these to my tool box (if it's worth it). Would I gain anything compared to the vocal mics I have so far? Greetings Gang! I have read ALL of the many posts and comparisons concerning the Neumann KMS 105 mic, both here and the many, many other online reviews and forums. (of which 99% are 5 star all the way reviews). Most all my equipment is top notch, all the way from my Bose L1 Model II and T1 Tonematch down to every single cable being Mogami. Help with Settings Please

Hi, I bought the BOSE L1 Model II with B2 base module and T1 Tonematch system a little while ago. As a female vocalist who works primarily in small/medium venues, I have found that I am not getting the sound/power I would expect. I am using a wireless Shure SM58 mic. I'm not very good on the 'technical' stull, so just need someone who can please tell me the best way to set up the 'Tonematch' to get the best sound. I use a stereo Android Tablet for my backing tracks which I plus into channel...Read More...
Hi Michelle, ST's covered the T1 so I won't repeat any of that. His Tutorial Videos are excellent and should help you on your way. After you've tried ST's suggestions I would think that your backing tracks at least should be where you want them (as far as volume goes anyway). If you're still not getting the microphone where you need it without feedback I would then ask you how close is the microphone to your lips when you use it? Here on the Forum we tend to preach what we call "close...Read More...
