NATIONAL DJ ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT REVIEW

I just wanted to report on my first weekend of using my new BOSE system. I use the word power in parenthesis because two different meanings for the same word were revealed to me this past weekend. On Friday Night I had an event at my local NFL Stadium out on the field. I have done this event for the previous 4 years so this was my 5th and first with the BOSE system. The sound that came out of those two towers and 4 B1s was something like I have never heard before. It literally filled the...Read More...

My set up is; Tonematch (Housed on the microphone stand.) BT's from iPad (also housed on the mic stand) running in Stage Traxx Neumann KMS 104 Line 6 Pod Hd 500. It was a cinch to set up and I was thrilled with the sound from the outset. There was no compromise on it's sound at all after always using my L1 Model II at the same venue last year(not...Read More...

That is because I never heard myself so well, so clearly, and so beautifully before"!

quote: Originally posted by Yinkamd: I just bought an L1 S system yesterday and used it for a rehearsal for the first time this morning. Let me give some background. The artist is Patrice Jegou (www.patricejegou.com) a female jazz/classical singer performing with a jazz quartet (bass, drums, piano and guitar) and a 12 piece orchestra (strings, horns, woodwinds). This is her first gig with such a setup, and I was extremely concerned about getting the sound right. I was ready to buy whatever...Read More...

ProAudio Reviews Bose L1® Model 1S with B2 Bass Module and T1 ToneMatch Audio Engine

Live Review: Bose L1 Model 1S with B2 Bass Module and ToneMatch Audio Engine By Strother Bullins for Pro Audio Review 03.25.2013 Bose offers a “personal line array” that is well built, easily transportable and super intuitive. With an intuitive, well made product line, Bose L1 Portable Line Array Systems address the needs of self-mixed musicians, bands, or DJs. Judging by their lowest cost rig — the L1 Compact priced at approximately $1k — these wouldn’t be considered “budget” systems and...Read More...

Another satisfied customer!

Hi Folks Last year I bought a compact for school and I must say it does the perfect job in assemblies. So good in fact that I used outside school for solo gigs and was again very impressed. One of my band members, Dave, was going to a James Taylor concert here in England at the Birmingham LG Arena. So he thought it would be a good idea to take his guitar along and do a bit of busking in the car park to raise some money for Teenage Cancer Trust. I told him he should phone them first, which he...Read More...

Band and DJ share L1s...

My band Happy Pants played at a friend's wedding last night. The reception hall was in the basement of the hotel so I used the complimentary dollies and wheeled in my L1 gear. There was also a DJ who was going to play stuff during dinner and between our sets. As luck would have it he had loaded in some of his stuff when the elevator broke. So rather than having him continue to load in his heavy speakers I told him he could run lines to Channel 4/5 of one of my Bose systems. I had brought 5...Read More...

The whole weekend with me running live sound for Ashland, WI Bay Days Festival was a total success!!! In fact I was totally blown away by the phenomenal performance of the L1/B1's all weekend long!!!! Smile Here's some videos. *** please keep in mind it sounded WAY better in person... I am using my Casio Exilim 10.2 MP camera to shoot all the video with NO post production on the audio. Performing for 60 teenagers...

Played at a church leading worship last night for about 60 teenagers. Everything went great. I could believe how fast I was set up and how good it all sounded. I tore down and was loaded out in 20 minutes and because of all the teenagers I didn't carry a thing in or out. Usually I don't like to let kids carry to much of my stuff because it's so heavy and hard to handle, but this time I handed each kid one piece each and we walked to the van. This is so much nicer and the sound was awesome...Read More...

Using L1 Compact for a speaking engagement...

I just wanted to thank those involved with the design, engineering, and product development of the Bose L1 Compact. I've been a L1 Model II system owner (have 2 systems with B1s and T1s) for a few years now, that are used for our band performances. But, I hadn't purchased a L1 Compact, like so many other musicians have here, because I really never thought I had a need for it, until now. Recently, I was asked to do a presentation on the National Weather Services' program called, SKYWARN. I'm...Read More...

Not enough punch from drums...

We got our volume up as loud as we've ever had it at this outdoor gig tonight. And my drums sounded really lost in the mix and I wasn't getting any clear punch to them at all. I never had this happen with them before, I go straight into a L1M1 with 4 bass bins. Some kits were a little better than others, i also noticed on the trigger display that I was often hitting the peak. I turned down the channel input on the L1M1 and it seemed to help a little. Anyone else run into this scenario? Did...Read More...

Can 1 L1 work with 4 vocals, kick drum and keys???

Contemplating joining the Bose family. Currently looking to replace my existing traditional PA with a Bose System. The intent is to use one L1 Model II with extra sub and two tonematch ports to support four vocal mics, one kick drum mic and keyboards. I know that this does not conform to the existing Bose philosophy. However, any feedback or comments would be appreciated are welcome. BTW, traditional backline for the bass and guitar. -- milesbass, July 30, 2011 -- full discussion hereRead More...

L1 vs. traditional PA systems...

Was at an audition last night with eight other acts. The first five acts went on first, then once they finished there was to be a quick break where everyone, had to get their gear down, and the next four acts to set up their gear!. it was a fairly small venue, so you can imagine the ensuing chaos!. anyway I was rushing to set my gear up and i couldnt push the bottom tower speaker into the base unit. I kept trying but realised there was a small black lug preventing the tower from locating in...Read More...

Just wanted to say the L1 is amazing with karaoke. No feed back, clear vocals, great sound with the music. Can't wait to take this out. Just bought L1 M1 with 2 b1s. So expensive, but so worth it! -- d.j. lori g., April 29, 2011 -- full thread hereRead More...

Bose Service and Support review...

Just wanted to say that in these days of automated & out sourced support, it was like a breath of fresh air dealing with Bose this morning. Not only did an actual human being immediately pickup the phone, he also spoke fluent English. Then come to find out, my issue was under warranty. Concerned about ToneMatch...

I dont know what I did when I set the Tonematch up originally, but I was unhappy with some of the issues I was having. Mainly, feedback on my Low E string during songs, Guitar way too bassy, Vocals not clear and compression kicking in way too soon...Just a bad set up from me. THEN I read about the scenes...lol Little late to figure this out, but better than never. SO, I worked off the singer/songwriter setting and just personalized it. WOW...MUCH better. My wife told me that she could hear a...Read More...

What a great piece of gear...

A friend of mine was kind enough to lend us his 2 L1 systems for a gig for our 18-piece big band about 3 years ago. I play bass and I'm also responsible for the sound. We had the L1's coupled (behind band) with some traditional drivers (for FOH) and the sound for the evening was generally very good. The musicians were non-the-wiser since all they were concerned with was whether the monitor mix was in order; no complaints were received , which was very usual because sound issues are a...Read More...

Overpowering a house system with L1 Compacts...

I was at a Resturant the other night doing a Fundraiser. The owner came up to me and told me I could just plug right into their speaker system if I can just get the signal to their stereo receiver. I used the Bose T1 Mixer and ran a RCA out of the reciever it to the Channel 4/5 of the T1 and used a 1/4" to RCA mono splitter and ran 25 feet of RCA cable to the reciever. This worked buy sounded horrible. At some point during the night, I brought in both of my Compacts from the truck and placed...Read More...

L1 systems in marble room...

I've been working at the Pittsburgh Carnegie Museum since 2007 with my Bose L1's. Every time I'm there the staff is amazed with the sound quality they provide in a LARGE, Marble covered room. L1 Compact at an "Art show"...

I get to try out my Compact again tomorrow evening. I'm playing an art show. It will last about 1 hour, but I'll have about 1.5 hours of music prepared. I play solo, with backing tracks for most songs. I'll be using my Compact with T1 and Digitech VL3 harmonizer. I also use a Zoom G2 for amp modeling only, but with the T1 I probably don't need it. I use the effects on the T1 for my guitar. I've only played out with the Compact a few other times, the last one was last summer. So it's been a...Read More...

L1 sounds "tinny" on vocals...

hi, I am a new owner of an L1 Model II with T1® (T1 ToneMatch® Audio Engine) and 2x B1s. I traded in my HK elias and after my first gig, I am disappointed with the overall sound. My HK gear had a very lovely deep rich and crisp sound which I can't replicate with the Bose. Maybe the Bose is just crisp sounding without the rich sound and if that is the case then I will have to change again, but does anyone know how to acheive the sound I am looking for? It also could be the way I had the bose...Read More...

Comparison of hand made arrays to Bose L1 Model II

For most of my married life I have been making speaker boxes, some for other people and most for myself and my band. A few years ago when the first Bose L1 came out, I went to the store and had a close look at this new sound system. The salesman couldn't play the Bose in the store, but I realized then that they were column speakers (or linear arrays) - but completely different to anything I had seen. Bose seemed to be doing something that all the "established" literature for their design...Read More...

Unconventional use of the unconventional...

I spent a lot of time researching using this very informative forum before deciding to go out a buy a L1 mk1 with a B1 I liked very much the idea that we would not need to use monitoring on stage and that we would hear what the audience hears. i spent a lot of time on the feedback wiki. Hearing the quality of sound made me go out and buy a second unit off eBay with 2 B1s Our band plays blues rock and consists of me on guitar , a vocalist and a loud! Drummer. We play with mainstage proving a...Read More...
