Fuses & USB Recording

Just took delivery of an L1 system and it is truly wonderful, can't wait for the first gig. Just one thing though. I have read the odd post on this excellent site where people say they 'changed a fuse' in a certain situation. Can I change them on a Model 2? I can't see where it would be located. Secondly, somewhere I read that you can record live through the USB on the Tonematch. Is there a thread you can point me to, I use Logic software All the best PaulRead More...

L1 model 1 with the T1?

Hi everyone - I've been playing guitar and singing for 50 years... and I believe the Bose system is what I've always wanted! My question is: can I use the T1 with the older model 1 system? Seems like a good way to have 2 extra mic inputs, by running the T1 into the line in on input 3 or 4. Will this work? Will it sound as good as into the model II? I really want to buy one of these systems - and I can get a model 1 for less than the model II. Only having 3 inputs on the T1 seems rather...Read More...

Hi GretaJ I just read through the manual for the TC-helicon Voicetone Create . It looks like you can follow the instructions pages 6 through 10 inclusive. I also looked at the Manual for the TC Helicon VoiceTone Correct and there are instructions for connecting two VoiceTone devices in series on Page 12. You could run Microphone to Correct Correct to Create Create to Model I (or Classic) Power Stand Channels 1 or 2. After you figure out the VoiceTone settings make sure that you Model I (or...Read More...

I guess this is the right category for this, uh, "technology": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oGFogwcx-E No, it's not SNL. Here's from the source: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/projects/songsmith/index.htmlRead More...
Come on, Alan. That's Great Art there. Plus it's got a great beat and you can dance to it. And tonematch for Songsmith? Oh, puh-leeze. It sounds like a virtual orchestra at the click of a mouse or button or whatever anyone uses for this. I'm hoping to up the ante on that particular rock ballad using my own version of Songsmith (incidentally, who is "DLR"? David Clayton Thomas? That's him, isn't it? I wish he sounded healthier. Voice Live 2

Hi I saw with interest that TC Helicon is adding the Voicelive 2 to its range of products. http://www.tc-helicon.com/pressrelease.asp?ajrDcmntID=10283 I play saxophone through a Bose L1 II with Tonematch and was wondering the best way to connect this to my system - either via the tonematch or via the base of the L1 II? Thanks MarkRead More...
markemark, You could connect through either the Analog Input on a model II or any of the inputs on the T1 (although 4/5 would be the best since it is specifically for line inputs, leaving 1-2-3 open for mics and instruments). If you choose to use a ToneMatch preset with the VL2, then you will need to use the T1 inputs. For many processors, folks have found that they do not need to use a ToneMatch preset, since the processors are voiced fairly neutral and sound good through an L1 already. MikeRead More...

The 4th floor is sucking up bass!!

jayare 2
Hi all..I frequently play solo at a VA hospital. Sometimes they have me in an auditorium..no problem..but occasionally, they will have me on the 4th floor of the bldg,in the activity room. I have noticed a BIG drop-off in bass when I am up there...I can even turn up the low eq on the T1 almost all the way without any noticeable bass increase.Would a pad of some sort ,under the B1 help any??..Just wonderin! thanks JohnRead More...
When treating rooms for recording purposes, dealing with bass frequencies is notoriously challenging. One thing you might notice is "bass traps" placed in 90 degree corners. That is because those corners act as amplifiers for bass frequencies. if you aim the b1 at a corner (like turning it toward the wall), you may get a corresponding bump in bass response, but bear in mind that the increase may not be even across the B1's range.Read More...
Heh gang... one of my speaker cases is giving me trouble... the zipper is broken I've tried everything to fix, to no avail... called Bose, but I can only buy a complete set of cases for $120 CDN... I've checked ebay, but also only complete sets available... any suggestions on where I can pick up a single speaker case ?... just the regular ones, not the upgraded ones... thanks ! B1: 2 or 4?

I'm currently using an L1, model 2, T1 and double subs. Doing one-man-band and DJ gigs, mostly at weddings. All kinds of rooms (my biggest was 12,000 sq ft so far). I'm wondering how much more beef will I get if I added 2 more subs? Do I have to add the packlite amp?Read More...

best way to record t1 to minidisc?

qbaser
I'm wondering what is the best way to record from T1 direct to my minidisc? I tried using the aux output last night but later realised that the aux output channel levels must be set to the mix I want (but I can't hear the mix that is creating). Basically I just want the mix I am hearing from L1 tower to be the same that goes to my minidisc. So would I instead take the master output to my minidisc? AlRead More...
Hi I record out of tonematch Master out to tascam CD recorde. Recording out of Aux out does not allow any reverb effects to be included in your recording. Master out works fine for me. Hope this helps.Read More...

'Static' noise after 2-3 hours use

Hi guys, I have a jolly decent chap called Dave Speight over here using a classic with a T1. He's had the classic for a good couple of years now with no problems. However, just recently he's had a noise appear, which he describes as a kind of 'static' sound (think detuned radio) after a couple of hours or more use of the L1. The problem does not go away if the unit is switched off and then on fairly quickly, but does go if the unit is turned off and left for a while before switching on...Read More...
Hi guys, Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I know Dave has had the problem in different venues and the problem occurred even with the T1 off and unplugged, so it does sound like his powerstand is to fault. The bad cap thought had crossed my mind so we'll get the unit in for a service. Best wishes, AndyRead More...

Broken power stand shell.

Ok, This is the third time this has happened... cold day, lean the power stand against a rolling rack while I unload the truck, power stand falls over in the black bag, and shatters like an icicle.. I've had 2 shells replaced for the exact same reason in the past, and now I'm there again. Here's my issue... My stand is out of warranty, and I want to purchase a new plastic base for it. Bose has become increasingly uncooperative in the last year or so. I've bought parts before, but now all of...Read More...

Positioning ideas for six musicians on a difficult stage?

After a two year hiatus, we are reforming our old band with the same instrumentation, the same vocalists, and the much of the same equipment. You were very helpful with staging ideas in the past. We are back trying to solve some of the same old problems, hopefully with some new ideas. This is an old thread about our instrumentation from the sketcher forum: http://bose.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/301107819/m/9...211031152#3211031152 The first thing we did was to go out and get two used L1s.Read More...

Is there a FAQ for choosing the best preset for guitars not listed w/ their own preset? I have the following: * Martin J40 w/Fishman Elipse blender * Yamaha APX10 acoustic electric guitar w/ OEM pickup Thanks, MarkRead More...
Mark, The article ST mentions really lays out the process perfectly. If you get a preset thats close but not quite, post about what you hear, and we can probably suggest an alternative preset plus some EQ changes that will get you there. Good luck - and be sure to enjoy the process of getting the tone you want! Its fun and never really ends... MikeRead More...
I'm using DigiTech's Vocalist Live 4 Harmonizer. What PRESETS should I set ch. 1&2 to? Here's how it is typically wired: 1.) VOCAL (XLR SM58) & Acoustic GUITAR (1/4") plug into the HARMONIZER's "Guitar IN" and "Mic IN". 2.) HARMONIZER's 2 XLR OUT cables (w/combined/mixed signal) are plugged into BOSE L1's ch1 & ch2. What should I set PRESETS to? Any other suggestions (configuration, etc.)? Mic is sm58 & Acoustic Yamaha FG345-II w/Fishman Acoustic Matrix transducer/Saddle...Read More...
Hi Mark. Yes, you are correct that I am using the guitar thru and Mono out. It seems to me that the mono out is a "thru" unless you apply effects. I don't need the stereo lines since the Bose is mono. I like the preset for my Beta 58 whether through the Digitech (no effects) or direct to the T1. It sounds the same to me. Keep in mind that I am using the VL2 and I am not positive that the VL4 connects exactly the same. Respect, Col. AndyRead More...

Whatever Happened to Preset Updates for Model I

When I bought the L1 three years ago the user's manual said that Bose was developing additional EQ tonal presets for a large array of instrument possibilities and that the new presets would be made available to owners. Then came the T1 and Bose expects us to purchase this expensive add-on in order to get those newer functions. I'm not looking for echo, reverb, etc...just looking for those promised EQ presets. What happened, Bose?Read More...
dzobel, I bought my L1 model one close to the same time as you, a little earlier I think. I just got the T1 for Christmas. I waited a long time because I wasn't looking to have a bunch of bells and whistles added. That being said, the convenience, functionality and immediately improved sound (presumable from presets and scene shots being pre-configured) made the investment worthwhile for me. If you're committed to using the L1 a lot, I think you might consider the investment. Just my 2 cents...Read More...

using SPDIF outs

Is there any reason that I would HAVE to use the master out on the T1? Or could I go into the L1 model one via the outputs on the back of the T1? Also, since I have the model 1, is there any reason I can't use input 1 & 2 versus 3 & 4? This all has to do with me trying to work a Sonic Maximizer into the chain.Read More...

In Praise of the Maximizer

captacoustic
Reading the subject block, it reminds me of an ad I've seen in the back of a magazine somewhere. But seriously, I got the T1 for Christmas and I've been playing around with it for a while. I love it. Just setting the trim from in front of me instead of hunched over the L1 model 1 is worth it, I think. Here's the thing. I was wondering what the effect on sound would be with the T1, given the scene settings and LR Baggs presets for my Taylor Doyle Dykes. I love the sound. I tried. I REALLY...Read More...

JB GOODE, The Blues Jr. is a great amp - we have two of them here in our lab. A great way to use the amp is to turn it down low and point it toward the side of the stage. Mic it with a Sennheiser e609 (it hangs over without a stand) or a SM57. Lots of guitar players use their amps with the L1. They use the amp to create tone, and then use the L1 to distribute the crafted tone evenly to everyone. If you are playing with a drummer using a 15W tube amp comfortably, then your group should have...Read More...

Dark Stage

Merry Christmas one and all. This may be a bit off-topic, but it is related to performing with the Bose L1s. We use to hang stage lights on poles mounted to SP2s or sub-woofers before we switched to the Bose system. And we were pretty happy with the stability of the lighting system. Now the front of the stage (performers' area) is clean and free of amps and speakers. A light system on free-standing stands is about the only option for illuminating the performers in a dark space with no...Read More...

Cellphone interference

This last week we had cell phone interference problems. We were using my L2T1 with guitar, two vocal, and a sub-board hooked up to it. A friend was recording us out of the T1 from the aux outs to his Mac laptop, using Logic Express. He was not using USB, but the pokey things. Every so often we would get crackling. Jokes about Morse Code and messages from Jakarta took us only so far. I have searched/read everything I could find on this forum. We had cell phone problems before, pre-Bose,...Read More...
Although I have never personally experianced this on an L1, I've experianced this problem a number of times on many different types of gear. The problem you are experiancing is not surprising. The best advice I can give is to shut your cell phones off during a performance or keep it a safe distance from your gear. CraigRead More...
