Noise and Clipping

My L1 Model 1 is doing some strange things... When I turn it on, it sounds as if there is light white noise, almost like wind. This is with nothing plugged in. Lately, it's been clipping and cutting out with both mics and instruments. Is there something I can do? I have it plugged in regularly. Nothing fancy.Read More...

T1® to sit on stacked B1s? - Vintageguy

I am thinking seriously about purchasing a T1 to accompany my classic L1 system. I now utilize 2 B1's stacked sideways. There has been so many negative comments about the mic stand adapter and the apparatus that attaches to the L1 for holding the T1. I currently set a mixer on my sideways-stacked B1's. Is there any reason (assuming that I can keep the unit from vibrating off) that I cannot do the same with a T1? Edit: Expanded title: Previously - VintageguyRead More...
Hi I never trusted that bracket on the mike stand. Too flimsy. Easy to knock off on upward motion. Yeah Yeah....make sure the bevel slopes towards you.I have no idea who designed this but he really blew it. I bought an Xstand with a metal shelf top. I Velcro'ed my tonematch, my laptop, my wireless receiver to it. I could lift the metal shelf upside down and nothing would fall off! Done! You have been warned about the "bracket" that holds your valuable tonematch. The bracket is an accident...Read More...

2 L1's powering 1 passive sub

Hello, I have a passive sub question that I can't seem to find an answer on previous posts. I have 4 Classic L1's and was wondering if I could use 2 passive subs. If I'm thinking correctly, the sub amp on each L1 is 250 Watts. So if I connected 2 L1's to a single passive sub would it be like having 500 watts? I'm not very sharp when it comes to these technical issues. Could I hurt the L1's by having both connected to one sub? Thanks, MarvRead More...
Hi, Marv: Don't do that (connect two amp outputs to one speaker cabinet) ... unless the cabinet actually has a "bi-amp" switch. Connecting two power amp outputs together (which is what you'd effectively be doing) has a good chance of causing damage -- or worse! The other big factor to consider when connecting an external 3rd-party amp is the "impedance" match ... 4 ohm vs 8 ohm, for example. A lesser issue (albeit still important for good sound) is to match the frequency characteristics of...Read More...

No Power on Power Stand

Hi Had my Model II/ tonematch 2/bins for 6 months. Handled with care. I was rehearsing and shut system down. Half hour later Power stand would not power up ( no blue light ). Good cable, good outlet......I called Bose. I am shipping it back tomorrow. They said "two weeks". Glad I kept my "heavy system for backup. I shudder to think if this happend on a gig. Anyone ever have this problem before?Read More...
AJ, Thanks for letting us know that the replacement power stand took care of things. It is also interesting to read your notes on system placement, I am glad that you were able to achieve such great results. Neil NeilRead More...

Learning how NOT to set up the band

DrumrPete
My favorite band, The Cubs, a trio, have always, always, set up our gear in the same way. Like This: This method has always worked beautifully for hearing each other, especially the vocals. Guitarist & I always sound really *tight* in this position, and we never have problems hearing each other. Posts a while back by Valvenerd made me wonder why some have problems with the vocal blend. It's something I didn't understand. But recently, we ran into that problem, a real eye-opener. It was...Read More...

Bose Companion PC speakers as studio monitors?

DrumrPete
This is not L1 related, sorry, but I had to post this. I read a post in the Presonus Forums recently from a guy who was using a set of Bose Companion II PC speakers in his studio, and had put his Mackies in the closet. I thought...NO WAY! Not designed for studio monitoring...too *colored*. But I also figured, I like Bose stuff, and that as a set of *alternates*, like the old Auratone Cubes, they might be useful...so I bought a set. They didn't really impress me too much, compared to my...Read More...
Hi Joel, Glad this got you thinking...yes, I listened to the 5 a while back, Circuit City had a comparison display with all three sets. Like you say, at the demo, the music was not the same, so it was hard to tell, but I vaguely remember thinking that you get what you pay for. But Kyles recommendation for either the 3 or 5 was enough for me. I went with lower price/smaller footprint for my use at work. Like you, the IIs didn't impress me so much for the studio , but sound fine on Julie's...Read More...

Live Recording

Has anyone used the new maudio NRV10 mixer/recording interface with the L1 tower? I've been using an maudio1814 firewire and taking the channel 1 & 2 xlr feeds out of the L1 and using two sputnik condenser mic's for the room sound, but I need to 1/4 jacks for the room mics, and they just lose so much sound (I a probably doing something wrong here). At any rate, I love my L1, though I often play with other musicians who "need" more reverb and eq control than my system has, but I don't...Read More...
Hi, John Fitz: I'm not sure I understand how things are connected ... you're taking the XLR Line-Out from the PS/1 into the M-Audio 1814 -- that seems straight-forward. Just for completeness of understanding, what do you have connected to the corresponding inputs (into the Channel 1 & 2 combo inputs)? Where are you connecting the "sputnik condenser mic's"? Are those the "room mics"? Perhaps a bit more detail on the specific make of the mic's would be helpful, too.Read More...

Hi Sombra, Thank you for joining the Message Board. I don't remember reading anything from anyone in Puerto Rico. Maybe you are the first. You mentioned Channel 4 and 5. There is no Channel 5 on an L1® Classic. Do you also have a T1 ToneMatch® Audio Engine ? Anyway - we have some notes about connecting backing tracks like mp3 to the L1®. You can read them here: Backing Tracks Please tell me if that page helps you and answers your questions.Read More...

Riser/Pedestal Custom Design Proposal

drumma777
I have discovered that for our needs in our church sanctuary, that the sounds fills the rear area much better when the L1s are on risers. Right now I only have risers for two out of the four L1 systems, but they are only temporary. After proving that the risers do help I wanted to build some that would not only get the L1s up higher but also hide the wires and provide a more stable place for the T1 to rest. Please refer to my other threads regarding my church and our stage layout. Bose PAS...Read More...
... for me, if there was even a remote possibility they'd be used in a different location/room, I'd make them to have some adjustment (flat, down 1, down 2 ... and, with a bit of thought, at least consider tilt up one "click"...). But then again, I am an engineering typeRead More...

Using the Panaray MB with L1

I'm thinking about getting a Panaray MB4 instead 2 B1's to lower our part count. Any pro's and cons to this, has anyone tried this out?Read More...
Hi Cancer, Thank you for joining the Message Board. The MB4 is part of the comprehensive Bose Panaray product family. The L1® is an integral part of the L1® System. Although the B1s and MB4 are similar, it not recommended that you use the MB4 with the L1® System. We have detailed notes about the reasons here: Panaray® MB4 Modular Bass Loudspeaker One of the great advantages about having two B1s is that you can take just one, when only one is needed. That is, you have a flexible solution. PS...Read More...

Feedback suppression?

rikart
I think I read somewhere in this message board that the PAS has no integrated feedback detection and suppession circuitry. However, after I plug everything in and power up, I usually get a feedback howl when I open up the gain. This initially freaks me out because the level is low, and I'm afraid I won't be able to get a sufficient volume level for the venue. But then, sometimes as we are playing, I find that I can increase the gain until I have sufficient levels, and the feedback problem...Read More...

Hate to be a bother...

First question... can't get the 1.3 firmware to open at all on my pc, something with the settings on the pc I thinks. Next question is a bit more complicated, have a Tascam Digital Portastudio 2488 Neo.. can't grasp how I'm gonna hook this up to the T1 if it's possible. This would make a dynamic recording of a show, if it's possibe!Read More...

Packlite question

The situation: It appears that the amplifier used to drive the B1's in my L1 Classic has bitten the dust. It worked perfectly on Fri. night, but Sat. night after setting up there was no bass. I wiggled, unplugged-replugged, pleaded with and cursed the B1 cables, but no go. I unplugged the tower speakers, brought in my spare Classic base, plugged everything into the spare, and it worked fine. The question: In an emergency situation (no spare base, running out of set-up time, or during the...Read More...
Hello shadowman, If the amp is not working but the Bass Line Out is, then you can probably use Packlite with in place of the third amp. There are some potential issues: The B1 EQ processing may not be presented at the Bass Line Out if there isn't a B1 plugged into the Bass output jack on the Power Stand. Also - you may not have bad amplifier, the issue could be in some other part of the system. You can test the amp though (assuming that this is a Classic) you should be able to take a line...Read More...

No Power on Power Stand update!

IF anyone has been following this let me update. My almost new Model II Powerstand suddenly decided when it would go on ( blue light ) after shutting if off. I tried a new power strip...then took the stand to different wall plug and finally took the power cord to local Musicians store to see if it was the power cord. Power chord was fine. So I shipped it Bose for repair......I get a call from a great rep at Bose (Eric) and he tells me.....it has been running perfect for 3 days in our sound...Read More...

T1 power does not come on

Hi: I just acquired a T1 and an L1 series 2. When turning on the power to the L1, the T1 does not power on. The LCDs turn on for a split second then there is nothing, but the phantom power light is still on. I checked the power cable from the T1 to the L1 and is seems okay. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Thanks.Read More...

Have new toy, will tinker..

Ok, my L1 model 2 landed Friday day, I worked it that night, Sat day, Sat night. I'm ESTATIC!! What a huge difference in my show =) The question I have is this, I have a great mixer/amp ( Behringer Euro2000 ) that I would like to hook up until I get a grip on the touchtone mixer, alot of buttons, not alot of time during shows to make adjustments. Is this possible to do, if so, how do I make this happen? Appreciate the help, and again... Great job on the system!Read More...
Pete is right. Just worry about what you know. You can play with the new toys later. He is also right about the edit button. A classic mistake we have all made and in my case I still make the mistake when I am in a hurry.Read More...

Having an issue with channel 2

I just got my system yesterday. I have a mike plugged into channel 1 and an acoustic guitar and Ipod into channel 4/5. I can't seem to get sound with the guitar if I move it into channel 2. Could I have a bad tonematch or is a known problem I can fix? Thanks for the help.Read More...

Louder To EVERYONE ELSE Than To Me?

Hey everyone --been a while (understatement) since I posted on here --and I appreciate any and all input on a very strange and unique problem I'm experiencing. I'm doing a piano bar gig in a relatively small room (just under 2000 sq ft), using the L1 (w/bass module) right behind my right side. I'm miking both my vocal, as well as the piano. Sounds AWESOME to me, AS WELL AS to everyone at, around, and next to the piano. The problem is, however, that I'm getting MANY complaints from people...Read More...
Hi Amadeus, In thinking about your situation I was reminded of this discussion: Noisy Audience Volume Question It won't take long to read and there are plenty of good thoughts, life experiences and ideas. My take on this, please consider possibility that as your amplified volume goes up, the audience noise level may also be rising. I have experienced this personally many many times. It can quickly get to the point that the noise level is so high that you can not hear yourself well enough to...Read More...

packlite peak light

Hi everyone, My name is Ian and I live in New Zealand. After months of scouring the forums and reading reviews left right and centre on the L1 model two systems I purchased one last week along with the tonematch,4 B1s and a packlite amp to run my ddrum4 electronic kit through. It sounds great but im a little bit puzzled as to why the peak light on the packlite amp goes straight from no signal registering to red when I hit the kick and toms.I have set the gains on the T1 to read green and...Read More...

Recording with Belkin TuneStudio and L1® Classic - Connection Questions

Hey Gang Sorry to be a pest here. Needed to do some recording this weekend and I have a quick "set-up" question. I just received my Belkin TuneStudio (allows you to record directly to your IPOD or your Computer) do to some basic recording for myself for practice reasons. (pic below). I wanted to run it through my Bose L1. Any suggestions? I imagine I would plug my guitar and mic into the Belkin and then run a line from the "monitor out" port to the Bose or might you all have a better...Read More...
I will definitely be getting the T1. It seems everytime I have the money saved, something else seems to come up financially. But I just don't feel complete without it. Especially considering you all have presets specifically for my Guitar and I heard it is ideal for piano use as well. Again ST, thanks so much for all your incredible help and information. Large Hall set up thoughts????

My wife and I are playing a huge fund-raiser here in Vero beach. They expect 300 plus people plus all the folks working the show (additional 100) The hall is a rec. room for a church. The room is very large. Id say 80 x 80 with ceiling height of 40-50 . They will have tables serving food around the perimeter and a couple of side rooms (with roll open walls) The stage is a triangle in one corner about 3' high and maybe 10' out corner to stage center. The center of the room will be filled with...Read More...

I really am sorry man, I forgot to ask one more thing re. my recording post and where to plug into the Bose... Looking at the Belkin pix in my post ...if I go with two plugs out from the "monitor out" port with one left and one right... Do I plug one into Channel 1 and one into Channel 2? or should I use to plugs out from the Belkin with one going into the Bose? ( I have a 2-to-1 adaptor) Thanks again as always! HazenRead More...
