How do I set up my microphone with the T1 ToneMatch® audio engine

ST
Here's a quick video to help you to set the input trim for a microphone on the T1®. This is called Gain Staging. The same principles apply for an instrument or line level input. Set the source to the highest level that you will need during the show, and then set the input trim so that you get solid green, occasional yellow flickers, and never see red. ... more T1® Videos ... more information about the T1 ToneMatch® Audio Engine STRead More...

Set up the T1 for stereo

Hello everyone, This is a guide on how to set up a T1 feeding two separate sources for left and right, e.g. two model II's or model I's. T1 is designed to be a mono device, so the setup for stereo is a little complicated. But, once set up, you can easily control volume of the stereo feed from your stereo device (keyboard, DJ mixer, iPod, etc.). Please note - you will not be able to use reverb in this configuration. Most keyboards already have stereo reverb built in - you can use that reverb...Read More...

Room Acoustics for Performers: Introduction

Ken-at-Bose
Hi Folks, At the recent L1 conference in Little Switzerland I gave a talk on Room Acoustics for Performers. We videotaped the presentation and we'll make that available as soon as it's been edited. I plan to add to the material in that talk here, and eventually I'm hoping we can move the information to the L1 wiki. I encourage you to ask questions and add your own commentary to these threads. The material gets better and better when you do. My goal is to provide information about room...Read More...
For bass traps you need much denser material (e.g. the densest building insulation sheet), ideally suspended a few inches away from the wall, and preferably positioned in corners.Read More...

Behringer X18 Air Rack

I have 2 L1 S towers for my 5pc semi-acoustic group. The 8TS mixer is great, but if I need to ever add anything on top of the 5 vocals, acoustic guitar and keyboard (which seems to happen often), I have to add an additional mixer. I also want to have a sound man mix remotely via tablet, and add the bass guitar and electric guitar into the main mix. I am looking to see if anyone has experience using a Behringer x18 Air Rack in place of the ToneMaster mixer, and if there are any tricks to be...Read More...
We have been using two L1 MII with the Behringer XR18 for about 7 months without any issues. 5pc band, 3 female vocals, 2 male vocals, keys, bass, electric guitar, accoustic guitar, no drums (occasional add-on percussionist), and use an iPod for music during pre-show and breaks, and couldn't be happier with it! System is set to run all inputs at unity level, including the Main L-R sliders. About 50% of our shows, a friend brings his laptop and mixes the group, otherwise I run it with an...Read More...

National Resolectric Guitar through L1 Model II with B1

I am 1/2 of an acoustic duo. We use the Bose system for two vocal lines and 2 instruments line. Our Martin Acoustic guitars w/ built in preamp work great with the system. Plenty of volume and overall great sound. We also use a Uke thru a Radial pz-pre acoustic preamp to give the Uke a boost into the ToneMatch. This too delivers the amplified results we want. The problem is with my National Resolectric Guitar. This National guitar has a P90 pickup and active electronics. (2 - 9v batteries).Read More...

T8 and L1 II, really loud beep occasionally

Daniel Blohm
So, I used my "new" T8 last night (i´ve used it one gig before). But for the first time in my career with Bose L1 (used it for years and hundreds of gig) it occasionally started to "beep" with high volume. The "beep" sound is like, well like a fire alarm thats running out of battery, it starts to beep as a warning signal that its time to change battery. The sound was like that, but very occasionally, it could be a couple of times right after each other, or could go like 20 minutes between...Read More...

Hi Patrizia, You can probably use a cable like this: https://www.amazon.com/Hosa-Ca...f=asc_df_B000068O16/ Connect ONLY the orange ends. Ignore the white ends. Larger end goes to the T1 Master Output. Smaller end goes to the red RCA input. If you really want to connect to both RCA inputs (probably not necessary) add a splitter like this: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonB...1D5H8SGC/ref=sr_1_20 DO NOT USE A CABLE LIKE THIS: https://www.amazon.com/Hosa-TR...00068O1K/ref=sr_1_3? Hi Joel, The L1 Classic is a little louder directly on-axis (directly in front of it), than off to the sides. And yes, with the Compact elevated three feet, you had a lot of sound going up and possibly over the audience. It would not deliver as much sound to the listeners. STRead More...

Should I use one or 2 L1 M2s for speaking engagement? Mixer for 2 or 3 Systems?

Greetings, I have upgraded my video production business to include audio support. I recently purchased one L1 M2 w/B2 and have just found a used 2nd L1 M2 w/two 2B1 subs that appears to be in good shape as a backup. I've been contracted to provide sound support (2 mics: 1 lapel plus 1 handheld for speeches and announcements) for a retreat at a conference center. Hi, jlowe, Your diagramming skills are fine. I just needed a little more information. Here are a couple of ideas. We're trying to reduce the amount of sound getting to the microphones. A. Keep L1 systems inside (more even coverage front to back) Note: The AA speakers are optional. Ideally, you would set them up with digital delay (approximately 70 milliseconds) to synchronize the sound with the L1 systems at the front. B. Use the F1 systems inside (louder up front, not as loud in the back)...Read More...

L1 Compact noise floor / static

Hi I just added an S1 compact to my home. I'm hoping to use it to power my karaoke system and use it as a speaker in the home gym. I'm concerned that when I plug in the system the noise floor / base level static (system powered on, all volume knobs turned to 0, no cables plugged in) is quite high. It essentially sounds like a white noise machine. Powered on with music playing through an aux cable the white noise can be heard through/above the music at volumes below ~52db. settings for a Porchboard Bass with the t4 and b2

Hi, I have a small Porchboard bass I use to tap a beat with my foot while gigging, (its a kick drum sound), and recently I've been hearing some of the sound coming from the tower speakers, and the rest of it from the sub. I'm not sure why this is happening only recently, but perhaps my settings have changed on the t4 inadvertently. How can I send that entire signal to the sub alone? The tower speakers sound like they are struggling with the punch. -JoeyRead More...
Hi Joey, Does your PorchBoard have a three position tone switch? If so, experiment with that. Also - please watch the trim light on the T4S or you can look at the Prefs | Input Levels screen If the trim flickers red or the meter goes all the way to the top when you tap the PorchBoard, turn down the trim. L1 Modle 1S w/B2 Bad Distortion

A distorted, low volume “Hello” from Denver Colorado, I was incorrect in believing the Tone Match mixer would correct the distortion problem. Using the analog input was not the culprit. The distortion actually seems worse now. Is there fix for this mess? Why does T4S sound better than other mixers when connected to L1M2

I am comparing six mixers in a blind test for use with two L1M2 w/B2 The first L1M2 is connected to a B2; The second L1/M2 has a dummy TRS cable in the bass output. Hi Marianu, I don't have any specifications or technical data to share on this topic. However, I can tell you the ToneMatch Mixers were engineered to work with the other Bose Portable PA products. There's an element of art as well as science that goes into Bose products. You can detect that as you listen to all of the Bose Portable PA systems. As different as they are, they still have a characteristic sound. STRead More...

Hi everyone, is there a way to record by plugging a mobile phone or tablet into the T1 please? Or, even a laptop that isn't a Mac?Read More...
Hi Richie, Connecting the T1 to a mobile phone/tablet for recording may be tricky because the T1 outputs are line-level balanced connections. The mobile phone/tablet is probably not capable of handling a connection like that directly. You might need some kind of interface. We'd need to know the make/model/operating system of the phone to investigate that further. Connecting the T1 to a laptop (Mac or PC) is easy. Connect using USB. Connecting the Digitech Live 5 to t8s

I just received my t8s and have a hopefully simple question. I'm a solo acoustic performer. For the last few years I've been running the digitech live5 harmonizer through the t4s. Minimum distance between 2 L1 compacts in a live perfomance

Hi, I play in a duo and we have two L1 compacts, overall they work great. Sometimes we play using both L1 compacts.
