How do I set up my microphone with the T1 ToneMatch® audio engine

ST
Here's a quick video to help you to set the input trim for a microphone on the T1®. This is called Gain Staging. The same principles apply for an instrument or line level input. Set the source to the highest level that you will need during the show, and then set the input trim so that you get solid green, occasional yellow flickers, and never see red. ... more T1® Videos ... more information about the T1 ToneMatch® Audio Engine STRead More...

Set up the T1 for stereo

Hello everyone, This is a guide on how to set up a T1 feeding two separate sources for left and right, e.g. two model II's or model I's. T1 is designed to be a mono device, so the setup for stereo is a little complicated. But, once set up, you can easily control volume of the stereo feed from your stereo device (keyboard, DJ mixer, iPod, etc.). Please note - you will not be able to use reverb in this configuration. Most keyboards already have stereo reverb built in - you can use that reverb...Read More...

Room Acoustics for Performers: Introduction

Ken-at-Bose
Hi Folks, At the recent L1 conference in Little Switzerland I gave a talk on Room Acoustics for Performers. We videotaped the presentation and we'll make that available as soon as it's been edited. I plan to add to the material in that talk here, and eventually I'm hoping we can move the information to the L1 wiki. I encourage you to ask questions and add your own commentary to these threads. The material gets better and better when you do. My goal is to provide information about room...Read More...
For bass traps you need much denser material (e.g. the densest building insulation sheet), ideally suspended a few inches away from the wall, and preferably positioned in corners.Read More...

Should I use one or 2 L1 M2s for speaking engagement? Mixer for 2 or 3 Systems?

Greetings, I have upgraded my video production business to include audio support. I recently purchased one L1 M2 w/B2 and have just found a used 2nd L1 M2 w/two 2B1 subs that appears to be in good shape as a backup. I've been contracted to provide sound support (2 mics: 1 lapel plus 1 handheld for speeches and announcements) for a retreat at a conference center. The room's dimensions are 40 ft x 100 ft with 15 ft ceilings. There will be approx 300 people in the room to include families with...Read More...
Thanks for your quick response! Top center of the 40ft short wall is where the speaking will take place, so the 300+ attendees will be narrow but stacked deep. No stage or risers. Standing and milling about on foot. Some with children would be sitting on the floor. One of the 100 ft walls is mostly floor to ceiling glass and the other is typical wall paper covered drywall. Today's walk thru appears to indicate that the lecturer will be maybe 5 to 10 feet center from that short wall. My...Read More...

Record from T1 to Mobile Phone or PC?

Hi everyone, is there a way to record by plugging a mobile phone or tablet into the T1 please? Or, even a laptop that isn't a Mac?Read More...
Hi Richie, Connecting the T1 to a mobile phone/tablet for recording may be tricky because the T1 outputs are line-level balanced connections. The mobile phone/tablet is probably not capable of handling a connection like that directly. You might need some kind of interface. We'd need to know the make/model/operating system of the phone to investigate that further. Connecting the T1 to a laptop (Mac or PC) is easy. Connect using USB. Connecting the Digitech Live 5 to t8s

I just received my t8s and have a hopefully simple question. I'm a solo acoustic performer. For the last few years I've been running the digitech live5 harmonizer through the t4s. I ran it like this: mic into line 1 in...line 1 out to digitech mic in. guitar into line 2 in...out to digitech guitar in. digitech main out into t4s channel 3 in. this gave me control over my vocal level and guitar level and master level. My question is thus: How would that be hooked up to the t8s? Since each...Read More...

Proper DJ Setup with T1 vs T4 or T8

Minimum distance between 2 L1 compacts in a live perfomance

Hi, I play in a duo and we have two L1 compacts, overall they work great. Sometimes we play using both L1 compacts. When using two systems is there a specific minimum distance the two units need to be at?Read More...
Hi sjrippe, have you tried using each L1 Compact system discretely? You connect to one unit and your duo partner to the other - no interconnects between the two. best portable pa system for my needs

Hi. I was a member of the forum years ago but now I have a question. I am selling my F-1 system with sub and I would like to buy a more portable system as I get older. I play live with kind of a one man band sound. I use the Beat Buddy drum machine and a Porchboard bass unit so the system I need has to have adequate bass response. Stage configuration for single instrumentalist

Hi, I have a Bose L1, play harp, and sing. I use a kna pick up attached to the harp mid-way on the soundboard, and use a Shure wireless digital clip on mic. I am getting some feedback and would like to know the best stage configuration. I haven't been able to increase the volume on the L1, even when I play harp alone without a mic. Hi cpolen350, Here are some suggestions. Put a little more distance between the guitar and the B1 bass module If the Seagull has tone controls, turn down the bass On the R1 Remote, turn down the bass Try different ToneMatch Presets for example If you are using a Taylor Preset that includes the term "Finger", try a different one that says "Strum" (the strum Presets are less bassy) Try a sound hole feedback buster Does that help? iPod (1/8 inch/3.5 mm out) to L1 Model 2 (not compact/not using ToneMatch mixer)

I'm sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find an exact answer. If I have an iPod (or laptop, etc.) with only a 3.5 mm out jack, how do I plug this into my L1? The L1 only takes a single 1/4 inch input. I understand the 1/4 input to the L1 is mono. My output from my iPod or similar would be stereo. Somewhere along the route the stereo signals will need to be merged. My understanding is using a single cable to merge the signal from stereo to mono is not a good solution. It's a bit...Read More...

iPad used with L1 model 1S and Compact

Hi All, This is just for information. I use an iPad Air for my Backing Tracks with the StageTraxx App. Just recently updated iOS to 12.3.1. A week later I used my Compact and was experiencing loud bass booming notes during the playing of my BT's. L1 1S level fading in and out.

Until quite recently I have been feeding my backing tracks from a PC via USB to a T1 mixer. Occasionally for the first few minutes after powering up the audio level output from the L1 would fade out and then back in again. I had assumed it was an issue with Windows mismanaging priorities, however, this is NOT the case. The problem now still exists when the backing tracks are played using the USB-A player on the T4s. I doesn't matter if the feed to the L1 is digital or analogue. The fault...Read More...

L1 Model 2 vs F1 Model 812 with F1 sub

I am very new to this field. Bought L1 model II with B2 as one of my friend recommended this. The source of the sound being amplified....What I mean is they are playing music that wasn't recorded well, or playing an instrument that's not being played right or out of tune. IEM - In Ear Monitoring

Hi all, Thought it might be interesting to hear about other peoples experience, suggestions, recommendations on the subject of IEM's. I guess we're all aware of the benefits of IEM, they can protect your hearing from damage from high level sounds, and they can feed you with exactly the mix you want and or need to hear while performing. It can also fix the problem of the Doppler effect (this is where reflected sound can reach the ears of the vocalist slightly off pitch and cause them to sing...Read More...

Hey! As a follow up from my recent problems with my L1 Model 1 (thanks to ST for pointing in the right direction for a fix) I'm looking at sourcing a second unit to re-enforce my sound and as a backup. Here in the UK s/h values (all I can afford for now) between a L1 Model 1 and F1 is not that great - £800 v £1000 roughly. Behringer Xenyx 802 mixer to L1 Compact

I have a Behringer Xenyx 802 mixer and I want to connect it to my L1 Compact to run external effects for a single mike and my guitar (solo acoustic). I've read in this forum that, after connecting your mike, guitar and effects to the mixer, you simply run a cable with a 1/4" jack from the Left Main Output on the mixer to the 1/4" jack input on Channel 2 on the L1 (with the switch set to the Line Level position and all pan controls on the mixer turned to the left). Can you confirm this the...Read More...
Hi Baja Beat, Thanks for mentioning this. Yes, you can leave the pan controls up the middle and things will work. On most mixers, you will get up to +3 dB more gain from each channel if you pan them hard to one side (e.g., left) and use the left output. Panning up the middle won't work if you have stereo inputs that have dedicated left and right inputs. You will lose the right channel. STRead More...

T4S Stereo mixer into Mono L1

The T4s is labelled as a Stereo Mixer with built in FX. Typically FX such as Delay is mono input and stereo output, this of course gives much greater width to the effect making it sound much more natural by bouncing it left and right across the stereo output.... But what if... What if you have a T4s and ONE L1 II - B2? This obviously can only be mono. So what happens when you connect your T4s digital output 'left' to the L1 II... Took me a while to work out why the mono output from the L1...Read More...
Hi Dave, For larger mixers, we frequently use the shorthand tracks/busses terminology. It's a great way to convey some information concisely. In the world of compact ?/2 mixers (two output busses), the outputs are almost always referred to as Left and Right, and even on larger systems, pan controls are usually labeled Left and Right. When we talk about assigning tracks to busses, then yes, we get back to identifying things by number. Most of the ?/2 mixers I've seen do not explicitly...Read More...

T1 Rotary selector Comp/Gate

Garry
Good afternoon all. A question that is not easy to put logically so I hope you can understand the meaning. If I select Comp/Gate, firstly can you use both the Compressor and the Gate together (This is input for guitar) secondly if I select comp 1 and do not bypass comp 2 and 3 are all 3 compressors working on the signal. Also if I have not bypassed the Limiter / De-esser / Kickgate 1 & 2 are they still acting on the signal? Now if you can only have 1 effect selected at a time then the...Read More...
Garry.... It's what ST said It is not easy to explain logically because the logic is not the kind Earthlings are usually familiar with, its Bose logic! I had similar thoughts as yourself, it looks a bit ambiguous because of the way things are presented on the display and the way the user input controls behave. I've no idea why Bose or any other company's see fit to try and reinvent the wheel, especially when the wheel they invent is somehow worse that a big lump of rock with the corners worn...Read More...
