How do I set up my microphone with the T1 ToneMatch® audio engine

ST
Here's a quick video to help you to set the input trim for a microphone on the T1®. This is called Gain Staging. The same principles apply for an instrument or line level input. Set the source to the highest level that you will need during the show, and then set the input trim so that you get solid green, occasional yellow flickers, and never see red. ... more T1® Videos ... more information about the T1 ToneMatch® Audio Engine STRead More...

Set up the T1 for stereo

Hello everyone, This is a guide on how to set up a T1 feeding two separate sources for left and right, e.g. two model II's or model I's. T1 is designed to be a mono device, so the setup for stereo is a little complicated. But, once set up, you can easily control volume of the stereo feed from your stereo device (keyboard, DJ mixer, iPod, etc.). Please note - you will not be able to use reverb in this configuration. Most keyboards already have stereo reverb built in - you can use that reverb...Read More...

Room Acoustics for Performers: Introduction

Ken-at-Bose
Hi Folks, At the recent L1 conference in Little Switzerland I gave a talk on Room Acoustics for Performers. We videotaped the presentation and we'll make that available as soon as it's been edited. I plan to add to the material in that talk here, and eventually I'm hoping we can move the information to the L1 wiki. I encourage you to ask questions and add your own commentary to these threads. The material gets better and better when you do. My goal is to provide information about room...Read More...
For bass traps you need much denser material (e.g. the densest building insulation sheet), ideally suspended a few inches away from the wall, and preferably positioned in corners.Read More...

L1Model2 as vocal PA for band

Thinking of buying a used system about 5 years old ....no experience with it other than played a few times in a band that had one...if you have 2 full units do they connect together so all vocals come out of both units? Also can a board mixer 16 channel be used to feed into both units? Maybe stupid questions but I cannot find right info that clearly answers that for me. Hope people can help me understand how that might work. This system I am looking at has two towers and 4 B1's but no tone...Read More...

L1 Classic Model I - no bass from B1 bass modules

Hi Ive just purchased an l1 classic model 1 system and connected the 2 b1 subs only to find that theres no bass coming thru. I removed the speaker towers from the base unit and just connected the subs to find that if i increased the volume to a very high setting there was some but little signal coming thru. Could this be a problem with a dry joint in side the unit? or a failure from the amp? Help pleaseRead More...

L1 compact with T4S and LR baggs PARA DI

Hi I have a gig coming up and I have a question on how I should set up. I use an L1 compact with a T4S and I connect a guitar and a piano. I use my L1 as a monitor but I'm in doubt on how I should connect to the house PA. We only have the option on stage to connect to the house PA with XLR. I have an active DI (LR baggs Para DI). Should I use the aux output to my L1 and the master output to the DI? Or should I use the output on the L1 compact to the DI? Can I use phantom power to power my...Read More...
Hi Gertjan, Looking at the Para DI User's Guide (PDF) If you connect the T4S Aux Output or the L1 Compact Line out to the LR Baggs input, the phantom power from the house PA should not be passed back to the Bose gear. Use an unbalanced cable from the Bose equipment to the LR Baggs Para DI. To avoid picking up line noise, keep the cable under 20 feet (6 meters). STRead More...

Matching the Bose L1 MII with B2s + QSC K12.2...

Hi, I have two Bose L1 Model II with two B2 bass subs. I've used these as a main PA for a few years now. I'm very happy with the L1 + B2...very good sounding and ease of transport. [some background - 6 piece classic rock / country band - : two guitars, bass, keyboards, drums, 5 vocals] However, I've found for some larger gigs (outdoors or large halls), the Bose system just doesn't carry the event. So, I'm thinking about adding/replacing it with a QSC PA. However, the question I'm throwing...Read More...

How are you connecting the balanced outputs of your Bose device to unbalanced (mono or stereo) recording devices (e.g., consumer and prosumer audio and video recorders)? R1 Remote not working

I have posted this problem before. My R1 remote module just randomly stops responding in the middle of my gigs and I have to adjust levels at the base if any are necessary after the R1 stops working. The thirty seconds off to reset doesn't fix it. A random amount of time off and it miraculously starts working again for an indeterminate amount of time. I will chime in on this one... I own both and seldom use the B1’s. Two B1’s lack the impact that one B2 will provide with ease. I do like the size and weight of the B1’s, but when using I have quite often found my self reaching for the bass eq knob on my mixer only to find it was already maxed out. The B1’s make a easy to carry back up sub... so that’s how I currently use them. The B2’s has a very robust sound giving me the punch I need for my DJ shows. I suspect that if started playing out...Read More...

T1 SUPPORT (OR LACK OF)

Enjoying my L1 M1S system w/ T1 & B1 since purchased on 8/17. Recently, however, I experienced issues with the T1. 1. When adjusting channel 2 Delay FX, the mixer froze and required shutting off and restarting. I used an open scene to recreate my saved scene and this worked. 2. About 2 weeks later, when unmuting the same channel, the system "popped" loudly and the system went silent from all channels. All lights still worked, but the blue screen looked illegible in the scenes section.Read More...

The problem with aptX Low Latency devices like the one above is that they have a delay of typically 40ms, and at best 32ms [see ST's earlier reply]. This is fine for watching TV or gaming - the target market - but not great for live sound! In fact a 1 frame delay can be a bonus for TV as many sets don't allow for the picture processing delay, so the sound can often be slightly ahead. Yes there are some proprietary Bluetooth links that have delays of < 5ms; but they need the same tech. at...Read More...

T1 - pops, then must be restarted. Screen shows issues

Had this T1 with an L1 Model 2 for 2 years. Did the 1.8 firmware update. Just last week, with no warning, the system "popped" then all sound was out. After restarting the system, it comes back. Hi Sam Spoons, I aways use supercardioid microphones when I run open mic events or festival sound when I'm using L1 systems. In those situations, gain-before-feedback is more important than missing the voice of a singer who has wandered too far away from the microphone. I also use the Noise Gate in the ToneMatch mixers, so no sound is picked up from the microphone unless the singer is singing directly into the microphone. I haven't lost too many singers along the way. I make a point of...Read More...

Behringer X18 Air Rack

I have 2 L1 S towers for my 5pc semi-acoustic group. National Resolectric Guitar through L1 Model II with B1

I am 1/2 of an acoustic duo. We use the Bose system for two vocal lines and 2 instruments line. Our Martin Acoustic guitars w/ built in preamp work great with the system. Plenty of volume and overall great sound. We also use a Uke thru a Radial pz-pre acoustic preamp to give the Uke a boost into the ToneMatch. This too delivers the amplified results we want. T8 and L1 II, really loud beep occasionally

Daniel Blohm
So, I used my "new" T8 last night (i´ve used it one gig before). But for the first time in my career with Bose L1 (used it for years and hundreds of gig) it occasionally started to "beep" with high volume. The "beep" sound is like, well like a fire alarm thats running out of battery, it starts to beep as a warning signal that its time to change battery. The sound was like that, but very occasionally, it could be a couple of times right after each other, or could go like 20 minutes between...Read More...

Hi Joel, The L1 Classic is a little louder directly on-axis (directly in front of it), than off to the sides. And yes, with the Compact elevated three feet, you had a lot of sound going up and possibly over the audience. It would not deliver as much sound to the listeners. STRead More...
