Discussions about the Bose S1 Pro system

Bose S1 Pro

Designed for musicians, DJs and general PA use, the S1 Pro is the ultimate all-in-one PA, floor monitor and practice amplifier that's ready to be your go-anywhere Bluetooth music system for nearly any occasion.

This is the place to discuss the S1 Pro system.

Two S1 Pros vs. L1 Compact (or other system)

I am a professional magician. I, currently, have a Bose S1 Pro for smaller shows and a Carvin Stagemate (S400) with a matching extension speaker. I use a lot of music in my show and I’m picky about my sound. The S1 Pro does an amazing job for its size and is very convenient. After using the S1 Pro for one week, I did a corporate banquet with my Carvin system last week and decided I was no longer satisfied with the sound. The Carvin was a compromise but I settled on it because it runs on...Read More...

S1 Pro outdoors

troubador
So I had an interesting gig yesterday ... I thought I'd share my experience and post a few questions to see what advice folks would have for me. I was asked to play at an event that was outdoors. The invite said that there would not be any power (it was the parking lot of a mall) but battery powered amps were permitted. Of course, I took my S1. Photo of the stage attached. When I got there, I found that the organizers had set up a small stage - with no canopy under the bright morning sun.Read More...
BTW I started a new topic to discuss tablet apps like OnSong.Read More...

S1 Pro Backpack - pictures!

ST
Hi Folks, I got my hands on an S1 Pro Backpack and took some pictures for you. Mug shot - The backpack is about 5 inches taller than the S1 Pro. Top down view. It's nice and compact, not much bigger than the S1 Pro. Top section open - inside flap (right side) closed. Top section open - inside flap open. Top open. You can see the cables now. I forgot to pack the T4S power supply. But I checked later, and it does fit. Total in the Back Pack, S1 Pro AC Power Cord T4S ToneMatch power supply...Read More...
I recently bought mine at GC and it did come with the Li battery but did not include the slip cover which is offered on ebay with purchase and free shipping. Thanks for your reply.Read More...

S1 Pro App feature request: Turn on/off Auto EQ

Archtop Eddy
While normally I find the S1 Auto EQ feature to be acceptable for my gig situations, there are times I wish I could turn it off and be able to configure my unit at whatever angle I wish without affecting my EQ settings. Is there any chance that Bose could include a means to turn on/off the Auto EQ in the Bose Connect or a separate S1 Pro App? Thanks!Read More...

Choosing a sub for the S1

Thinking of possibly buying a sub for my S1. What are the minimum specs/power on a sub that would be well matched to the S1? Are there any specific subs that would be recommended for the S1? I am not in need of a lot of low end but would like to experiment with a sub to see how it affects my overall sound. Thanks in advance.Read More...
The monitor angle has more to do with throw over the heads of the audience. I own one of the older versions and stack a couple of books under it for the same effect. While it's true high frequency tones are more directional, bass can also be diminished firing directly through a crowd. This is especially true with lower wattage bass amps. An active crossover would also help.Read More...

Ground loop?

I have a Bose S1 Pro and Tonematch T4S. I and powering the S1 Pro off it’s own internal battery and the T4S off a portable AC battery. I have connected the T4S to the S1 Pro via its main out Right port. TS4 channels panned hard right. 1: 5 metre Vandamme / Neutrik TS instrument cable. Hum / buzz on S1 Pro at volumes above 2 indent on channel volume knob. 2: Xvive bluetooth transmitter / receiver. This again is a TS connection. Same as cable but with a slightly louder hum. I note the online...Read More...
Hello David, Thank you for joining the Bose Portable PA Community. It's unlikely you have a ground loop when you are running the S1 Pro system on its internal battery. With an unbalanced connection (Tip-Sleeve cable) between the T4S and the S1 Pro system, you may pick up more noise than you will with a balanced connection (Tip-Ring-Sleeve cable). Congratulations! Is the portable AC battery providing a pure sine-wave output? If not, the power source could be introducing noise in signal chain.Read More...

S1 augmented

theonemanband
Hi, I know S1 fans like to hear of the way other users put this great little speaker to use, so I thought you may be interested in my gig on Saturday last; (after thirty odd years, my aim these days is to carry as little gear as possible)!😀 Small to mid-size bar venue, moderately noisy but I did not feel my one S1 Pro would quite “cut the mustard”. The following was to be very much a learning curve as it was the first time I had tried this................. I simply used my S1 Pro cabled up...Read More...
Thanks. I only use the S1 Pro for a gig like that - vocal and Roland digital accordion. The accordion is plenty loud even at 1/2 volume. The vocal can be low but I use an impedance transformer plug to boost that if needed. the singer is low output volume. Personally i don;t want to carry anything more than my instrument and the S1.Read More...

Buzzing from S1 pro connected with the L / L + R output of my Tyros 5 keyboard.

Channel 1 of my S1 pro is connected with the L / L + R output of my Tyros 5 keyboard. When I turn the keyboard on I have a buzz in the Bose which becomes louder as I turn the volume of the Bose up. So when I stop playing you hear an anoying background buzz from the Bose. Before I used an active subwoofer speaker and two satellites from Yamaha and had no background buzz, but the Bose sound is far better.Read More...
OK, I wiil try to use a balanced cable between the L/L+R on the Tyros and the channel 1 or 2 on the Bose pro S1. Cable as shown in this picture and let you know MRead More...

S1 with A1 packlite power amp and 2 B1....

Just wonder if A1 packlite power amp + B1 bass module connected to the S1 Pro would work for that extra bass sound if needed? Would this combination work? Is it worth investing in A1 packlite amp (I do own L1 model II with 2 B1 bass modules already) to increase the bass frequency? any suggestions greatly appreciated...Read More...

SM 58 vs E 935 with Bose S1 Pro

I am happy with my SM 58 through my S1 but was wondering if an E 935 would be better all things being equal. I am not an aggressive singer and I sing at volumes on the low side. I don't have a T1 yet but I will be purchasing one soon to go with my S1. Just curious if there is a consensus regarding these 2 mics with the S1 or if it boils down to individual preference. Thanks.Read More...
It's all a matter of preference. For myself I would choose any Sennheiser mic over a Shure, if talking wireless and I think that I would make the same choice for wired mics as well but my wired mic choice would actually be the EV ND76 . Charging the S1 Pro

Hi After a gig last night and plugged my power cable into the S1 and connected it the mains to rapid charge the battery. I now get a orange light on the main volume control on number 1 channel This is in addition to the blue light that comes on when i first start to charge it but then goes off which I assume means its fully charged. When I unplug the power from the mains it goes off so many mains related Thank you KevinRead More...

Thickness of Padding in S1 Backpack?

Exactly how thick is the padding in the S1 backpack? Is it the same on all sides, the bottom and the top? ThanksRead More...
I’ve posted this several times on different threads. I wanted good protection for my S1 Pro. I found a padded slipcover on eBay (made from a mover’s furniture pad) that I use and put my S1 Pro inside the Arriba Cases AC-125 bag with the padded slipcover on. It gives a lot of padded protection for about $70 and the fit is pretty good. A friend of mine went with the Gator Cases GPA-TOTE 8. It’s a little bit heavier duty than the Arriba case but it requires adding foam in it since it is longer...Read More...

Update the S1 Pro firmware: My mac doesn't see the product

Hi, I am trying to update my S1 Pro from my Mac (macOS High Sierra) On the btu.bose.com website, form the S1 pro page i have the message: "Turn the device power switch on and leave it on until the update is finished." Here is what i did 1) I fully charged my S1 pro, i turned it on, and i have it pugged into the AC. 2) I plugged it to my mac with a micro USB cable. 3) I downloaded/installed to Bose app (from btu.bose.com), and run it (i can see it from my toolbar and the btu.bose.com...Read More...

Using T1 and T4 with S1 Pro

When using reverb with the T1 and T4, am I correct in saying that the type of reverb selected is applied to all channels but the amount of reverb can be adjusted on each output channel?Read More...
Hi Simon, The T1 is a great device. If you had one S1 Pro system, I would heartily recommend getting the T1. Since you've got two S1 Pro systems, this gives you the option to run stereo, or run multi-mono. That means panning each voice or instrument to one side or the other (but nothing panned up the middle). The T1 can't do that and the T4S can. This should sound great; similar to playing without amplification only louder. From your other thread, from me: Time for the T4S, or more simply,...Read More...

Daisy chaining two S1 Pros

Question #1: with two S1 Pro speakers behind me and about 10-15 feet apart at the narrow end (on stage) of a rectangular room 20 feet x 50 feet, would sending vocals to one speaker and guitar to the other speaker be preferable or would it be better to daisy chain the speakers in mono? Question #2: if daisy chaining the speakers in mono, is it safe to assume that tonematch eq, additional eq adjustments and reverb will be sent to the second speaker? I am also purchasing the T1 to allow for...Read More...

Bose S1 vs Mackie FreePlay live

has anyone compared the S1 to the new Mackie FreePlay live which is louder and clearerRead More...
Ted, Don't let the EQ scare you away from the Mackie if you like the other features; I thought the EQ settings were a plus. I could set it for my Martin, and save the EQ as a preset, then set separate EQ's for my Ovation and mandolin. Setting it is as simple as listening while you move a 3 band response curve with your finger, setting reverb or no reverb, saving and naming. On balance, I prefer the S1, but the Mackie had some strong features.Read More...

I have had the S1 Pros for some time now and feel that this is very important to bring up. I have done many tests with the S1 Pros as well as a few gigs and have noticed something that I touched in my S1 Pro Review post, but now I would like to talk directly about my findings. I feel this data is very important since this unit is being advertised as a PA system and also includes Bluetooth. For those of you who are live performers this issue probably will never affect you. The S1 Pro has...Read More...
Hi Andy, Welcome. Thank you for joining the Bose Portable PA Community. The S1 Pro systems come with a two year warranty. If you don't push them into audible distortion (exceed your limits) you should be fine. That sounds like a good plan. Others have run their S1 Pro systems with an F1 Subwoofer and gotten good results. See: S1 Pros as Front of House with F1 Subwoofer STRead More...

S1 Pro Stopped Working

We just received our brand new Bose S1, ordered through Guitar Center, and used it daily for one week. Tonight it will not power on. We unplugged it for 10 minutes. Tried again with no luck. We tried a different outlet, no luck. We even tried an alternative power cord, no luck. It simply will not turn on for no apparent reason. Help! Is there anything else we can try? What is the process to get a replacement?Read More...
