This is the place to discuss the S1 Pro system.

S1 issue? Channel 2 substantially quieter than Channel 1

Hi everybody, I´m Bruno from Germany and just recently I bought a S1. I intend to use it as an universal "make-it-loud-unit" for my kemper, for my acoustic and microphone at house concerts and for streaming music via bluetooth and as a bass amp and... and. I have since 2 or 3 weeks and I´m very happy with it. Today I noticed that there is a significant volume difference between channel 1 and 2. If i put my Acoustic from channel 1 to 2 the signal drops quite strong (perhaps 6 to 9 db?).Read More...
Hi Bruno, Thank you for coming back to tell us you're okay. Enjoy your S1 Pro. STRead More...

The DJ app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store for Android devices. However, I think that the DJ app only supports streaming via Spotify. If you download a music file to your Android device, the DJ app would play it. Vocal Mix with S1 Pro

The other night, I moved in front of my S1 and got a great vocal blend. I was a bout 4 feet from the S1. I was surprised at the lack of feedback. It seemed the blend was best when the back of my head was directly in line with the slightly raised S1. Granted, that is a fine line. I was using a smart phone via bluetooth for the music on channel 3 and a Shure Beta for the mic on channel 1. All reverb settings were good. Treble was fully on and bass was cranked about 30%. Any comments or tweaks...Read More...
Yes I'm sure that one would get better projection with stand use, it's just that I haven't personally used it where I needed the extra projection. Well, there was one gathering where it was used for announcements and we set it on a shelf to get it up higher. I have plans for it to be used in a similar manner in a couple of months and will hang it from the rafters of a picnic shelter and use a wireless mic so there is nothing to trip, or knock, over. Using a T4S with the S1 Pro

Is anybody using a T4S mixer with their S1 Pro or pair of S1 Pros for acoustic guitar/vocal gigs? If so, would you mind sharing your experiences? Good, Bad, Indifferent? I no longer need the horsepower of my L1 M2 with B2, so I sold it. Additionally, I have some health issues that make it difficult for me to lift and carry heavier equipment. All that said, I want to come up with a "modular" PA that I can expand and contract as needed while keeping the number and size of pieces to a minimum.Read More...
Hi Dan, Mounting options. About the same. Bose went in a different (and more secure) direction on this. Please see T4S & T8S Mixers - 1/4 inch (6mm) Mounting Screw (Mounting Options) You can still attach the T4S to the microphone stand but Bose doesn't supply the bracket. Check out the link above. Red light and clipping using S1 pro with T1 mixer.

Hi all... I did a gig tonight using the S1 pro thru the T1 mixer and the sound was really bad. The red light was almost constant and was clipping a lot. I have also noticed that when i use the T1 with other speakers (in this case an RCF Evox 8 V2) and daisy chain out to the S1 pro it sounds great. The S1 actually improves the sound coverage and quality, yet when I use T1 connected directly to the S1 pro, it clips really badly. I have tried reducing the source volume to compensate, but to no...Read More...
@AlzHammers @ST is da man for all things Bose ... he's very helpful and extremely knowledgeable. I didn't know that about the XLRs on the S1 even though I kinda figured that your cable had something to do with the problem. I use a TRS cable from my T1 to the S1 so have never experienced the problem that you had. Glad it was all sorted out! Cheers,Read More...

S1 Pro and low frequencies

I would love to see some sort of Digital Signal Processing added to at least Channel 3 with the Aux and Bluetooth. If the S1 cannot handle low-frequency content at higher volumes, I have absolutely no problem with my music being processed to avoid the port noise and aim towards pure loudness. As a bass lover, I even think the S1 can be too bassy even when I use channels 1 or 2 to turn the bass down! It's annoying when I'm teaching my fitness classes and I have to worry whether or not the...Read More...

Sound Quality Comparison

With my phone using Bluetooth, I get good sound from the unit. When I wire from the phone to channel 3, not so good. My cable is Monster Balanced Out and Unbalanced In. I use an unbalanced 1/4 inch jack into the S1. The same cable gives good sound from Laptop to Channel 2. The phone with this cable is not good into Channel 2, just like into Channel 3. Please help with this.Read More...

S1 Pro, L1 Compact, L1 Model II

I set up three systems: S1 Pro, L1 Compact, L1 Model II As I sang through the three systems, I identified which system I was singing through as one, two, or three. Which do you prefer: one, two, three - and why? Sample file 1 Sample file 2 The two sample files are the same three systems recorded the same way. In the second recording I sang longer passages through each system to give you another way to hear the differences. I'll tell you which system was one, which system was two, and which...Read More...

Cannot daisy chain effectively.

I have had this problem since the very beginning. Have had the same problem before and after updating the firmware. Had both my speakers replaced quickly by Bose (thank you for your fast response) but no matter what the problem persists. I have met with friends who also have 2 Bose S1 Pros and the very same problem exists. It is preventing me from using two speakers and once, in a concert hall, I was forbidden to use the daisy chained pair because of the noise. Here is the problem. A single...Read More...

S1.......built to bounce?

theonemanband
So, I had a bit of a disaster today! I had both S1’s set up at a lunchtime gig (104 guests) in the usual way, both speakers on stands, either side of the stage that was about three feet off the floor; so including the stands, the S1’s were about six to seven feet above floor level (the floor was a hard wooden dance floor). During my break, I was on the stage, and caught the leg of one of the stands sending stand and speaker careering to the hard floor seven feet below. To my absolute relief...Read More...

Feedback from Mic

Hey There, I purchased the S1 Bose Pro System and am loving it. I use a head microphone and am getting really bad feedback from the speaker in certain areas of the room. Can anyone pass on any info as to how to eliminate this? Potentially through the set up? I am green to this so any info would be appreciated. Thanks!Read More...
Hi Jen B, Thanks for the information and link. I couldn't find any details about the microphone in the manual. Let's assume it is omni-directional (picks up sound from all directions). That means you'll need to be careful to avoid letting the microphone see the S1 Pro. If there's line-of-sight between the microphone and the loudspeaker, there's a chance of feedback. There's no harm in doing this although it may not make much difference. Yes, do both and this should allow you to turn down the...Read More...

Performance Volume S1 Pro

Oldghm
Spun off from: S1 Pro, L1 Compact, L1 Model II When I am practicing with the S1, I bring the volume to a level that just fills the room. I don't want to hear it more from the speaker than I do from my head or my guitar, or more from the head or guitar than from the speaker. I try to achieve a level that, to my ears, has no noticeable source. I think, for me, it ^ allows a freedom of expression that I don't get when the volume is turned up high enough that I am more aware of the speaker sound...Read More...
Hi Oldghm, You are describing what I heard when I did the first set of recordings - with the microphones at five-six feet from the loudspeakers. It wasn't until I had things cranked up that I was aware I was compensating for the amplified sound. Yes, I can reach this blissful state of balance. But it's never like that in the places I play. I rehearse at stage volume (sound system is louder than I am) because that's what I hear on the stage. I rehearse my stage sound and everything I do to...Read More...

Hum and feedback when connecting iPad to S1 Pro with 1/8" cable

Over the weekend I brought my S1 Pro to a house party and use it for karaoke. The source was an iPad Pro and when connected by Bluetooth the sound was fantastic. However, there are some karaoke apps that are not Bluetooth compatible. I tried to connect it with a 1/8" cable but the sound became tiny and I got loud hum and feedback when I turned the volume up. I suspect it's the built in mic on the iPad that was causing the problems. I don't think there's a way way to disable the iPad's...Read More...
Hi, I have an ipad pro, and experience the same problem, Franc C is right it has to do with comparability issues with the karaoke app your using. I use Karaoke Anywhere HD app to play my CDG karaoke files and unfortunately this app is not Bluetooth compliant, and using a 1/8'' cable causes static and hum noise because it activates the built in mic! Although I use Sweet Midi player and Grinta pro 9 to play midi karaoke files Bluetooth with no problems! Using the Sound Canvas app core midi...Read More...

Connecting 2 S1 Pro

Hi! I have two S1 Pro speakers and I want to connect them while I sing and play my guitar through it! In the manual it says that I need a 1/4 inch TRS cable for that (not an ordinary guitar TS cable). I have problems finding a fairly long TRS cable at all and they seem to be very expensive! Any suggestion where to find a 2-3 meter long TRS cable at a fair price! Thanks/DanielRead More...
I see a TRS to XLR (male) 25' long cable on Amazon for about $15. That's the kind of thing that I use when interconnecting my 2 Bose S1s directly. Maybe something like that is available where you live.Read More...

Sadly I would like to see a complete overhaul on this model. By Manual I mean USER'S ability to override and tweek . 1-Manual three band EQ on all channels. 2-Manual notch filter for tweaking feedback. 3-Phantom power switch for mics on all channels 4-Deceint fx on all channels 5-Expand FX = reverb, chorus, tremolo, delay, flange, compression 6-Master Volume 7- FX loop 8-DI out Once these things are added then the S1 will become a singer/songwriter, busking amp which can be used as a PA or...Read More...

Anyone try using the S1 as a floor monitor for outdoors performances, such as weddings and crowd events? How many instruments do you find you can monitor through it? We're going to try monitoring our sax quartet/quintet and a jazz trio, and wonder if one is enough or we need two, given the musicians are tightly packed and source volume is low.Read More...
Good to know! I might have placed it horizontally, thinking that would get more horizontal dispersion. But now I'll place the S1 vertically to try it as a group monitor. Since we sit in a semicircle, we ought to be able to get within 120 degrees of each other. Regarding hearing individuals vs the group, we don't really need to hear our individual horn more than we do anyway by being the one playing it -- it's more to hear how we sound in the mix (which we can then adjust with our playing or...Read More...

Using S1 Pro as a stage monitor

I have my first gig this Sat with my L1 Compact and T1. Phantom Power adapter for the S1 Pro (not battery powered mixer)

ST
I use a Neumann KMS 105 with my ToneMatch mixer (to L1 Model II or L1 Compact). This microphone requires phantom power so I can't use it with the S1 Pro. Although I get great results with various dynamic microphones I'd still like to use the KMS with the S1 Pro. Has anyone tried the Mackie M48? Do...Read More...
Good point! I'll let you know how it goes using the S1 as a floor monitor. Sound pressure from an acoustic sax ensemble is probably quite a bit lower than 4-5 electric guitars, so that's in our favor. It's closer to a string quartet than a rock band for sure.
