S1 Pro System

Discussions about the new Bose S1 Pro

Bose S1 Pro

Designed for musicians, DJs and general PA use, the S1 Pro is the ultimate all-in-one PA, floor monitor and practice amplifier that's ready to be your go-anywhere Bluetooth music system for nearly any occasion.

This is the place to discuss the S1 Pro system.

Heat

As a general question, is it normal for your S1 Pro to heat up while in use? I don't mean warm. There is burning heat coming off and I just bought the System a few days ago and have only connected my guitar. The heat comes from the controllers not the battery. Ive have bought speakers before and this usually happens after a year of use or more (speakers have amplifiers).Read More...
Hi Victor, Thank you for joining the Bose Portable PA Community. The units may get a little warm. That doesn't sound right. Do you mean it's uncomfortable to hold your fingers on it for a few seconds? If the unit gets uncomfortably hot, please call Bose Support. Dead!

I was using my S1 Pro last night as a monitor and controller for my L1 mark 1 with 2 x B1s. All was going well when suddenly the S1 Pro 'died', refusing to work on either mains power or battery power. Fortunately the event was a fundraiser so while I was re-arranging things they held the raffle. I ran the rest of the gig with just the L1 and B1s. I'm going to call customer support (UK) this morning to see what they suggest. The unit is only a few weeks old and I need it again on Tuesday...Read More...

Bose S1 Pro positions and setup performing singer songwriter

Hi Folks I've just received My S1 and must say I'm absolutely delighted, as an L1 M2 owner the S1 is a lot more convenient for intimate gigs, So folks i was just wondering how other similar users how they position and use their S1 ? I realise this is a subjective subject and depends on venue etc, but it would be interesting share I will post my setup over the next few Weeks love the forum kind regards JRead More...
I agree that the S1 is definitely worth the money. One other detail that I didn't mention is that I placed the S1 much more centrally on the stage (and about 8 inches from the front lip of the stage) and I was off to the side from it. I think this made a difference by keeping the speaker away from the walls. Incredible how far the sound travels with such a small single speaker. The patrons that were 60 feet down around the corner playing pool said they could hear me really well!Read More...

Onboard Tonematch EQ’s

theonemanband
Hi, I have searched the forum and the Bose website, but cannot seem to find this information; please can anyone help? I am looking for a graph/diagram or other info that would show a visible comparison between the frequency responses of the three onboard, switchable “Tonematch” eq’s (flat/guitar/mic) on the S1 Pro. Is such a thing available, as I am sure this would be of help to other users too,...........any help or links greatly appreciated! Cheers......BrianRead More...
Absolutely.....I agree, I would always let my ears be the final judge but, I would have simply liked the option to make a mental note of the frequency curves of each, just as a shortcut to a starting point, so to speak. As I said, not essential, but useful. Thank you for input ST., always appreciated!Read More...

Gain Staging for T1 to two S1s

Last night I used two S1s for my acoustic duo (one guitar, two vocals). I ran the guitar and vocals into my T1 mixer which was connected to input 1 on an S1 with a TRS 1/4" cable. I then ran another TRS 1/4" cable from the output of the first S1 to the second S1. I set the input volumes of each S1 at noon to control the volume from the mixer. I was surprised that the volume of the first S1 was very quiet while the second in the chain was loud. I swapped the positions of the two S1s to...Read More...
Yeah, don’t want separate mixes. Honestly I’d never send the output of the S1 to FOH. In my experience, they want a nice mic level signal and one that will change if I need to adjust the volume of the monitor during a gig. The S1s worked well, but I really missed having a subwoofer.Read More...

Packlite with b2

Hey, I know the faq says that a sub is not recommended with the S1 but I need more low. I've seen other posts with using a f1 sub but that thing is to large and heavy. I was looking at the b2 with a packlite amp. Is it possible to use this with the S1 and has someone tried it? If yes how would you connect it up and do you need other things than the packlite and b2 since it comes with the cables and everything included. I mainly want to use it with Bluetooth stereo mode. If I connect a...Read More...

Sub Bass Recommendations

theonemanband
Hi, following on from my recent posts regarding using 2 x S1 Pro’s for my main PA., together with a Samson Auro D1200 active sub bass, I am concerned that the sub bass (having no no built in crossover, only “Thru” outputs), is sending full on and potentially damaging sub bass frequencies to the S1’s! Can anyone recommend a good, small (12”), active sub, 2 x inputs, 2 x outputs with a built in (preferrably adjustable) crossover. This seems a good bet and good value for money too...........Read More...
SORTED!!👍 Bought a fantastic small active sub-bass, a “Proel” SW110a. (V1). This little sub ticks all the boxes, small and light (18kg), 250watt, switchable high pass filter (125 / 160 Hz) and 122dBspl. Came across this by accident in the forgotten “dusty corner” of my local musuc store, not new but in absolutely mint condition and aquired it at a bargain price. Used it together with my two S1Pro’s at my two latest (fair sized) gigs, crossed over at 125Hz. The whole system sounds truly...Read More...

3 Bose S1 speakers and a T4S

Hello, I fell in love with the S1 so much that I bought three of them. I play acoustic gigs in small bars and coffee houses and this is perfect for it. My issue is that I like to have people sit in when I play, whether another guitar, vocal, mandolin, etc. Im looking to buy either a T1S, T4S, or T8S. I'd like to use one S1 for the L and R mains and one as a monitor. Before I invest can anyone point me in the right direction. Is it even possible to link all three together and have a nice pa...Read More...
Hi again Matt, Once you have the first S1 Pro working, you can add the other two connected to Left Output and the Aux Output. Use the settings you had on the first S1 Pro for the others. When you are turning things on, start with the ToneMatch Mixer (with Master Volume Off). Then turn on the S1 Pro systems. When everything is powered on, you can bring up the ToneMatch mixer Master Volume. When shutting down, turn off the S1 Pro systems first. Then you can turn off the ToneMatch mixer. STRead More...

2nd. S1 Pro.....couple of questions.

theonemanband
So, after 6 months of using my S1 Pro for small intimate style gigs and street/outdoor performances, I have just purchased a second and plan use both as a full PA., linked together with my one active sub-bass (Samson Auro DS1200 for the heavy duty signals). I currently drive the sub and the the tops (2 x Yamaha DXR10's in series) separately and independently with the left and right channels of my mixer, using the channel pan controls (after setting each channel EQ), to adjust the overall mix...Read More...

Linking a pair of S1 Pro's

Hi gang Continuing the S1 thread, I used mine at a small gig last night, around 30 senior citizens at a retirement complex, they were an attentive audience all seated so I mounted the S1 on a stand and basically threw the sound across their heads. No issues at all. The sound was crystal clear and I knew I was hitting the back of the room (about 30-feet) because volunteers at the bar were leaning into each other to chat! My iPad was around three quarters as it usually is (this gives me the...Read More...
Hi Ric, Bose does not mark its Portable PA equipment with an indicator of unity gain. Unity Gain as a concept is straightforward, but in practice, it is not well defined without further qualification. "This note discusses the pitfalls (often subtle) of our industry's failure to define and standardize what "unity gain" means, and the conditions necessary to measure it. " Source: https://www.rane.com/note124.html On the S1 Pro system The center detent is a convenient point of reference,...Read More...

Brilliant

Hi Gang My new S1 Pro was delivered yesterday and I used it for the first time today. I did a care home just outside Canterbury and although it isn't a huge room it is a fair size with around 40 residents joining in. I thought I'd use the S1 at it's most basic ie; on the floor pointed upwards as in busking and although I was quite pleased with the sound for future use I intend to pop it on a stand. I spent the last year and a half with the L1 Compact right near me and when it is fully...Read More...
Hi Mate I looked inside the pole mount and saw the pin you describe, then I tried the S1 in various positions, I could hear the built in EQ engaging. For me I didn't notice any distortion from the pole elevation but then my backing tracks are not very "busy" and as I specialize in old 50's/60's stuff I'm not going to be cranking the S1 enough to create any issues. Interestingly and probably just a personal opinion but for me I actually preferred the EQ combination with the S1 tilted at floor...Read More...

Using an S1 Pro with L1 Mark 1

I recently purchased an L1 mark 1 (used) and was so impressed with it that I also bought an S1 Pro. The S1 Pro is amazing but not up to the challenge of some of the venues I play. I have been considering a Tonematch and possibly upgrading to a L1 mark 2. In the meantime would it make sense to use my S1 Pro as a mixer/feeder for the L1, using the reverb and tonematch of the S1 Pro. If so, what would be the cable to use and how would I best set it up? I use backing tracks from a laptop, a...Read More...

Can I plug mic and guitar into 1 S1 and have it come out another S1 without a cable?

@DavidE2, you can use a stereo mixer like the battery powered $99 buck Behringer 1002B mixer to feed 2 to feed up to six battery powered Bose S1 Pro's for great battery powered coverage. S1 Pro system or Bose L1 advise for Sound and gong baths

Hello all, i am totally new to equipment required to be able to play sound bath and gong baths using equipment but I do need to purchase some sort of sound system and I am DESPERATE for advises. Basically, when I play Himalayan bowls my audience cannot hear them as the room does not seem to carry sounds very well. Worse, they can hear very rarely loud motorbikes or truck. What do you advise me to purchase. I will buy an instrument microphone of course (any advise on that would be fabulous)...Read More...

S1 Pro performance review v Roland BA-330

Having bought an L1 (Mark1) with 2 x B2 about a fortnight ago I was really impressed and so were the audience at my first gig with it. However, the venue was switched at the last minute to a much smaller room and the L1 was a bit too big (physically). Having read reports on the S1 Pro I travelled to my nearest stockists to see if the glowing reports were justified. I took my Roland BA - 330 to do an A/B test with the S1 Pro. I was astounded at the performance and it scored over the Roland in...Read More...

How to connect two s1 speakers together

how do I a) mirror the sound from one across (mono) for input instruments/voice and/or b) create a stereo soundstage for the Bluetooth channel for music from a laptop, iPad , iPhone ? Manybthanks as always.Read More...
Hi MGT, Welcome to the Bose Portable PA Community. I'm glad you're here. You need a mixer of to do what you've described. Otherwise, you can't get the mono sound to both S1 Pro systems without making the Bluetooth stereo => mono on the second S1 Pro. To get stereo over Bluetooth, you'll need to run the Bose Connect app on the iPad or iPhone. Note: If you are using a laptop - you won't be able to use the Bose Connect app for Bluetooth stereo. The Bose Connect app only runs on IOS and...Read More...

Red light

What does it mean if my s1 pro is plugged in but I get a red light when the toggle on button is in the up position?Read More...
Hi Oldghm, Good to see you. Short answer: I don't know, but I doubt it. Longer answer: It would be impossible to tell unless you left it plugged in for 30 days and didn't use it, and then unplugged it. Then, if you turned it on (unplugged) and the unit didn't respond, you would know the battery had gone into sleep mode. If you have it plugged in all the time, when you turn it on it fires the 'wake-up' trigger. No, there's no external indication. You'll know when you have it unplugged, turn...Read More...

Tempted

Hi Gang As a Bose convert with a lovely set of L1 Compacts, an L1 Model 2 + B2, and a T1 and T4s I am thinking of adding the S1 to my collection. Reason is because between my pro gigs I also do a few intimate places such as a small local restaurant which never gets more than around 30 in, I also have a regular slot at a local cocktail lounge which houses around 25 on an average evening and between all that I do the occasional care home and at present I use one of my L1 Compacts without T1,...Read More...

S1 Pro battery draining when not in use

Beach Friendly or not?

Hi guys I was thinking about getting the JBL Boombox mainly for beach use but the S1 Pro quality really changed my mind. Only question is, how beach friendly do you think it is and how good is it at withstanding the humidity, wear and tear compared to let's say the Boombox? Thanks!Read More...

Thanks ST. I think the ability for 2 or more S1 Pros to link up without the app would be great. Another option would be to make the bluetooth app available on the Tone Match mixers so they can sync with the S1 Pros. While we're at it, let's go all the way and add a battery pack for the tone match. Now we're talking amazing portable PA. Let Bose know that I won't even charge them for this idea. LOLRead More...
