S1 Pro System

Discussions about the Bose S1 Pro system

Bose S1 Pro

Designed for musicians, DJs and general PA use, the S1 Pro is the ultimate all-in-one PA, floor monitor and practice amplifier that's ready to be your go-anywhere Bluetooth music system for nearly any occasion.

This is the place to discuss the S1 Pro system.

Recent experience with S1 pro

My wife surprised me with a new S1 Pro for our anniversary after seeing how well our L1 M2 performs. My application for this was intended as a practice amp and portable PA for my Roland RD 700, portable PA for my singer-songwriter son, and Bluetooth background music. After trying this unit, I am disappointed in its performance. The piano sounds (which are great on my JBL monitors and L1) sounded compressed and lifeless. In addition, keyboard splits were distorted with rattling bass. The unit...Read More...
Yes, I'm beginning to wonder about that myself. I was especially surprised by the bass distortion when I used a split board with acoustic bass and rock piano. I heard buzzing and rattling which quieted when I turned down the bass voice level. However, the acoustic Roland 'Supernatural" piano voices did sound thin and compressed which is not what I am used to on my L1 M2. On a better note, Bose customer service was exemplary in getting the unit shipped back!Read More...

BOSE S1 Pro battery included but not known

Went into a large music store in a capital city a couple of days ago in Australia. They had a S1 pro in stock but staff didn't know that battery is now included. Staff contacted rep at Bose Australia who didn't know about it either. Well I'm going to hold off on purchase until the industry catches up with the news. I wonder if Bose has put out notifications to all of their international dealers?Read More...
AH! Bose did open pandoras box and filled it with great suspense and sprinkled on top of it a child's anticipation for the 12 days of Christmas, who gets what and when. Actually this seemingly simple and straight forward gift has to be planned and enacted systematically and I suspect this is in the making currently. Another words laying out the ground work and fixing and appending the situations that don't fit in the box. In the mean time, we keep holding our breaths awaiting with great...Read More...

S1 pro and digital pianos, help requested

I picked up the S1 because I loved the idea of a lightweight, portable PA for gigging and practice. However, I’m having trouble getting a usable sound from my Yamaha p-115 piano. I tried it with my Yamaha CP4 and had similar problems. First, I connected the keyboard to the S1 with a brand new Mogami 1/4” cable using the Left(mono) port — no hiss or noise at all. The speaker was upright, elevated and not in a corner, about 6 feet away. Next, I tried various EQ and volume settings on the S1...Read More...

Si Pro out directly into Analog input of a L1 model 1S with B1 Bass

I'm a retired full time one-man band musician now doing small gigs with karaoke arrangements. I NOW use the Bose S1 Pro as my Bluetooth and mike input branching out to a 200 watts sub crossovered to an 260 watts Alto 10" or 2. Impressed by the easy setup, I almost bought the Bose L1 Model 1S with the B1 Bass module due to the easy and rapid installation but since there is no EQ and it's REALLY expensive, I'm not sure. I'm trying to reduce setup time drastically and want to eliminate...Read More...

Set Up S1 Pro with Subwoofer

I have a Sony Powered 50w Sub and want to connect to the S1 Pro using the TRS out from the Pro to the sub. Problem: the Sub IN has only an RCA input and the OUT from the S1 requires a TRS 1/4". So how do I connect the two - assuming the RCA in is an unbalanced input?Read More...

Hiss

I know I have posted about this before and I thought i was OK with the background hiss. But now it seems to vary with volume. Here is a audio/video of the second channel with a fender speaker cable plugged in and the other end plugged in to a digital accordion DI and turned on. The hiss diminishes with turning off the instrument. Should it be making this noise? Would using a balance cable be worth trying?Read More...
Hi Ted, please keep us posted. I'm very interested as to what's causing this. It could well be helpful for others in the future. TonyRead More...

how do you keep the Bluetooth always off ? Normally when I switch the Bose S1 on to Bluetooth comes on automaticallyRead More...
Hi Hugh, You can't turn off Bluetooth on the S1 Pro, but it will shut off automatically if it can't make a connection. Short Description: Bluetooth will turn off after about two minutes after you turn the power on unless the S1 Pro successfully connects to a Bluetooth device. Longer Description: When you turn on the power on the S1 Pro, it will attempt to connect to a paired device via Bluetooth. If there are no paired device, it will go into pairing mode. If the S1 Pro cannot connect to a...Read More...

S1 Pro not loud enough with guitar amp modeler

Hello! New user here, impressed with the S1, but a little confused with the volume/output behavior of the unit. I own an Atomic AmpliFire, which is a guitar amp modeler (like the Helix, etc.). It is a high quality unit and my guitar sounds are amazing coming out of the S1, which is why I bought one. So, my issue is the following: at band rehearsal I plugged my modeler to the S1 channel 1, turned the volume up on the modeler to what I usually do with most mixers (about 30, 40% volume) and...Read More...
Hi Charles, Thank you for joining the Bose Portable PA Community. It's nice to hear from someone else who is using a modeler. There are a few of us here. I have a Kemper Profiling Amp . What are you using? It sounds like you're doing everything right. Lower output level on the modeler with higher volume control on the S1 Pro. OR Higher output level on the modeler with lower volume control on the S1 Pro. You might be able to turn up the volume control. When you see red flickers you're...Read More...

S1 Pros with F1 Stack (2) - April Live Gig Report

ModernVintageDC
Hello Bose Community, If any of you have seen my other posts regarding the use of the S1 Pros for gigging, I noted that I would follow up after completing a few live outdoor shows in April. Report details: I had a number of indoor gigs in Jan-March experimenting with using the S1s as FOH/Monitors both with and without the F1 Sub. After achieving excellent results, I was eagerly awaiting the test to use S1s as monitors for larger events and use the F1 Stacks as Front of the House (FOH)...Read More...
Thanks for the feedback ST, your questions and recommendations from the initial posts I had inspired me to prepare and provide a report that could anticipate some questions and potentially help others... Hiss

I’m getting a hiss fro the s1pro. It doesn’t matter if the system has anything plugged in or not. Battery or main power balanced or uunbalanced. Volume control makes no difference to sound. No change with tone match. It’s quite audible - should this be happening??Read More...

S1 Pro switch quesiton...

Archtop Eddy
Anyone know if it's it okay to leave the S1Pro in the "first" or battery-charge position rather than in the "second/middle" off position when not in use? I ask this because by putting it in the first position you take less of a risk that it might accidentally switch on while in transport mode when moving about in the car. This could potentially save you from unintentionally draining down the battery.Read More...
thank you for your informations! it happend to me allready twice, that the power-switch went ON while in transport mode :-( good to know, that moving the switch down to fast charge position doesn't drain out the battery! btw: i am quite suprised, that BOSE did set the switches this way.Read More...

S1 Pro battery powered busking report

Archtop Eddy
Just thought I'd let ya'll know, I've just played two battery powered gigs, each 3.5 hours long. In both cases I used a battery powered S1 Pro, a phantom powered Neumann KMS 105 through a Boss VE-8 acoustic singer pedal, and a Boss Super Octave 3 pedal to simulate bass. Both pedals were powered via a Sanyo eneloop Juice rechargeable 9 volt pedal. At the end of the gig, the S1Pro was still blinking three blue flashes (50-75 percent charge) and the Juice pedal was still showing better than 60...Read More...

Phantom Power sources for S1 Pro

Number 1 through 5: Phantom Power on at least ONE channel. I was amazed that this was left out. It can't be that much more expensive to put it onto at least one channel's input circuit. I had to spend a bunch of money on a battery powered phantom power to maintain portability and be able to use my rather expensive Neumann microphone. Number 6: A master volume control. Of course, thanks to number 1 through 5 I have to use an external mixer into channel 1 anyway... Great stuff: Balanced TRS...Read More...

Flexibility! Flexibility! Flexibility!

jdbassentertainment.com
I have owned the S1 Pros for a very short time (just over two months) and I am truly amazed by their extremely flexible nature! I keep finding new ways to use them... Here are a couple of recent gig pics! The first one shows the S1 Pro being used for a PA for a wedding ceremony with 75 guests... worked great! The other pictures show how I used a S1 Pro to provide sound in the bar during the cocktail hour at the same time also playing music in the dinning area for those who didn't want to...Read More...

S1 Pro Busking Power Questions

Musicianthomas
My good news is that I have an S1 Pro & Battery on the way today!! The better news is that it is a gift! So I will definitely be taking it out, reviewing, and putting it through more than several situations outside, inside, small venue gigs, etc. My question has to do with busking power sources. I want to be able to use my Infinity Looper, TC Helicon Mic Looper, TC Helicon Chorus pedal, VoiceLive 3 Extreme, and The T1 Tonematch just as I do in my shows with the L1 Model 2 /B2 Module and...Read More...
No, I also purchased the S1Pro Battery and do not use it plugged into the Chafon power source. It stands alone. Plenty of juice in the S1Pro for just about any length gig you could imagine. What you need to do is figure how many watts total your effects will be pulling....that will give you the rating you need. If you will scroll to the beginning of this thread, you can see how ST and Tony really helped me with this. To me, it's worth the $$$ investment of both the Chafon and the additional...Read More...

AUX-volume!

Hi! My (second) brand new S1 Pro is having some kind of problem with the aux-volume knob. When I turn up and down the volume there´s interruptions in the sound. It´s not smooth..... watch my video to hear https://youtu.be/BP_O0fie2o0 Anyone else experiencing this?Read More...
Hi Papamotif, We have studied your video and investigated things here too. From Bose: The S1 Pro has a digital gain knob on channel 3 which is divided into incremental steps. When you slowly turn the volume knob up with a strong input signal present, you may hear steps in loudness. These steps in loudness are not a symptom of a fault or malfunction in the S1 Pro. The steps in loudness you hear in your video should not affect your ability use the unit to play music through channel 3. Thank...Read More...

Basic S1 Set Up

I’ve been looking for a portable battery powered PA for small intimate gigs. I’ve been looking specifically at the Roland Street Cube EX. Now that we have the Bose S1 Pro thrown into the mix. I have a few questions. I’ve read many reviews on the S1. Seems a lot of folks are going through other amps, mixers and pedals before going to the S1. The use of these external devices add color to your final output, the speaker (S1 in this case). Also, most of these external devices need external...Read More...

I am upgrading my random 20 year old PA and am considering a number of options.

Hi, I am upgrading my random 20 year old PA and am considering a number of options. I play harp (passive pickup), acoustic guitar and keys and sing. The combo I have going at any one time is one instrument plus voice. I'd also like the option of up to 3 mic channels and 2 instruments at one. I'm also keen for battery options. I'm not sold on the s1 being my only gear, and have been considering an l1 compact and an s1 + battery. Can I run these together through a mixer? I'm looking at the...Read More...
Interesting, high pitched hiss, where are your eq's set, the high end in particular? Along with what ST recommends with the steps I would place all the high eq, and the bass eq around 12 o'clock. Are you using the tone control? What is the switch set for? normal, guitar, mic? As ST has asked can you hear this hiss with instrument and mic? Or do you hear the hiss after you turn it on with nothing plugged in? Is it in both channels? Do you hear the hiss in all three positions of the tone match...Read More...

Live Review of S1 Pro at a Large Outdoor Festival

Musicianthomas
As promised I'm reviewing my first putting the S1 Pro to a real challenge at the Knoxville Earthfest 2018 Earth Day Celebration and Festival this last weekend. It passed with more than flying colors! First, there was no power source at the entertainment tent at ALL. Everyone performing was acoustic with no amplification....until my segment. A very fast and easy setup with just the battery power of the S1 and a Sine Wave Battery Generator for my pedals. Not being amplified, the entertainers...Read More...
ccc , I made some posts about this Battery Power for my pedals, etc in the post you can read here: ►► s1-pro-busking-power-questions? You can read other info I posted and where to get it there too. I'm very pleased and it has a smaller than small footprint too. That discussion will also answer your question of time. Before stopping my trial run experiment I ran both the S1 Pro and the Chafon Battery Generator for 8 hours and 15 minutes before stopping the experiment. I began a guitar loop...Read More...

Why do YOU love your S1 Pro?

Archtop Eddy
Me... Everytime I pick up the S1 with one hand and marvel at how little it weighs, I fall in love again! How about you? Why do you love your S1 Pro?Read More...
Used the S1 Pro at a small bar gig in Pueblo this weekend. Wasn't sure if it would be enough so brought the Compact as well. As it turned out, I didn't need or use the Compact. The S1 Pro keeps surprising me and putting a smile on my face. This is the fourth gig location I've been able to swap out a bigger rig and start bringing just the S1 Pro. Less stuff to lug in, less weight to carry, less time to set up, less clutter on the stage. What's not to love? Also, Tom Munch and his wife,...Read More...
