Bose S1 Pro

2nd. S1 Pro.....couple of questions.

theonemanband
So, after 6 months of using my S1 Pro for small intimate style gigs and street/outdoor performances, I have just purchased a second and plan use both as a full PA., linked together with my one active sub-bass (Samson Auro DS1200 for the heavy duty signals). I currently drive the sub and the the tops (2 x Yamaha DXR10's in series) separately and independently with the left and right channels of my mixer, using the channel pan controls (after setting each channel EQ), to adjust the overall mix...Read More...

Linking a pair of S1 Pro's

Hi gang Continuing the S1 thread, I used mine at a small gig last night, around 30 senior citizens at a retirement complex, they were an attentive audience all seated so I mounted the S1 on a stand and basically threw the sound across their heads. No issues at all. The sound was crystal clear and I knew I was hitting the back of the room (about 30-feet) because volunteers at the bar were leaning into each other to chat! My iPad was around three quarters as it usually is (this gives me the...Read More...
Hi Ric, Bose does not mark its Portable PA equipment with an indicator of unity gain. Unity Gain as a concept is straightforward, but in practice, it is not well defined without further qualification. "This note discusses the pitfalls (often subtle) of our industry's failure to define and standardize what "unity gain" means, and the conditions necessary to measure it. " Source: https://www.rane.com/note124.html On the S1 Pro system The center detent is a convenient point of reference,...Read More...

Brilliant

Hi Gang My new S1 Pro was delivered yesterday and I used it for the first time today. I did a care home just outside Canterbury and although it isn't a huge room it is a fair size with around 40 residents joining in. I thought I'd use the S1 at it's most basic ie; on the floor pointed upwards as in busking and although I was quite pleased with the sound for future use I intend to pop it on a stand. I spent the last year and a half with the L1 Compact right near me and when it is fully...Read More...
Hi Mate I looked inside the pole mount and saw the pin you describe, then I tried the S1 in various positions, I could hear the built in EQ engaging. For me I didn't notice any distortion from the pole elevation but then my backing tracks are not very "busy" and as I specialize in old 50's/60's stuff I'm not going to be cranking the S1 enough to create any issues. Interestingly and probably just a personal opinion but for me I actually preferred the EQ combination with the S1 tilted at floor...Read More...

Using an S1 Pro with L1 Mark 1

I recently purchased an L1 mark 1 (used) and was so impressed with it that I also bought an S1 Pro. The S1 Pro is amazing but not up to the challenge of some of the venues I play. I have been considering a Tonematch and possibly upgrading to a L1 mark 2. In the meantime would it make sense to use my S1 Pro as a mixer/feeder for the L1, using the reverb and tonematch of the S1 Pro. If so, what would be the cable to use and how would I best set it up? I use backing tracks from a laptop, a...Read More...
Very helpful information ST. I shall set it up today with a standard cable. Many thanksRead More...

Can I plug mic and guitar into 1 S1 and have it come out another S1 without a cable?

I know you can do stereo with the bluetooth, but if I plug a mic and guitar into an S1, can I use the app to have the sound come out of a pair of S1s? Trying to avoid the XLR cable between the two S1s. ThanksRead More...
@DavidE2, you can use a stereo mixer like the battery powered $99 buck Behringer 1002B mixer to feed 2 to feed up to six battery powered Bose S1 Pro's for great battery powered coverage. This is a wired, not wireless solution to your dilemma .Here's photos of my band's stage, totally battery powered through a single Bose S1 Pro.:Read More...

S1 Pro system or Bose L1 advise for Sound and gong baths

Hello all, i am totally new to equipment required to be able to play sound bath and gong baths using equipment but I do need to purchase some sort of sound system and I am DESPERATE for advises. Basically, when I play Himalayan bowls my audience cannot hear them as the room does not seem to carry sounds very well. Worse, they can hear very rarely loud motorbikes or truck. What do you advise me to purchase. I will buy an instrument microphone of course (any advise on that would be fabulous)...Read More...

S1 Pro performance review v Roland BA-330

Having bought an L1 (Mark1) with 2 x B2 about a fortnight ago I was really impressed and so were the audience at my first gig with it. However, the venue was switched at the last minute to a much smaller room and the L1 was a bit too big (physically). Having read reports on the S1 Pro I travelled to my nearest stockists to see if the glowing reports were justified. I took my Roland BA - 330 to do an A/B test with the S1 Pro. I was astounded at the performance and it scored over the Roland in...Read More...

How to connect two s1 speakers together

how do I a) mirror the sound from one across (mono) for input instruments/voice and/or b) create a stereo soundstage for the Bluetooth channel for music from a laptop, iPad , iPhone ? Manybthanks as always.Read More...
Hi MGT, Welcome to the Bose Portable PA Community. I'm glad you're here. You need a mixer of to do what you've described. Otherwise, you can't get the mono sound to both S1 Pro systems without making the Bluetooth stereo => mono on the second S1 Pro. To get stereo over Bluetooth, you'll need to run the Bose Connect app on the iPad or iPhone. Note: If you are using a laptop - you won't be able to use the Bose Connect app for Bluetooth stereo. The Bose Connect app only runs on IOS and...Read More...

Red light

What does it mean if my s1 pro is plugged in but I get a red light when the toggle on button is in the up position?Read More...
Hi Oldghm, Good to see you. Short answer: I don't know, but I doubt it. Longer answer: It would be impossible to tell unless you left it plugged in for 30 days and didn't use it, and then unplugged it. Then, if you turned it on (unplugged) and the unit didn't respond, you would know the battery had gone into sleep mode. If you have it plugged in all the time, when you turn it on it fires the 'wake-up' trigger. No, there's no external indication. You'll know when you have it unplugged, turn...Read More...

Tempted

Hi Gang As a Bose convert with a lovely set of L1 Compacts, an L1 Model 2 + B2, and a T1 and T4s I am thinking of adding the S1 to my collection. Reason is because between my pro gigs I also do a few intimate places such as a small local restaurant which never gets more than around 30 in, I also have a regular slot at a local cocktail lounge which houses around 25 on an average evening and between all that I do the occasional care home and at present I use one of my L1 Compacts without T1,...Read More...

Beach Friendly or not?

Hi guys I was thinking about getting the JBL Boombox mainly for beach use but the S1 Pro quality really changed my mind. Only question is, how beach friendly do you think it is and how good is it at withstanding the humidity, wear and tear compared to let's say the Boombox? Thanks!Read More...

Stereo Bluetooth

I know you can run party mode in the app, but if you connect two S1s, does it play in stereo or is just a dual mono setup?Read More...
Thanks ST. I think the ability for 2 or more S1 Pros to link up without the app would be great. Another option would be to make the bluetooth app available on the Tone Match mixers so they can sync with the S1 Pros. While we're at it, let's go all the way and add a battery pack for the tone match. Now we're talking amazing portable PA. Let Bose know that I won't even charge them for this idea. LOLRead More...

S-1 Pro Logo

cc407
I had noticed another topic from somebody who snapped off the Bose logo and had the back part rattling inside the cabinet. This blown-apart view suggests that maybe the grill can be removed - the tabs on the grill edge suggest that to me. Any experiences?Read More...
Hi cc407, That's a great question. Thanks for asking. The image is an artist's rendering to give people an idea of what's inside the S1 Pro system. The grille is not replaceable in the sense that you can remove it and put it back on. The act of removing it will break the tabs. You have to replace the grill with a new one. Bose doesn't sell the grille or Bose logo separately. If you need a new grille or logo, please contact Bose Support to find out about service options. Thanks, ST Bose®...Read More...

Bluetooth transmitter solution - for T1 to S1 Pro

Looking to purchase an S1 Pro. I already have an L1 Model 2 that has really been a game changer for me the last few years. What I'm looking for advice on is a way to extend the coverage of my L1 on occasions wirelessly to the S1 Pro. I can obviously do this with a cable, but seeing as the S1 Pro has bluetooth - can anyone recommend a simple solution that I can connect the master from my T1 tonematch to transmit the same signal to the S1 Pro - say at the other end of room for coverage? I've...Read More...
Just ran across this on another Bose thread, this is similar to what I mentioned the guy at my cousin's wedding was using: https://www.altoproaudio.com/p...cts/stealth-wireless Same price as the Galaxy, but this has two receivers vice one and you can set them to left and right, or set the transmitter to mono so each gets the full mix. Unfortunately (fortunately?) only AC power on the receivers, but you'd need power for the S1 anyway. Alto's pretty popular in the educational and corporate...Read More...

S1 Pro cannot drive a drum machin!

Hi, Just got my new two sets of S1 Pro. They are sound fantastice when I drive them via the bluetooth in a stereo mode, but when I connect them to one of my drum machines (that also has a a Bass guita sounds), the 61/2" driver gets into saturation in relative low volume. I play a guitar (mostly electronics) with two synth guitar , drum machines, vocals and bass guitar in a relative small room - 12ft x x15ft. It seems that the S1 PRO was not designed for my application. I concider replacing...Read More...
Moshik, we talking about the same issue. The problem is in the low frequencies. I just wouldn't get so far that the S1 isn't able to be a full range speaker within reasonable limits. You can get quite loud with canned music (including kickdrums and bass). That kind of music is highly compressed/limited. A drum computer ofen not so. Also I'd say that you can set your lowcut to 60-70Hz instead of 100Hz and still get rid of a big load while it can sound ok for busking. And if your drumcomputers...Read More...

Connecting two Bose S1 Pro's via bluetooth on laptop

Hi all, I'm trying to figure out how to connect both of my S1 Pro's via Bluetooth to my laptop. I can get it to play with one or the other but there is no option to play through both. I figure that I need to somehow download the Bose Connect App to make that happen but I am not finding a download for Windows 10, just for mobile devices. Am I missing something in my searches? S1 "farting out" and issue running T1 to S1 with 1/4" unbalanced cable

I had an outdoor gig tonight and hoped to use my S1 for two vocals and acoustic guitar. Unfortunately, I didn't have a stereo trs 1/4" cable and I brought the wrong adapter (xlr female to trs 1/4"), so I had to run an unbalanced guitar cable from the T1 to the S1. Tomorrow I will have a balanced cable to run between the two. Running the T1 like I do with my L1M2 really overloaded the input of the S1 channel set to off. It was near impossible to get a clean sound with decent volume out of the...Read More...
Thanks again ST. That should really be clarified in the wiki. The way it's written I couldn't tell that xlr in is mic and trs in is line level. It says the XLR is for mic or line level. "Combo Inputs S1 Pro Channels 1 and 2 have combo inputs that accept XLR (balanced mono) Microphone or Line-Level inputs 1/4 inch (6 mm) Tip-Ring-Sleeve connection (balanced mono) Line-Level inputs 1/4 inch (6 mm) Tip-Sleeve connection (unbalanced mono) Line-Level inputs and instruments (e.g. guitars,...Read More...

S1 update problems

Hi again ST. Good news - all fixed. I had another try using Internet Explorer - the upgrade to Ver 7.0 proceeded to completion, Bose Connect now operational. A suggestion for clarification re the link mentioned above: S1 Pro Amber Light on Channel 1 My initial expectation was that after Step 7 the unit would reset to its status before the upgrade attempt and would be operational with blue lights. That wasn't the case - no blue, and the amber light was still on Ch1, but the firmware upgrade...Read More...

S1Pro with Battery Powered Wireless Mic

Kevin Salyer
A couple of quick pics from a recent gig. Audience of 50 in a small auditorium (dig that grooooovy curtain!). Single S1Pro on battery power with battery powered Shure wireless rig (that’s the receiver I’m holding, which is powered by two AAs). Plenty of power and great sound in a dead acoustic space. Rave responses from the audience. No cords + quick setup and takedown + great sound + ecstatic audience = very happy entertainer!Read More...

Mobil DJ and Karaoke

I would like to hear from Mobil DJs and KJs that have used 1 or 2 S1’s at small to medium sized parties do you have any videos you can post the only video I saw was from a 55 plus party playing country and 50’s and 60’s music thank youRead More...
I’ve done a beach party and 2 pool parties, both had no power available so battery was a must. 2 in Stereo is WAY better than 1 (or even 2 in dual mono), but does force you to use Bluetooth to do it. S1 Pro - the switch inside the pole cup

ST
The S1 Pro uses an accelerometer to determine if it is in the tilt-back, horizontal or vertical position. It also has a switch inside the pole cup to determine if it is mounted on a speaker stand. Based on the orientation and the switch, the S1 Pro automatically applies the correct EQ. Here's a picture of the switch inside the pole cup. Close up. It's not that shiny in there. It's just the way the light hit and bounced around. STRead More...

Mobile charging of the Bose S1 Pro traveling between gigs...

I "top off" my Bose S1 Pro and 9 volt Lithium Ion Batteries between gigs in my car with the power switch in the center off position and my 9V NiMH battery chargers with a 200 watt continuous (400 watt peak) modified sine wave DC to AC power inverter I purchased at Harbor Freight (these inverters are available at many other retailers) plugged into my car's 12 volt accessory jack. This affords me the opportunity to perform three 3+ hour gigs with my Bose S1 Pro and Behringer Xenix 1002B...Read More...
On another note, I've never attempted to use this inverter to charge my Carvin StageMate S400D, a workhorse for over 15 years. With the second lead acid battery and matching 810 extension cabinet (the unit was 60 watts RMS 8 ohms and 100 watts RMS with the 8 ohms extension cabinet in parallel which doubled the current draw at 4 ohms), it would gets 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours on a full charge and take a full day plugged in to fully recharge. Multiple deep discharges of these batteries render them...Read More...
