S1 Pro system: Feature Requests

OK Bose you really need a master volume, let me set my guitar, and mic and then use the master for increasing that volume without fumbling around again with both mic and guitar volumes. You could also use a boost for low signal items like dynamic mics, and maybe add phantom power. While you are at it an effect send and return, three band eq, gain, notched cancelling eq for feedback issues and reverb. I own two Trace Elliot cubes they are old, about 15-20 years can't find a date on them work...Read More...

Basic S1 Set Up

I’ve been looking for a portable battery powered PA for small intimate gigs. I’ve been looking specifically at the Roland Street Cube EX. Now that we have the Bose S1 Pro thrown into the mix. I have a few questions. I’ve read many reviews on the S1. Seems a lot of folks are going through other amps, mixers and pedals before going to the S1. The use of these external devices add color to your final output, the speaker (S1 in this case). Also, most of these external devices need external...Read More...
I like the VE-8 because it gives me both a Harmonizer and Looper (as well as effects like Chorus or Echo) in one battery-powered pedal. It has a bunch of knobs rather than screens -- and I'm old school, I like that too. For a battery powered harmonizer option, you could also try the Boss VE-2 Vocal Harmonist. I have one of those but don't use it much. It sounds as good (maybe better) thank the VE-8 and has a larger on/off switch which I like. However, I don't like to take a lot of pedals to...Read More...

Big weekend for the S1 Pro!

jdbassentertainment.com
I used the S1 Pro systems last weekend and got amazing results! First for a Sport and Recreation Show (2 day event) the first day I used three S1 Pros (see first picture) I had two up way high and one lower... I was responsible for making all announcements and playing background music... to be heard through out the whole space... I was told the three S1 Pros where too loud! So... on day two I did the decided ti give a single S1 a whirl... it worked!!! That's right, one S1 Pro about 9' in the...Read More...
Always nice to see these reports and how everything is faring with the S1 Pro. Saturday the 28th will be my first BIG test with it outdoors. I will be playing the Knoxville Earthfest Celebration and Festival for Earth Day....and attendance is between 5-6000 throughout the day. All entertainment has NO power source available. Everything is acoustic and as far as I know I am the only one who will have any amplified sound. There will be video for sure for my own evaluations and I will certainly...Read More...

Battery Check

Just received the S1 Pro and battery, but I don't seem to be able to get a reading on the remaining battery power. It has charged for about an hour (not fully charged yet). I unplugged and ran my mic through it and everything seems to be working fine. But, when I press the bluetooth button twice as indicated to check the battery nothing happens. When I turn it on I am getting 3 blinks; not sure if this indicates charge level but using the bluetooth button to check power does not seem to be...Read More...
Thanks ST. I did read through all the material prior to set up. I just figured out what I had missed. Bluetooth must be on to check the battery level using the bluetooth button. Common sense I guess, but I do not remember reading that in the manual. Thanks again. KevinRead More...

Two S1 Pros vs. Bose F1 + Sub System

TheFocusElf
I currently have the Bose F1 (single) and a single F1 Sub. Clearly a mono setup. The space is about 750sq feet - of which the F1 occupies about 1.5-2% of that space. I find it to be a bit of overkill for my space, and, it is setup in a mono format. In either case, the F1 is receiving a Line In from a 16 channel mixer, and the S1's if I bought them and replaced the F1 would too benefit from a separate mixer. Things I like: 1) Built in Bass (unlike the L1 Compact that I returned before buying...Read More...
You can daisy chain the S1 Pro with another S1 Pro in monorail. I use a Behringer Xenix 1002B battery powered mixer with my S1 Pro. This gives 9 channels to work with and not require an AC outlet. The mixer takes 3 9V batteries and runs about half as long as the S1, so I carry extra rechargeable NiMH 9V batteries for more time at events.Read More...

I appreciate all St but just to add a few more questions for this : Where does the weight lie, shoulders, hips, is the weight adjustable, can you place weight on the hips to take the pressure off the shoulders? S1 Pro while waiting for the Bose Backpack

ST
I noticed a funny coincidence. The dimensions of the S1 Pro are almost the same as the original Apple MacIntosh. S1 Pro system 13.0" H x 9.5" W x 11.2" D Wt 14.5 lbs $2,495 ($6,071-2018) MacIntosh 13.6" H x 9.6" W x 10.9" D Wt 16.5 pounds $599 It was a happy similarity for me. I have a great padded bag with carrying handle and shoulder strap. It'll do fine until the Bose S1 Pro Backpack is available. STRead More...

Affordable rechargable wireless headset mic

I'm a 43 year DJ vet. I own the following Bose products: L1 Compacts - 4, L1 1S - 2, L1 MII - 3, B2 Subs - 3, B1 subs - 2, T1 Tone Match Audio Engines - 4 and just a month ago a S1 Pro. I perform, on average, 15 shows per week using mostly my Compacts and S1 Pro. The S1 Pro is used as I entertain Seniors 2-3 times per day and it lasts me pretty much all week on a single charge. I wanted to make my set up and tear down as expeditious as possible and started researching wireless mics that need...Read More...

Battery Life

theonemanband
Hi, I have been using my S1 Pro for a while now, mainly running it on mains when available, but occasionally on battery power for small/outdoor gigs. I am aware of the battery condition warning (3 flashes=75%+.......2 flashes=50%+ etc)., but I was wondering if anyone knows how this eqates to actual playing time. I realise this depends on the power it is drawing; I am using both main chanels (NO Aux) set at 60%+/- (about 1 o’clock) and both set to “Mic” EQ. I am using a Shure SM57A (Beta) and...Read More...

Ode to S1 3rd Channel HARMONY

Archtop Eddy
Strange name for a song, huh? I was just goofin' this morning with the S1 trying to think outside the box, and thought maybe I could use Channel 3 for a mic if I ran it through a pedal with the necessary EQ/effects. Then I thought, I always wanted to give two mics a try -- one mono and a second with harmonizer "on". This way I wouldn't have to keep turning the harmonizer on and off during a live solo show. All I'd have to do is shift between the two mics. So I took a dynamic Sennheiser e935...Read More...

Hi Teagan, Here's a link to the TC Helicon Play Acoustic manual . On page 58 it talks about setting the Guitar Level parameter and the Out Level parameter. You should be able to adjust these so you get the level you want. As far as microphones go, since you are running the microphone through the TC Helicon unit, anything that sounds good through the TC Helicon unit should be fine. Does that help? STRead More...

Bose s1 pro output

I just bought this PA last month and i love the sound that is coming from it. I am planning to use it on bigger venue (GYM) and i want to have the sound the same but louder.so i'm planning to connect it to loud speakers. Just want to know the best thing to connect. 1. Bose s1 pro -microphone-mixer-loud speaker 2. Bose s1 pro-output-mixer-loud speaker I want to use number 2 but i don't know if it will match the mixerRead More...
Hi Teagan, It sounds like you'll want to: Connect all the inputs to the mixing console. From the mixing console, send a monitor mix to the S1 Pro. The main mix will go to the powered loudspeaker. You won't need a DI box for the connection from the mixing console to the S1 Pro. Connect the mixing console monitor mix to the S1 Pro, channel 1 or 2. On the S1 Pro, set: Volume: 12:00 o'clock Bass: 12:00 o'clock Treble: 12:00 o'clock Reverb: Off Use an XLR cable or 1/4 inch Tip-Ring-Sleeve cable...Read More...

Perfect Sound Solution for Retirement Community Gigs

Kevin Salyer
I've been entertaining full-time in retirement and care communities for six years, performing over 500 concerts/year. My audiences are older adults in venues ranging from living room type spaces (5-20 people) to small auditoriums (50-100 people). I've been waiting for a portable PA that would meet every one of my needs: - sound great, with a warm sound perfectly suited to my audience, many who have hearing loss, and some who have hearing sensitivity issues - small and lightweight (I gig 5/6...Read More...

First experiences: Gigging with the S1

Archtop Eddy
Hi. I've now had the opportunity to use my S1 at a few gigs and I'd like to share my thoughts. (No bad news here...) First time I used the S1, I tried out the battery-powered unit for busking. I was totally battery-powered that day with the S1, a battery-powered Boss Acoustic Singer VE-8 stomp box (for harmony, looping and basic guitar effects), a Sennheiser e935 vocal mic, and Waterloo WL-14 acoustic guitar with K&K pickups. I was absolutely pleased with the S1 sound, volume and battery...Read More...

Hi, quick questions (I hope). Does it matter whether I use balanced or unbalanced cables to connect the S1 to an L1 MII, an L1 Compact or other powered speakers (like QSCs or EVs)? I understand the balanced cables will reduce noise issues -- especially with longer cables -- but is it necessary? Any other advantages/disadvantages? Thanks!Read More...

S1 Pro - Microphone volume between 0 and 12:00 o'clock

I Interesting, Here are the responses from Bose and from the store tech service department. Describing this to my tech person from Sweetwater, he felt this is inherent to the design of this unit. Talking with the Bose people three separate times, three different tech people, ALL the Bose people said the same thing: the volume should go up and down starting at zero to unity and up. BOSE SAID RETURN THE UNIT THREE SEPARATE TIMES, IT SHOULD ACT IN ACTION (NOT EQUAL TO) THE INSTRUMENT VOLUME...Read More...

Hi Everyone, I'm starting a new discussion to provide the Bose reply to this question Answer: The output level of the guitar is louder than the output level of the microphone. That's why we have to turn up the microphone higher. This is how my S1 Pro looks most of the time. The microphone is connected to channel 1 and the guitar is connected to channel 2. More information: There’s been a lot of discussion here lately about Unity gain The center détente is unity Not enough reaction to the...Read More...
Hi ccc, The quote above is taken out of context, and in a different discussion. Here is my comment in its larger context. For others reading along, note that at this point, I was talking about S1 Pro channel 3. The larger discussion is here: S1 Pro - Microphone volume between 0 and 12:00 o'clock . And in that discussion, I explain why we have to turn a microphone higher than a line level input. The ToneMatch switch tunes the EQ on the channel to give great results with handheld microphones.Read More...

New Idea! Stompin' Bass in Channel 3

Archtop Eddy
Out of curiosity, I tried connecting a passive footstomp bass-drum pedal to channel 3 of the S1. I knew the channel didn't have any EQ controls but I figured, what the heck. So I found a cable I have with 1/4 to 1/8, connected it up and -- ta da! It worked! It sounded fine. Not great, but usable for live gigs. I even connected a battery-powered MXR six band EQ between the pedal and the S1, but it actually sounded better without it. So I was stoked. Being able to find a way to use channel 3...Read More...

Thanks CCC for the reply, but I was responding to dwmweb's use of a cajon bag to carrying around his S1 and his gear. Since you responded however -- quite the rockin' setup you have there my man! S1 developed a bad pot

I am less likely to return for exchange for another. I expect only the best of quality from Bose, you pay for it. The S1 relies on the smiley face EQ- ing, pulling down the mids to eliminate feedback issues when in the tone match mode, sometimes to the point of unnatural nasally vocals. The tilt for throw I get, highs carry and mids and lows drop off over distance. I hope Bose is not forgetting audio quality to achieve a loud throw from a small box. I am watching these issues carefully, as...Read More...

L1 Compact owner, just added an S1 Pro-Stereo connection help

I'm a mobile DJ, and have owned the L1C for several years, and love it. With the advent of the S1 Pro, I thought it would be nice to use it connected to my mixer, with the L1 connected as either left or right, and the S1 on a stand connected as the opposite channel. 1) The mixer has RCA outputs, what would be the best way to wire this? 2) If stereo playback is really not the best use of my resources, what would be the best way to wire up the two PA systems to the mixer for best results?Read More...
