Settings for loop pedal backing tracks

hi I am in an acoustic duo we use a boss loop pedal for our backing for certain songs which we have recorded and produced ourselves . I would like some advice or suggestions regarding getting the best sound . For some reason the preset I feel gives the best sound is accordion ????? Not sure why this is also do I really need to use compression ? Any help would be appreciated regards LucreciaRead More...
Hi mark thank you again for your reply to this question and valuable advice . We played last night and I left the compression on the backing making sure that I used it sparingly ( which is something I have been reading ) it worked really well . I have left compression off my vocals as you suggested which is brilliant but left it on my bodhran guitar and as I say backing seems to work a treat . To me honest the whole compression thing I get but not really sure how it works on producing terms...Read More...

Winamp

First off I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this so if it is not I would like to apologize in advance. I have seen a lot of folks use Winamp to play backing tracks from a PC through the L1. I downloaded it a while back and ended up getting a pretty nasty virus, I assume from the site I downloaded it from. It took me about two days to get rid of the virus from my laptop. It caused my screen to go black and I could only log on in safe mode, no fun at all. Anyways I am a little...Read More...

Model 1S or Model II with B2

We need to run 3 vocals plus a bass and drum backing track thru a system in a small club setting playing classic rock. Keyboards and guitar have there own amps but might feed a signal of them as well for balance. Which system would fit the need? Will an external mixer work?Read More...
After a test drive today we took the probably fine out of the equation and ordered the Model II. Will hold off on the T1 for now. Thanks.Read More...

Ambient/Jazz Electronic Music

Hi - Picked up the L1MII w/B2 and T1 a couple weeks ago to use in performance with my ambient/jazz performances. Really enjoy the clarity of the full spectrum of sounds produced by my rig. I play Eigenharp Alpha and Akai EWI4000s, either direct or through loops I build on-the-fly in Ableton Live. I use a number of soft-synths that produce everything from simple emulations to very complex and layered sounds. The L1MII handles everything beautifully. What I've found useful is to remove the FX...Read More...
I normally wouldn't change the FX of the original patches much. As they are designed by folks who know much more about sound design and synths than I, I usually trust their settings. With the L1, I do find that I add back in less reverb and delay than what may have been in the original. Again, a lot of the original's FX is geared to producing depth or some stereo effect that I don't need with the L1 setup. Now, if I'm mixing for recording, I'll probably leave the original FX in place. For...Read More...

MIDI Accordion System with Bose L1, Tower II System

I presently use two Bass units. Would adding the newer B2 units be worthwhile for audiences less than 500 for a large casino room? I play a wide variety of styles for dinner music. I play the Roland FR-7x with and without MP3 tracks. With the MIDI accordion, I use an Orla XM-900 real time orchestra module. Any thoughts? Ron U.Read More...
Hi Ron U., If you were trying to motivate a dance floor then I think that the B2 could serve you well. For dinner music - I think you'll have to hear it to know for sure. You can use the B2 in place of two B1s, and if you have been happy with your two B1s I really doubt that you will feel the need to get two B2s. (You would need a PackLite amp to power the second one). As you already know, the B2 is about the same size as two B1s. If you have had your B1s since 2005, then you will probably...Read More...

Lever Harps

I have a large leve harp and am planning to use my L1 for small ensembles for weddings and receptions. I have the L1 Model 2 home to demo with the ToneMatch system. As there are no presets for the primary instruments I use, such as the harp (with factory installed mic) or instruments like cellos or hammered dulcimers, I'm at a loss as to how to go about dialing these instruments in on the ToneMatch. ToneMatch seems very wonderful if you have, say, a Taylor guitar, (with obvious presets) but...Read More...
In one of the previously referenced discussions I saw this: "We rolled off much of the lows and some of the highs ...." which makes me think that it is indeed a common problem to have "too much bass". How does one do that with a T1? First, select the appropriate ToneMatch Preset. For a full-size harp, that would be either the plain Keyboard preset or the "Flat" in the Utility group. Then, switch to the zEQ and use the Low (left) knob to reduce the bass to get it "in balance". Regarding the...Read More...

Celtic Harp

...So we are booked for this festival in July. We are playing outdoors using our L1 model 1/B1(x2). We ordering the second B1 next week! I play in an acoustic duo. Vocals and guitars basicly. We use a mixer going into the Bose. We play 2 hours, and then, we agreed, set up the next performer... a celtic harpest , using our Bose. I believe there is just harp music with no other instruments. Of course a mic for vocal for the performer. Question... how to mic a harp ? I have a Shure BG4.1...Read More...

Hi Carlton, Thank you for joining the Forum. Don't do it as much as I used to, but anytime that I have used my VG8 or VG88 into the T1® / L1® I have just run flat with no Preset - at least for for the VG part. I generally land on Category: Utility Preset: Flat For the analog guitar signal, I would use the Preset that matched the Guitar. This may sound a little bright when...Read More...

Preset suggestions for Blues Harp

The Harmonica player in my band was wondering about the different presets for the Bose and what would be the best (better) Blues harp sound for the following situations 1) plug right into the Bose (Ch 1 or 2), No amp, using a bullet microphone...to get the "raunchier James Cotton/Paul Butterfield like" tone 2) plug right into the Bose (Ch 1 or 2), NO amp, using a SM58 or SM57 for a cleaner tone. any suggestions out there??Read More...
I use a green bullet newly purchased and use it plugged diredtly into the channel 2. I use the alto sax preset and then add a slight bit of modulation. I get a good tone while getting a dirty sound as well. I am still playing with ways to change things up, might try a tube pre-amp.Read More...

external speaker into L1 Model I

I have an old Baldwin Professional Amp that I would like to send into the L1 Model I via the external speaker output on the back of the amp. Can someone enlighten me on the best way to do this? My first guess would be to run a speaker cable from the amp into Amp 1. So far this seems very noisy so I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. I will probably end up unhooking the actual speaker on the amp and just use the output from the L1. Is there another input that would be more suitable? I...Read More...
try looking at something like a Palmer PDI-03 or PGA-04, they can take in a power amp output and soak up all the power and then give a line out which you could take to the T1.. I use a PDI-03 from the speaker out of my Amp head into the T1- works a treat. If you don't want rack mount, I think the THD hotplate also has a line out on it. good luck.Read More...

Using L1's with mixer and wireless lavalier mics

I am using the L1's for a different use than most and looking for some guidance. We do seminars in hotel ballrooms, approx 400 people. We set the L1's up behind the stage at the sides of the stage, about 50 feet apart. We use two wireless lavalier mics, one handheld mic for audience Q's and an ipod for music between breaks. The sound is good, but when it cranks up we get feedback. Also, when we try to use a mixer, it distorts and sounds terrible. We've tried every variation of the presets...Read More...
An additional thought, Ebo: With any mic, I strive real hard to get it put through a Bose Preset. With the Model I, that means I separate the "music/instrument" inputs from the mic inputs (via panning or use of AUX outputs) and take two lines out to the Model I ... the signal with the mics into Channel 1 with a mic preset, and the other signal into Channel 3 (flat). With the Model II, I use a T1 (ToneMatch mixer), which has an even wider variety of Presets (ToneMatch EQ), zEQ, and other...Read More...

Leslie effects for harps?Bose L1's for harps

Right now I use a Holmes Harp Commander going thru the T1 (I've the Model 1 w/2 subwoofers), and that gives a nice tubelike sound. For my organ effect, I used to use an old analog stomp box called a BRIANIZER, but it hisses too loud and, in a pedalboard, it's a hassle because it's 18 volts. I now use a ROTOSIM Leslie simulator, but I ain't satisfied, because even w/ a B1, it sounds way too tinny. HELLLP!! Also, as an aside, when I use my octave splitter (on or off), eq, and rotosim (w/the...Read More...
You know, PH, there was a thing called the Voce "Spin" that is out of print but probably is available on Ebay or somewhere. It was meant as a Leslie-sim compliment to the Voce organ module. Can the PAS and Harmonica be friends?

Electro-Acoustic Harp Question

Hi, I play electroacoustic harp. Here is the one I play: The Blue I am no stranger to amplification but I have a question. The instrument has a series of piezo arrays arranged in 4 channels. As shipped they are all passive. I am considering changing the bass channel to magnetic pickups (probably P bass). Can the T1 manage these signals without additional preamplification? A good friend tours with a Panaray system, and about 500 pounds of additional equipment. Basically we would LOVE to lose...Read More...
When you get one, try some of the guitar Presets on that soundboard channel ... guitars have to deal with that piezo quack, and there may be a preset that makes that soundboard channel useful to lightly supplement the main 3 channels of pickup as they are. LOT's of things to play with, between having 4 instrument outputs, Bose Presets, zEQ, Parametric EQ, etc...!! 1/4" connections, of course, are not a problem for the T1 on any channel, either.Read More...

Mic-ing bagpipes (Border Pipes)

Hi I've experimented with a few options for mic-ing my Border Pipes (bellows-blown bagpipes, similar but quieter sound to Highland Bagpipes). I used an SM57 for a long time but after some feedback issues I just switched to an Audix OM-5 mic. This seems excellent for feedback immunity and I really like the sound I get from the pipes, through a T1 (using the OM5 preset) and an L1. Much better than the SM57 in my opinion. I find that pointing the mic towards the chanter, roughly midway between...Read More...
