I, too, have just discovered the joys of BOSE! I do care homes, clubs, hotels and pubs in the UK. I have an L1 Mk1 with 2 x B1s and an S1 Pro, The S1 Pro is my 'go to' system for most gigs and the L1 where more 'oomph' is required. I've been looking at the L1 Mk2 and the L1s to save weight and am seriously considering a T1 Tonematch to get the best out of the kit. I never thought I could afford to go 'Bose' but, in fact , selling my old kit just about covered the cost. I should have done it...Read More...

Hi Shaime, You can use a self-powered (active) loudspeaker for a monitor. Consider using Bose S1 Pro or an L1 Compact. Connect the T8S Aux 1 output to monitor using a 1/4 inch (6.3 mm) Tip-Ring-Sleeve cable. You can learn more in this article ToneMatch Aux STRead More...

L1 II with B2 and B1

From what I've researched I can run two B1 bass modules without an additional power amp or two B2 bass modules with an additional power amp. What about a B1 and a B2? Anybody doing this? Additional power amp needed for B1 and B2? Haven't found any info on this setup. My alternative setup is to try and run the B1 off my second tower unit, a Compact. Thanks for your help!Read More...

L1 stereo set up

I have 2 L1 Compact systems that I use with [ usually] one Nord keyboard.... I'm wondering what the best way to achieve a stereo effect would be ? I've tried these 2 set-ups: Set-up #1. Left out of the kybd ...into first Bose. Right out of kybd to second Bose. Output from first Bose into second Bose. Out put from second Bose to main PA. Set up #2 : Left ouput from kybd into first Bose. Output from first Bose into second Bose.....output from there to mains. I've been using stereo cables for...Read More...
Hi Jeff......yes you’re correct....the first set up is the stereo one I wanted. I just wondered if there were any other ways of connecting the 2 L1’s and sending their outputs to the main PA. Someone else had said that regular TS cables would work just as well..or better. By stereo cables I meant TRS. I’d never tried running kybds in stereo before so... experimenting a bit! Thx for your comments.Read More...

Problems with acoustic guitar sound

My friend and I both have L1 Model II systems with B2 bass modules. We are both using the T1 mixer. Using my system I set up my acoustic guitar sound going from my LR Baggs Para Acoustic DI into my T1 using the Acoustic Guitar flat EQ preset. It sounded great and I was very happy however today I plugged into my friend’s system for a gig and the guitar sounded thin, lifeless and it had lost all the bottom end. No amount of fiddling with the Baggs DI seemed to help. Before using the Baggs DI I...Read More...
Hi steview22, Two more thoughts Were you going into the same channel on your friend's T1 as you do on yours? Were you using the same kind of connection (XLR or 1/4" (6.3 mm) Tip-Sleeve? On the T1 channels, 1,2,3 1/4" (6.3mm) inputs are high impedance inputs and relatively high input sensitivity. This is great for acoustic guitar pickups. T1 channel inputs 4/5 are better suited for line-level inputs. All of these should take the output from an L.R. Baggs Para DI, but the gain staging is...Read More...

Bose L1 Model II - Power Drops

Hi, Over the years I've a number of what appeared to be "power output drops" when gigging with The Model IIs - this was manifested by a drop in music volume output. We play a number of venues where the power available is "less than ideal" and we can get hum introduced when venue equipment is switched on and off during the night but, more worryingly, we have also experienced these "power output drops". These happen rarely but are worrying when they do and are unsettling at best. I read...Read More...
I had the typical volume trouble last nite again. Pretty much every gig... perhaps its just limiting that's giving me the sense of lower volume , who knows. My lights on the power stand and A1 never turn red though, which makes me think I'm not limiting? As per power conditioners, etc, I found the info I remembered from way back.... not sure if this pertains to what you have in mind ... "We do not recommend external voltage regulators because we found that in many cases they cause more harm...Read More...

L1 1S, T8 and B1 coming today - 4-piece gig on Sunday

Hello! My L1 1S with B1 and T8 is coming today. We have a gig on the (outside) back patio of a bar on Sunday, expecting 100 or more people. Band is: guitar, bass, drums and keys/accordian so 4 piece with 3 vocals. We usually go with JBL traditional PA, two 10's and two 15's and a Mackie 16 channel. I would like to use the new L1 for the gig but not sure of the best way. Currently thinking we might use the L1 just for (3) vocals and we all use our amps for instruments. Would the L1 carry...Read More...
Gig passed and while guest of honor was pleased, not everyone agreed the L1 1S and B1 paired with an L1 compact carried the oomph we needed in the outdoor back patio. Depends on who we asked. Folks up front said we had a nice balanced volume. Folks in back said they couldn't (or could barely) hear us. Band members were split. Of course the drummer said we weren't loud enough. We used the L1's to carry three vocals, accordion and a little bit of kick drum. Towers were behind us and if I had...Read More...

Chasing tone: XLR (via DI) vs. 1/4" into the T1 ToneMatch?

Short question is: Should I consider buying a DI (active or passive) for my acoustic guitar signal into the T1 ToneMatch mixer? Longer explanation: Though I now run an L1M2, I used to run an L1 Compact (a pair, actually) with a small outboard mixer. Even though that mixer only had 1/4 outputs, converting the 1/4 to XLR (with a cable, not a DI) connected to the Mic channel on the L1 Compact resulted in a FAR better signal. Louder, hotter, crisper - I mean, the sound quality difference was...Read More...

buzzing in the L1 compact

I have a Bose L1 compact. A while ago, it started making a hum or buzz when I turn the volume up. It's very distracting and it seems to be getting worse. I don't know what to do about it. Low Feedback in Certain Venues

Hi L1 Compact users. I use my L1 compact very often to perform my comedy-juggling show in a variety of venues, both inside and outside and it has been a fantastic piece of equipment. The only issue I have is in a reverberant gym or small space where I will get low feedback from my microphone that causes me to take a few steps away from the unit. I have the L1 Compact literally 50 feet away and strategically in front of me in gyms and it doesn't make any difference. I use a bunch of different...Read More...

Hi dblack25, Welcome to the Bose Portable PA Community. I wouldn't be concerned about an L1 Model II from 2012. The L1 Model II is a current unit and service is readily available if you need it, directly from Bose. You can call Bose Support to find out what service options you have is something goes wrong. Check to see if the dealer offers any kind of warranty. Once you know about service options, you can decide if an extended warranty makes sense for you. Does that help? I agree with what ST said about the coverage. If you want to use the Compact as a Stage monitor, pick one of the 6 output channels to use as a monitor mix and use the Main Left Output for the L1 S. (Then pan all channels to the left) Depending on the site and the coverage needed, you could use both bose units for FOH. Just put all of the instruments in the L1 S on Main L or R output and use the Compact for only vocals in the other Main output. Just pan the channels so only vocals go to the...Read More...

Hi LarryO, Thanks for asking. Unfortunately, the Cylindrical Radiator® (stack) and the Power Stand of the two models, are not interchangeable. Each model is only available as complete unit (Cylindrical Radiator® plus matching Power Stand). Your B2 will work on both though. Bose doesn't have an upgrade option but you may be able to find a dealer who will take the L1 Model 1S as a trade-in toward an L1 Model II. That's outside any Bose involvement. STRead More...

Which L1(s) best for this situation?

Hi-end bar, adjacent to restaurant. Jazz trio (+) as house band, semi-permanat, on very small stage. Could not fit baby grand, so will be using Roland FP90 or similar, small drum kit (16 or 18" bass) with single overhead mic, upright bass w/pickup. Occasional vocalist and or horn will be squeezed in, so 1-2 extra mic channels. Plan to use Bose 8-channel Tone Master. Question is, which L1? @ST - Thanks, this ought to provide some good initial guidance once we start setting up, pre-opening. Yes, we will use a T8S, so this should provide more tools to tweak sound to room/stage peculiarities. And your thoughts on the glass wall are reassuring. Also, the stage sound from T8S/L1 will be cabled into the overall venue AV system. Here, if desired, a Bose matrix router can send the signal to Bose amps and ceiling speakers+sub in each of two zones in this room - bar-end and far-end,...Read More...
