Hi I have an L1 model 1 and an S1 Pro. I have just ordered a new Tonematch T1 and am seeking advice on the best way to set this up. I currently use XLR cables into my mixer direct from the VLP GTX. I would welcome comments from anyone who uses this system AndyRead More...

Static or hum on higher volumes

Hi, just trying to find out why the Bose LI can't be turned above 1/2 volume without a loud hum or static coming out of the speaker. I attempted to use a mini-mixer with it and the hum increased. If playing at a large venue, the volume would need to be higher, but it can't be turned very high without the loud hum. (I'm plugging a Dean Markley transducer into it.) How do I resolve the loud hum? Thanks.Read More...
"I'm plugging a Dean Markley transducer into it." I have two instruments that have "workable" issues with piezo electric transducers. My Traveler Guitar Ultra-Light Acoustic-Electric Travel Guitar, with a Shadow piezo electric transducer gave me similar symptoms brand new out of the box. Since it was the only one they had in stock, I took off the access panel and immediately noticed two balled up cold soldered joints on the endpin jack attached to the pickup. The solution was to remove the...Read More...

DIY T1 mixer mount onto an L1 Compact.

I, (and apparently other people) wish that my T1 tone match could mount to my L1 compact. I did review the other options and eventually purchased the Bose mic stand adapter which works well enough, but still wished for the on-the-column option. In studying/measuring the bracket inside the base which holds the column, I started looking at off the shelf items that might be able to emulate the Bose bracket and allow me to attach the T1 bracket that came stored in the lid. After a visit to one...Read More...

Adding Alto Stealth Wireless to Bose L1 S2

I have a Bose L1 S2. I want to add the Alto Stealth Wireless capability to the Tonematch mixer. I have tried multiple configurations with multiple channels with no success. I tried using the Alto system with a regular mixer and it works fine so I know it is not the Alto. Could it be that the Tonematch does not support adding the wireless capability. Thanks GordoRead More...
Hi Gordo, That's puzzling. It shouldn't make a difference, but please try a couple of short Tip-Sleeve cables. I'm sorry about the link. I've fixed it now. Configuring Aux Outputs Unless you need the headphone output for headphones, using the headphone output is the only way to have an independent volume control for the remote speakers. Swinging back around to that, are you running two remote speakers using two separate receivers? What cable you are using to connect the T4S headphone output...Read More...

Bose L1 Model II amp usage

Quick question....Ive been looking everywhere....does anyone know how many amps one L1 model II pulls?Read More...
If you are running near max volume (clip light flickering red), two is all you can do before the system will reset itself, especially on low voltage situations. I have actually run 3 before, but on medium volume, and it was just fine. Just don't expect to plug more gear into the circuit. I have found that each L1 as its max draw can be 6 amps. What I have found with the L1 is that if you are near the maximum load on a circuit, the L1 will reset itself, even though bigger, louder, more...Read More...

Feedback in small bars

roberttee
Hi. I have an acoustic duo (2 acoustic guitars, two mics) and we use the Bose L1 Compact with the Tonematch mixer. When we are in a large space or outdoors, the system sounds fantastic. But when we are in tight quarters, I am getting feedback, even when I move our mics to the side. I bought my unit used, so I can't say for sure how the previous owner had it set up, and I'm no expert on EQ settings. I was under the impression that we could stand almost right in front of the unit and not get...Read More...

2 B1s in place of B2

Hello fellow Bose enthusiast. I have a L1 M2 and I was thinking of retiring my B2 with much regret, as I love the sound. I can't deal with the weight and size with my shoulders. I'm a solo guitarist and vocalist. I play acoustic and electric. I use a Trio to make my backing tracks. The bass, drums and various keyboards, sound awesome through my current configuration. I don't D J though I have used it a number of times in theaters and outdoors events. I'm worried that the system will loose...Read More...

Using in-ear monitors with the Bose L1 (type2) via tonematch??

We have an L1 (type2?) system which is used with the tonematch. We play as a four piece band in reasonably small venues with it. We have drums, electric guitar, bass guitar, acoustic guitar and saxophone. The only things amplified via the Bose system are 2X vocals, acoustic guitar and saxophone (via the 4 channels on the tonematch) I am the singer, acoustic guitar player and saxophone player, so everything I do goes through the L1. I have suffered with tinnitus and am turning to in-ear...Read More...

Performing with the L1 Model II

Stan the Saxman
Hello fellow L1 users. I want to share an experience I had this past June that typifies my experience with the L1 product line. I am a solo entertainer. I sing and play alto/tenor sax. Most of my repertoire consists of Jazz Standards. I live in NE Ohio. My venues include restaurants, wineries, country clubs, weddings, parties, corporate events and festivals. I have been a Bose user since 2006. I currently have the L1 classic, 2 L1 Model II, 2 B1, 1 B2, 1 Compact, 2 ToneMatch and 1 T4S. Not...Read More...

B1 questions

ST- slightly off topic, but doesn't the L1 with two B1s connected run half the power as opposed to one B1 connected? Just made me think from what you said above. L1 runs 250rms watts to one B1 L1 runs 125rms to each B1 when two are connected, in addition to running a -6db on the signal sent to the B1. You can move this to another thread if needed. I actually did some weird testing this past weekend (by accident) as I was hooking up additional B1s. One B1 was louder most of the times compared...Read More...
I had B2s and they did the same thing. This happens even with the radiators disconnected, but that is a different issue altogether, and not what I am talking about here... I do have another thread about the limiting of the L1. Here, I was just commenting on how 1 B1 was louder than 2 at most volumes. Anyhow, I am still pretty happy with. my setup-- Dual L1 with B1 setup + dual F1 SubsRead More...

Hello everyone...looking for some guidance as this will be the first time that I will be using both of my Bose at the same time in a room that is 132' by 131'. ADDING TWO MONITORS WITH THE L1 COMPACT SYSTEM

HI, I would like to add 2 more monitors with the compact L1 combine with the Tonematch T1. Is it possible to do it and how should I do it? Thank's JGRead More...
Hi JG, Yes, you can, but the signal at the Preamp Outputs is post-trim (only). You won't get the ToneMatch Presets, zEQ, ParaEQ, Effects or reverb. The T1 Master or Aux Outs is what most people use for monitors. Looking at this block diagram for the Yamaha MS60S active monitors, The inputs are unbalanced. You use Tip-Sleeve cables. Using Tip-Ring-Sleeve cables will not perform better. STRead More...

Connecting L1 Compact to VL3X & T1

Hello all I am wanting to connect a VoiceLive 3 Extreme with my T1 and L1 Compact. Although the sound of the guitar and mic work properly when all three are connected, the T1 controls don't seem to work (can't adjust volume with mic channel etc). Correct Bose L1 system? Home and on the deck for outside entertainment

I'm new to the forum and L1 products. I need a speaker system that allows me to use my home stereo amplifier with CD and Karaoke components, video to TV, to include acoustic/electric guitar and vocals. Can anyone help me match the correct Bose L1 system? Use would be in the home and on the deck for outside entertainment. Thanks - Dan Edit Subject: Previously "The Right Setup" Bose Pro Community AdminRead More...
Hi Dan, Welcome to the Bose Portable PA Community. It's easy to connect your home stereo amplifier or Karaoke components or TV (if it has RCA outputs) to S1 Pro system or L1 Compact With either the S1 Pro or L1 Compact you can also add up to One microphone One instrument (e.g., electric guitar) Which one: S1 Pro or L1 Compact. That will depend on the size of your room inside and the deck outside, and the style of music you're playing. If you want to run more than one source at a time...Read More...

Detached base to hang tower hack?

What's up all! I'm going to be figuring this one out, but was hoping someone had already done it before. I need to detach the base unit from the tower itself so I can conceal the base unit and hang the tower on the wall to consolidate space and be able to better utilize the room depending on whatever set up I need. Hoping there's some sort of video or diagram showing how to connect the tower with a cable of sorts to the base. Thanks in advance for any advice!Read More...
Unadapted by BOSE of course, but looking at what you are doing in terms of connection there will be absolutely zero difference sonically to the performance of your tower whether in the power stand or connected via cable. Cables have no affect on the acoustics of your tower. Make sure you use the right cable tho. Speaker not mains and I’d vote for at least 1.5 to 2.5 gauge on a short run of a few metres. I can imagine that looking as well as sounding sweet...Read More...

Bose service

Hello, I purchased two Bose L1 Compacts about 8 years ago, and love them. Recently, one of the Compact’s volume faded and eventually lost all sound about 3 hours into a gig. Question on (2) Model 2 position for 3 piece band

Hello, I just had a question on the best placement for our 2 L1 systems for my 3 piece band. We played one show already and I positioned them as you see in the sketch. T1 partially unresponsive

Nick from New Zealand
I had the need to run a PAIR of L1 Model 2 this weekend. Last time I did this, I ran dual mono and didn't get enough separation between the sticks and it sounded bad bad bad. So this time, I set everything up, followed all the instructions for a proper stereo config and with 6 metres between them, and used a power supply for the T1. I ran from a stereo DJ mixer to ch 1 and 2. XLR to TRS. Ch1 was presumed master out. Ch2 was set up for AUX out. Here's what was wrong during the test set up.Read More...

Using S1 as a monitor

Ok guys Last night I was doing a fair sized venue with around 150 people in, it's a nice sized room with great acoustics and a nice big stage area, so I loaded the L1 Model 2 with B2 and had the S1 onboard which I planned to use as a monitor. Not sure if I connected things properly but I was running the M2 from the Tonematch port on my T1, got the FoH sound then ran a balanced lead from the T1 main output to the S1 and that's when I encountered issues. When I began to increase the volume of...Read More...
With the info from ST using the S1 as a monitor should’ve worked fine. We have a Yamaha MGX12 mixer with our L1M2 and use the mixer’s Aux Out to go to the S1. That’s pretty much what you were doing with the T1 it seems. That approach worked great for us. We actually didn’t use the S1 as a monitor but as an “extension speaker” to the L1. We periodically play in a venue that is L shaped and one of the Ls goes to the side and behind the stage (very awkward space). We used the S1 on a stand...Read More...

Larger Venue Signal Chain Concern

Hi. I just got my L1 Model II, B1 Bass and T8S last week and have been rehearsing with my acoustic-duo mate in my home studio. I'm excited to be free of my old live sound system, and I've been able to find answers to all the question I can think of except one. And I'm afraid this one might bite me if I don't get some expert advice. Q: What's the proper way to set up the trim on the power base, and how does this relate to the master volume setting on the T8S? I've successfully set the channel...Read More...
ST, I'll do the longer story on the duo (TwoCan Jam KC) later. But, yeah, we had a great time! Nice people, great charity and a very successful event. Plenty of handshakes, hugs and smiles for us. Bass weakens ONLY at high volumes

First, I want to say I love my L1s and have been using them since 2010, and don't plan on getting rid of them until BOSE releases the next version, but I can't help but notice that the bass is not as strong at high volume levels. Luckily for me I get to play at a lot of the same venues (I DJ) for crowds up to 250 people and I get to do proper sound checks before gigs. This might not be published or discussed often, but it is quite evident that the bass is weaker when pushing the L1 at high...Read More...
