L1 wedding ceremony setup

Gig Report: Hey all, one of the great functions of the L1 is the wide dispersion. When you use these outside, the sound just fills the space, and for things like a wedding ceremony, you don't need to have the PA right up front to cover the area. I set the L1 in the cluster of trees in the flower bed, to the side about in line with the second row of seats, and angled the face of the cylinder toward the back corner. What's not shown in these pics is that there were people sitting up the hill...Read More...
I use an L1 Compact for fill in awkward or large setups, and I don mostly weddings. I just use a bodypack transmitter (Shure) from the Bose T4s and send the signal to the L1 Compact, the same could be done for the S1. I also bring a battery to power the L1, but with the S1, it would be even more versatile bc you can run it on battery.Read More...

B2 Bass Module cutting out intrmitantly

I've been using my Bose L1 Model 2 system with B2 Bass Module for 4 years now.. I love the system but have been experiencing problems with the bass module pretty much since I bought the system.. Basically sometimes when I set up my PA I would have nothing coming from the Bass at all.. I always have at least 2 of every lead/ cable handy in case of emergencies.. but changing cables didn't help.. then without warning it would start working again.. a bit of a pain but at least it always started...Read More...
Thank you for that ST.. I phoned Bose UK last night and I am waiting for a technician to call me back regarding the problem.. Thanks again everyone for taking time out to help..Read More...

What type of line input cable to use

Hello again, I use my Bose L1 S1 with a Behringer X-Air digital mixer. Typically I connect the Bose system to the Mains Left output and pan everything to the left. I recently ran into a problem though. I had to set the system up with the Mixer further away from the Bose system than usual. I had previously bought a 25 foot balanced XLR to Trs cable for this situation. I set up my system and turned everything on but there was no sound coming out. I could see from the mixer's meters that there...Read More...
CCC, It's a fully digital standalone mixer. It's controlled by a computer app or tablet over the mixer's own wifi network, so it doesn't use any of the computer's hardware.Read More...

L1 Model I, no response from B1 Bass module

Have an L1 M1 with issues and seeking advice. The bass won't work. If we unplug the bass unit the 24 speaker work fine and I can hear the music. (Just less bass). Plug the bass in and the whole lot sounds very tinny. There's also a nasty buz now when we turn the unit on. Checked all leads, bass feed and link for second B1. any advice on other checks please ? Edit Subject: Previously "L1 M1" Bose Pro Community AdminRead More...
Hi ScubaBadger, I'm sorry your L1 Model I has stopped working correctly. The L1 Model I and L1 Classic were engineered to work (with less bass) without a bass module. With the L1 Model I, when there was no bass module detected the crossover switched from 200 Hz to around 110 Hz. That's why it's still okay without a B1 (just less bass). The system detects the B1 and switches the crossover to 200 Hz, and the system sounds tinny. That's hard to diagnose, but from the other symptoms, it sounds...Read More...

Connecting L1 1S to Two powered PA Speakers

Hello, I've had my L1 1S for a few months now and I love it it. I can't get over how great everything sounds coming out of such a small system. We're a four piece band, two guitars, bass and drums, three vocals. We typically play small bar, patio type venues. However, we have a gig coming up where we will be playing outside at a small beer festival. There will be a small stage set up in a large parking lot and I expect we'll be playing to about 100 people directly in front of the stage but...Read More...
Hi Again, We did our gig yesterday and everything went great. I daisy chained the two powered PA speakers and connected them to the mains right output and connected the Bose ZL1 to the mains left output. Once I balanced the sound between the PA speakers and the Bose it sounded awesome, more than enough sound to cover the event. Thanks again for your advice and help, it was very appreciated. Take care, WillieRead More...

B1 and B2 Questions

We are an acoustic trio, but sometimes have a bass player. We have some options with two systems, but rarely need to use both systems. What is louder, two B1s, or one B2? What has a better bass response, two B1s or one B2? In one L1 system, can you run two B1s and a B2 together? If so, how? On a B2, what is the best bass level setting on the back of the speaker for guitar and vocals? Will two B1s sound better, if not louder, for guitar and vocals, than one B1? Thanks!Read More...
It depends. From a drum perspective: In my former band, I mic'd my bass drum with an Audix D6 Mic in a 5" hole in the rest head. Prior to the B2, I used 4-B1s with an Bose A1 Packlite amplifier. When B2 came out I bought one, preferred the NORMAL level (or -) and while I liked the added low warmth and sustain, I missed the punch. I also had lots of unruly bass frequency issues on hollow, elevated stages, and corner stages. Enough problems to quit using the B2. Acting on info gained here in...Read More...

ST thank you for all the useful insights and experiences you shared. Very good you noticed about the bass. A customer actually said that to me about the bass. I have to remember that. Yes when I sing I have it in Dj playback with tracks - I will change that while I am singing and also make sure b2 bass is set as you indicated. From what you suggested I think I will go with the S1 Pro. Most probable wireless but we see. Thank you so much for helping me. PatriziaRead More...

L1 hook up with F1

Hi I was wondering …. is there an effective way of running an L1m2 (b2 Bass Module) & 1 F1(1 top 1 bottom) system together I realise they have different power capacity but can one effectivly monitor whats coming out of the F1 (front of house ) with what you have behind you (the L1) ? if so what would be the hook up ? I run both a TS8 & a T1 together at gigs and if this is an impractical way to go for whatever reason , no problem :-) cheers Jerome PS - additional info(may/ may not be...Read More...
Hi Jerome Hillier, Great news! Thanks for coming back to report your results. A Scene is a snapshot of all your settings except the physical controls for input trim, channel volume, master volume. The Aux levels and routing are saved with a Scene. That's a nice setup one the pedal board. That looks convenient and tidy. Thanks for the pictures. You might be fine but speaking personally, I would not put any piece of electronic gear on top of a B2. If I was using your setup, I'd put the...Read More...

The right way to connect 2 L1s classic with T1

I plan to use two L1s classic with T1 mixer. I have 4 B1s should I use them all or 1 for each power stand. i have learnt a few things after I joined Bose community and from here on I want to do it right. Please advise SidRead More...
Hi Sid, Thanks for the information., The T1 is mono device so you can't pan sound sources from one side to the other although in some situations you can get creative to force things. That won't work very well for vocals. Try this: Microphones to T1 channels 1, 2, 3. T1 Master Output to the first L1 Classic - channel 1. First L1 Classic channel 1 line out to the second L1 Classic. Stereo Keyboards Connect the keyboards directly to the L1 Classics Keyboard 1 Left output to first L1 Classic...Read More...

L1 Compact need more volume

I am using my L1 compact at 50-150 person venues for comedy shows using a Shure wireless Mic and music from an ipad. Some of the venues get quite loud and am looking to invest in another L1 compact and daisy chaining them. I have an S1 that I have daisy chained to the compact for extra volume on occasion and it helps. My compact always seemed to be maxed out when it is cranked up to about 3/4 before feedback. I have heard the best remedy is an L1 model 1 or 2 but I like the quick, easy light...Read More...
To expound on ST's post, we have a pair of L1 Compacts that we use with our small Acoustic band (I guess I can't say "trio" any more as we just added my daughter's fiancé <g> , and I typically carry in mostly all of the gear and set it up (oh hey...now I have another guy to help!). LI Model II - T8S Volume level problems with master outputs

I am using the T8s. We plan to use two powered speakers out front and place the L1 behind us. A T1 ToneMatch mixer is connected to the T8S via the channel 9 input on the T8S. Channels 1-8 on the T8s are panned to the center. I am using a balanced 1/4 TRS cable from the right master output channel (mono) to the L1 base. Tonight in practice we also connected the left XLR master output to a powered speaker (Mackie SRM-450). The volume level to the L1 was as usual and fine. However the master...Read More...

L1s and compact with t8s and monitors?

I have a job this weekend where I would like to use my L1s and compact as the “mains” on either side of the stage, but I may have to use a qsc and/or my s1 pro wedge as well (for the drummer and the lead singer). I just got the t8s, but I’m not entirely sure how to connect all this properly. My assumption is to use 1/4in trs cables from the outs on the t8s into the L1s and channel 2 on the compact. Would I run the wedges into the main outs on the t8s?Read More...
Hi Charlie, Welcome to the Bose Portable PA Community. Thanks for the details in your question. Please make sure your T8S is up to date by following this link. T4S/T8S Firmware Update Instructions Yes! You can use the T8S 1/4 inch (6.3 mm) Tip-Ring-Sleeve main outputs. You can connect the T8S XLR outputs to the monitors (wedges). The output of the 1/4 Tip-Ring-Sleeve and XLR jacks are identical. This means you'll get the same signal going to all four loudspeakers (L1S, L1 Compact,...Read More...

Bose L1 1S and Tonematch T8S Setup for Karaoke

I have two Bose L1S, two B2's and a Tonematch T8S. My fiancee wanted me to dedicate a couple of channels for stereo karaoke track input from a laptop. If I do assign the left and right karaoke track audio to say, channels 7/8, would I apply any particular Tonematch setting to those channels for this purpose? Use of a Bose MB4

Hiya I currently use a pair of Bose L1s qith natching B1's for band qork... I'm thinking of adding a pair of Bose MB4's..is this possible? My logic is that you can use two B1s per side as they are both 8 ohm and presumably go down to 4ohm when linked..hence bigger output. I notice the MB4s are also 8 ohm...so could I come from L1s to Bose B1 with the output from B1 going to MB4..safely? Durely it still provides a 4 ohm load? And thered be 6 drivers. Last week I skipped the B1s and just ran...Read More...
h thats fine...bit worried about the 'probably' ..but as long as it only goes to a max load of 4 ohm thats fine...same as two B1's but with 6 drivers as opposed to 4 and a bigger cab to move the air... Taylor tuning using a T1 tuner

I recently came across a video from James Taylor who said the acoustic guitar is not a precise instrument. He found a method of tuning that seems to account for the vagaries of the instrument. It requires tuning the strings a few cents flat according to the following formula. E. -3 cents; B -6 cents; G -4 cents; D -8 cents; A -10 cents; E -12 cents So on my T1 tuner how can I measure -3 cents for example? What are the graduations on the T1 screen?Read More...
I saw that video as well. That setup may be what works perfectly for James Taylor's Olsen built guitar and the way his bridge, saddle and frets are set up his capo position and the way he plays/where he usually puts his fingers but it's highly likely that "your mileage may vary". I've been playing acoustic guitars for over 50 years and have owned over a dozen of them and it depends on the guitar and what I'm playing. Each of the seven I own now have different characteristics and once the...Read More...

chirping

Mixer to L1 Compact T8S vs Touchmix8

I am planing to buy a mixer for my L1 Compact. Mostly is will used for small live performances. The most common devices are Yamaha digital piano(only has headphone out to connect) Yamaha acoustic guitar, Violin with AKG pickup, Roland TDK11-v electronic drums (again head phone out) and vocal 4 to 5 mics. Therefore, I would mainly rely on the presets and then adjust...Read More...
I don't have the L1M2 any more. I'm down to my JBL EON One, 2 Behringer Subwoofers and 2 Bose S1 Pros. When I last had it set up I ran one channel of the QSC Touchmix to the Bose using a balanced XLR to TRS 1/4" cable. There's no reason (unless you're segregating the voices and instruments -- left and right) to use 2 channels from the Touchmix (or any external mixer) into a monophonic L1M2. When I used the T1, I'd go from Touchmix to channel 1 using XLR to XLR.Read More...

Outputting to a external amp-> passive speakers

Jeff, You are indeed quite right regarding resistor value and no significant loss of gain. I will confess I'm not a professional electronics engineer although I did start out working in the professional audio equipment business, but that was a lifetime ago in the early to late 70's (yep... showing my age now!). Nowadays, in fact for a long long time, impedance matching no longer exists. Now the simple rule is low impedance drives into high impedance. I guess I was still thinking in terms of...Read More...
