Replacing an old L1 Model 1

I have 3 L1 Model 1 systems, each with a B1. I run three musicians (bass/vocal; guitar/vocal; keys/vocal), each to his own system. The drums are routed to all 3 systems. Here is the problem: one of the units crashed. Bose says they cannot repair and have offered to replace it, either with a Model 1S or with a Model II. My question: which of those choices will best match up with the remaining 2 older systems? Any suggestions? Also, how practical is it to try to find a 3rd party who will...Read More...

L1 model II with TS4 Karaokay

Hello, First time I have brought the L1 model II base 2 with T4s for karaoke in the church basement, The sound came out terrible worst than the street karaoke system. My friend set up as following: T4S channels: * 1 and 2 connected to a Shure wireless PG58. * 3 connected to a bluetooth transmitter & receiver Model B03 (Bluetooth B03). https://www.amazon.com/Bluetoo...0700052153&psc=1 My friend finally found out and changed that the stereo cable to mono cable from the bluetooth B03,...Read More...

Power on but no sound from L1 Classic

Hello, I have 3 L1 Classics that have been trouble free since 2003. One of them however has decided to go quiet on me. The power LED comes on and the signal LED on the channel 1 and/or 2 show that the signal is present to the amp. I can hear a faint hiss in the tower but nothing else. Any suggestions?Read More...

Is one system suitable for DJing in a small pub?

Hi everyone, I am a mobile DJ, doing small gigs in pubs and clubs and I have just ordered the L1 Model II & B1 Bass Module. My question, or questions rather, are:- 1) Is one system suitable for this? 2) If I connect my mixer to the panel with a 2xphono to stereo jack cable, will the sound still be good stereo quality? Thanks in advance for your help.Read More...
Since you are DJ'ing, I'd highly recommend getting a B2 to replace the B1. It turns the LIMII into a very competent DJ system while still having the flexibility to handle other needs easily. When you want the bottom end to be strong the B2 can deliver! You have a three position switch on the B2 to determine the correct bass level for the event/job.Read More...

Firmware updates with macBook Pro running Mojave 10.14.2

I have been so impressed with my pre-owned L1 m1 with 2 x B1s but I have found the powerbase a bit cumbersome in small venues where there is no stage or the stage is about the size of a postage stamp. As a consequence I tried out a 1s and liked it. I subsequently bought one. I now have a new 1s, a pre-owned B2 and B1, a new T1 and S1Pro. Whilst I am still getting to grips with the settings for various venues I haven't felt the need to update the firmware and will not attempt to do so until...Read More...

T1 Preset - How do I turn off DJ/Playback High Volume Music?

Hi there Can you advise please-I recently purchased a B2, and in short I had to undergo firmware updates to the L1 model 2 power stand for the B2 to work in all 3 positions-a Bose retailer did this for me. He also showed me how to increase the output by setting the Tonematch to DJ playback-'high'. Ever since this, and having tried changing this setting to 'Low' (very little difference) my backing tracks now seem to have too much bass, whether I am using the new B2 or my old B1's x 2. Brand New L1 Model 2 Quit

2 L1 Model 2's Brand new, first gig... ran about 10 minutes a very modest volume.. Suddenly the sound became very gritty and distorted and within a few seconds it simply quit.. The power light remained on however the incoming signal shows no signal. Flipped the the inputs at the board and to verify there is a signal present.. everything is good, connections are correct. No sound.. Help please..Read More...
Hi Lee, Thank you for all the detailed information. That was helpful. The only thing that comes to mind - is the possibility you were running stereo signals into the L1 Model II analog inputs (that are balanced mono). That won't work. Your older L1 units had unbalanced mono inputs - and those tolerate a stereo input better. But the difference in wiring doesn't account for all your troubles. At this point it's best if you call Bose Support on Monday. They will help you. Bose® Product &...Read More...

Volume Decay Case Solved!

Hoping that revealing my ignorance might help someone else someday. I have a new L1, B1, T8S. I noticed that I was getting seemingly random volume loss in Channel 3 (acoustic guitar). I couldn’t figure out whether I had a Bose issue or a guitar issue. Turns out it was a “me” issue. Apparently, I was occasionally (and unintentionally) powering up my system components in the wrong order. The set up: My guitar plugs directly into a vocal harmonizer (for key detection), which then sends the...Read More...
Hi Tom, Thanks for sharing this. It's this sort of input which can really be helpful to many who are trying to find their feet in this field. Powering up: Source to Output Powering off: Reverse order Output to Source. This way you avoid the switching on/off signal surges which can cause the "thumps" from the loudspeakers which many of us have heard at some time or other. TonyRead More...

L1 Model 2 and Presonus Studiolive vs T4S Tonematch

Guys, I recently bought my L1 Model 2 with B2. I also bought Presonus StudioLive AR12 mixer but still waiting to receive it. I am debating whether to return this and just get a T4S as it is optimized for Bose L1. Any suggestions on whether I should do this? I don't see any single mono output from Presonus but it does have L and R Master XLR out. I am afraid that if I just use L-XLR to 1/2" on Bose Analog Input, I would lose sound quality. Is this true? What cable should I use to connect to...Read More...

Using L1 compact as monitor with T8S, and T1 L1 Model II, L1 Model 1S,

I have concert this Saturday. I went to see the auditorium and found out that it has terrible acoustics. The auditorium is wide compare to it's length. It's a sold out concert with roughly 250 people. I have one L1 compact, one L1 Model II with B2 base and one L1 Model 1S with B2 base. I have one T1 and one T8S tone match. If it's possible I was thinking of using L1 compact as a monitor and keeping Model II and 1S on each side of the stage in front. So: 1.) Is it possible? If yes how to...Read More...
Granted I am a DJ/KJ, but I have run into singers that want a separate vocal monitor aside from the main mix coming form the L1. Even if they are positioned perfectly, they often complain that they cannot hear themselves properly even though they are right there in the mix loud and clear. And I have never had a situation where an L1 compact was powerful enough to be used as a vocal monitor (especially next to any larger L1). I always end up having a QSC K10 or two in the wings in case people...Read More...

Using looper multi-instrumentalist

I want to play loops through my Pigtronix Infinity and Bose L1/1S/B1 system. Right now I'm sending two keyboards, a vocal mic, a "guitar" (actually a Banjola going into a Trace Acoustic) and a Beat Buddy into a TouchMix 8, using the stereo outs to go into two Bose towers. I put the Infinity looper between the TouchMix and the towers. I'm getting lots of hum/hiss. But I'm looking forward to a lot of fun with this. Just set up the system today. I'll be experimenting with it a lot tomorrow.Read More...

What is the best way to connect my Zed10FX Mixer to a L1 Compact ?

I already have a Allen & Heath Zed10FX mixer and just switched sold my soloamp (due to lack of base) and ordered a Bose L1 Compact. I usually run Voice + Acoustic Guitar with either a Mandolin/Ukulele and/or sometimes Congas. I plan to run 3 or so channels from the Zed10FX into the L1 but I dont know what the optimal setup would be. Right now I have some cables (25 ft 1/4" mono and XLR, 10 ft XLR and a few others) so I will probably have to buy a cable or adapter. I was thinking just...Read More...

Further proof of why you should never sum stereo piano patches to mono

I have been happy with the piano patch sound from my Yamaha keyboard ever since I bought a second Compact and run them in stereo. I then decided to upgrade my cheap Behringer mixer to a A&H ZED-10FX and the quality disappeared!! A&H told me that with the "listen" button pressed, which allows you to operate the phone volume independently from the main mix volume, the signal from separate channels is summed to mono!!!! With the "listen" button off, the stereo and the quality is...Read More...

Bad guitar sound (Gretsch)

I have an L1 Compact and ToneMatch mixer. Normally I output my Gretsch G5420 through a TC Electronic VoiceLive 3 Extreme and Boss Katana 100 amp but I'd like to be able to play the guitar through the L1 alone (less gear to carry), but it sounds awful. I've tried all the settings on the ToneMatch but they all sound like lifeless thuds. The VoiceLive 3 gives amp simulation and sounds great through the Katana. Is there anything I can do to improve the guitar sound through the L1?Read More...

Speaker recommendation

Hey bose family, wanted your suggestion on what system to get. We're a church in a 100ft x 50ft building with a raised stage(25ft-35ft) along the middle of the long side. We're currently using 2 Model L1 compacts as the main speakers . Sitting at either edge of the stage in front of the musicians, singers, and preacher. While these sound clear they lack in base and there at the limiter often. So were thinking of upgrading and using the compacts as monitors for them. What do you suggest?Read More...

Advice please on L1® Model II system with B2 bass

Hi. Think I joined here years ago when we started our duo. Got some great advice then and am hoping for some more as we're now both retired but amazingly still getting employment in bars and small venues. I play in a rock duo - covers of all sorts and we use backing tapes, mainly for drums/ bass but also a little piano ( I'm not great on it). We play the backings ( mono) from an iPad using the Onsong app for the lyrics. When we started about 8 years ago we bought: 2X L1 Model 1s ( pole and...Read More...

L1 Model I with T1 and 2 x B1 - Backing track sounds poor from my MacBook Pro

I seem to be having a problem getting the best from my Tonematch T1 with the L1 M1 and 2 x B1. The backing track sounds poor from my MacBook Pro. Can't put my finger on it. Not sure if I'm getting a full signal (ie both sides of stereo signal as mono) or whether there is reverb mixed in with the sound. Whatever, it sounds woolly. However, if I omit the T1 and use the S1 Pro as a mixer it sounds fine. For the time being I will work without the T1. BTW I have used the FX mute button on the...Read More...
