Paul Schaefer's L1 Set Up

Today I had the privilege of visiting the David Letterman set and learning more about how Paul Schaefer is using the L1 Classic that you have seen beside him for years. The system is fed by a sub-mix of all of Paul’s keys and synths enabling him to hear himself clearly on stage. The band also has an in-ear monitor mix which enables them to talk among themselves and listen to songs as David Letterman is interviewing guests. There is also a printer attached to the laptop so they can print...Read More...

Creative L1 Compact Uses

Ok so it has been over a year since the release of the L1® Compact system and we continue to hear stories about the product being used from everything from military services to fitness classes. I thought it would be a good idea to create an area to capture some of the more unique uses for the system aside from musical performances. So tell us; what types of creative uses have you found for the L1® Compact system? NeilRead More...
How about this for a creative use. Some have been known to call it a hat stand so .... (I know it's not a Compact but it seemed a bit silly to create a new thread just for this and the Modell II just happened to be set up) .... Maybe it will make someone smile in times where many feel that they have to go down into the basement to laugh. It reminds me a bit of ST's Avatar before the F1 joined the ranks. In case anyone's interested, the guitar is a Taylor T5 Standard in a black gloss finish. TonyRead More...

Hello Everyone, We wrote this before we introduced our new approach to live music amplification. These words appear on many of the cartons in the L1 family of products. We thought it would be good to repeat these words here.Read More...
This is an example of some of the old "Gems" which are turning up since the introduction of the new forum software. The words are as true now as they were then. Here's an example. My wife had a birthday party in January and I set up the Compact+T1 so that I could play easily for our guests and be heard anywhere in our living room which is L-shaped and about 50m2. Due to illnesses and bad weather forecast (snow) the party wasn't too big an affair and I could have played without amplification.Read More...

Connect TC-Helicon Voicelive Touch 2 to L1 Compact

Cable from socket to speaker?

Hi, I have a good question..... I need to mount my L1 model II in a tight space, and does not have room for the the socket. I am wondering if it's possible to mount the speaker alone, and the connect it to the socket using a cable? Thanks!Read More...
Hi Nielsen, This is a good question, and has been asked many times since the introduction of the original L1 Classic. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, there is no support from Bose for this type of use. You can use the Model II with just the lower array without harm and get reasonably good results in a pinch, but it will not provide the ideal dispersion of sound. I am not aware of anyone making cables for this purpose, but that doesn't mean they don't exist, it just means the answers aren't...Read More...

How many inputs can an L1S handle?

rpboy
I am doing a gig with 4 vocals, two electric guitars, a keyboard, and drum kit. I am planning to mic all the instruments (including vocals and keyboard) and a mic on the bass drum. The music is 60's British invasion so no monster bass or overwhelming sound is needed. The room where I'll use the L1S holds 225 people. I would like some feedback as to whether I could use one L1S or if I need to augment the system. Thanks much!Read More...

T1 Tonematch mixer necessary for just keyboards?

I am wondering if its worth it to use the T1 Tonematch mixer over an analog mixer if I am only inputting my keyboards through my Bose. More Transparent than an analog mixer?Read More...
Hi Tencredible, I have done comparison testing with a variety of analogue mixers vs the T1. Only the very expensive large analogue consoles provide as good a sound quality as the T1. The issue with the smaller inexpensive mixers is that the preamp and EQ circuitry are not up to par. There's a saying around here regarding budget class analogue mixers: "This thing sounds ok until you start turning knobs!" This does not apply to the smaller mixers designed and manufactured by the high end...Read More...

Don't punish yourself, easy mistake when in a hurry. I do use some of the effects in the PLAY ELECTRIC! but have not yet tried any of the modelling. T1® and Electric Guitar Tone

This is an interesting and friendly forum! Now I have another question regarding my Electric Guitars / PRS. Maybe stupid, however... To obtain a fine sound it's inevitable to use an amplifier or something like a Line 6 Pod isn't it? Of course, the T1 does not provide distortion or crunchy sound. But is there a way to connect the guitar directly into the T1 and turn some knobs to achieve a powerful clean sound?Read More...
Hi Tom, Overdrive in the T1® - wouldn't that have been fun. It would have been handy from time to time, but it would not have replaced my regular guitar rig. I have PA mixer that has some decent Digitech guitar processing built in. That's interesting to have as a backup or to save effort for a quick rehearsal, but it's no replacement for a full rig. Here's an early article about Electric Guitar Research at Bose . It's interesting to see where they drew the line between tone creation (what...Read More...

T1 Tonematch reset itself during performance

I've had my T1 for over a year now and never had and issue until this evening. I was playing a wedding tonight (DJ) when suddenly the T1 seemed to "reset" itself for no reason. This happened during the last 30 minutes of the night and I had been running continuously for almost six hours without an issue. L1® Compact - What vocal microphone are you using?

ST
The Compact is in interesting creation and as it was with the Classic, and the Model II with T1®, it is a reason to go and revisit old ideas. In my case, this was to think about vocal microphones. I was looking for a simple dynamic microphone - something easy. If you get the L1® Compact Accessory Pack it includes an Audix OM3 microphone. I don't have one of those here so I went through my dynamic microphones to see what might work. I was surprised to find that an old EV N/D 408 works really...Read More...

Hi, Joe! Thank you for joining the Community. Warning Do NOT connect the speaker output of a powered mixer to the Model II Power Stand. You could damage the L1® or the powered mixer, or both. Having said that... Yes, it's okay to connect a mixer (line level output) to the analog input of the Model II Power Stand while connected to the T1® through the ToneMatch port. Voicelive Play into L1 Compact

I know there are a lot of threads out here talking about the best way to connect a Voicelive Play to an L1...but what is the best way to connect if I want to keep the ToneMatch on the L1 for my guitar?? I only have the Voicelive Play..not the Acoustic...so what is the best way to get the vocal effects into the L1 and keep the ToneMatch on my guitar? Is it possible to run the FX into the RCA inputs/Aux channel since it isn't affected by the ToneMatch preset?? Hope this isn't too confusing!Read More...
It is possible to use both the 1/4 inch and the RCA inputs on channel 2 at the same time. You will need a way to control the level of the two sources to achieve a proper balance at input. As I understand it, even with the ToneMatch engaged for the guitar, the RCA is still not affected. If you are looking at the page copied below as a means of separating a dry vocal from a wet one. Controlling the levels would be very difficult without the use of a separate stereo mixer. (I just gave the...Read More...

New Compact Lover - It doesn't always need to be a Model II

Seagullman
I just thought I'd share a story which has just happened (in fact it's still in the process). A friend of mine called yesterday to say that her Model II Power Stand had failed (Red Light and Fan on all the time from what I could gather). A case for Bose technical repair services. I said yes but asked her if she really needed the...Read More...

Regarding the "right tool for the right job" you're certainly not wrong on that one. CAT5 cable on Model2 - Advice on how long cable can be

I play with a blues band, and we use the Model 2 for many of our smaller venues and when space is tight (width-wise). I have 2 Tonematch engines mounted to my mic stand for full control over the overall band sound. However, the power stand is behind the drummer, and I stand stage right, out front. With the Bose CAT5 cable, I find I need to stand right in front of the drummer as it doesn't reach to where I really need to stand. The power stand also needs to be too close to the drummer for the...Read More...

My wishlist: An L1 model 2 with 10db more spl(super-L1m2!)

As a pro solo musician I have owned an L1m2 and dearly wished that it could go twice as loud. L1 Compact for acoustic duo

L1 Model 1 suitability

Hi, New to these forums and looking for some advice, hope i've posted under the right topic. I depped for a band couple years back on NYE using the Model 2 L1 with B2 bass and was blown away. Not to add confusion, but I usually run my 2 L1's (Mod II's now, but Classics previously) as L/R PA speakers in front of the band. For the size crowds you mentioned (2-500), that's a pretty big room to cover.
