We are a vocal trio with one acoustic guitar (piezo) and percussion as needed, playing small venues. We have two L1 Compacts used as dictated by the set up room allotted. If a lot of room is available we have one on each side, slightly behind us. With limited room we sometimes use only one or we will use one in front to address the FOH and one non-extended, (individually controlled from our mixer on a separate output) that we either set behind us or in front facing us as a monitor. Paul Schaefer's L1 Set Up

Today I had the privilege of visiting the David Letterman set and learning more about how Paul Schaefer is using the L1 Classic that you have seen beside him for years. The system is fed by a sub-mix of all of Paul’s keys and synths enabling him to hear himself clearly on stage. The band also has an in-ear monitor mix which enables them to talk among themselves and listen to songs as David Letterman is interviewing guests. There is also a printer attached to the laptop so they can print...Read More...

Ok so it has been over a year since the release of the L1® Compact system and we continue to hear stories about the product being used from everything from military services to fitness classes. This is an example of some of the old "Gems" which are turning up since the introduction of the new forum software. The words are as true now as they were then. Here's an example. Due to illnesses and bad weather forecast (snow) the party wasn't too big an affair and I could have played without amplification.Read More...

2 B1’s vs. 1 B2

Hi. I gig regularly with an L1S and B1 system. As a solo artist, I play acoustic guitar and sing and I also do duo gigs with a bass player (who currently brings his own small amp since my T1 mixer is taken up with two mics, my acoustic, and a BeatBuddy pedal). Anyway, I’m considering upgrading and buying another B1 to daisy chain with the one I already have. I was thinking I could plug the bass guitar into the 1/4” input on the base of the L1S. I guess my question is: is there an appreciable...Read More...

L1 Compact Output to Wireless/Bluetooth Ear Monitors

Wondering if anyone has tried/experienced using Wireless Ear Monitors thought the Output of the L1 Compact. L1 Model II with AX8 and Boss RC300 Best Preset.

I have used the Model II for years. I also own a Compact. T1 effects are good but after one too many Youtube videos I was sold on a Fractal AX8 modeler. Currently I plug into the AX8 then to a Boss Looper then to the T1. I am playing solo on a Taylor jumbo equipped with a Baggs M1 passive. I want to loop different parts with contrasting acoustic tones from the AX8. First question: I am not really sure which preset would be appropriate for FRFR modeling. Hey thanks again. Nobody ever wrote an article just for me before. Utility Flat seems to be the way to go. Been wondering about those T1 presets for years. Didn't need them with a dedicated Baggs T1 preset. I am really a newby when it comes to modeling. The Kemper looks beautiful and complicated. When I started playing guitar you didn't have to be all that smart. Now days you have to be sober to keep up. The AX8 would be impossible with out the great software that configures it.Read More...

2 L1 Compact systems

Will a pair of L1 compact systems be enough for a three or four man band (guitar, bass, keys and drums) playing soft rock in small rooms with less than 125 people? Three or four vocalists will be using the Bose system. We have unmic'd guitar amps and Roland V-Drums going through his own QSC K-10s. The Bose units would be used for vocals only. The room is approximately 40' X 80'Read More...
You'll be fine with 2 L1's for such rooms and audiences. Since you'll also have 2 B1's, the Bass should also be sufficient. I've played larger rooms with my one compact and never had to turn it all the way up. These units are quite efficient!Read More...

Acoustic Bass into T8s->L1: What are good choices for Pickup + Preset

Planning a stage setup for live jazz trio (plus occasional voice/horn) in a modest size venue, all running thru a ToneMatch 8 into a single L1-II. ( This thread explored questions of stage sound equipment for this particular venue.) Bass will be acoustic/upright, ideally running directly into the ToneMatch. Sound Coverage by Bose L1 Model 1S

Dear Sir, I am planning to purchase TWO Bose L1 Model 1S with B2 and ONE T8S digital mixer for Bands in Church, and will not use any instrument / vocal stage monitors by using In-Ear Monitor, but I am not sure if the two Bose L1 are placed at right position and the efficiency of sound coverage for all audience if no external pa speaker there. If I consider F1, I would get additional stage monitors and put F1 to the front edge of the stage, the top 812 would be mounted on ceiling. Therefore, my only concern is that the coverage distance of F1 if can fills up to 50 feet with even sound for audience. If not, I would consider to get the 2nd 812 mounted on ceiling at the middle area for the rear of the auditorium. Do you know the coverage max distance of F1 with SPL varying figures?Read More...

@Gsharp9 alas yes. However, the plus side is the Model 2 has a much smaller footprint, is more portable since it weighs less and is easier to carry, and the sound dispersion from the speaker array is much improved. Since the Classic or Model 1 had a mixer built into the base, the model 2 will in all likelihood require you to obtain a mixer. The T1 or T4/8S will work great, but so will a myriad of other mixer choices. For example, I use a Yamaha MG series mixer that sounds great through the...Read More...

Hi Gsharp9, Thank you for joining the Bose Portable PA Community. I'm glad you're here. Congratulations. Did you get a T1 or T4S/T8S? Bose has not said you need a T1 to reach the intended performance of the B1 or B2. You DO need an L1 Model II or L1 Model 1S to get the intended result from a B2 though. The proprietary EQ for the B1 and B2 bass modules is in the System EQ for the Power Stands (L1 Model II and L1 Model 1S). The L1 Classic and L1 Model I do not support the B2. Note: You cannot...Read More...

Very interesting chat. Point is, the problem that the design of the L1 attempted to solve, really does work in my humble experience. The evenness of the sound projection and the fact that you hear exactly what your audience hears and what your band mates are playing, results in you playing so much better. That, along with the Bose quality sound, make the L1 essential for our style of acoustic music. I like to refer to it as the fourth band member of our trio. Thanks Clifford and the L1 Bose ...Read More...

i just got my L1 Compact and decided to go ahead and invest in the T1 (for $299 how could I not?!) the down fall of the T1 for me is the lack of channels. Two part question: 1: can I use the mic channel on the L1 in coordination with the T1? compact or 1s B1

Hi I need some advice and comments. I play and sing as a solo act, I run a MIDI sequencer into a Roland Integra7 and JV880 and I play guitar into a guitar amp. I play the tracks into a Mackie 1402 and output that into a stereo Caudio 1200 Watt amp driving a pair of Celestion SR1 8 Ohm each. Hi Dylan, Thanks for writing. I'm sorry you're having a problem with the B2 dropping out. Thank you for the detailed report. I understand, it's disappointing to have things sound good and then have the low end drop out and bad. This isn't normal or expected behavior related to power conditions. It sounds like you have a problem with the L1 Model II Power Stand (most likely) or the B2 (unlikely). From what you've told us, this isn't related to your setup or the environment. Which L1(s) best for this situation?

Hi-end bar, adjacent to restaurant. Jazz trio (+) as house band, semi-permanat, on very small stage. Could not fit baby grand, so will be using Roland FP90 or similar, small drum kit (16 or 18" bass) with single overhead mic, upright bass w/pickup. Occasional vocalist and or horn will be squeezed in, so 1-2 extra mic channels. Plan to use Bose 8-channel Tone Master. Question is, which L1? Thanks all, especially ST. Sounds like the integrator's advice - one L1-II plus a B2 - gets pretty good consensus here. This gig doesn't get going until early next year. Hey ST, Yes I'm doing great! The L1 has seriously changed my musical life! Went from a pair of EV ELX115P speakers at just around 70 lbs each with a 12 channel Soundcraft mixer in a road case. Tonite's gig = Full band with 2 Compacts

I play in a 5-piece blues band. We normally use an L1M2, but decided to experiment with two Compacts. We had the M2 on standby, just in case. We played on an outdoor stage at a bar/restaurant right on Lake Huron in Michigan. We played there earlier this summer with the M2, but our drummer said he had a hard time hearing himself and the whole mix well. He normally sits close to the L1. So we decided to try and use 2 Compacts, one on either side of the stage. It worked like a charm. We were...Read More...
