Hi John Power, Thinking about most of my gear. The power switch is usually located near the AC Power connection. Most of the time that's on the back of the device. I rarely turn my gear off in the middle of a session. When changing instruments or mics, I turn down the channel volume control instead of turning off the power. Would that work for you? ATTN L1 Compact Users

Hi All, We know there a lot of L1 Compact users on the forum and we wanted to get a better understanding of the effects and processing that you use with the system. For example, Are you using the T1 or just the L1 Compact by itself? Please reply to this post with a description of your rig. We would love to see pictures and understand the effects and mixing options that are most important to you. Looking forward to your participation. Thanks CraigRead More...
Hi Tom, Just an afterthought. In the Compact Owner's Guide there is a reference to using the extensions on page 5. As this has caused discussions and uncertainty in the past I'll mention it here. "Note: The two L1® Compact Extensions are identical to each other. Either one can be used on the top or bottom, but if one extension is used, both must be used". There is no need to use both extensions. You can use 1, 2 or none to satisfy your particular needs in different situations. Hope that...Read More...

Paul Schaefer's L1 Set Up

Today I had the privilege of visiting the David Letterman set and learning more about how Paul Schaefer is using the L1 Classic that you have seen beside him for years. The system is fed by a sub-mix of all of Paul’s keys and synths enabling him to hear himself clearly on stage. The band also has an in-ear monitor mix which enables them to talk among themselves and listen to songs as David Letterman is interviewing guests. There is also a printer attached to the laptop so they can print...Read More...

Creative L1 Compact Uses

Ok so it has been over a year since the release of the L1® Compact system and we continue to hear stories about the product being used from everything from military services to fitness classes. L1 Benefits Statement

Ken-at-Bose
Hello Everyone, We wrote this before we introduced our new approach to live music amplification. These words appear on many of the cartons in the L1 family of products. We thought it would be good to repeat these words here.Read More...
This is an example of some of the old "Gems" which are turning up since the introduction of the new forum software. The words are as true now as they were then. Here's an example. My wife had a birthday party in January and I set up the Compact+T1 so that I could play easily for our guests and be heard anywhere in our living room which is L-shaped and about 50m2. Due to illnesses and bad weather forecast (snow) the party wasn't too big an affair and I could have played without amplification.Read More...

L1 Compact/T4S setup question with 3 guitars

My combo has an accordion, a stand up bass and me. We play songs that require a nylon string acoustic (latin stuff); a steel string acoustic (60s stuff) and my hollow body electric (standards). I also need 2 mics and my looper connected. Rather than having to re-set the ToneMatch for each guitar every time I change them, can I just set a custom "scene" for each one to speed up process. Of course the mic and looper settings will remain unchanged.Read More...

L1 Model II or two L1 Compacts for this unusual venue: Spoilt for choice!!

Hi gang This may seem a pretty daft question but it has actually got me in mixed minds so I am putting it out there to gauge how you guys would do it.... I am doing a gig in a village hall on Saturday, I've been to look at the hall because lets face it, these old village halls are renowned for dodgy electrics and access etc, but this one is pretty smart as it goes. This is my dilemma.... It is an odd shaped room, I have posted a picture of the hall to give an example, the stage is in the far...Read More...
Interesting ideas here. Of course we can suggest all day, but the proof is in what actually works. So we’d love to hear what you wind up doing and how it went. I will say I’ve used the S1 along with my L1M2 2 B1s where the room was a L shape. Pointing the L1 down the larger part of the L and the S1 off to the side point at 90 degrees to the L1. That area was smaller so the S1 was plenty of sound for that section. I ran a XLR aux out from my mixer to the S1 and ran it on battery. Just...Read More...

Selection of a Mixer

Hi, pjlloyd2. Thanks for the information you provided. A big factor is whether or not you need or want to run stereo and for that question - the size of the audience area matters - a lot. In an intimate setting, depending on the layout of the room, and placement of the stage Most of the audience is in front of the L1 Compacts In a rectangular space, (e.g., 30 x 30 feet or 10 x 10 meters) You might be able to recreate a stereo image for most of the listeners. The listeners on the sides of the...Read More...

L1 Model 1S with third party mixer

I currently run 2 powered speakers through a mixing desk and need at least 8 inputs, we work as a 2 pce and 3 pce and i run my guitar straight thru the mixer. we run backing tracks that are in stereo. does the L1 split those signals at all or does it take our stereo mix and make it all mono. Hi, BrettM. Welcome to the Bose Portable PA Community. Thank you for joining us. I'll assume you're getting an L1 Model 1S with a B2 bass module (or B1 bass module). The Input Panel looks like this. Boss Acoustic Singer Pro Amplifier through an L1M2

Hi, I've been playing through a buddy's Boss Acoustic Singer Pro and have been thinking of pickin' one up. If I wanted the sound of this amp combined with the dispersion of the L1M2B2 for my larger gigs...could I simply plug the Boss, post effects into the Bose and presto?!? Hi Willy Martin, The headphone out jack is an unbalanced stereo signal. All the inputs on the T4S are balanced mono. These two signal formats are incompatible. If you connect a stereo signal to a balanced input, you may hear very little, or just effects with none of the original signal. A balanced input will take the left and right signals from a stereo source and combine them with reversed polarity (this is how balanced connections work). The result is sounds that are panned in the center...Read More...

Hi, I am a singer in NJ performing with backing tracks on an L1 Model 2. I usually use a Sennheiser wireless mic system (EW 135 Series). I changed the capsule from an E 835 to an E 935 cardioid mic and it was a big improvement. My question is I want to order another one for my other Sennheiser wireless system (same model) but I see Sennheiser makes an e 945 Super cardiod capsule. Would a super-cardioid mic be better or worse to use with a Bose L1 Model 2 system or should I stick with the e...Read More...
Sam, Well, sure, any time you point any mic directly at a speaker there's a high likelihood it's going to feed back. If we're talking about what happens when you point a mic at a speaker, it doesn't matter what sort of pattern you're talking about. That's why in conventional systems you have the speakers in front of you and use monitors for the musicians to hear, and place the monitors appropriately for the type of mic you're using (cardioid behind, super/hypercardioid off to the sides. In...Read More...

I am the owner of two L1 Classic systems. I'm still using them routinely. I've been looking at the L1 Model II and the F1 systems as replacements. Hi Pete, I checked with Bose Support in the UK. First, if the unit is under two years old, it should still be in warranty. Even if it is out of warranty, they can service your L1 Model II power stand for a fixed fee and that comes with a one-year warranty. I hope that would be less expensive than replacing the unit with something else. I hope that helps. STRead More...

Yes, you can run a 1/4" balanced (TRS) or unbalanced (TS) cable from your M-Audio output to the L1-C Channel 2 (caveat: limit unbalanced cables, including RCA cables, to 30' max). Just make sure you set it to Line Input so the Tonematch isn't set for a guitar. JeffRead More...

T4S varying % setting on global reverb setting during performance

Three x vocal mics and one guitar through T4S mixer into 2 x L1 Compacts. The 3 mic channels use a global reverb setting so that the reverb can be muted using a single button push to allow any vocalist to make announcements between numbers. Thanks for the rapid response ST. Great. Yes we're operating on the latest update. Don't think it's the reset due to changing reverb type as sometimes we find it at 80% or some other random number.
