Hi Tom, Just an afterthought. In the Compact Owner's Guide there is a reference to using the extensions on page 5. As this has caused discussions and uncertainty in the past I'll mention it here. "Note: The two L1® Compact Extensions are identical to each other. Either one can be used on the top or bottom, but if one extension is used, both must be used". There is no need to use both extensions. You can use 1, 2 or none to satisfy your particular needs in different situations. Hope that...Read More...

Paul Schaefer's L1 Set Up

Today I had the privilege of visiting the David Letterman set and learning more about how Paul Schaefer is using the L1 Classic that you have seen beside him for years. The system is fed by a sub-mix of all of Paul’s keys and synths enabling him to hear himself clearly on stage. The band also has an in-ear monitor mix which enables them to talk among themselves and listen to songs as David Letterman is interviewing guests. There is also a printer attached to the laptop so they can print...Read More...

L1 Benefits Statement

Ken-at-Bose
Hello Everyone, We wrote this before we introduced our new approach to live music amplification. These words appear on many of the cartons in the L1 family of products. We thought it would be good to repeat these words here.Read More...
This is an example of some of the old "Gems" which are turning up since the introduction of the new forum software. The words are as true now as they were then. Here's an example. My wife had a birthday party in January and I set up the Compact+T1 so that I could play easily for our guests and be heard anywhere in our living room which is L-shaped and about 50m2. Due to illnesses and bad weather forecast (snow) the party wasn't too big an affair and I could have played without amplification.Read More...

Hi, jos, Welcome to the Bose Portable PA Community. Thanks for your question. The L1 Compact was engineered to deliver maximum sound with minimum weight. The L1 Compact extensions are engineered to bear the weight of the speaker array at the top and are not intended to support anything else. Attaching non-Bose engineered accessories can make the system unstable. L1 in Gymnasium

Hey there. I just got a L1 compact last week. And used it the next day for a small funeral. . It worked great. I'm using it with a Makie mixer. I play in a guitar duo. We even had to turn it down, (It was a funeral) very impressed My partner loved how natural our guitars sounded. And she heard every note. Running T8s in Mono with Single L1 M2

Folks, I am new to the forum so here goes my first post. When I use my L1 M2 with my new T8s how do I run in Mono?Do I simply just Pan everything to the Right channel (labelled Mono) and use that as the single output to the L1. Does using 1/4" or XLR outputs make a difference or are the output levels same on both?Read More...
Hi Kruiser, For mono output, you can do as you suggest, which is what the Wiki suggests. If you don't pan anything, it's possible that the R or L output would have lower signal than if you pan hard R and use the R output. Maybe that's why the Wiki suggests panning to one side.Read More...

I certainly appreciate all the input from everyone. I kind of figured the Bose T1 was going to be the better alternative to get the best sound out of the L1Compact. Using L1 Model 2 speakers in L1 Model 1S power base.

Got a question for you Bose techs but I think I know the answer. Can the 24 speaker cylindrical arrays from the L1 model 2 be used in the L1 Model 1S power stand. Obviously the sticks will physically fit the stand but I bet the speaker impedance will not match the output of the amp causing eventual failure. Am I,correct? Thank you.Read More...
Hi pixmixr, If I understand what you've told us, you have two Cylindrical Radiator®s for the L1 Model II. You don't have the correct Cylindrical Radiator® for an L1 Model 1S. If you repair the power stand for the L1 Model 1S, the Cylindrical Radiator®s you have will not be compatible with it. That's why I suggested getting a power stand for an L1 Model II, if possible. iPad to L1 Model II Analog Input on the power stand

Hi Guys Can anybody tell me if there is any benefit from connecting my iPad running my backing tracks direct to the input on my L1 M2 power stand? At the moment I am using a splitter cable which goes from a stereo mini jack to two mono jacks into channel 4/5 of my T1 but I have found that some tracks seem to lose impact and audio appears missing, probably due to the stereo to mono conversion. One of the tracks is an Everly song where the harmony is present in mono but once amplified through...Read More...
Using the above cable I'd set the ipad to stereo and let the Bose T1 do the summing... I have a T1 and T4S and switch the ipad to the appropriate output depending on which T unit I'm using. Popping Noises from L1 compact loudspeaker array

Greetings. I am a musician and have used the Bose L1 compact for gigs since around 2010. Lately I have getting popping noises from the loudspeaker array as soon as I plug it in, whether the volume is turned on or not. The sound level fluctuates of it's own free will and is sometimes audible to the audience. I'm not sure if this is an internal malfunction or something that can be fixed by cleaning it with rubbing alcohol or whatnot. Has anyone else had this problem. and what was your...Read More...
Hi Wayne Walters, Welcome to the Bose Portable PA Community. If you hear the popping noises When you have nothing connected to the inputs Regardless of the position of the volume and tone controls and rotating all the controls up and down doesn't make a difference And you hear this noise in different locations (different venues, different AC power sources) If you are using a power bar - connect directly to the wall to eliminate that as a possible source I'm sorry, but your L1 Compace will...Read More...

Running into limitations with L1 II

Hey all. I've been DJ'ing for a few years now, and I'm reaching some limits. I DJ exclusively pre-recorded music, not live performances. For background I have one T1, two L1 II, and two B2. I notice that I'm having trouble really filling out larger rooms and outdoor spaces. B1 questions

ST- slightly off topic, but doesn't the L1 with two B1s connected run half the power as opposed to one B1 connected? Just made me think from what you said above. L1 runs 250rms watts to one B1 L1 runs 125rms to each B1 when two are connected, in addition to running a -6db on the signal sent to the B1. You can move this to another thread if needed. I actually did some weird testing this past weekend (by accident) as I was hooking up additional B1s. One B1 was louder most of the times compared...Read More...

L1 stick not working

Has anybody had the problem of the L1 sub working but not the stick. I use two L1 Model 2 for front of house and a L1 Model 1 in the back for a monitor playing acoustic music. The Model 1 has now done this twice and just had one of,the Model 2 do it. Checked obvious things such as the stick plug on both the base and the stick. Those are fine. Hi pixmixr, Welcome to the Bose Portable PA Community. How to connect 2 L1 Portable PA systems together with SoundTouch wireless adapters

Is it possible to connect the PA (Mic) portion of two L1's together using the sound touch wireless adapter? I've been able to connect two L1's together through wifi/blue tooth to play music from my phone. But the MIC's only transmitt from the L1 they are connected to. I'd like the two connected MIc's to come out of both L1's simultaneously if possible. I'd rather not have to add a mixer and wires to get both Mic's to come out of both L1's simultaneously.Read More...
Hi Joe L, Thank you for joining the Bose Portable PA Community. Welcome. Short answer: No The Bose SoundTouch Wireless adapter can function as a Bluetooth receiver, but not a transmitter. Even if it could act as a transmitter, Bluetooth is too slow to use for live sound (e.g., microphones). You'll probably need a mixer and either a wired or wireless connection from the mixer to the L1®s. What model L1 systems do you have? (L1 Compact, L1 Model II, L1 Model 1S)? Thanks, STRead More...

Replacement Gig Bags

Hi, my husband and I purchased the pro L1 model II about three years ago and we have been thrilled with the sound and versatility. L1 Model II - Add B1 or B2 or F1?

Hi - We are trying to get more power and volume out of our L1 Model II. If we add a B1 or B2 will that simply give us more bass and volume or both? Will we lose some high end performance? We like the current sound quality but would like everything to be louder - (4) Mics Vocals only. The current L1 only has one B1 connected and we want more power and volume. Also, if we add 1 or 2 F1's would that be a good way to go? How would you connect the F1's to the L1? We have (2) T1's. The thinking...Read More...

Using L1 For Vocals Only - 4 Mics

Hi - we are a band. We have three guitars, bass, drums and keyboards. We use the L1 for 4 vocal inputs only and match amp levels to the drums and L1. We like it very much. It keeps us from playing too loud in a smaller space. However, since we have 4 mics we use 2 T1's . The second is plugged in 4/5 of the first T1. First of all - is that the best (preferred or most balanced) input scheme for 4 mic for vocals? Also, sometimes we have to increase the volume of the L1 and we are having...Read More...

Adding my new L1 compact to my T1 and L1 Model 2 Setup

Hi folks. Proud owner as of this evening of my first L1 Compact. Having used the Model 2 for years and being so happy with it, I decided to get a compact as well for several reasons. Number one I have a weekend restaurant residency where it's very background music, and I'm lucky if I push my Model 2 to over a quarter on volume - the response has been fantastic. Mic feedback

We are a duo of guitar and bass, both sing and we use backing tracks. We have been using some floor monitors to better be able to hear the backing tracks. These are powered monitors one of which is a Bose S1. Both are fed/looped out of the L1 main 1/4" output. I've also tried a mic stand mounted monitor. We're both using Sure SM58's but are having great difficulty with mic feed back. We try the usual; reduce treble and volume, reposition the monitors, move the L1 compact back further.Read More...
Good idea with the donation. We don't use them any more. Since L1 Model II we find that we manage very well and aren't as cut-off from each other. Should we find ourselves playing through someone else's PA and they were available, we still have our in-ear buds which are pretty good. Figures ... but for many things I wouldn't have thought that the security of such systems is high enough. But ... let's try not to derail the thread too much with this ... although I quite enjoy such discussions.Read More...

Help: L1 Model II died on a gig

My L1 II just died at a gig last weekend. Plugged into surge protectors, in a hall I've played before, it just ... stopped.
