Bose L1 Model 11 and Tyros 3

The Tyros sounds fantastic through this system but I had a problem getting the best sound quality from the piano Voices. They always sound very good through the tyros onboard speakers but it all seems to get a bit woolly and lacking in quality and clarity through the Bose. I am certain that this can be sorted because the quality of the bose is very evident to all. I am using an independant warrior mixer because so far finding it vey confusing through the T1. Has anyone got any thoughts about...Read More...
Usually, the left output mixes left and right. You can proof it. Select an organ voice, where the rotary effect in fast speed sounds good on Tyros speakers ans horrible on a single Bose. Set the Tyros speakers off, connect the left and then the right output to Bose, you may notice, that with the left output, it sounds horrible, with the right ok. This shows, that the left output mixes both stereo channels. Back to the piano. It has a wonderful stereo sound that is not mono compatible. What...Read More...

Suggestions on new portable keyboard

Greetings all! I play keys for my son mainly country/pop/Christian. I currently have a Roland RD 700 GX that I like however it is too heavy! I also have an RD 64 that is portable but limited (can't split it either). Recently injured my back at work, and I am still recuperating. Any suggestions for new light-weight keys with piano action, splittable board, and 76 or greater keys that will sound "good" i.e. mono voices with my L1 M2 ? Thanks.Read More...
What about Roland FP 30? 88 key, weighted like a real piano. The only limit is the using as MIDI master keyboard to control tone generators like Integra. FP30 has split and is about 14 kgs. I tried, how it would sound mono, by taking a demo and converting it into mono and it seems, that the piano sound has only a lack in ambience, but sounds not really different. Not the effect, we "like" on some Roland pianos, where "mono" turns the concert grand in an inexpensive upright piano.Read More...

tyros4 through bose compact

Hi guys. Newbie to this site so please be kind lol. Been using my setup for about 9 months as a care home entertainer. Keys and vocals. Just trying to get the best sound possible. My issue seems to be that I appear to need the compact volume quite high, introducing "hiss" Frome the compact (which isn't that noticeable when playing)to get the necessary volume. The volume is about 2 o'clock, but most people seem to run this at 12!. I also need to run my tyros 4 volume lower than 9 o'clock (7...Read More...
Pretty strange. My Bose L1 compact tolerates it, when I set the Tyros’s volume knob to 75 % and set the L1’s volume knob lower, no distortion and less hiss. Ok, wouldn’t be possible, when you use the Tyros 4 speakers as monitors, but I think, there’s no need, that it have to look, like the picture in the brochure. When the L1 stands beside me, I can hear enough. Do you use the Line Out or the Aux Out? Aux Out have a fixed level, in most cases too high. How did you set the Master Equalizer...Read More...

New to forum and Bose L1 a number of ?'s

Hi everyone, I play a Kawai MP7 out of a motion sound KPSN500 amp and a Hammond SK2 out of either a motion sound amp and vent or my Hammond 3300. I need to drop some weight. We usually play to 150 or less outdoor gigs. Could I be happy with a Bose L1 system for both keyboards? If so just so I don't want upgrade later on, what present system should I select? Also wondering if the tone unit would accommodate these keyboards and finally, are there any new downloads that would be appropriate? I...Read More...

Sonic "Hole" @ 6300 Hz per the Tech Data Sheet?

As great as my L1M2 wB2 units sound, I still hear something "odd", perhaps lacking in the middle octave notes (the octave including "middle C" and A 440). I was analyzing the Technical Data Sheet, especially the Polar Plots and Beamwidth charts. There seems to be something odd going on around 6300 Hz, to the point where it seems that 6300 Hz can really only be heard at 0 degrees! Now I know that the "A" above middle C is 440 Hz, but there are substantial harmonics on piano notes. I'm...Read More...
I'll sure give you an "E" for effort, thanks for hanging with this. But in all cases, I experimented with both a stereo patch (Full Concert Grand on a Motif XS88) and the mono patch (Monaural Grand MW on the same Motif XS88). Furthermore, in each separate case, I experimented with using the stereo outs, and then only the "Left / Mono" out. Ugh, no difference. Just tried it again, and it definitely has something to do with the frequency response of the L1ModelII versus a normal 3-way speaker...Read More...

Roland RD800

snakehips
Hi there ! Anyone yet tried the new Roland RD800 with a Bose L1 ? I tried out the RD800 on Friday and was quite impressed BUT I didn't get to try it through a Bose L1 system. The RD800 has lots of pianos on it - and only 006 patch on the list is "Concert Grand MONO". They also have "RD700NX Concert Grand MONO" The mono RD800 concert grand sounded pretty good - and fairly close in sound (but no stereo depth) to their flagship main concert grand sound. I'm just working on seeing if I can sell...Read More...
Hi again ! Why are you plugging the L&R outputs of the piano into Channel 4/5 ? You are not getting stereo, as the Bose L1 tower system is not a stereo system. In fact, unless I am not mistaken, it is not stereo, on purpose. You would need two L1 towers to get stereo - and that gets expensive ! If you read my original post again, I had already given up trying to get a decent sound with previous stereo keyboards, and any mono piano options/patches were much older type piano sounds. The...Read More...

Roland Piano and Tonematch Eq and set up

Please help!!! I have an RD 800 and the L1Mk2 B2. I use it predominantly for wedding ceremonies with a soloist. The problem I am having is that I can't get an overall piano sound that I like through the L1. I use the Concert Grand (1st preset on the RD) with a pad layered in behind. I connect the RD piano using two jacks - left and right into channels 4/5 on my Tonematch. I set my Tonematch on a flat eq preset. I've tried using general keys and tweaking the eq too but with no improvement. So...Read More...
Hi Patrick, I am using a Yamaha S70XS (with piano sounds) , so I would imagine the principles are the same. Here are my suggestions - (1) experiment using just a single cable from the L/mono output, so that the Roland sums any stereo signal (although I have found that cabling the way you have with L and R and then letting the Tonematch sum the stereo produces a much better sound); (2) check that you are using mono cables on each channel, not stereo cables (3) set the master volume on the...Read More...

Motif XS88 in Stereo using two (2) L1 Model II with B2's

Folks: I've been reading for months about the supposed "phase cancellation" of stereo, etc. I decided to buy anyways, and am using two (2) L1 Model II's with B2's, and they sound GREAT in my studio and GREAT playing out live. Seems to me to be "much ado about nothing". I love the stereo, and it's day and night better compared to mono. YMMV. My band loves it, and the audience loves it. I don't know what else to say, and don't know what else matters!Read More...
Hi cassdad, I am glad that the L1 systems are working better than you expected. The phase cancellation issue is real, but sometimes you get it, sometimes not...it depends on the room, evidently. Just recently, I was able to test my two L1 Model IIs for just this issue: Gig 1- Jan 2015: 3 Hip Hop groups, 1 to 3 mics for performers, back tracks from Laptop - using a Single L1, the sound was excellent, as usual. Gig 2: same groups, using two L1 systems. They had asked for more volume by way of...Read More...

The Monitor Problem

I purchased the L1 Model II with tone match/subwoofer back in 12/2010 I love it. Most of my work is as a solo piano player. Many times I don't have an acoustic piano at a venue and so I need to use my Roland RD700NX. It's a great keyboard that had one major flawed shared by many pro level keyboards. No speakers.... no sound coming from in front of me.... the player. I have been playing piano for 43 years...the last 25+ professionally. I have tried everything to get something decent to play...Read More...

Tonematch and Keyboard

I have a Yamaha MO8X Keyboard. It has a L/mono out and a right out. If I connect both outs to the 4/5 channel of the T1, that will sum the signal to mono. If I connect just the left/mono to channel 4, is that essentially the same thing? MarkRead More...
Thanks for the fast reply. I just had a chance to compare. I'm using the Grand Piano patch The only difference I hear is the volume is slightly louder with MOx8 connected to channel 5/6 of T1. I used the general keyboard setting. I then plugged directly into a QSC 10 powered speaker and got the same results using mono out and then left/right out. I then connected two 1/4 to RCA to the QSC 10. It appeared to be brighter sounding, definitely louder, so I'm not sure if the increase in volume...Read More...

Wireless L1 Setup

I am using a Tyros 4 and Tyros 1 output to a mixer and have purchased 2 L1 1S B2 setups (for stereo). Instead of positioning the L1's behind me (space restrictions), I want to place them on opposite area of room. I am considering using an stereo FM transmitter and using 2 FM receivers, ipod type, (1 on each L1) and using the left or right (opposite the other) on each L1 thereby providing wireless stereo connection. Anyone have more suggestions? wb2002Read More...

Advice on system to purchase

Hi there, I have a Nord Piano 2 and am about to start gigging. I play almost exclusively using an acoustic piano sound - on the very rare occasion I use a pad. No vocals. I play jazz piano. So I'm trying to decide between a pair of Bose L1 Compacts (for stereo sound from the piano) or a pair of QSC K10's. The music stores around me, unfortunately, don't have both in stock, only one or the other. So I'm unable to A/B them. I have tried them both and like the sound of both. My question is...Read More...

The problem of stereo keyboards into mono

When you sum a stereo source into a mono amp it causes some out of phase problems. If only there was some way to have the left channel go to the lower pole and the right channel to the upper pole... For example: My Yamaha P120 and P90 digital pianos have only stereo piano samples, there are no mono piano samples in the keyboard. When play theor stereo pianos through any mono amp the tone becomes thin, edgy and almost all attack. Other keyboards' stereo patches behave in a similar manner.Read More...
I tried this solution by A feelings on the floor productions on my Motif ES6 and it is wonderful for piano. I was so happy. ONly problem is I also use midi sequences I have done as backing track and they do not sound good at all. I don't know how to explain how they sound as I am not a technical guy. Seems like a phasing issue but not sure. So, is there anyway I could have the best of both worlds where solo piano and sequences would sound good. I was thinking, what about trying just delay of...Read More...

Recording on iPad4 question

I recently got an iPad4 and would like to record our duo. I'm using an L1 Mod.II with the Tonematch. Our vocals go into channel 1, and my Korg Pa1XPro arranger keyboard goes into channel 3. Plugging 2 keyboards into the L1 Model 1

We want to plug 2 keyboards into the L1 Mod.1. Currently we use a single keyboard to accompany the vocals in our duo. Advice sought on Casio PX-350

Hi Guys, looking for advice on couple things; 1) has anyone used a Casio PX-350 with Bose L1, how does it sound in mono, and do you have any advice on T1 settings that enhance the sound? 2) has anyone any experience with piano apps like Sampletank or iGrand Piano through the L1, do they sum to mono and how do they compare with AP sounds on GEM RP-X? All advice welcome. Thanks>Read More...

help with m 2 and dig piano sound

can anyone please give me a set up on the t1 that might resemble the awesome sound i get on my headphones I have the L1m 2 with 2 bass mods, i realize this isnt stereo but my cp33 is a great digital piano for my purposes, i do 85% on guitar during my shows the system rocks for that but my cp33 is really hurting in sounds qaulity thru the model 2, is getting say a roland for the other side of the stage a good option to provide a stereo effect? cant just fork over the big bucks for another...Read More...
I only use the L/mono output on the cp33 into a single channel (for me channel 2) with the general keys setting. Also be sure you have a high quality cable that is tip/sleeve only. A TRS (tip, ring, sleeve) cable will increase your phasing issues.Read More...

Digital Accordion: Roland FR-7x piano style

Model II Questions: Good all around sound, heavy bass to highs? B1 or B2

I am a keyboardist and a vocalist who performs with a group of Broadway stars as their accompanist. I am looking to purchase the Bose L1 Model 2 setup with the ToneMatch system, but I am looking for advice on a couple things: 1. Will this system provide me with a good all around sound, everything from heavy bass to great highs? 2. Which is the better choice: B1 (either 1 or 2) a single B2? I am currently using 2 EV speaker cabs with 15" and tweeter and a Crown power amp so I get some really...Read More...

Left Hand BASS and Keyboard EON15 Model 2 Bose

I am a full time musician. I am almost shocked to say that the G2 Eon 15 reproduces by ac bass patch on my Kurz keyboard the best. Best for the lower vloumes I play at. But the EON sounds not as beautiful as the Model 2 Bose in the ac PIANO area. The Bose goes lower than the EON, but the eon makes a just right shape to the bass tones. I have dealt with over a considerable amount of time. I also tried a few bass amps and I still prefer eon 15 for ac bass on keys! This seems to point to the...Read More...

L1 Model 2 and Yamaha S70XS

S70XS_user
I have been a member of the forum for 6 months now, and found it incredibly useful. The discussions on potential phasing problems with stereo piano though had me concluding that I was probably going to have to get two L1's to run full stereo as I do use piano voices a lot. Anyway, today I finally got to try out the L1M2 using my own Yamaha S70XS keyboard. First up, I just connected a single audio lead from the L/Mono output of the keyboard directly into the analog input of the power stand.Read More...
