Just for DJs & KJs

Just got my new L1's and four Bass bins in

Going to use them on Sunday(tomorrow) for my first gig. I have been all Mackie (srm450 and SR1521z's) and B52 for the past years. Any advice on settings...etc...would love some tips and tricks!Read More...
It's gonna take you a while to get used to it. I mean going from conventional speaker sound to clear sound. Took me about a month or so (and I have gigs every weekend). So how did it go?Read More...

Please Help Me Understand

I share a gig with another DJ/KJ. We alternate Saturday nights. He uses 15" Mackies with amp. Pretty much standard equipment. Volume too loud most of the time. I use my L1 compact and Tonematch at what I feel is a much lower volume. The venue is on the edge of a residential area. When I play the neighbors complain about the volume, but not when he plays. Not sure if I'm being singled out for whatever the reasons. I've even sent friends out to listen from the street and they say it is not...Read More...
Thanks guys. I had a feeling it was the clarity. Damn Bose and their awesome sound. That was a joke, just so nobody complains about it.Read More...

What power sources do you use....

For outdoor ceremonies where power is not available, I use the L1 Compact system with a Duracell DPP-600HD Powerpack (available through Amazon.com for under $140.00). The Powerpack will give me a comfortable 2.5 hours of play time with the following setup: 1 Bose® L1 Compact system 1 Bose® T1 ToneMatch audio engin 1 Sennheiser ew 100G wireless microphone system 1 MacBook Pro laptop 1 six-outlet power adapter For longer engagements at "no-power" locations, I use a Honeywell HW 2000i Portable...Read More...

Thank you Bose and all the great Bose users on the forum for making my Bose purchase easier and more confident. After doing all my research I finally put together the most fantastic state of the art sound system that money can but. I get nothing but compiments on how sleek the L1's look and how sweet they sound. JD the 8 B1's Rock!Read More...
Yeah the DC1's are sweet but I think they are discuntinued also. The rope barriers are the facilities. I did not ask for that. LED's are pretty loud for the eyes.Read More...

Which set up?

Hi all, I've been lurking for a while and now have a few questions... I've been to see the Bose systems in the flesh at CRS1 (cheers Clive!) and also at NADJ AGM. At the moment i have a Denon set up (2 x DNS 1200's, and a DNX120 mixer). i play a great variety of gigs from kids parties from 4 to 16, family parties, Weddings, Student university do's and some big corporate events. I'm looking to join the Bose crowd (small gathering!?) and am looking at what to actually buy. Do i buy L1 mk1's or...Read More...
Just a suggestion. Try renting both; L1's & 2's, see what works for you. L1's are more balanced with one mb1, the L2's require 2 mb1's because the sticks lack low to mid frequencies (but they are pleasure to carry). I moved from laptops and iPods to Techniques CD 1200's, richer sound, and still feel like old school. Cheers, MeHiRead More...

Top Stick Cutting Out

Top stick cutting in and out. Just started tonight. Swapped out both top and bottom with other L1, fine now. Had reseated other set twice. Very annoying. Suggestions?Read More...
The tops do cut on the L1s. This is due to circuitry problem in the powerstand, not in the tower. You'll get a new powerstand!! MeHiRead More...

Old School & New School sound mix

Power without the power. After 34 yrs of spinning and sound searching, I have the perfect solution to my own needs. I use 2 L1s, 4 MB1s, 2 MB4s and 2 out of 4 (vintage 1989) Accustimass Pro speakers for med to large gigs. The balance between the old speakers and the L1s is truly amazing, very band like, anywhere, anytime, just plug and play without having room or field audio worries. And the cool thing, it all fits neatly into a Jeep!! Cheers, MeHiRead More...

Thinking About Buying some L1's Model I's

I currently Dj with 2 QSC PLX 3402 Amps crossed over. I have 4 speakers- 2 Peavey sp15's for the highs and 2 Peavey SP118 subs for the lows. I Dj with two imac computers. How would I hook up 2 of the L1 Model I's to my amps/mixer? And.. can I hook up both of my computers through my mixer when using the L1's like I currently do with my Peaveys? I'm new to this Bose technology and I'm not too sure how it all works with these Bose L1 speakers. Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated.Read More...
yep, that's correct. The amps are in the base of the model 1's. Bass units plug into the base and the second bass unit gets daisy chained to the first. Very light and very easy.Read More...

I thought Bose stood behind their products.

Volume Increase Sensation?

In a small to medium size room with 60 to 70 people my Model II M2 is fine. For what ever reason I try to crank the volume from time to time. At these times there is plenty of reserve space. on the Master and Channel knobs. By increasing either control, I get a boost in "intensity" (for want of a better term), but no real boost in loudness. My question is what is that feeling of intesity or energy that the system generates? Thanks Edit M2→ Model II - System NamingRead More...

That "new" smell

OK, I've been running the L-1's for over 2 years now and they still have the "New electronics" smell. You know....the smell like something is getting hot and close to burning. Any idea when this might go away??? Being a EE, it makes me nervous like any minute i'm going to let out the "magic smoke" and everything goes silent.Read More...
Every weekend and sometimes 2 and three time a week. It's just weird that it doesn't want to go away. I just worry that all of a sudden FLAMES will pop out. LOLRead More...

Best Ever Set-Up for L1

thatweddingdj
I've always been jealous of the set-ups on the forum, but you'll to go some to beat this one. I am grateful to Richard in NZ for his great unit design. I spent way too much on it and it still needs some touches, but it looked great on the day. Thanks man. The location was Friar's Carse a Victorian home, now a hotel just outside Dumfries, Scotland. It has been raining for weeks here in Scotland but on the day, the sky cleared and the couple were able to get married by the river. Everything...Read More...
If you use a remote and crank the bass all the way up, you can get away with no sub for the ceremony. However for the sake of carrying a tiny box with short cable, you get the L1 sounding the way it should without compromise.Read More...

Adjusting zEQ 'Right: Master Out' with T1/USB/Output Stereo to 2 Model II's

Here's a question (I'm sure ST could answer this): I'm running 2 Model II's out of the T1 Master & Aux Outputs in Stereo as described by ST at the bose/wiki/index here: T1 ToneMatch® Audio Engine/USB/Output Stereo to Two L1®s http://toonz.ca/bose/wiki/inde...t_Stereo_to_Two_L1®s Thanks for the excellent tutorial ST! This setup works good & sounds great. I can adjust the zEQ Low/Mid/High for the Left channel 4/5 coming out of the Aux Output, but I don't see any way to adjust the Right...Read More...
Hi adaboy, Just have a second. Glad you got things working. Yes, the only way to control EQ from a USB source is if you route it through Channel 4/5. Gotta run. STRead More...

Concern for DJ application

atlantadj
I have ready many post and everyone seems happy, however I have some concerns. Currently I use 802 model III and 502BP's and love it. My concern is that currently, say for dinner, I face the 802 outward, turn the volume down and play light music. For dancing the turn the 802's inward toward the dance floor and turn up the volume. Because of the smaller angle of dispersion, guests on the dance floor are happy with the thumping music and guests having conversations at their tables are happy...Read More...
I have used a SINGLE L1 MII (its all I had - the amp driving the stack of 4 802s died) and 2 B1 to drive a "dance party" with over 300 people. First - the L1 Model II can get loud. Not "stadium" loud, but certainly "bar/cub" loud. What you will find is that you will run LOWER overall volume but the coverage will appear to be "even" over a much greater expanse of area. Since the dancers don't notice a "drop off" as they move across they floor - the think its "loud". The diners, are not...Read More...

Can 2 compacts handle a 200 event wedding

If used with a external crossover and a big enough subwoofer (non bose) can 2 compacts handle a 200 guest wedding? My most basic wedding setup is 2 12" yamaha's along with a 18" tapco sub, if i need to service events with more than 200 events I have bigger setupsRead More...

L1 Compact + DJ Mixer -- Input Options

Hi Everyone - I've been looking at the L1 Compact, but I'm curious about something. After using the SRM450's for ages, I'm used to my balanced out XLR from mixer to speaker - no need for a DI box. Looking at the Compact setup, I've noticed that there are a variety of inputs -- and the ToneMatch is on the Ch1 Mic (XLR) and 1/4" on the Ch2 instrument/line side. My question is -- can I use the balanced output from my DJ mixer to run in the Mic (or Inst) port with minimal degrading or sound...Read More...
I do the exact thing you're asking when I need a little more coverage with no problems. Truth is with that many people the Model II would probably be fine alone. But it does sound great either way.Read More...

quick fix for channel 2 L1 Compact EQ?

Starvin
Hi all A friend of mine recently purchased an L1 Compact. His daughters( 14 and 12 )sing Karaoke. (Quite well I might add). He is using an IPod for the Karaoke tracks. His problem is that his backup tunes are very bass heavy and there is no bass or treble control for channel 2 on the compact. The girls are saving their money for a T1 but for now I was wondering if anyone had a cheap remedy for this problem. Thanks in advance Starvin Edit: subject line previously: quick fix for channel 2 L1C...Read More...

Controlling L1 Compact - What are the proper levels?

I caught another posting on how the L1 Compact is essentially at full master gain, with Chan 1 and Chan 2 not needing to be turned up that high. I am attempting to switch from a Mackie 450v2 setup. The entire 450 and 350 line has served me well ever since they came out, but I am ready for a little more visual "wow" -- and after one live gig, I can say that I got that already. Unfortunately, I was having a problem keeping the unit from clipping - or at least from flickering a red light,...Read More...
