@andrewdouglas , I get your opinion about "eating the mic". That holds true with an SM58 and similar mic's. That's why I prefer mic's like the Sennheizer E935 that have enough gain before feedback that I can sing several inches away from the mic with greater frequency bandwidth and no proximity effect. Decades ago my lead vocalist was female. One night after a 4 hour gig, I filled the kitchen sink with extremely hot tap water and dish soap. My vocalist, Stacey, had clogged the screen balls...Read More...

Need a Sketch? - Stage Layouts with The Sketcher

ST
If you would like some help planning your stage layout, or just share something you are doing that works, please try The Sketcher . How it works: You can see it in action: The Sketcher Movie or It is probably just as fast to try it . In its current incarnation, you drag items from the palette of instruments onto a stage area. You can add notes (a good idea) for things that don't fit into the picture. When you save your changes, I will take what you have done and turn it into a regular image...Read More...

You can use the numbers or give me some names to go with the numbers. Please tell me: Who is in the duo? Who is in the trio? Do any of you gig solo? Thanks, STRead More...

Bluegrass band consists of 4 vocals, 4 instruments

ST
Hi Highway 31 Thanks for using the Sketcher. Here is your Sketch. Our bluegrass band consists of 4 vocals, 4 instruments and typically use two AT4033 condensor mics and one Shure M57 for the banjo player who doesn't sing. Our other option is Shure M58 for each singer and 4 Shure M57s for the instruments. To detail the current sketch, Guitar and mando plus vocals - left mic Bass and two vocals - right mic. We play a variety of venues from large auditoriums to BBQ joints. The problems we have...Read More...
I've worked similar setups. I'm assuming you're talking L1/L2? If so, I would move the unit off to either front/side, and lower the gain on the 4033 as much as possible while still eating the mics. Accept you'll be getting cozy but its better than cranking up the gain and starting the awful feedback loop. Don't feel bad if you need to plug in. The purist may not go along but being heard is as important. Good luck, JamesRead More...
