Adrian Belew discusses the L1's

In a recent interview with allaboutjazz.com Adrian Belew discusses his current live guitar rig which includes a pair of Bose L1 Model II Double Bass Packages. Here is an excerpt from the article: "I add the Line 6 in for extra sounds and overdubbing sounds live, and then this Bose setup, which is absolutely fantastic. I love this setup, called the Bose L1, these columns that you see with the bass cabinets on each side, those are for the high fidelity things that I want to use, like my...Read More...

Guitar Hanger Available for L1

Kyle-at-Bose
A new accessory is available for the Bose L1 Cylindrical Radiator(r) loudspeaker from Wallacher Guitar Hangers. If you are a guitar player and sick of carrying guitar stands to the gig and rehearsal, this may be for you. The Wallacher WPAS1 hanger mounts easily to the back of the L1 loudspeaker using a screwdriver. Assembly is a one-time job: While the L1 is disassembled and on the floor, remove the two phillips-head screws that attaches the bayonet to the upper L1 loudspeaker. On the guitar...Read More...

Martin GPCPA presets?

Powered up new T1 to discover the only Martin guitar presets were for Martin D-18 and D-28. I use a Martin GPCPA most of the time when playing through the L1. Checked the downloads and noticed no Martin downloads for the T1 presets. Any suggestions for the GPCPA?Read More...
Thanks. That is helpful. I think I thought I would find a long list of various models and was not sure what to try when mine was not listed. When playing acoustic through any system I am usually disappointed in the amplified sound so I was hoping it would say "Martin GPCPA" and give me a solid beginning point. I will try the selection you suggested and most of the other guitar presets and see what jumps out at me. Equalizing the amplified sound is not my thing. I don't want much, I just want...Read More...

Playing Acoustic Guitar - amplified

Hi Tony (and ST), Thanks again for the in-depth and detailed dialog. I wanted to raise one other thought for consideration in this discussion. Consider -- for just a moment -- the use of distorted electric ("rock") guitar sound/playing. (Based on the level of this discussion, I am pretty certain that both of you have played a "dirty" electric guitar at various times in your musical endeavors). With regards to such a type of guitar-playing, the amplification provides distortion and...Read More...

Tom Anderson Crowdster

Matt Wahl
Hi Friends! I want to share a bit about a new guitar I'm trying out. The Tom Anderson Crowdster has been around a while. I've had my eye on one for many years. A couple of weeks ago my son and I went and saw a friend play and he's been using one for probably 8 years or so. I really liked what I heard from his tone. It would not win any "the ultimate natural, acoustic guitar tone" awards and I think that is part of the attraction. For years, like a lot of fellow guitar nerds, I have chased...Read More...

T1 users with CF guitar - setting suggestions?

Hello, T1 owner (L1s) with a new toy - first for me Carbon Fiber guitar; in this case Journey RT660. Am looking for guidance from other CF guitar owners regarding T1 settings used / suggested. What has worked for you, particularly with smaller body size CF guitars?Read More...
The presets are just custom EQ curves although with the zEQ innovation the Lo, Mid and Hi control frequency bands change depending on the source type, i.e. LO will affect a higher frequency band in a violin preset than it will in a guitar preset. For me at least, the subtle differences are important for my playing; the happier I am with my sound and tones, the better my performances. So, even if my audience doesn't hear the subtle differences, they do benefit from my better performance... MarkRead More...

Baggs Anthem is the Holy Grail of acoustic tone!!

I just had the Anthem SL installed in my 14 Yr. Old Taylor 310 this weekend and WOW! I was so completely blown away! Especially after having used a Fishman Pro-Neo-D02 Humbucker (sound whole type)as an interim pickup while I was researching and figuring out what I wanted on a more permenant basis. And the kicker is that I've only just begun to dial things in since I had only time to plug and play for rehearsal yesterday. So I just set my T1 to flat with no eq. and still it was the best sound...Read More...

I know this is an old thread, but thought I'd comment on an unanswered question... Re: Adding vocal effects -- When I used a TC Helicon Harmony GTX, I would plug the guitar into a channel of the T1, then feed the dry (pre-FX) signal via the Aux Out of the T1 to the Guitar input of the TC Harmony unit to drive the vocal harmonies. Worked great. I'm now using the TC Play Acoustic, and plug both guitar and vocal mic into it and feed the processed signal into the T1. The T1 Preset on both...Read More...

I enjoyed the article. Thanks for that. Regarding pick-up systems for acoustic guitars. There are many professionals out there today using multiple systems and mixing them together. That way they get the most out of each system and a more "natural" (for want of a better word) acoustic sound. I very recently saw the australian singer/songwriter Derrin Nauendorf play in a very small location using the house system. I'd played there 4 days previously using my Model II. best settings for electric guitar through a floor effects unit....

Hi - new here and new to the L1 - i played an acoustic duo on 1st use and we were blown away with the quality and how easy it was to get it sounding great - however, doing a seperate duo using backing tracks and a strat i'm struggling to get the guitar sounding decent - using a Zoom G3 effects pedal and i spent quite a while making - at room volume -what i though were decent tones but using last night the sounds at restaurant gig level - were pretty rough - clean tones especially - wouldn't...Read More...
That's some pretty interesting input ST. The Article " Why Does My Amp Sound Different At High Volume? " appears to be something like the "quantum theory of guitar amp tone". I find the " Then I might use the T1® zEQ to " try rolling the bass off. Maybe reduce the treble or presence a touch if things sound too shrill. "" to be good and solid in combination with the "Category: Electric Guitar, Preset: Flat E. Guitar zEQ" which puts the EQ range within the realms of an electric guitar. I...Read More...

Kemper Profiling Amp

djazz
Hello again everybody. It's been a while since I've posted, but still happily using my Bose L1 M2 with 2 subs. I stumbled across something exciting and have one in the mail ordered. I didn't know if anyone had heard of this? By the way, a few years back I was going to order simlar concept higher dollar unit but didn't after being rudely told by the owner on his own forum that Bose sucked when asking how it might sound through the L1. He should tell Pat Metheny that bose sucks because he must...Read More...

The Quest for Tone

ST
I did a house concert/party gig yesterday. An old buddy and I brought our L1®s. He had his Classic and I brought my Compact. We both had our own T1®s. Basically we each brought our solo rigs. Although the space was much larger, everybody was within about 1500 square feet (50 x 30). Four hours outdoors, pleasant company, good food, 50 appreciative people who interacted with us. It was a great time. I was playing my regular rig for a show like this. That is T1 Channel 1 - Neumann KMS 105...Read More...
Definitely YES, Toonz.. The last couple weekends I have been trying different settings, combinations, amps, guitars - for some specific goals, but generally The Quest For Tone, when you get right down to it. I even had purchased a new JBL Eon One, thinking IT might be The Answer, but returned it, as it would not out-perform either the super Bose Classic or Compact. Both simply sound better. Of COURSE the Classic has more (most) power and volume, but boy the Classic is SUCH a close second.Read More...

Hi Gerard, you don't say how you're using the Compact, e.g. Guitar/DJ? If it's a guitar for example with an active pick-up and you've done the gain staging (setting the trims on the T1 so that you've maybe got a very occasional flicker of red), and the Master on the T1 is so that it's as high as you can make it without distortion, and let's say that you've got the volume on channel 2 (I take it you're going into channel 2 on the Compact?) up to around 3 o' clock, then you've probably reached...Read More...

how to get more from less with a pocket knife

Oldghm
Tony asked me to explain "cutting" in the other thread, so I'll talk about it here. Over the years I've had more than a few inexpensive guitars pass through my hands. Way back, a local luthier had "toned" a Sigma guitar for me and the difference was quite spectacular. So, after that, on occasion when I got an inexpensive guitar I would experiment with cutting on the braces to improve tone. I have had a long interest in small bodied guitars, I learned on a no name parlor instrument that was...Read More...

Pre-amp pedal for acoustic guitar before the Tone Match

Hello, I'm new to the forum. I was just wondering if anybody has used a pre-amp or boost pedal before the Tone Match. KPA for Charlielo

ST
Hi Charlielo, Riffing off this... "All the peddles in the world couldn't make up for the sound of my Victoria 35210..." I'm sure that the Victoria 35210 sounds great. Do yourself a favour and check out a Kemper Profiling Amp This has replaced everything here for straight guitar sounds¹. That's amps, pedals, modellers. It plays well with the L1® (and it's only 12 pounds sounds ). And a discussions about that here: Kemper Profiling Amp ST quote: Originally posted by Charlielo: I was in a band...Read More...
Hi Charlielo, Definitely not "pocket money" for most of us. I really tried to resist it in 2015 as you can see by reading my posts in the Kemper thread. My first post in the Kemper thread Then came a lot of listening to and watching of clips and ..... end of a fairly long fight against GAS was that I played a Kemper and walked out of the shop with it. Yes it's "big Money," but if you really look at what's on offer for the money with the endless choice of amps, and especially the effects...Read More...

Hi macheted01, Thanks for sharing. This is fun. For Electric Guitar and Effects / Modelling... I find that within the first 5-10 feet the Compact has a little more presence than the Model II and that's nice for monitoring on a noisy stage. Have fun and enjoy the music! STRead More...

Violin tone match setting

lake_guy
For the violin (using pickup) I set the tone match for Electric Violin. After a bit of playing the violinist said that the high notes were coming through fine and the low were ok but mids were kind of muddy. I tried the electric mandolin setting which she liked much better for low, mid, high. This was a gig with keyboard and violin playing wedding music. Just wondering if there are any suggestions to get the best sound out of a pickup on a violin.Read More...
Hi lake_guy, I don't have any particular suggestions to add. I've had several Electric Violinists plug into my T1® over the years and they've been happy with the Electric Violin Preset. But we've never had time to do more than dial up the Preset and tweak the zEQ. Context is everything - or at least very important: In my situations the Electric Violin was being added to simple Electric Guitar and Vocal, or on other occasions a full Blues band (Vocals x 2, Electric Guitar x 2, Keyboards,...Read More...
