Large Outdoor Gig with F1 System?

Hi... Just booked a large outdoor event coming up in two weeks. Details: Outdoor auto show Live band - duo with acoustic/electric guitars and backing tracks playing dance/country/classic rock Stage/canopy Last years attendance near festival epicenter/food & beverage area over 2000 people [I did not do the gig last year - a similar duo did and they used the Yorkville Paraline system - two tops/two subs per side]. Question/discussion: I have never used the Bose F1 system for a venue this...Read More...
Hi Roger, Roger Cortina posted: Thx ST.. hadn't thought of that...but then the ipad would come out of L1 and not the Aux out or Master Out if I run the F1 again? Yes, you're right. Different input source, same problem. No solution. Sorry. I actually thought of a lightning adapter on the ipad to the USB in on the Tonematch..that would free up ch 4/5 for elec guitar, but how would I control the volume of the ipad on the tonematch? I would be using the volume at the source [ipad], correct?Read More...

Tone Match with FI

I recently purchased the Bose f1 model 812. I'.having trouble using the tone match with a computer running through it. I have a DJ program that I ran with the L1 Model II and tone match, now when I try hooking it up to the F1, I'm not able to get the music to come through the system. I have hooked it up according to the directions. Has anyone else ran into this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciatedRead More...
Hi Double A DJ, Thank you for joining the Bose Pro Portable PA Community! If you had your DJ program working with the T1® to your L1 Model II, then things should work equally well with your F1 Model 812. Assuming that you have a T1® Power Supply, you can connect the T1® Master Output to F1 Model 812 Input 1 or Input 2. If you need to connect two F1 Model 812s, you can add a second one. For information, we have an article here: T1® to F1 Model 812. Does that help? STRead More...

F1 System to Mixer

The setup is: Two F1 arrays with two bose subwoofers, also one Bose L1 with a subwoofer and ToneMatch, and a Behringer XR18 mixer. This concerns my Main Left and Right channels from the mixer: Would I plug into the two subwoofer first instead of plugging into both array speaker? The Bose L1 with sub is used as a monitor and plugged in to the bus input on mixer to the ToneMatch on Mic 1. Too many opinions from band mates to decide how to plug the F1 system into the mixer and we need a solid...Read More...

A big weekend for the F1 system!

jdbassentertainment.com
The big show was last weekend where I have been perparing for... The F1 performed great! After this weekend I now know I finally have the perfect system for my live sound needs... (four F1 stacks) I set it up exactly like the Bose tech PJ told me to, with the tops staggered in height and all subs in the center (under the stage). Set up and tear down was a breeze and I had plenty of headroom! The 812 tops sounded clear even with an empty tent which was not the case with my JBL system I used...Read More...

Considering Selling Old Bose Systems for F1 812

captacoustic
I'm thinking of selling my Compact and Classic and going to a single F1 812 with subwoofer. I don't gig as much as I used to and I'd like to clear up some space and simplify things. Most my gigging these days is in a duo. Any thoughts on this?Read More...

I'm going to be running 2 F1 stacks outdoors off of a generator. Would plugging an 812 and sub into one 12 gauge 50 ft cord work? 50 ft 12AWG 125Vac 15Amp cable on Amazon is what I'm looking at. Thanks!Read More...

Making F1 812 array wifi enabled

Just bought an F1 812 array as our backyard speakers. Awesome decision so clear and actually more output then we will ever use. Can hear the thing from a couple of blocks away LOL. So im in the process of modding it to attach a Bose Soundtouch link so we have wifi streaming to the 812. Has anyone done this? have connected the input via cabling to the RCA so the sound side was easy, just want to pick up 5V 1A power off the 812 internal power. I assume there is a 5V DC point on one of the...Read More...
So finished the mod and it works brilliantly! i attached the sound touch on the outside so the i can remove and use elsewhere when required. This was lucky as not much room inside the top and bottom electronics bays. i mcguivered a DC source by getting a simple 240v to 5v 1amp power pack i simply pulled one apart and made up a new housing. I found that there is a high voltage connection point on the circuit board at the top of the speaker so simply used that to pick up power. So net result a...Read More...

Bose f1 + l1 suggestion

Hello ! Can anyone tell me wich setup is louder : 1* L1m2/b2 + 4* F1 stacks... or 2*L1m2/b2 + 2 *F1 stacks ? Ps: we are a 4 member band performing live music ( vocal, keyboard, sax, accordion) and only the keyboard stays on the stage when we are performing;),the vocals and other instruments are in the dancing crowd, and they need to hear themselves. Thank you!Read More...
I could...if they were wireless ) but I really have to keep them in front of the stage to avoid damaging the wires. I suppose that 2 more 812 would be better than one column...?Read More...

Looping Monitors into the F1s

Hi, I play in a Pink Floyd 4 piece cover band (Midnight-Floyd.com) and we had very mixed results with the F1s for various reasons. One of the issues we have a lot is feedback because we often loop 2 600w Harbingers between the 812s and the mixer. So the chain is currently: Mixer XAir18 -> Sennheiser In Ear Monitor Transmitter -> Harbinger Monitor -> F1 812 -> F1 Sub. We are all plugged into the mixer (Digital drum set, bass direct in, Kemper profiling amp, keys, mics) The reason...Read More...
More in common, my band is all digital and direct to board as well. I wasn't worried about the low end being filtered out of the monitors due to the crossover between the 812 and the sub, in fact I was hoping it would be. The frequencies that the subs put out are omni directional and can be heard as well behind the speaker as in front. If the monitors don't have to try to put out those low frequencies it's less taxing on them. Ideally they would just reproduce what the 812s are doing but ST...Read More...

A secondary mount for the F1 812

Litesnsirens
I wonder what it would take to get Bose to create a really short version of the mounts that they currently supply. In case it's not clear what I'm talking about, I'm referring to the stand that is housed in the F1 Sub that clicks into the sub and then the 812 sits on top of it. Is there a specific name for that? It would have made this post easier! Anyway my thought is, if Bose made some super short ones, there would be an option to have the 812s sitting almost directly on top of the sub. So...Read More...
I don't think there'd be any phasing issues based on the height of the 812s to the subs. They're crossed over, no competing frequencies. I'm sure there was some logic to the decided height of the system as designed and likely some sonic benefit in most situations. My guess is that it would relate to the angles of the flex array among other things. That said, the 812s can be separately mounted on poles at any height and sound just fine. I'm with you though, I'd love to see some feedback from...Read More...

Adding F1 Sub & 812 Top Cab to two L1 II Systems with Tonematch

Currently my trio which is 1 guitar, Small drum kit & bass + 2 Vocals. We now use the Tonematch mixer for the 2 vocals and 1 guitar and use a small Yamaha mixer with effects and submix the drums & Bass into channel 4 of the T1. We send the master out on the T1 to the analog input of the other L1 System. Each L1 system has a B2 bass bin. We use this pretty much everywhere. When we need to grow the rig for bigger or outdoor performances we have instead send the T1 master out to a...Read More...
Hi Benderman57 benderman57 posted: In further study of the diagram I would not be interested in hooking the system up this way. I know how I want to run the instruments and such and like I stated I've made the system bigger with other stuff in the past and this worked fine. What I guess I really want to know is is when I come out of the master on the T1 I would then go into one sub then up to an 812? then if we added another side I could daisy chain from that side to the other then take an...Read More...

Polarity question

Litesnsirens
I'm not overly knowledgable on this particular point but there are polarity switches on the subs. I have read that this is to possibly assist if you aren't mounting the 812s directly on the subs. My question is, would this also help with phase cancellation if say you had 2 subs right beside each other? If the same feature had have been built into the 812s would the same principle apply? And would this have allowed the use of dual setups on each side? As in the crude diagram below... L R...Read More...
Hi Litesnsirens, Nice to see you again. When you have two F1 Subwoofers close together (touching) they will act as one (acoustic coupling). There shouldn't be any appreciable phase cancellation. You want to set the Polarity the same for both. There could issues with the between the pairs of F1 Subwoofers on either side of the stage but if you are setup indoors, this could be masked by reflections. Outdoors, you might do better to put all four F1 Subwoofers together, if you have room in front...Read More...

Balanced or unbalanced cable?

EXODUS MOBILE DJ (NZ)
Hi, I was not sure of what cable to use for the F1 812 and subwoofer inputs. Can I use ordinary unbalanced TS mic cable from my mixer to either the 812 or sub or do I need a balanced one? Are these inputs balanced? I tried both cable types and noticed that the TRS cable produces louder volume. Also I am about to do an outdoor gig and will be using F1 Stack together with L1 M1 together as FOH on both sides of the stage. How do I connect them? Can I connect the left channel of the mixer to the...Read More...
Hi Exodus Mobile DJ (NZ), EXODUS MOBILE DJ (NZ) posted: Hi ST, Thanks for the quick reply. Yes that's what I'm trying to do. I was just worried about the cancellation between the L1 and the F1 since they are sitting closely with each other and having 1 signal going in. I'm wondering about this too. I would bring long cables for the connection from the F1 Model 812s to the L1®s in case you need to get some distance between them. I'll let you know the result. Thanks! About the cables to use,...Read More...

Our History with Bose portable PA products over a decade

Capt Bill
Hi BOSE Portable Community: I wanted to offer some great history on how we have used Bose portable PA products for over a decade. It all started when we got our first L1 Model 1 - you know the one everyone called the basketball goal. Well, it was a work horse for us. We rented them out and the only problems we ever had were the cover over the electronics keep getting broke off. We found that it was impossible to damage the speakers and OMG the sound was incredible. Our first exposure to the...Read More...

F1 front of house with L1 stage monitor

We will continue to use our L1 system with two B1 bass units behind us as a monitor system. For some very small venues this will be loud enough for the audience as well. However, for larger Club and Theatre gigs we will have two F1s out front. Is there likely to be any phasing problem because of the different distances of the F1s and L1 from the audience? We will keep the volume of the L1 down to reduce the over spill to the audience.Read More...

L1 Model 2 With B2 - Adding F1 top and sub

Hi I have been trawling through trying to find my exact scenario, but I can't. So here it is. I have L1 model 2 with B2, I love it and have used the system with B1 and B2's for 6 years. I perform acoustic music and vocals, BUT for weddings I also perform with electric guitar and backing tracks. I have had a few gigs recently where the volume of the L1 just didn't cut it. I had 100 people dancing on the dancefloor, the L1 loud but starting to distort a little. I think the Bass from outside...Read More...
Hi Doddsy, I was just checking out your website . That was a great way to get to know you better and to get some more insight into your music. Also once the volume gets up there my ears ring the next day , it would be nice to be able to boost the front of house( hopefully f1) and keep the L1 behind me doing a reasonable volume for my monitoring and generally doing its excellent dispersion. It's time to get you out of harm's way. An F1 Model 812 could really help with the "dance floor fill".Read More...

F1 Graphic EQ Settings

Hello - Been using the Bose F1 812 & F1 Sub going on one year now. We use L1B2T1 for duo gigs with backing tracks up to 150 people. More than that we use the F1 812 - 1 per side, sometimes without subs, or one sub or two, depending on size of venue and guests. Some gigs it sounds great...other gigs could have sounded much better. We did an A/B comparison in a room with 600 guests for dancing with a Yorkville Paraline System, and honestly, we thought the Paraline outperformed the F1. We...Read More...
Thanks ST....nice look for the new forum... The F1 and the Paraline are voiced considerably differently. My observations are as I turn up the volume, the signal clipping is not the issue - it is the feedback - we need to notch quite a few frequencies on the GEQ. Then it appears we lose volume. We've had so many great experiences with the L1 - I bought the original L1 [now Classic] over 8 years ago - and now to the L1M2 - a total of over 900 gigs on L1 systems. From the get-go they were...Read More...

Daisy chaining F1s

Hi I have two F1 systems that I want to run from the left output of my mixer. How do I wire them up? It does not cover this with the various setups described in the manual. My guess is to go into one sub, out into one 812 and then out the 812 into the other sub and out to other 812. Is that correct?Read More...
Hi again John, John Sparks posted: I need the same mix and effects as are going out front. We have nothing louder than acoustic guitars, so I get to control the levels by using the front of house mix through full range monitoring via the L1. I understand. Sometimes vocalists want more reverb in the monitors that I want in the house. That's typically the driver to have a separate monitor mix. STRead More...

Input Clip Light Coming On

Hi Guys. I did post about this once before but wondering if anyone else is having this issue since. The input clip light seems to come on even at what I think is a pretty low volume. I'm used to doing these outdoor events with my 802's & the amp doesn't clip for them & that's only 450w per side (1800VI amp). The 802's are uncomfortably loud to stand in front of when they're cranked up. The F1's are 1,000w RMS so it should be even louder but people are happily standing a foot in front...Read More...

F1 Model 812 with or without F1 Subwoofer with L1®s with B1s or B2s

JohnL
Reviving an old thread. ST, you did a chain from the F1 to an L1M2B2 combo, would a single B1 instead of a B2 work as well? Chained thru an F1 sub? (Or even split via aux to a separate F1 sub to augment a single B1?) So setup would be 2 L1M2B1 units then single F1 subwoofer. Would that sound better/louder than 2 L1M2B2 units with no F1 subwoofer?Read More...
