Creating Array By Stacking F1s

I am curious if stacking the F1s like they are in the video produces a better sound since it becomes a bigger array? Would placing the two F1s side-by-side be better? F1s StackedRead More...

Connecting 4 F1 Stacks

What is the optimal way to connect two F1 systems together? I have tried multiple routes but it seems like the second F1 Model 812 always clips due to a hot input signal. My usual setup is a Pioneer DDJSZ2 to a Mackie ProFX12. I have tried Model 812 to F1 sub to second 812 to second F1 sub. I have also tried F1 sub to second F1 sub and 812 to second 812 using a driverack. Would a XLR splitter for the 812s solve the problem of the signal being too hot for the second pair?Read More...
Hi djmaverick, The F1 Subwoofer volume control does not affect the F1 Subwoofer LINE OUTs. Like this: " Model 812 to F1 sub to second 812 to second F1 sub " and turn down the volume on the second F1 Model 812 so it doesn't clip. OR Run two outputs from the Mackie mixer as I described above. STRead More...

Pair of F1 812's with subs from T1 Tonematch

Greetings , I am seeking advice on connectivity of the F1's from my Tonematch. I am running a single T1 to my L1 Model II with B1 behind my band as a monitor. I am looking for the best way to get my T1 signal to both F1's. I have tried it from my master out to the first 812 , 812 to my first sub , first sub to my second 812 and then to my second sub. Is there any better way to make all of this work together ? Since my F1's are the FOH i need the reverb to come through so I guess using the...Read More...

Daisy Chain F1's

Can someone help me with the setup of connecting (2) F1 arrays on each side. Total of 4 speakers and 4 subs with a mixer in between. I understand how to connect 2 speakers and 2 subs but am not quite sure how to connect the additional set.Read More...
I find this works best for my rig. Mixer OUT to each F1 Sub in then out to your tops blend in desired amount of volume from the sub to match the tops (at a low volume usually between 0 and 1) I then use the other output from first F1 sub to INPUT of second F1 sub and so on and so on for each additional sub.Read More...

F1 Clear, Powerful, but not too loud!

Sound quality of single F1 vs S1 pro

I'm looking for thoughts/opinions on how a single F1 would compare I sound quality to an S1 Pro. I understand many of the differences/pros and cons of each speaker and a lot of boils down to the needs of the venue but I'm interested in knowing if I would be better off using one F1 as FOH along with an S1 as a monitor or using 2 S1 speakers. Would sound QUALITY be comparable? This application would be for solo acoustic guitar and vocalist and possible a second acoustic guitar and vocalist at...Read More...
Great points made and based a number of gigs this year, Chet 3 is right on form my experience with my band. When I play indoors, 2 S1s on poles slightly behind us and off to the side work, great as FOH/Monitor and in some venues I have been asked to turn down . When outside, the S1s are used as monitors and the F1s as FOH.Read More...

Laying the Bose F1 Subwoofer on its side

DJ8X
I recently ran into an issue where I was using only 1 Bose F1 Subwoofer. I wanted to put it under the table but it was slightly too tall. I ended up laying it on its side so that it can fit under the table. From Bose perspective, was this safe to do? I don't know how the components in the cab are aligned or set up. I don't know how important vertical set-up is to those components. Any insight on this will be helpful. I posted a while back about stacking 2 Bose F1 Subwoofers laying on the...Read More...
Hi DJ8X, It's fine to operate the F1 Subwoofer on its side. Consider using a mat between the F1 Subwoofer and the floor so the F1 Subwoofer doesn't move around because of the vibration. STRead More...

Can F1 812 deliver a consistent SPL of Vertical Coverage for Speech Application

The dimension of my venue (L x W x H) is 50 x 20 x 10 feet, and that of the stage (L x W) is 10 x 20 feet for Live Band House of Worship (acoustic guitar, electric bass, acoustic drums, keyboard, 4 vocals) and Speech. Regarding the vertical converge of TWO F1 812 without Sub, I am not worried about the performance in live band scenario, but I am still worried about that in Speech scenario. Therefore, I worked out a section diagram of the case for your reference. If I want these F1 812...Read More...
KT I did not check my SPL meter when doing this gig. However here is a sample of how the Bose F1 812 handled speaking in a 9k sq ft space. Hopefully this will give you an idea. https://youtu.be/NnHs_osnQ8IRead More...

812 Dent Removal

Hey - the F1 Array arrived today, packed very badly. The most of the individual grills have been pushed in a little. No sharp dents - they're now just concave instead of convex. Are they removable? I feel like I could gently pop them out if they were off the box. I've you've got a good technique I'd appreciate the advice. Cheers.Read More...
Hi SR, Welcome to the Bose Portable PA Community. I'm glad you're here. Your F1 Model 812 units should have been perfect out of the box. You should not have to do anything with the grills. Is F1 Sub really necessary for my venue

The dimension of my venue (L x W x H) is 60 x 23 x 11 feet, and that of the stage (L x W) is 11 x 23 feet for Live Band House of Worship (acoustic guitar, electric bass, acoustic drums, keyboard, 4 vocals). Recently, I checked with vendor about F1 812 implementation, they recommended us to add F1 812 top without sub. Therefore, I doubted if F1 812 sub is really important in my venue for live band application. Does F1 812 top without sub enable to deliver deep enough bass? Do you have any ...Read More...
My opinion on this is, it depends. The 812s do an amazing job on handling the low end with the eq in full range mode. Very impressive. I own a pair of the subs as well but I’ve done gigs and just left the subs at home for smaller venues or quieter gigs. I also use only the 812s for rehearsal. It’s hard to sort of visualize the size of a room just from dimensions but my guess is that you could get away with a pair of 812s in a room that size. It’s nice to have the extra bit of headroom that...Read More...

Is Vertical Dispersion of F1 812 40° V (C-position)

Refer to the attached diagram from Bose official user manual, I tried to measure their angles personally by angle ruler, but I found these should be 80 degree totally instead of 40. In your experience, is 40 degree of vertical dispersion true? if not, what is your measured value?Read More...
It doesn't matter. Regarding the vertical dispersion, I just want to highlight that the image looks misleading. If it is 40 degree, the coverage line specially for C should be narrow instead of wide.Read More...

Modding the F1 Subwoofer

F1 812 Speaker Placement

As I am planning to purchase a set of F1 for setting PA at small live band venue (~150 audience), F1 top 812 will be mounted on ceiling and F1 sub will be put to edge of stage, I expect to fill EVEN sounds to every audience at this hall. However, I could not find the detail technical data regarding F1. So far, I have three queries below. 1. How many F1 top 812 speaker should be added to the venue in my case? 2. What is the best 812 speakers placement (Option A / B / C / others)? 3. Do you...Read More...
The reason why I started considering K.2, I found the quoted price of 812 top is the triple cost of K8.2, this is very much expensive. On the other hands, since the provided sounds from our drum kits is very loud, we are planning to add partitions and absorption panels (Clearsonic S2466x2 (S5-2D) Sorber, Clearsonic A2466x6 (A5-6) Drum Shield, Clearsonic S2244 (S2D) Sorber 7-pack) to lower the loud sound, and will not put drum mic. I hope the potential problem would be resolved. Therefore, I...Read More...

Love my L1 Compact

I currently play in a duo doing acoustic music with mandolin, and guitar. We are using two L1 Compacts and two Fishman loudbox minis with a mic and guitar or mandolin into each one going from the XLR out of the minis into the compact. The XLR outs on the minis are extremely quiet going into the Bose and it is the quietest best sound I have ever heard in a PA. I completely understand why a lot of people would not like Bose if they are not using them in the proper manner. However using them in...Read More...
Hi, I fully agree. I play the L1 II with the b1 base.I have played many pa-s over my life (always bands), but I never heard such a clear surrounding sound when I played. Stereo configuration F1 (no Sub) in a smal room

Hi, Does the F1 system sounds good in low volume in a small room as it sounds in a large places? I bought two S1 Pro for my playing room (15ft x 12 ft) and they get into saturation when I connect to one of my drum machines (the kick blown away the 61/2" woofer in relative low volume). My Bass guitar also causes the 61/2" to work on its edge. So, after consulting the local Bose dealer, he recomended on the F1. My concern is the sound in low volume in a small room. BTW, I prefer the F1 over...Read More...
Read More...

F1 812 Array stuck in C and just flops around

Last night after doing a gig for 4 hours after getting my rig home i noticed my one of my 812 tops in the C position and went to change it. Bad first experience with F1

Tom Munch
I finally ended up on an F1 system last night at a venue where I played a concert with a fine piano player and blues singer. I'm accustomed to using my L1 Model II in this kind of situation, but I thought this would be a great chance to really hear the F1. The short story is the sound was horrible on stage no matter what I tried. The audience said they had great sound, and when I was checking sound out front it was very good, but being on the back side of the F1 and sub mains with Mackie SRM...Read More...
I agree with Cowboy Upp. When forced to use FOH systems we almost always use L1's or Compacts as side washes and we have a great sound on stage. Your still not going to have any idea what the sound is off stage. Your FOH sound will be at the mercy of the sound man but that is the trade off when not using the L1 as intended.Read More...

Mixer to F1 recommended setup

I am the new owner of an F1 system (one 812 and one subwoofer unit). I will be running everything into this system from a Yamaha MG10XU mixer. The Yamaha, of course, has L and R stereo outs, both XLR and TRS. I am curious about the best connection setup between the mixer and the 812. I have an XLR splitter which could plug into the L/R outs on the mixer and then run one cable into Input 1 on the 812. Or I could run separate cables from the L/R outs on the mixer and then go into both Input 1...Read More...

F1 Model 812 Line Out - Post EQ?

Hi Smitty, Yes. I'm sorry, you'll have to set the volume on the second F1 Model 812 by ear. You can't assume the center detent is Unity (more on that below). But even if it was Unity, if the reason you are running your source to the F1 Model 812 is to add gain, setting the volume at Unity wouldn't add any gain. Unity? The concept of Unity doesn't quite apply here because there's no input trim control on the F1 Model 812 and, you've got different outcomes depending on whether you use balanced...Read More...

Love the F1 Speakers

Hey! I'm new to the forum, but just wanted to express my appreciation of the design and product build of the Bose F1 speakers. I also have a question about purchasing another. I'm the worship pastor at a 500 seat fan-shaped building and we were previously running a mono mix with a pair of EAW speakers in the centre of the building. Garbage Bags and Tarps and F1's oh my...

jdbassentertainment.com
Recently had the pleasure of providing sound reinforcement on a un-tented portable stage on a rainy day! I typically never accept shows like this (meaning I always require a tent over head), but I was trying to help out a local nonprofit... Needless to say I had contractor grade garbage bags on my 812 (to stop the rain from blowing on them) and had tarps over my F1 subs for half of the four hour concert... the rain/wind was on and off the whole time... nothing got ruined, but this will be...Read More...
@jdbassentertainment.com man did this resonate with us too. We’ve played outdoors where the weather was highly unpredictable and the cover we had was grossly inadequate. I remember one time we were using our L1M2 and you could see a squall line come up out of the blue. Despite folks saying it was nothing, we stopped and frantically broke down into a small shed nearby only to have the rain coming down in buckets mere minutes after we were safely put away. It was a nightmare. We were at a...Read More...
