Two F1 812

Hi everyone's, Just received a pair of F1 812 today while waiting for the T8S to be available. Without using the ToneMatch T8S, do I really need any other powered speaker's processor like DBX? I just do not want to spend any more money while waiting for the Bose ToneMatch T8S. I am currently using a mixer with an external effect with a pair of Behringer Eurolive B1200D-PRO (which will be replaced by F1-812) Greatly appreciated for any advises.Read More...

Source Output Levels for Bose F1 System

DJ8X
I have read in a few places that the Bose F1 system performs best when connected to a source with a strong output level. I am wondering just how true this may be. I lean toward the idea that the F1 system performs well no matter the source. I was able to connect my system to two sources with different output levels, and I was able to achieve optimal sound on both sources. My test was very non-scientific. I just used the limit indicators on the F1 Sub and 812 as a reference point. I was able...Read More...
Yaaaaay....it's all good. My original test came from the desire of wanting to eliminate my Mackie mixer from the signal chain. While it does have a greater output than my Pioneer controller, the only real difference I observed was it had the ability to peak my system faster than my controller. My next test will actually involve spl meter readings at peak from both sources. If the Mackie proves to be "louder", then I might concluded that it also lowers the noise floor.Read More...

Floor Monitor Concept

Anywhere PRO Audio
Background: I own Anywhere PRO Audio & Entertainment located in Jacksonville, NC. In 2012, I purchased two L1 Model II's for DJ and live sound for multiple bands, trios and solo acts and they worked out great until I set up outdoors for medium size gigs (500+) and couldn't achieve bass to parallel the db of the mid/high range. (in Bose portable PA). Bought four B2 bass modules in 2015 and updated firmware on L1's...some better, but they have quite a bit of annoying rear bleed at moderate...Read More...
Modern VintageDC, Thanks so much for the heads-up call! Sometimes I get busy and don't keep an eye out for the newest gear. I just need to start going to NAMM! Bose L1 M2 with B2 (2Nos) and Bose F1 812 with sub (2 Nos)-for STEREO

Hi I have a performance this Sunday and I just got my pair of F1s and subs. Till now I was using my L1 M2s with B2 as stereo. My setup is simple 1) 2L1s with B2 on FOH - for Stereo ( around 20 + feet apart) 2) Two T1s - going into QSC touchmix 16, -channels 1&2, for Vocals, 3) Others- Keyboard, Guitar, Rhythm pads, persussions (2) go directly into QSC channels 3,4,5, 6 & 7 respectively 4) I have a stage monitor JBL 715 which comes from the AUX send from the QSC. With the above setup,...Read More...
Hi Siji Anand, Yes, it is possible to get more gain for the F1 Subwoofer if you go through the F1 812 first. You pick up the gain with the volume controls on the F1 812. If you have a strong signal from the source, you don't need to do this. Thank you for this excellent, detailed report. WIthout sophistocated modeling tools, I can't predict which way would have given you more bass. I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you. STRead More...

Bose F1 Model 812 Flexible Array

DJ8X
When looking at the Bose F1 812 and the 8 drivers on the baffle, a few questions come to mind. 1. Is this a "true" column array sitting in front of a 12" woofer? 2. Does the Bose F1 812 carry the benefit of reduced drop-off over the listening spectrum, similar to other Bose column array units? 3. What exactly is the purpose or advantage of changing the EQ whenever the shape of the baffle is changed?Read More...

Bose F1 Model 812 Mounting on Gym Wall

I'm thinking about mounting two of these in a gym facing bleachers. The gym is approximately 101x75x28. I'm planning on spacing the speaker about 30' apart from center court. When aiming the speaker what is the center? Does it change when in straight, J, Reverse J or C? To keep the sound off the wall and stage for events that require a stage I'm wanting to go reverse J. For all other event I would go with C to give more coverage on the floor. How even is the coverage from the center to the...Read More...

F1 Powered Subwoofer

I own two set of L1 compact speakers and sastified with the sound when I played live music indoor. However, they seem not enough bass when I played outdoor. Due to versatile setup needs & cost, I don't not want ugrade to L1 system with B2 bass instead buying one F1 powered subwoofer when playing out door. Can someone advise if F1 Powered Subwoofer is compatible with my two L1 compact speaker or can be setup for my intention? Thanks in advance! APRead More...

Speaker Placement

DJ8X
One of the reasons I bought into the Bose F1 system was because I wanted to eliminate speaker stands. My options were Bose L models (which I don't like because I'm a bass junkie), or the RCF Evox models. I went with the F1 because I was able to eliminate speaker stands AND rival my QSC rig (2 k12s and 1 KW181). I have concerns now that the integrated stand will not get the speakers up high enough as I am accustomed to. I don't want to put my 812s on stands because that is taking a step...Read More...

Hi EPIC, This depends on the outputs of your keyboard. If the outputs are balanced then use 1/4" Tip-Ring-Sleeve (balanced) cables. Otherwise, you can use unbalanced cables. (1/4" Tip-Sleeve). There's no harm in using balanced cables if you're not sure. How's that? STRead More...

F1 Amazing Sound, Small Footprint

jdbassentertainment.com
I recently had the pleasure of providing sound and lights for a five piece band that filled the stage! They took up 22 inputs on my board. They were an REO Speenwagon Tribute group. The venue was a local casino event hall that has a seating capacity of around 400. The F1 System I used at this show was two 812 tops & two F1 subs. I used the integrated stand and had them 25 feet apart on either side of the stage. The venue and band were both very happy with the sound and we got lots of...Read More...
I took my 2 F1 Systems out for a spin last night. It was a corporate function downtown Chicago. The attendance was roughly 370 people. The 2 systems covered this quite well. There were maybe up to 100 in the dancing area while the rest were spread out throughout the room. Interesting thing is, I still had more volume to give them but didn't need it.Read More...

Proper Gain Staging

DJ8X
I ran across a Bose WiKi for gain staging. This is an informative read. Here is my dilemma. I have been recently told that it is better to have my speaker gained higher than my mixer. I will run you through every component in the system. Here is how I would typically "gain stage" : Serato Software running in stereo / / Serato auto-gain set to 92dB / / Serato Master Output set to 12 o'clock (All this has track VU and Master VU set right under clip in software) DDJ SR Channel Trim set so...Read More...
The Mackie actually serves a few functions. 1. Multiple inputs. I run 2 wireless mics and I run a secondary music source like phone tablet or computer..just in case my primary source malfunctions or I need to pull a song not in my library. 2. The Mackie increases the signal. The DDJ SR is bus powered therefore the output is underpowered. For example all gain set to 12 o'**** sounds lower when going straight from the DDJ SR. When the Mackie is added in and also set all to 12, the output is...Read More...
