Getting two F1 Model 812, do I need the F1 Subwoofers too?

Hi all Since this is my first post let me apologise for any grammatical errors I was looking into Getting two F1 Tops as my new main Speakers I just wanted to ask do you think I will need to Get The Subs too? I currently do Small to Medium events with ~1000 people I am going to be using the speakers on poles on the edges of a 17ft stage in the big car park I will be using it mostly for trad bands and Public address the one thing I really need is for them to be properly heard considering the...Read More...
I'd endorse Prakash's comments, you'll need more power than that. If you have a quiet listening audience you might just get away with it but if not, or it's windy no. On a paid job I'd be putting 10-20k watts into that for general music plus at least 8k of subs. You'll manage with less for predominantly acoustic music but not much. Bose kit does seem to bend the laws of physics a bit but you can only go so far. FWIW I have played to 400+ with a similar sized/powered rig to the one you're...Read More...

When to add a second F1?

Have an F1 Model 812 and F1 sub. Have a second F1 812 on order. Bass is not directional, and Bose actually markets a package with 2 F1 812 and a single F1 sub. My question is why would you add a second F1 Sub? What do you gain by adding another? When would you need 2 instead of just one F1? ThanksRead More...
There are a lot of situations where you could use a second sub. The biggest reason to have two is so that you have a back-up on the spot seamlessly keeping things going in case one fails. They can fail. I charge too much to not have backups for my gear. At least that’s what my clients always tell me. As far as actual benefit to your sound... IMHO it is not needed at all and if it is actually “needed” you will probably need a lot more than just another sub... But you WILL get swollen pecs,...Read More...

Next Generation Bose F1 System

DJ8X
Although Bose did not unveil any new products at Winter NAMM 2020, I wonder are they working on something. The Bose F1 System has been out for quite a while and they have heard feedback from all aspects of the musical entertainment community. I am about to invest more into the Bose brand along the lines of the F1 products. I would hate to expand my current F1 rig with products that are available right now, and then 5 months down the road, Bose launches next generation F1 stuff. I just need...Read More...
Unfortunately that is the case with many, if not all, companies. Think it is actually worse with other technology. There will is always a better phone or computer just around the corner. I am in a similar situation. I have 2 S1 Pros and just bought an F1 Sub. Will soon get the F1 top to go with the sub. Be bummed if they do release and new and improved version a few months down the road. But better to have the gear now and make use of it than to not have it. Someone gave me advice a while...Read More...

Big or Small, Bose has it all

DJ8X
This is just a scaling of rigs that a mobile DJ such as myself can take advantage of using the Bose Products... I seldom play outdoors. So with that here is my scaling model. 2 S1 Pro - Small 2 S1 Pro / 1 F1 Sub 2 F1 812 - don't know, but could be comparable to the above rig 2 F1 812 / 1 F1 Sub 2 F1 812 / 2 F1 Subs 2 F1 812 / 4 F1 Subs 4 F1 812 / 4 F1 Subs - Large With this in your arsenal, it all comes down to how big is your event and how much gear do you want to haul and set up.Read More...

One F1 812 + One S1 pro vs Two S1 Pros

Hello, I am seeking advise on using one F1 812 as main speaker with one S1 pro as a side speaker/monitor vs two S1 pros daisy chained as described else where. During live performance I would like to stream track via bluetooth to S1 pro and connect Microphone to the S1 pro - so S1 pro acts as a mixer. Output of S1 pro goes to either F1 or other S1. Main use are very occassional small live concerts in indoor and outdoor settings with about 100 people. Music is Indian classical or Bollywood.Read More...
Following for interest. As a sound technician, I work fairly often with Indian classical and related music fields, so the more I know about it, the better *everything* works.Read More...

Bose F1 Subwoofer vs QSC KS112 Subwoofer

DJ8X
So, I am an original QSC junkie. I sold my QSC rig to get the Bose F1 System. I needed to ditch the heavy 18inch sub and get lighter gear without sacrificing much output. I went to compare the QSC KS112 to the F1 Sub because..hey...it's QSC. I took a friend along with me that did not know much about brands or gear specs. I needed an unbiased ear because I know how much I loved my QSC gear, and how much I currently love my Bose System. Long story short, the QSC KS112 was louder and...Read More...
Awesome information........ I just picked up a pair of Bose F1's about a month ago...... I'm extremely happy with them. I did listen to the Bose subs and loved the nice solid tight punch of them. I have a passive 18" SP Peavey subcompact which has served me well over the years but, the bass isn't solid and tight like the Bose and/or other smaller woofers. I would love to trade up for at least one of those Bose subs over my Peavey.......... Thanks for sharing your test. Ray 👍👍😊Read More...

F1 *12 speaker

Hi I have had the F1 812 for 3 months the sound is unbeatable for vocals ,backing tracks and guitar. Sadly the speaker has developed what i think is a continious rattle sound but if hold my hand against the centre grill it stops the rattle. (photo Attached) I don't think it is the speaker more like the grill vibrating. Has anyone else had this problem? any suggestions of how to stop it? Many Thanks WarrenRead More...
Just a bit of humour : try to find a young boy who'll put his finger where it's necessary to suppress the "rattle sound" while you are playing music ! (and at the end of your gig, offer a drink to the young boy who'll be happy saying : I was there !)Read More...

Using more than one pair of F1's with subwoofers per side

already have a pair of F1's and subs thinking about adding another pair to it for a live rock band, has anyone done this if so what where your resultsRead More...
Hi, Tony. Thanks for the interesting question. It's great you are looking for ways to improve the sound for a live rock band. When you add two more F1 Model 812s, place the new F1 Model 812s where you need the sound (not bundled together in pairs with the existing systems). You don't gain much by placing two F1 Model 812s together (side-by-side or stacked) in one location. In theory, you might get up to +3 dB gain in SPL, but you may also introduce Multiple Source Interference because the F1...Read More...

F1 Model 812 systems with Numark/Mackie and Peavy Sub Setup

Hi, I’m getting ready to pull the trigger on a pair of F1 812's. I DJ and Karaoke anywhere from small rooms (500 sq. ft.) to halls for wedding receptions. I use a pair of passive Yorkville 15” speaker’s and an 18" passive Peavey subwoofer with a couple Mackie M1400i FR series amps along with my Mackie 1402 VLZ Pro mixer. I have two different setups I use, one for DJing with my Numark with the other for Karaoke. 1) DJ Setup: a) Speakers: Numark Mixdeck Quad > 1 st Mackie M1400i FR series...Read More...

Use the F1 like an L1 - behind you etc?

I'm considering getting a pair of F1s for a band (trio) I'm in. Most of the time we would be using these in a typical FOH position, using stage monitors. However, in some cases, like house concerts, it might be nice to use them like I've used my L1, positioned behind us. Since I already have one L1, I was wondering if we could use the F1s (on stands) behind us, as if they were a pair of L1s, in addition to the L1 that I have. I know they behave as line arrays - I'm wondering would they work...Read More...

one F1 812 vs two S1 pro

Hi everyone, I'm not a musician and I'm not into djing. Since the price is almost equal, I would like to recive comments about comparison between having one F1 model 812 or two S1 pro. Which choice would be better overall? Thanks.Read More...
Hola gioanin.

Use two TRS to XLR BALANCED cables from the main outputs of your mixer (TRS male) to the inputs on the F1s. They look like these: https://www.sweetwater.com/c81...ed_Cables_XLR_to_TRS And if necessary you can use regular xlr to xlr balanced cables to extend the distance.Read More...

I'm on the fence about a pair of F1's with a few questions.

I'm on the fence about a pair of F1's with a few questions. I'm a DJ and would like to know how the amp stays cool for 4 to 6 hours of play. 3 to 4 hours of that is dance music at higher volumes. Also, how do the amps hold up long term (years) without having a fan along with good circulation? How great are these tops for your average halls with a dance floor average 24x24'? I have heard that the C pattern is great as well for Djing.Read More...
I agree to use subs! I have sold many of the f1 812 with sub. I have used them in DJ work. I have never had a failure. It seems the engineers would have put a fan on the units if they were not needed.Read More...

Bose F1 812 vs QSC K12

DJ8X
This is just a quick comparison of the two speakers. I want to start out by saying that they are both loud. They both sound good. The QSC was able to get louder than the 812 before clipping, but not by much. Also, there was a different quality to the “loudness” from both speakers. For the sake of my testing, I ran the 812 in the C position. I did this because I am not fully sold on the Vertical coverage benefits of the flex array. I am a DJ who will most likely always play on the same level...Read More...

Full band Setup

Hello! I just recently purchased the F1 System (812 Speaker and Subwoofer). My plan for this system is to run a full band through it via 14 channel mixer. And I would also be connecting a laptop/iPad for canned music. In the instruction book, it gives multiple examples on how to setup the system for a full band but doesn’t give an example for a single 812 speaker and subwoofer setup. I would gladly welcome any suggestions on how to setup this up to get the best sound! P.s I do plan on buying...Read More...

Connect a sound mixer

Hello! I’m looking to get the F1 Model 812 and F1 Subwoofer to use with a sound mixer (Peavey PV14). I wanted to get some insight on how to connect the mixer to the F1 System. The 812 only has 1 XLR input, how would I connect the left and right channels from the mixer? The subwoofer has 2 inputs that I can use for L and R from the mixer but then how would I connect the L and R to the 812?Read More...
Hi, Gbobby. Stereo requires two mid-high loudspeakers (e.g., two F1 Model 812 systems). Since you have only one F1 Model 812 with F1 Subwoofer, you cannot achieve stereo sound. There is nothing to be gained by running two cables from the mixer to the F1 Model 812 however, if you want to do it, use Tip-Ring-Sleeve to XLR cables. Set the Input 1 Signal Input to LINE Set the volume controls so you see solid green on the LEDs. It's okay if you see flickers of red (up to one second). If you see...Read More...

Loud Hum from set up using F1 812 powered speaker

Hi I must firstly say that the Bose F1 812 speaker sound is Fantastic. I use a Tone match T1 mixer with F1 812 speaker and iPad for Backing tracks. When I first received the speaker plugged everything in absolute perfect sound. Now after 4 or 5 gigs using the same set up (photos attached) It has now developed an annoying humming sound. To try and trace the problem I firstly disconnected the T1. With the master imput volume down to zero and the iPad plugged into the back of the speaker volume...Read More...
