I would say making a water resistant... using the same technologies that Bluetooth speakers use would be GREAT! I am not sure why cheap Bluetooth speakers can be water proof, and Bose portable PA gear is not... in fact this is true of all pro audio powered speakers. One idea I had was to have the power cord on the bottom and perhaps have the F1 have a lip around the bottom of the speaker so that if rain was blowing in on the side the power cord would be safely tucked up out of the way...Read More...

Two F1 812 systems added to L1 Model II with Yamaha board - How do I connect?

I currently own L1 Model 2 with B2 and T1. Yeh - that’s it! The biggest plus, particularly for self mixing acoustic acts, is the mix on stage is identical to the front mix and it gives a lot of confidence.Read More...

Clarify the rear panel signal/clip and limit lights?

Just trying to understand... I have an F1 main connected to the F1 sub. For a first round of tests, I plugged my iPad into the Main, RCA jacks on Input 2. With the volume on the main input 2 all the way down and the volume on the iPad all the way up, there was a low volume audio coming from the speaker, which I understand to be normal (though to me it seems like a weird thing, why can't it just be silent with the volume all the way down?). At this point there was no green signal/clip light...Read More...
You said you had the iPad all the way up (100%). Try testing it with the iPad at half volume (50%) and see if that is a better mix.Read More...

Live Room Setup on F1’s

Hi. I have a 600 sq ft live room for my band. We rehearse and record in there. I was wondering. Would we be able to pull it off by just running all the instruments through 2 F1 Model 812 + 2 F1 Power Subs with just preamps / pedals and get rid of the combo amps? We use 2 guitars, 1 bass, and digital piano + vocals. Drums are player acousticallyRead More...

Discrepancy? in manual for settings with F1 and Sub "full range" vs. "with sub"

So I run a single F1 Model 812 main and an F1 sub. On page 10 of the manual, it says "EQ. "with sub" setting is recommended when using when using with F1 Subwoofer. So that makes sense, I have a Sub, so I should set it to "With Sub" rather than "Full Range" On page 12, it says under "signal input to F1 Model 812 Loudspeaker, F1 model 812 output to F1 Subwoofer" to set the EQ to either Full range or With Sub. The With Sub has a * footnote saying "provides more bass extension". But then when I...Read More...
I often run my 812s in full range when the volume is moderate and I have them set between 11 o'clock and 12 o'clock. But when rhe volume has to go up to beast mode and I need to go beyond 12 o'clock setting, I switch to with sub.Read More...

500 person outdoor event

I'm running 2-F1 tops and 2-F1 bottoms wondering if this is acceptable horse power for this gig? Does anyone know what the typical max is for 1 set up before needing more? Will be running 5 piece band.Read More...
I have four F1 stacks and I would rate them of handling 500-600 person crowd. I like having headroom. BTW this rating is for an outdoor venues. I think for two stacks it would depend how much stage volume the band has. The less eaten up by the stage the more you have upfront. I have done several live sound/band shows indoors with two stacks and felt there was enough headroom for a 300 person crowd. On a side note I think just like with any power amp the F1s system may be capable of more...Read More...

Running multiple F1 systems side by side

Does anyone have any experience with running multiple F1 systems side by side? We own 8 of these systems, and had an outdoor event that was supposed to only be around 1,100 people.. When we realized that it would be closer to 4k people, we panicked and used EVERYTHING WE HAD lol. The concert went smooth and sounded great, but I knew that we'd be introducing a nice amount of cone filtering due to the last minuet judgement call. There was some slight phasing issues, but not so much that we had...Read More...
Considering the premium that Bose charges for this product, I would look for a proper line array or tops that can be arrayed to increase coverage and output.Read More...

F1 subs "rumbling"

Nick from New Zealand
Hi team, Posting this on behalf of my friend Shaun. Live singer with a piano keyboard and backing tracks playing through some sort of small mixer. Dual F1 system, running out of mixer into sub, then out of sub into 812 top. Either left/right stereo, or dual mono - not sure. Old wooden floor, sounds like the floor was raised and on foundations, so basically "hollow" underneath - but not unique, pretty standard stuff for an old venue in New Zealand. Shaun has done about 50 shows with the F1,...Read More...
Sounds like something simple that could be challenging to diagnose. I would look for things like 60Hz loops, feedback from mics, etc. If possible, try to replicate the configuration using the same equipment, its not unheard of for little things like bad connectors, worn out cables, etc. to introduce noise into the system. Given that EQ didn't help, the culprit may be the mixer itself or somewhere past it towards the speaker inputs.Read More...

F1 subs hot and weak??

jdbassentertainment.com
We recently performed at a High School prom. We ran the sound (2 F1 Stacks) off one breaker and the lights off the another. We put both subs under our table that was skirted. Typically the mixer I use (Denon X900) doesn’t have enough output to make signal lights flash red... they remain green. So typically we run the volume wide open giving the subs as much volume as possible. The dance went great and the F1 System sounded great as always, but towards the end of the dance my wife told me...Read More...
You'll want to make sure that the F1 Subs get plenty of ventilation. If the subs can't get rid of the heat in an enclosed area, it will create a vicious cycle where the voice coils and amplifier modules will heat up causing an increase in resistance and consequently less output despite the same gain setting. Did you test the system at the maximum level you planned to play at before the guests arrived? If you're seeing red signal/clip indicators, your signal from your mixer is too hot. If...Read More...

F1 812 and sub settings

I run a left right and sub out of my X32 mixer. Subs are not wired to the 812's. What should the settings be on the 812's for signal input and EQ? What should the settings be on the subs for line output EQ? Thanks in advance!Read More...
@cstew1923, I would recommend using the "With Sub" on the 812 and "Thru" on the F1 Sub and feed the output from the F1 sub to the 812. There's no reason to crossover in the X32 in my experience. Bose did a great job tuning the active crossover configurations on these speakers for you. You won't be able to do much better without more time, effort and equipment.Read More...

1000 Watt????

I just purchased a F1 full range speaker. It is advertised as 1000 Watts but I have never found specs stating 1000 watts RMS. Is the 1000 watt rating RMS or Peak? I ask this question because my L1 Model II system is rated at 250 + 250 RMS wattage and it is night and day louder then the F1. What gives??Read More...
@WaltR, you'll find that the F1 Loudspeaker is considerably louder than the L1 except perhaps at distance as @ST mentioned due to the line source array configuration of the L1 family of products. The power ratings are irrelevant in light of the performance specifications. With powered speakers, power levels are really just to help you ensure that you have enough AC power to run the speakers at full-volume. "Peak" Power and "Peak" SPL specifications for amplifiers are generally used to help...Read More...

Hi Roger, The behaviour of the F1 Model 812 SIGNAL/CLIP light is different than on some other Bose Portable PA equipment. Flashes up to a full second indicate you may be approaching clipping. You can push up the volume until you see solid red on the LEDs, then back down a bit. Also, the limiters are sophisticated and will protect the systems. In other words, feel free to turn up the volume. If you don't hear a problem, you probably don't have one. STRead More...

F1 Subwoofer Bag from Bose

I feel pretty dumb here trying to get this cover on the best way. Is there supposed to be a top or bottom? Mine is missing the cutout for the handle on one end, which makes it super awkward to carry, so still can't figure out what the best way to put this thing on. This is the authorized genuine Bose cover.Read More...
Personally, I like the Bose bags. Every one of us who has been in the business for a long time knows how speakers can get bumped, banged around, and scuffed up in transport. These bags, while expensive, do a great job of keeping my investment safe from getting all banged up. They ARE a bit awkward trying to get them zipped up because of the tight fit at times. And I also had a problem with the zipper snapping off. I used a key ring to replace it and it works fine.Read More...

Testing the F1 Model 812 mid/treble cones

Hi there, is there any way of knowing if one (or more) of the treble cones has blown in the F1 tops? I'm not expecting it to happen because of the circuitry being far better these days however I remember frequently taking 802's down in clubs and finding only half the cones were working. It's difficult just to listen to them individually because of the position of them in the array, so do Bose have any way of telling during servicing which cones are blown without dismantling the whole unit?Read More...

Recommended Height of Bose F1 with Tripod

As I only have two Bose F1 Tops, I set the height with Tripod to 7.5 feet (peak of the F1) at venue (L:50 feet X W:25 feet), when I observed it at the back row of the venue. It looks ~70% of F1 are covered by persons. Hence, I am planning to lift it up to 8.5 feet (near our false ceiling). Therefore, I would like to ask the recommended height of F1 with Tripod. Thanks KenRead More...
@Ryan Martindale I have found that 14ft apart works very well. I am not a huge fan of speakers on stands anymore (unless the gig is small or it is absolutely needed). So I always try to find ways to not take away from the aesthetics of the stack that BOSE intended. I know they didn't think of every possible situation, but if we put our heads together, we can collectively come up with sound solutions.Read More...

F1 System hookup with QSC k10 Stereo or mono ?

Hi ST I`ve just purchased a new Bose F1 system & am looking forward to taking it out on its virgin voyage this weekend Just need a bit of hand holding with a couple of aspects I`m only running one F1 system & using a TS8….also planning to use a QSC k10 for foldback So out of the mains of the TS8 I`m going into the back of the F1 SUB line inputs then of course an XLR goes into the F1 top box ….. I`ve been going out of the line out of the F1 (top box) into the QSC should I be panning...Read More...

Speaker placement

I have a pair of F1 speaker systems (including 2 812's and 2 subs). I have 4 big school proms coming up, each of them in a wide open gym. Assuming I will be placed near the wall, but in the center of the gym, with both speaker systems facing out toward the crowd, what is the best possible placement for them? Should they both be STRAIGHT out, or would it be better to aim them out in a V-shaped angle? Which setup would cause more noise cancellation issues? Also, since I'm on the floor (not a...Read More...
Hi Tony, Great. Thanks for the background information. That's helpful. The horizontal dispersion of the F1 Model 812 is 100 degrees for the mid-high frequences. The low frequencies are omnidirectional. Keeping the horizontal dispersion in mind, aim the F1 Model 812s so they cover where the people will be with the least amount of overlap. There's no perfect way to do both so there will always be some overlap. The potential for cancellation is in the area where the sound fields of the two F1...Read More...

Dents in F1 812 front mesh covers

I stupidly let someone else carry one of the F1 tops on Saturday and now there are dents in the bottom two panels on one of the speakers. The metal is very soft and bends easily. F1 Model 812 without the F1 Subwoofer

A friend of mine plays some pretty big solo acoustic shows and his L1 M2 with B2 and T1 just can't keep up. He's currently using another brand speaker out front and the L1 M2 behind him, but he's not really happy with this arrangement. We were discussing this and I was wondering if using a pair of F1 Model 812s without the F1 Subwoofer would do the would be better than adding another L1 M2. That said, I have a couple of questions: Can you use the F1 Model 812 "stand alone" without the...Read More...
Hi there ww did use L1 behind us and F1 system out front (either with or without subs depending on gig). However, the L1 packed up and Bose were not interested in even looking at it + local fixers couldn’t. Sickening that one problem with amp section means two bass units + column are useless. Good news is we bought two Alto Professional TX208 Powered Loudspeakers for £180 and they are superb. No front fill, but not needed with F1s.Read More...

F1 - No ToneMatch port?

ST
Hi Joel, quote: Originally posted by Joelheck: A price schedule would be nice. I know they don't reveal any advanced info, but I would imagine a mixer of some sort is probably coming.
