Which controller is acceptable for 802/502 setup?

Hi there, I a newbie to this forumn and know very little about setting up a pa. I have just bought 2 x 802 mk2 speakers and 2 x 502BP subs. I know I need the controller but was wondering would it be ok to use the 502c or 402c controller instead of a 802c? Will one controller be enough for all 4 speakers? Will I need two seperate power amps to run it all? what would be the recommended size & impedance? I appreciate any help at all. Thanks.Read More...

Question on Model I line out

dberch
Greetings! I will be using my L1 Model I with one B1 Sub at an small indoor theater sloped seating. The stage is raised to the point that the heads of the people in the front few rows are actually level with or below the stage floor. I'm planning to set up the Bose as ussual, behind my Duo and centered. I'll then run line out to my old PA, and will have the mains on the floor on each side FOH at ear level for the folks in the front. I use chennel 1 and 2 for my guitar and vocals, and plug my...Read More...
We also play frequently set up a lot closer to it. Just happend to have more space at thhis venue. I play every other Friday on a much smaller stage where it's nearly touching my stool! Mic is still pointed right at it and I can get plenty of volume. Are you having problems?Read More...

system setup

Proud owner/operator of a new L1 system Model II, Wow, lots to learn. We have four vocal mic's, southern gospel quartet music, into a mixer then into the tonematch. We often perform with a male choir group, and the L1 system needs to be set up in front of the choir. Would it be a problem to take the top speaker module off for the choir performance, so as to not block out the choir performers, and then simply re-attach the top speaker for the quartet performance. I would mute all the inputs...Read More...
Thanks for your innput. I am hesitant to power down the whole system for removing the top speaker. With the input channels muted there is no audio noise when the top speaker is removed. I take it the computer still recognizes when the top speaker is reattached for the performance. so our setup and sound adjustment is done with both speakers, than the top speaker removed for the choral group which does not need amplification or may sometimes use the house system, then we reattach the top...Read More...

Classic Rock Setup Help Needed

I have a 5-piece classic rock group that plays Journey, Zeppelin, Styx, etc... Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keyboardist and Lead Vocalist. I have access to 4 L1 Model II's with T1's each with double B1's. I would like to use 3 of them if possible and wonder what the best setup is. Everybody sings but the guitarist. we like to not only hear the kick drum but "feel" it as well. Can you make some recommendations for me. If I had to use all 4 systems I could but would really like to do it with 3. The...Read More...

Two L1s with mixer

I’m aware that L1s are intended to be used as personal systems, but I also want to use two L1s as PA through a mixer. Taking a left and right main outs from mixer (soundcraft LX7ii), what inputs on the L1 (system 1) do you recommend and what’s the best way to set up the gain structure from the mixer to L1s? ThanksRead More...
Hello Alex T, Thank you for your post. You can certainly connect your Soundcraft to two L1 systems. If you are using the Model 1 system you can connect to Ch3 or Ch4 on both systems via a 1/4" cable or XLR to ¼”. If you are using 2 Model II systems then you would connect via 1/4" or XLR to ¼” to the single analog input on the power stand for the Model II. As far as gain staging, it is recommended to set your channel and Master faders at unity gain and adjust the trim or input gain knobs at a...Read More...

Tonematch Preset Query

Hi Guys, I have just purchased a Bose L1 model II system with a single base pack and a T1 Tonematch engine. I am amazed at the sound quality. I have upgraded the firmware on the Tonematch and L1 but I am confused as to the latest version of the presets that should be on the Tonematch. Currently my Tonematch unit is set to presets version 1.0 - Is this the latest version available that is compatible with the L1 model II ? Presets 2.0 and 3.0 seem to refer to L1 model 1 and classic. Can you...Read More...
Dear tmc2005, The presets that you have on your T1 Tonematch Audio Engine, are the most current. Version 1.0 is the latest and greatest. Make sure to check back, on www.bose.com/musicians (then click on downloads), periodically in case we ever do update them. Have a great day, and we are really glad you are enjoying your L1!! -Eric-at-BoseRead More...

Request for better L1 System Product Support Options

JohnNell
Dear Bose Corp: I love the L1/Model II system! I love the style, engineering and sound of my system! However, in my opinion, Bose Corp could do a much better job of technical support for a hardware failure of any component in the system. I recently had my L1/MII powerstand fail. The blue light would not come on when the switch was flipped to ON. My system is less than a year old. I called Tech Support. A nice gentleman answered and seemed sympathetic to my problem. He suggested I try a...Read More...
John!!!!!!! So happy that your turnaround time was excellent. I think Bose has developed a faster sense of urgency in turnaround time since "MY" blue light experience. The short and the long and the thereof is that "my" blue light is still coming on and it's been about two months now since I got it back the second time. I am sooo happy for you and thank Bose for really putting the metal to the petal on your repair. AS for me I am ordering a L1C ( compact) to use as a backup and for small key...Read More...

L1 Classic top, is it compatable with a L1 Model 1 base?

Hi there. I have a BOSE system L1 Model 1 and a sales guy told me that I had a L1 Classic Speakers top. He wasn't sure if they were compatable. Are they? I'm having problems getting it working. I'd really like to check out what everyone keeps talking about. How cool the Bose is!!!!! Thanks in advance for your help. It means a lot!Read More...
Hi WhosTHEbose, Welcome to the forum! Classic and Model 1 power stands and speaker arrays are indeed not compatible. A few questions: Where did you buy your L1? How many L1's are enough for a crowd of 600 to 800

Hi, my name is Teddy and I am doing research before I get the L1 system(s). I will be using this system for very large events (600 to 800 people or a little more). The setting of the event would be as shown in the fig I attached. The circles are tables and on each table there will be 6 to 8 people dining. So after the dinner, there will be a dance session. At a given time, there will be 200+ people dancing on the dance floor. If you have seen "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" movie, then that's the...Read More...
Hi, Thanks a lot guys. Your advices help so much. Now I feel like I will make educated decisions. I will update my status with possible questions once I purchased the systems. If you guys can point to a posting that you think is best, I would appreciate it. Thanks again, -TeddyRead More...

Sharing B1's between two Classics and T1 vs R1 Volume Dynamics

John S
Two questions. I scanned the wiki and may have overlooked the answer. Is there a good/recommended way to "share" a singel B1 used in conjunction with two L1 classic systems? I tried taking the bass line out from the "non-B1" system into one of the inputs on the other "with-B1" system, but that produces less than desireable results. Is there another/better way? Question two pertains to using an L1 classic with a T1 AND an R1 attached. The wiki says I should not use an R1 when using a T1, but...Read More...
Hi John, That is a novel attempt on your part. The only thing that comes to mind that may provide a better result would be the make a dummy load plug to fool the "non-B1" system into believing that there is a B1 connected. For this you will need an NL4FC or NL4FX (newer version) and a 10k ohm resistor. The resistor is connected to pins -2 and +2 of the Speakon connector, pins -1 and +1 won't have anything connected to it. The Speakon NL4 is then plugged into the "non-B1" system's amp three...Read More...

How to attach sound clips to a post.

Hi there, It has been quite a while since I have posted on this forum but back when I was a regular 'poster', I was always threatening to post some examples of my music on here. Well, I'm now back and I am currently working on a small collection of music that I play and would eventually like to place some examples on here to get some feedback off fellow L1 users. Is there anywhere already exsisting on the site where I could get instructions on how to do this because I tried a search and it...Read More...

Need Help Tweaking Live Setup

Hi! I am having trouble with my setup. I play solo acoustic shows through my Bose L1 Model 2 with the ToneMatch and a single B1. My guitar is a Breedlove Focus Premier Dreadnought with L.R. Baggs Dual Element System. I downloaded the updates to the ToneMatch so I have the Breedlove setting. In live setting the vocals are flawless and loud with little feedback issues. The guitar however feedsback and is overly bassy and simply does not produce enough volume. Also, the L1 hisses a bit. Are...Read More...
Hi Eric, You should be able to get good sound without any additional equipment. Tone / EQ controls are in a sense gain controls for their assigned frequency ranges. It is easy to turn one or more too high and cause feedback in that range. Select preset for guitar. Try starting with all zEQ controls flat. (O) Set gain. Adjust volume to performance level. Adjust your EQ to eliminate what you don't want to hear, rather than turning up what you want to hear. Many acoustic guitars are midrange...Read More...

B1 Bass Module out during gig

Hi, At an outdoor show last night the B1 Bass Module went out in the first 20 min. The PS1 L1 worked, but the sound was obviously not as good. I have since tested the Sub speaker and it does work when powered by another amp. Using an adapter I tested the blue bose sub cable and it worked from another power amp to the sub. I only know of 1 fuse for the unit so I assume there is not a separate fuse for the sub. Have you had trouble with the power amp going out? Thanks, Danny Britt Austin, TX...Read More...
Hi Danny B., Thanks you for your post and I'm sorry to hear of your B1 issue! The first question I would ask would be regarding your power LED light. Does it turn an amber/orange or red color when you turn it on? Or, does it just show a solid green? This would indicate whether or not you have an issue at the amplifier level. Please let us know. Thanks,Read More...

4 person soul/gospel group, sometimes with band.

Hi guys, I'm trying to figure out the best configuration/combo of model 1's and 2's for the following: We're a 4 person vocal group, performing often just the 4 of us plus my acoustic guitar, and equally often with a full backing band consisting of keys, bass, drumset, and sax. I'd love to do this as cost effectively as possible, but as smart as possible also. Any thoughts on how to best construct a Bose multi-unit system would be really appreciated. thanks, SA RobRead More...

Warning to all Bose cat owners; possible disaster!

Dr. Dad
I use my L1 as a practice and performance amp for my guitars. I like to leave it set up in my practice room. I recently acquired at T1 to complement my Model I, and have enjoyed using it. I have been leaving it attached to the column between practice sessions, using the handy mounting arm. The L1 is (unfortunately, as it turns out) right beside a console table that holds drums, picks, and my iPod. We have five cats. Curiosity got the better of one of them (one of the chubby ones, I'm...Read More...

Best Countryman preset for spoken word. T1 / L1 Classic.

John S
The issue is getting enough volume without feeding back. This is for our church that meets in a school gym. Carpeted, thankfully, but still very reverby. Pastor uses countryman mic in conjunction with mid-grade quality Sure wireless transmitter/receiver. We used to use L1 Classic Preset #2 (version 2.0 presets) and run it fairly flat, but we'd cut the highs a bit on the R1 remote control. Recently, we purchased a T1 that sits at the "back" of the church. We plug the pastor's Sure /Countryman...Read More...

Hi Brian, We have similar music taste and style. Enjoyed the samples on your site. Let me say that some mics are better than others, some have characteristics that seem to work better with the L1, but I am not one who believes that you have to have a certain mic to get good sound. The combination of preset, zEQ, and Para EQ give you the tools you need to shape your sound to what ever it is that you like. Your recorded voice is very clean and your diction is very good, the L1 will shine when...Read More...

Hi, priasedude! Welcome to your first post on this forum! re: channel 1 not working -- is it working now? As troberts notes above, if you have anything (other than a true effects device with a Send and Return signal!) plugged into the Channel 1 or 2 "Insert" jack (1/4"), you'll get nothing from the XLR input. However, it seems that you did try various combinations; the only other thought I have is that maybe the Trim knob got turned down ...Read More...

Half Stack

Can anyone enlighten me as to using a half stack Model 2, as the place we're playing in on Sunday has a really low ceiling. I tried it in place today - No way Jose'! I'm sure I read somewhere than when using a half stack you had to put a Speakon plug in the spare B1 port to balance it. I tried this today and it didn't seem to make any difference, any ideas. Hi Paul We have successfully used a half stack set up, and followed the advice from this forum which is also included in the Wiki.
