Using L1 Model I's as Mains w/ 16 channel mixer

Hi, Maybe you can forward some much needed advice. We have been hired to record and run FOH for a Senior Recital at a local university. The graduating senior is performing on the grand piano with vocals and has included 3 back-up vocals, electric guitar, bass guitar, acoustic drums, string quartet, 8 horns and is providing 2- L1 model I for sound if we can utilize them. Since this needs to be recorded we are bringing an iMac, Presonus preamps, a splitter snake (so we can send direct to...Read More...

L1 Model II with dual bass without Tonematch Mixer Question- New User

I bought the L1 Model II to use during breathwork sessions. Basically, breathwork sessions are like Djing for folks who are lying down on a mat breathing in and out until they begin to enter altered states of consciousness and have powerful experiences. 20-50 folks in a fairly large room. The music is an integral part of the process. It must be full, immersive and a felt experience. I didn't get the tone match. As a former DJ, I have a very nice pioneer mixing board that I was hoping to use.Read More...
Hello Soullab, Welcome to the L1 forum, and thanks for your post! I can assist you with your questions. To use a mixer with the L1 model II with no Tonematch, your mixer should have a mono output. You can connect that output directly to the analog input on the stand of the system. If you want to connect a stereo source like an iPad, the best way to connect it is to run it through a mixer so that the mixer will mix it down to mono. (The T1 can accomplish this too.) The T1 has a lot to offer...Read More...

Bose L1 Module II +Tonematch

Just bought this system and want to use it with a 6 piece band. Have no idea how to hook up with 16 channel Mackie, as our set up is this' Drums with bass drum akg and 1 overhead shure 57 mic. Bass guitar using ampeg amp, 3 fender guitars with pedals and fender amps, Roland keys with roland key amp, plus 5 shure 58 mics.Do I connect instrument amps with line out tomixer and then mixer to tonematch or L1. Please, any help would be appreciated. I'm not a techie so please give step by step help...Read More...
Hello barry4285, Welcome to the forum, I can help you here. There are multiple ways to do this but I'll give you the most straightforward approach. Since the T1 Tonematch only has 5 inputs, the easiest way would be to run all mics and line outs of amps to your Mackie mixer. Then you would run left(mono) main out of the Mackie to 1/4 inch input on the L1 Power stand that says Analog input. Feel free to use a balanced cable here. The input on the L1 is balanced. This setup is bypassing the T1...Read More...

DAC in the L1 model II vs DAC in the T1

Since the model II can take the digital signal from the T1, I was very curious: Is the digital to audio converter in the Model II the same or of identical sound quality as the DAC in the T1?Read More...
Hi Brysava, I just wanted to let you know I got word back from engineering, and I can confirm that the D/A converter in the L1 model II is identical to the D/A converter in the Tonematch Engine. Let us know if there's anything else we can help you with, and thanks for your post!Read More...

BT2 & iphone

Greetings. Just purchased a new Bose BT headset, love it. One of the things I was looking forwad to was interfacing with my iphone 4s for non-call related audio.....i.e. music, videos etc. It works flawlessly for calls, but won't connect for music. According to my iphone it's connected & transmitting but nothing comes over headset. I don't know if this an issue with the iphone or the headset. I'm stumped. TIA.Read More...

Hi diggerbarnz, I can help you here. There are multiple ways to do this but I'll give you the most straightforward approach. If you are using one T1, you can take the master output of the T1 into the channel 1 input of your first L1 system using a 1/4" cable. Then, you can make a connection from the line out of that channel into the channel 1 input of the second system using an XLR (microphone) cable. If you are using two T1s, you do the exact same thing with the second T1, except run it...Read More...

Need help with setup L1s for Music Festival

We are producing a Music Festival in Texas in May. There will be multiple instruments, mics, etc, via a 32 channel mixer. I have four L1s available, and think that this setup will work. From left to right on stage: L1 #1- Drum and Bass L1 #2- Acoustic guitars and LEAD vox L1 #3- Lead guitars and VOX L1 #4- Keyboards and violin/mandolin Attached is a spreadsheet. ANY FEED BACK IS WELCOME. How do we pan each column? Will this setup provide a great mix, without the need for on-stage monitors We...Read More...
Hi rhhtexas, A four foot speakon cable is supplied with the B1. You are welcome to use a longer speakon cable as long as it is the 4-conductor (or 4-wire, designated NL4) type, as opposed to the more common 2-conductor type. As far a sound quality goes, if you place the B1 too far away from the L1, the bass may de-couple and sound like it is coming from a different location. The exact length where that would start to occur may vary, but you would probably want no more than 6-8 feet between...Read More...

System for meetings

How do you think your L1 system would work in this configuration verses a pair of Mackie 450s? Where would you place them I would have to feed the L1's from my 24 chan mixer. Since you are looking for an installed system, our Professional Systems division is probably better suited to assist you. You can reach Bose Pro at (877) 428-2673. Using 2 L1 Model Is

New discussion for Karma King quote: Originally posted by BobD-at-Bose: Hi Larry, Welcome to the forum! Since the L1 systems output mono, if the mixer has two mono outputs, connect one mono output to each L1. Or, if the mixer has four outputs, you can certainly connect it as you described. These adjustments can instead be made...Read More...
Hi Karma King, Welcome to the forum! Any of the four channels on the L1 Model I powerstands can be used to connect the mixer. Balanced connections can help to reduce noise / interference that might be picked up typically over long runs of cable from one device to the next. If you are using long runs of cable from the mixer to the L1 or are experiencing issues with noise, try a balanced connection. Thank you,Read More...

R1 multi-control?

Dear Differentspin, Let me first welcome you to the L1 Forum, it is great to have you! The R1 remote will only work with one system, both of the 7 pin midi outputs will work, but they would not work with two systems at the same time. And we have no plans to make a singular controller that would work with both. It's a great idea though. Thank you for the post, and have a great day! Eric-at-BoseRead More...

T1 mixer with L1 compact

I am a solo performer...I do not play an instrument but from time to time will have the need to accomodate other artists....my question is, is the T1 mixer for me....I use mostly CD+G tracks in my show....can the T1 change the key of my CD-G track? what else does it do that would add to my show?Read More...
Hi Michey C, Thanks for your post. I can help you out. The T1 has many features it can offer. First off, however, it is not a CD+G player, so you would want to use a karaoke playback device (which you could then connect to the T1) and the playback device should have a key change / transpose function on it. As far as what the T1 can offer you, it has the ability for you to plug in multiple microphones and other devices, and you can affect each channel separately. You have the ability to use...Read More...

using a second bass unit with the L1

4northacoustic 2
Is the only difference between the Bose L1 single bass and the L1 double bass simply going from 1 to 2 bass units or is there an output difference in the L1 double-bass unit? I would like our bass player to go direct through our L1 with 2 bass units, but I don't want to push the L1 unit too hard. Our volume is not loud, but I've always been a bit leery about using a bass guitar directly into the L1 system (this, coming from an acoustic player). Do you think using a an electric bass guitar...Read More...
Hi Kory, The L1 is certainly capable of amplifying an electric bass and even has a bank of dedicated presets. You are correct too that the only difference between the single and double bass packages is the additional B1 bass module included with the double bass package. The second B1 enhances the system’s low frequency response and is generally recommended when connecting bass instruments or drums to the L1. I hope that helps!Read More...

Hi Chris, I’ll try to help with the question regarding mono versus stereo. Often times, live mixes will be mixed in mono so that, for example, if an audience member is on right side of the room he is not missing the audio that would be coming from the left speaker on the other side of the room. In mono, no matter which speaker the listener is near, he will hear the full mix. For info on your Bose Professional products, however, please contact our Professional support team at (800) 966-2673...Read More...

Sending channel output from one L1M2 to a second L1M2 via Tonematch?

In our neverending quest to achieve satisfactory sound with our system, we are constantly battling our female vocalist's lack of volume. We find having to turn up her channel so much and the gain so much that her vox channel feeds back when she's not blocking the mic from the tower. We're certainly not scientific in our guesses, but as best we can tell, we determined that one of the electric guitars which was sharing her M2 was "dimming" her vox. Perhaps it was needing more of the...Read More...

Soundcraft 124FX to L1 Classic with XLR snake

124FX has 1/4" balanced out. Snake is XLR only. Should I use 1/4"-F to XLR-M adapter or should I use 1/4"-F to XLR-M transformer to send signal to L1 Classic ? I would like to send to Ch 1 or Ch 2 in order to use presets.Read More...
Hello Jerrold Welcome to the forum! In your case you can use balanced cables all around. You would use an adapter or short cable that is female xlr to male balanced 1/4 inch. This would be used to connect to the mixers main outputs to the snakes cable end that should be male xlr. Now you would use a regular xlr cable to go from the box end of the snake to channel 1 and 2 on the L1. Let us know if you have any more questions, and thanks for your post.Read More...

Pair of L1 Compacts for Old Time String Band?

Need to avoid as much lifting as possible. I am considering the L1 Compacts in a pair (along with a Behringer mixer and T1?) for an Old Time String Band: upright bass & vocal acoustic guitar & vocal fiddle & vocal open back banjo & vocal (all sm57s and 58s) We would be playing mostly small rooms or yards for 40-125 folks, and likely be limited to shallow stage. I would like the pair of Compacts to serve both PA and as monitors. Though I do have a decent powered monitor...Read More...
Hi redhairedboy, Welcome to the forum! We typically recommend a single Compact for crowds up to about 100 people. This number can vary depending on certain factors, like how attentively everyone is listening and room size. As you said, two Compacts will certainly give you greater flexibility. You could place both Compacts in different areas to get greater coverage in the venue, especially when performing for larger audiences. The L1s project sound at almost 180-degrees and they keep a...Read More...

using a mixer with the L1

4northacoustic 2
Can you give me some guidance on how to best use a mixer with my L1? I don't understand much of the terminology, i.e., balanced v. unbalanced, etc.. I play as 1/2 of an acoustic duet. We need 5 channels so I use my Behringer mixer. However, I'm not sure of the best way to achieve optimal sound. I'm not sure whether the mixer should be plugged into the "channel" or the "line in" port. Also, should I plug the L1 into the "left/mono" or into the "monitor" of the mixer. There doesn't seem to be...Read More...

which model should I purchase?

Hi, I'm a musician thinking of getting a bose L1 system. From reading the forums and checking the web and youtubes I'm convinced this is the right purchase. Hi Brett, Although the T1 ToneMatch is not a computer recording interface, you can make use of it for computer recording. Over USB, the T1 can send audio to a computer or it can receive audio from a computer – but it can’t do both simultaneously. So, if you want to put instruments through it to send them to a computer for recording, select the T1 as your input device in the recording software’s control panel. A different device would need to be selected as the software’s output device to...Read More...
