Use descriptive words in the title of your request: for example, "Help with ToneMatch presets". Tell us which model L1 system you are using: Classic, Model I, Model II, Compact, PackLite. Supplying the first six digits of your serial number will allow us to identify the model if you're unsure. Tell us as much detail about the situation: what kind of venue, what kind of set up on stage, etc.Read More...

Concert setting/way too loud for us, audience complaining of not hearing

Tried my L1 is for the first time live. A big room, but not huge - 180 people or so. Yet, to get loud enough for the audience, 1. the white noise out of the system was truly obnoxious, and 2. the sound was searingly painful for the musicians. We were five ft from the system because that is the space we had. Also had feedback trouble. But the main problem was - how are we going to stand how loud it is for us when we're in a space like that? (Which is why we got the system.) What to do? The...Read More...

Proper configuration

I just purchased my first Bose system, according to UPS tracking it should arrive tomorrow. I purchased 2 L1 Model 2 with a T1 Tonematch and 2 B2 subs. I will use them in my DJ setup with the output from a Denon MC6000 mixer in a mono arrangement. I DJ mainly weddings and some smaller parties usually around 200 guests. What would be the most efficient/proper way for me to route the input? Should I just bypass the T1 and send a signal to each L1? Thanks in advance. Dan HaleyRead More...
Yes, but it's not critical for DJ work. For a band, it helps to have the L1 behind the performers so that it can be used as a monitor. So if you can, having the system behind you will allow you to really hear what the audience is hearing. If the placement doesn't work for the venue though, you can move wherever it fits best. Condenser mics with L1 system

I've been told that the L1 portable PA system does not come with phantom power for use with a condenser mic. I often used such mics for use with bluegrass vocal applications; with larger sound systems apparently one can purchase units that will provide the necessary juice for a condenser, but I am wondering if leaving it off the L1 was done on purpose because such mics might present feedback problems with the L1 functioning essentially as both a monitor and a main sound system. Could you...Read More...
Hi Peter, Thank you for your question. It's true that in general, condenser mics are more likely to produce feedback than a dynamic. You can use a condenser in conjunction with an L1; you'd just have to be a bit more careful with gain staging and positioning. I've talked with many customers who do use condensers successfully. As you pointed out, none of the current L1s have phantom power built directly into the system. The T1 ToneMatch mixer , however, does have phantom available for mic...Read More...

L1 1 Classic - Power LED flashing and CH1 & CH2 flashing Green to Red

I was essentially just running the Main out from a mixer in our practice room to the CH1, quite low volume as it is just vocals going through it for a practice room (and they are already going through foldback for the singers, this is more for the musicians to hear the vocals), when one day I turned the unit on and I got this error: The power LED glows orange-red for a small warm up time, at the same time CH1 & CH2 LED is Red, then after about 5 seconds the Power LED flashed green/off...Read More...

Best ToneMatch Settings for lecture

I provide continuing education workshops for mental health and legal professionals. I have a new L1 Model II system with ToneMatch. Any suggestions for the best settings for simply voice lectures? Also, must I use the bass speaker? This is for audiences of up to 100 generally, but as many as 200 on occasion. Thanks for any help you can give.Read More...
Hello John, Thank you for the question. I would keep things simple by choosing an appropriate ToneMatch preset and then not giving too much worry to any other settings on the T1. The preset isn't a requirement actually, but it's helps to give the best possible sound. If all you did was plug in your microphone and turn up the volume, I think you'll be more than happy with the quality. Everything else is icing on the cake. For the ToneMatch preset, choose a microphone preset that most closely...Read More...

Hello djrears, The F1 812 speakers do have optional mounting brackets. (Note that the F1 Subwoofer isn't designed to be mounted/suspended.) L1 MODEL 11 +T1 BIG NOISE THEN CUT OUT COMPLETEY

I bought a brand new L1 MODEL11 WITH T1 on 4/11/2016 a few weeks ago I had a loss of power on my microphone during a gig but then it was ok so I thought nothing of it , However last night 2/12/2017 after I set up at my gig the system made a loud crackling type noise with no one on stage or near it, I was very worried as I had to start my set shortly after I completed the first half with no problems to my relief but near the end of the second set the system just made a bang and completely...Read More...

Need replacement door for L1 Classic

Saxhound
Hello, Many years since I posted on the old forum. One of the pins broke on the door to one of my L1 units. Is there a replacement part for this? I have the small piece that broke off, but doubt that glueing it will do the trick. As an aside, I still love my classics after 14 years.Read More...

L1 Model II cutting out during performance

I experienced the same thing last night during a live performance. Last night during a performance my ToneMatch lost all sound with the vocals. The vocals completely went out and I had no signal. I play in a three-piece band and we only use one channel for the main vocal and the second channel for stereo guitar. I traced all cables and lines in but could not get a signal in any of the channels using the XLR cables. I then changed out the Mics and the mic and was able to get a signal. I was...Read More...
Hi raylpb, Thanks for writing in and I'm sorry for the trouble. It sounds like there are a few variables here. First, I'd recommend giving us a call to troubleshoot since in this case I think that'll be easier than going back and forth through the forum (877-335-2673). From your description, I think it's safe to rule out the L1 towers/amps themselves as being the issue. It sounds like the guitar continued to play through the system and only the vocals were cutting out. Is the guitar...Read More...

T1 Tone match

I would like to purchase T1 tone match but not sure if it will suit my set up regarding the number of inputs. My band is 2 acoustic guitars, 1 acoustic bass, 3 vocals, and 1 miked up cajon drum. Can I somehow accommodate these into the inputs ? Please advise.Read More...
Hi James, This is a very valid question. To run all those sources through the system, you'll need more channels than the T1 ToneMatch can provide. It's possible to still use the T1 in the setup, but with up to 7 sources, it'd be easier to manage everything with a single, larger mixer. A common way to use the T1 in this type of setup is to have the three vocal mics connected to channels 1-3 on the T1, and then have another mixer buss everything else into channel 4/5 on the T1. This will allow...Read More...

L1 Model 2 cutting out during performance

Hi Guys I recently upgraded to the L1 Model 2, I have used it twice since I bought it two weeks ago, I use the Compacts for most of my gigs but bought the Model 2 for the bigger gigs. I did a gig today in a village hall with around 120 attentive people in a cabaret style format, I know my Compacts would have done the job but I wanted to use the Model 2 to get a feel of it in a bigger venue. The performance was basically wrecked because the Model 2 kept cutting out and I don't know why. The...Read More...

Yamaha Moxf8 and Bose L1 compact Noise

L1 Model 2 Power Stand No Sound after failed Firmware Update

I have an L1 model model 2 with tone match. Last night i did and update of the Firmware, both of the ToneMatch and The L1 Model 2. I appears however that the L1 update was interrupted. I took the system to a memorial function today but to my dismay I couldn’t get sound from the L1 Model 2 and the ToneMatch says that the power stand is not connected. I’ve tired several times to do a power cycle, re-download and redo the update but it has totally failed. Please help I am in Zimbabwe. I had...Read More...
Hi Chris I sent back the second new PS to the UK and they repaired it for free. I’m still stuck with the first one, the 110Volt one which had a failed firmware update, I’ve sent it to South Africa’s Alpha Tech who do Bose products but they seem not to have an idea of what needs to be done. They say the 110V Systems are sensitive to power surges and maybe something else is affected but I know it’s just a failed Firmware Update which can be resolved at a capable service Centre. you had said...Read More...

Music playback not blowing me away on l1s

Hi everyone. I've owned the L1s with B1 and tonematch for a while now. Absolutely great all round except that it doesn't "blow me away" like the store demo did. It feels like the music is only 80% as good as it should be. I've asked in the store and set up the t1 as they said but still not getting the feeling that I should. Don't get me wrong, wherever I gig I always get great comments on the sound of the system from someone in the audience, but I always feel like there should be a bit more...Read More...
Hi Nick. Thank you for your help. After following your advice I think that the problem might be with the soundblaster. As I mentioned that I had persuaded my friend to get an L1 too, he also uses the soundblaster (as this was the original way I was told to link the laptop years ago). He has since linked his laptop to the T1 via the usb and had great results (after changing the channels on PREFS). I shall be trying it out myself and also purchasing an additional B1 for the extra oomph! Thanks...Read More...

Getting both channels to play through L1 system

Good Morning, I have recently purchased an L1 portable system for my classroom and for our concerts. Occasionally, we do listening exercises from the computer. There are times where only one channel is playing from the computer and the other channel sounds like it's coming out of a cave. How do I get both channels to play out of the one system and sound the same? Thank you for your time and help. Barry Snodgrass Director of Bands Sweet Grass County High SchoolRead More...
Hi Barry, The cave effect is usually caused from a stereo signal being connected to a balanced mono input. Basically what happens is that because the input is expecting a balanced mono signal, it knocks the two sides of the stereo signal out of phase. That results in a very hollow or reverberant sound. Now, when you say "channel", do you have two sources playing into the L1 system, or are you referring to the two channels of the stereo signal (Left and Right)? From your description, it...Read More...

L1 with b2 bass and Bose L1 Compact Portable Line Array

My question is, can the two be connected to get stereo effect? I also have the tone matchRead More...
Hi Royela, Thank you for your question, and I apologize for the delayed response. The short answer is yes, you can use two L1s to produce a stereo signal. You'll need a stereo source/mixer to accomplish this (the T1 ToneMatch is a mono mixer). But, I think what you're really asking is if you can connect two systems together for a fuller sound, not necessarily stereo. I'm assuming you have an L1 Model II and that you are using the standard "T1 cable" to connect the T1 ToneMatch to your L1...Read More...

Channel 4/5 on my T1 too quiet for maxed out iPhone

I just got my T1 today and am using it for the first time. I use my iPhone for lyrics and backing tracks. I tried plugging it into Channel 4/5 and even with the phone volume and trim all the way up, it's too quiet. If I plug it into Channel 2 or 3 it works just fine, but 4 or 5 and I can barely hear it. This isn't a huge deal, as I can plug the phone directly into my L1 Compact, or into channel 2 or 3 when I'm only using one mic. But it would be nice to control everything in one spot. Do I...Read More...

L1 II with B2 Bass or F1 with Subwoofer - whats best for my application?

I just put a deposit on 2 - L1 II with B2 subs and I'm still debating the F1's with Subs. The room is 20 deep by 30 feet wide (in my house) We use the system to run, guitars, Electric drums, microphones and backing tracks through for the band. We like to play loud but want it clear and the existing PA we have doesn't sound good enough. Please let me know what is the best setup for my application. ThanksRead More...
Hi bgabel, Thank you for your question. I'll start by saying that I believe either system would work fine for your application. In my mind there are a couple of points to consider when deciding between an L1 Model II or an F1 812 with F1 Sub: 1. Do you need the flexibility that the F1 812 offers? The flexible array makes positioning it in different environments/stage setups easier. 2. Do you want to use the system as a monitor? An L1 Model II is better suited to be used as both FOH and as a...Read More...

802 mk 11 controller compaability

Hi I have a lot of bose products including 8 pairs of 802 mk 11 speakers I am confused by a post in the forum where you indicate that a few of your controllers will not support the 802 mk 11 when the data pdf states it will. My controller (802 c) has packed in and I am trying to confirm that a bose panaray digital controller will support the MK 11s The advice in this forum states it will not however if I download the manual there are a bunch of mono, stereo and bi amp presets for the 802...Read More...
Hi mo, Thank you for your question! The current controller is the ControlSpace SP-24, which does not have the 802II preset in the latest firmware. A brief history: The original Panaray controller (from 10-15 years ago) did have the 802II eq curve. But then the second version, the Panaray System Digital Controller II which was discontinued in 2012, did not have the 802II eq curve. If you were to purchase an SP-24 today, you would have to use the 802III curve, and that's ok. The SP-24 has...Read More...

Hiss that gets louder with louder volumes

I bought the Bose L1 is this month. From Sweetwater, I heard it was supposed to 'run silently.' Lots of reviews also say this. I do a lot of a cappella and quiet stuff sometimes, so this sounded good to me. However the speaker tower has a white noise/hiss which gets louder with louder volumes, sounding to me like water running. I have a high quality Furman conditioner I'm plugging it into - not the wall. I checked all cables and mics. I also tried turning on just the tower with no Tonematch,...Read More...
