Adrian Belew discusses the L1's

In a recent interview with allaboutjazz.com Adrian Belew discusses his current live guitar rig which includes a pair of Bose L1 Model II Double Bass Packages. Here is an excerpt from the article: "I add the Line 6 in for extra sounds and overdubbing sounds live, and then this Bose setup, which is absolutely fantastic. I love this setup, called the Bose L1, these columns that you see with the bass cabinets on each side, those are for the high fidelity things that I want to use, like my...Read More...

Guitar Hanger Available for L1

Kyle-at-Bose
A new accessory is available for the Bose L1 Cylindrical Radiator(r) loudspeaker from Wallacher Guitar Hangers. If you are a guitar player and sick of carrying guitar stands to the gig and rehearsal, this may be for you. The Wallacher WPAS1 hanger mounts easily to the back of the L1 loudspeaker using a screwdriver. Assembly is a one-time job: While the L1 is disassembled and on the floor, remove the two phillips-head screws that attaches the bayonet to the upper L1 loudspeaker. On the guitar...Read More...

Upright Tone Lessons From Ron Carter

colcliff-at-bose
Yesterday, I had the honor of working with jazz legend Ron Carter, helping him use the Personalized Amplification System(R) and in doing so, received more of my continuing education about instrument tone. Yesterday was the first of 3 shows at the Lincoln Center/Rose Theater in Manhattan, called "Detroit Motor City Jazz" starring Ron himself and a full lineup of supreme jazz royalty headliners, all from Detroit. The list includes Geri Allen, Marcus Belgrave, Chris Fuller, Charles McPherson,...Read More...

Ron Carter workshop at David Gage's shop in NYC

Jesse-at-Bose
Greetings fellow bassists. I just got back from a really inspiring workshop given by Ron Carter at David Gage’s bass shop in Manhattan. First, a little background for those of you who might not be familiar with these names: Ron Carter is one of the most distinguished, accomplished, acclaimed jazz bassists out there in the world today, with a discography that reads like a history of recorded jazz over the last 50 years. As for David Gage, his shop is a real nerve center for the world of...Read More...

TC Helicon Harmony G-XT with L1 Feedback Problem

Forum: Vocals

I have recently experienced severe feedback using the pedal...so much that i cant use it anymore. I just bought the pedal last year. any suggestions?Read More...
I too am having issues with my G-XT. In the middle of a song, I am experiencing heavy delay, so that the words are repeated through my Bose L1 a few seconds later than they are sung (I am not using a monitor, and the Bose is about 5 feet behind me over my left shoulder). I don't have an instrument connected to it, just my mic, and have only the Reverb Hall Fx on, with doubling (harmonies off). The Fx setting is at about 9 o'clock. gain at 12. This has happened with other people's sound...Read More...

Hi O.. Thanks for the link. I hadn't seen this one. I met Mike Dawes in my favourite (english spelling) music store 2 or 3 years ago when he was doing a TWA (Tone Wood Amp) demonstration tour over here. I had the chance to have a really good chat with him before the event as we were both there pretty early. You couldn't really hope to meet a nicer guy. He also let us try out his guitar with the TWA on it after the show. How many artists can you imagine doing that? When I saw him he was using...Read More...

TC-Helicon VoiceLive 3

Forum: Vocals
ST
I picked up my TC-Helicon VoiceLive 3 on Friday. It's been a fun ride this weekend. I'm putting this discussion in the Vocals section even though I got this primarily for guitar, then as a looper (composition tool and rehearsal) and if it turns out that I use the vocal effects, that will be a bonus. I've been using a TC-Helicon VoiceLive Play GTX for 18 months or so. Up to this point this was the only product in the TC-Helicon line that had guitar amp simulation. The looper was basic but at...Read More...

New Little Guitar

Oldghm
Long story, short as I can make it. In a discussion with a friend about buying a 5 year old a guitar. I suggested a Little Martin or Baby Taylor. Mother says, "that's too expensive." I say, "You can afford it." But, I search a little for travel guitars and find this . By the time I advise the Mother, she has already bought the Martin. I look at some videos and it peaks my interest so I cash in some points, beg for additional discount and order one up for myself. This little guitar doesn't...Read More...
Oldghm: A thousand thumb's up. After my dad showed me the chords for 5 Foot Two on Ukulele (I actually asked him to show me St. Louis Blues), I started playing the Arthur Godfrey style chordal melodies from his lesson books when I was about 8 years old on one of the decent playable ukes my dad had lying around. He didn't allow me to play his Martins until later. Where I live now, lots of kids start playing instruments when they're 3-5 years old - it's in the DNA of the islands. The son of...Read More...

Heil Fin mic and vintage tone

Forum: Vocals
First time here, I have a T1 tone match and 2 L1 portable speakers for a swanky old school jazz group. Two questions: 1. We're using a Heil Fin Microphone for a female vocalist, would High Gain Bright be my best tone match setting since there isn't a preset for it? Any other suggestions from you veteran users for zQ/Comp/Mod/Verb/delay etc. for this genre? 2. Does anyone here have a good vocal setting to get that "tin can" old time record sound (or something close?) Thanks for reading this..Read More...
Hi DSC, Welcome to the Bose Portable PA Community. Try this Preset - the first choice for generic vocal microphones Category: Vocal Mics Preset: Handheld Mics and I looked at the specifications for the Heil The Fin Mic and based on that, try Category: Vocal Mics Preset: Audix OM5 And here's some information about the ToneMatch Presets . Got a new mic - Audix VX5

Forum: Vocals
Tom Munch
I finally wanted to try a different vocal mic again. I've been using a Shure Beta 87A or an Audix OM5 for the most part over the past couple years. I also have an AKG C535EB that sees some use. The 535 was the mic that I was told I sounded best on when we did the shootout at the Bose conference in Ashland back in 2006. I like the way the 87 cuts, but it also feeds back a little more than I like even with judicious EQ usage. The OM5 sees mostly L1 Compact duty when I go direct in since the 87...Read More...
I have tried the Hi-Pass filter. It seems to take too much bass away for me. I really like living with a mic for a week or so and seeing what all it can do. All of the mics I tried really have different qualities. The only one that I had difficulty using was the Sennheiser. It had similar high-end feedback problems as the 87.Read More...

Now What Mic to Choose

Forum: Vocals
A few weeks ago everyone on the forum helped convince me to buy the PAS. GREAT DECISION!!!!! I could not be happier. We bought 2 systems from my vocal trio...a small Mackie Mixer and we sing with tracks. I've been using SM58 mics that we borrowed but now it's time to buy. Money is an object and was leaning to the 58's but I was told the Beta 58's are even better. In my research though I've seen reviews from owners of PAS that they get low end feedback from the Beta. I don't have access to be...Read More...

Pre-amp pedal for acoustic guitar before the Tone Match

Hello, I'm new to the forum. I was just wondering if anybody has used a pre-amp or boost pedal before the Tone Match. I have a Collings OM3A with a K&K pure mini pickup and I use the steel string pre-set on the Tone Match. I was kind of thinking about the Fire-Eye Red-Eye Preamp. Does anyone have any experience with these.... what could I expect?Read More...
I have a variety of guitars with a variety of pickup systems. I also have a Fire-Eye preamp. I find most undersaddle pickups sound great plugged directly into the T1 without a preamp. Those pickups have tone sweeps as well, so I don't really need the treble adjustment provided by the Fire-Eye, especially with those guitars that have a Tonematch preset (Including my Rick Turner Renaissance). All the Fire-Eye really provides in those cases is a boost function. However, for my K&K equipped...Read More...

Good Music is Timeless

Hi Tom, I just read this on your Website. “If folks drive home with a nice memory in their heart pocket and a song stuck in their head… ...….then we’ve all had a fabulous night.” That's a bit Déjà-vu for me because at the end of a gig I quite often say "If you've all enjoyed yourselves half as much as I have, then we've all had a super evening. T1 Microphone Settings for Electro-Voice N/D967 T1 And Others.

Forum: Vocals
I have the L1c with the T1 ToneMatch which I use for Karaoke with family and friends. I have four mics that I use, N/D967, AKG D5 S, Audix OM-2 and a Samson UHF Series ONE wireless. I get confused by the terminology when trying to set-up the mics and also when I try to set-up delay or reverb. My preference seems to be the N/D967 but I'm confused by the personality switch when doing the set-up. Which position should I use and what reverb or delay should I use. Also, any help with all the mics...Read More...

To ST’s point, guitars are a very personal instrument so to recommend one over another is really impossible. There are too many subjective dimensions to explore. How it looks, how it feels to play, the tone, projection etc. Having said that I have 2 brands of carbon fiber guitars. An old Rainsong WS 1000 which is like an OM/Grand Auditorium shape with deep body, a Composite Acoustics GX, a Rainsong Al Petteway model, and a Composite Acoustics Cargo which I just use for a travel guitar.
