Connecting L1 1S to Two powered PA Speakers

Hello, I've had my L1 1S for a few months now and I love it it. I can't get over how great everything sounds coming out of such a small system. We're a four piece band, two guitars, bass and drums, three vocals. We typically play small bar, patio type venues. However, we have a gig coming up where we will be playing outside at a small beer festival. There will be a small stage set up in a large parking lot and I expect we'll be playing to about 100 people directly in front of the stage but...Read More...

Can I connect backtrack via a mini cable to two ¼” to two different channels

I know that if i connect an iPad or iPhone to a T1 ToneMatch ® Audio Engine or T4S ToneMatch mixer channels 1, 2, 3 (or T8S ToneMatch mixer channels 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) using a cable like this i will hear only the LEFT side of the stereo signal. To hear both LEFT and RIGHT sides of the stereo signal, i must change the signal to MONO. My question is: Can I not use a cable like this and connect to let say channel 2 and 3 to hear LEFT and RIGHT?? Thanks, HubRead More...

T8S Routing USB B from PC to a full featured channel

Tom the Guitar Guy
So, just picked up the T8S.... First thing I notice is that you can't route the USB in to a channel - only Left/Right or the Aux In (channel 9 & 10) unlike in the T1 where I could/ would route my iPad to channel 4 for easy volume control.... So in order to control volume of backing tracks/ music I have to have the Aux 9/10 level screen on... bummer... Tech advancements.... lol Plus since it's routed to Aux In, I'm unable to use a DJ Tonematch... Also a little bummed that it didn't come...Read More...

The right way to connect 2 L1s classic with T1

Hi Sid, Thanks for the information., The T1 is mono device so you can't pan sound sources from one side to the other although in some situations you can get creative to force things. That won't work very well for vocals. Try this: Microphones to T1 channels 1, 2, 3. T1 Master Output to the first L1 Classic - channel 1. First L1 Classic channel 1 line out to the second L1 Classic. LI Model II/T8S - Noise with preamp

I am using a Fishman Platinum Pro EQ between my guitar and T8S. This preamp is silent with my other mixer and PA, but when used with the T8s and L1, there is low level white noise. The Platinum pro has a post EQ XLR output: XLR D.I. Output: Level (post EQ): 0 dB relative to input Output Impedance: 600 Ohms I am plugging in to channel 1 or channel 2 of the T8S. I believe I have gain and volume set correctly on the platinum pro. The Platinum Pro has an unbalanced 1/4 out that is quieter, but...Read More...
Hi Larry 4, Okay - so the source of the issue is the Fishman Platinum Pro EQ or some interaction with the Fishman and the T8S. You can try lowering the input trim level on the T8S channel. You'll probably have to turn up the channel volume to compensate. I've encountered this before; when other PA systems don't reproduce the noise being created in the signal chain. Can you hear the noise through headphones connected to the T8S? Looking at the Fishman Platinum Pro EQ web page leads me to ask.Read More...

T8s And DJ Controller Hookup

Jablon
Hello BoseWorld, just received my T8s and would like some info on how to get the best of the mixer in my application. I am a mobile dj using primarily Pioneer DDJSZ as my main rig. Over the years I have performed at events where several mics were required and in some cases performers have asked to hook up their equipment [Guitar, Sax] to my mixer. So, the need for the T8. Hi Jablon, I don't have recommendations about where you should apply the signal processing (or levels) - on the DDJ or the T8S. Apply the processing where it sounds the best and is most convenient for you. Try channels 7 and 8 with the DJ Presets to see if you like them. As for Trim levels (applies to channels 7 and 8): Set the DDJ to the highest output you can without clipping On the T8S, set the input trim levels so you see solid green on the lights. Occasional flickers of red are okay,...Read More...

Hi Nathan, Sounds like you've discovered what happens when connecting a stereo feed into a balanced input. Trouble is, some times it seems like its working, then on the other hand you can get some unexpected results, such as one channel missing, very low volume etc. and yes, you will get different results depending on if the signal source is stereo or a duplicate mono signal on an otherwise stereo feed. The adaptor cable that ST has recommended will put it right as it will convert the...Read More...

No signal from zero to one

Is it intended behavior for the Bose S1 Pro to output no signal until the volume knob gets to about 1-1.5? Just bought one and while streaming music over Bluetooth this is very apparent. Set the Bose volume knob for Channel 3 (BT) to zero and slowly turn up then around 1.5 the signal suddenly kicks in. Not smooth at all. Hi Beau Ryan, Welcome to the Bose Portable PA Community. Congratulations on getting your S1 Pro. Yes, the behaviour of Channel 3 volume control is different from Channels 1 and 2. I have a Behringer Xenyx 802 mixer and I want to connect it to my L1 Compact to run external effects for a single mike and my guitar (solo acoustic). Hi Baja Beat, Thanks for mentioning this. Yes, you can leave the pan controls up the middle and things will work. On most mixers, you will get up to +3 dB more gain from each channel if you pan them hard to one side (e.g., left) and use the left output. Panning up the middle won't work if you have stereo inputs that have dedicated left and right inputs. You will lose the right channel. STRead More...

Hi Gene, Thanks for raising an excellent question. Bose doesn't state an expected battery life. There are too many factors that can affect the battery. Instead, it puts a two-year warranty on the S1 Pro, including the battery. I understand the temptation to have a battery on hand "just in case". Unless it's mission critical to run on the battery, and there's no AC power available (that's your back-up), I would wait until you notice an issue: like the battery doesn't last long enough for you...Read More...

Is there a way to accurately adjust the AUX OUT level from a T8S to the equivalent of Mic level without using an attenuator? I'd like to simplify my rig by removing mic splitter boxes that run both to the T8S and my harmonizer (Boss VE-500). Ideally I'd run a balanced cable from an AUX OUT to the mic input port on the harmonizer (Boss VE-500). NOTE: I can't just run the mic directly into the harmonizer and then to the mixer because I'm also switching mics that run to the harmonizer with an...Read More...

What are the optimum settings for zEQ and Para EQ for Karaoke singing on T1?

Hi - Currently, I have an L1 Model II and T1 Tonematch using pre-built scenario of DJ/Playback in T1 and Shure 58A Beta Microphones on Channels 1-3. I use Channel 4/5 for playing Karaoke Tracks from a laptop. With this scenario I do not get much base and more treble. I was wondering whether I should set zEQ and Para EQ, but need some advise on optimum settings for Lows, Meds and Highs. Open to other suggestions. Thanks in advance! Sam KRead More...
Hi Shyam, Terrific. You're welcome. zEQ and Delay are artistic settings, and you set them based on what you hear and to your preference. Start with the ToneMatch Preset that most closely matches your microphones. Then adjust the zEQ if you feel something needs to be improved. You can disregard the part about ParaEQ in the video below. Accelerometer in the S1 Pro (Auto EQ feature)

ccc
ST interesting articles but they leave me very concerned about reactive time and perhaps atmospheric pressure drops. My cell phone Accelerometer is very slow in determining a vertical or horizontal position. When it reaches a point it tends to overreact wth speed. Its reactive time or over reactive time is often annoying. Hard drives are slowly being phased out in favor of electronic drives, leaving plater spin, warpage and heads bouncing a thing of the past. So does barometric changes like...Read More...

Use of a Bose MB4

Hiya I currently use a pair of Bose L1s qith natching B1's for band qork... I'm thinking of adding a pair of Bose MB4's..is this possible? My logic is that you can use two B1s per side as they are both 8 ohm and presumably go down to 4ohm when linked..hence bigger output. I notice the MB4s are also 8 ohm...so could I come from L1s to Bose B1 with the output from B1 going to MB4..safely? Durely it still provides a 4 ohm load? And thered be 6 drivers. Last week I skipped the B1s and just ran...Read More...
h thats fine...bit worried about the 'probably' ..but as long as it only goes to a max load of 4 ohm thats fine...same as two B1's but with 6 drivers as opposed to 4 and a bigger cab to move the air... Digital Noise/Feedback Loud and BAD!!!

Hello Everyone...looking for some help here. I have been trouble shooting this issue since I bought my T8S. I have a pretty complicated setup so I have been hesitant to post the issue but last night I think I finally isolated the issue to the ToneMatch Mixer. I use the TC Helicon Voice Live 3 in my setup. Input to the TC Helicon is my 1/4 inch cable from my Acoustic Guitar and Midi In. I use a dual Mono Output via 2 -XLR cables going into the mixer one line is Vocals and the other is Guitar.Read More...
Hi Moon Dog, Another thought. When you plug in the additional mic(s) do you then, or soon after, do a particular song or songs. What I am asking is, is that part of your program predictable? Are you using particular presets with the harmonizer? Is it possible to tie the unwanted digital sounds to particular songs, or presets that you only engage when the extra mics are involved? If the sounds are digital and they are not present without the harmonizer, I think you need to look to the...Read More...

Taylor tuning using a T1 tuner

I recently came across a video from James Taylor who said the acoustic guitar is not a precise instrument. He found a method of tuning that seems to account for the vagaries of the instrument. It requires tuning the strings a few cents flat according to the following formula. E. -3 cents; B -6 cents; G -4 cents; D -8 cents; A -10 cents; E -12 cents So on my T1 tuner how can I measure -3 cents for example? What are the graduations on the T1 screen?Read More...
I saw that video as well. That setup may be what works perfectly for James Taylor's Olsen built guitar and the way his bridge, saddle and frets are set up his capo position and the way he plays/where he usually puts his fingers but it's highly likely that "your mileage may vary". I've been playing acoustic guitars for over 50 years and have owned over a dozen of them and it depends on the guitar and what I'm playing. Each of the seven I own now have different characteristics and once the...Read More...

S1 Orientation and Dispersion

I have my S1 Pro arriving in a few days but I wanted to know a bit more about the orientation & dispersion even though I've read all the articles & manuals. T4S Stereo mixer into Mono L1

The T4s is labelled as a Stereo Mixer with built in FX. But what if... What if you have a T4s and ONE L1 II - B2? This obviously can only be mono. So what happens when you connect your T4s digital output 'left' to the L1 II... Hi Dave, For larger mixers, we frequently use the shorthand tracks/busses terminology. It's a great way to convey some information concisely. In the world of compact ?/2 mixers (two output busses), the outputs are almost always referred to as Left and Right, and even on larger systems, pan controls are usually labeled Left and Right. When we talk about assigning tracks to busses, then yes, we get back to identifying things by number. Most of the ?/2 mixers I've seen do not explicitly...Read More...

Hi MamaBear, Here's some more information. You can connect a passive speaker to the Bass Module Out (speakon connection). That output is: 125 watts into 8 ohms 250 watts into 4 ohms Note: both the Bass Module Out and Bass Line Out are Frequency range: 40-200 Hz EQ tuned specifically for the Bose bass modules (B1 or B2) so whatever you connect to these outputs probably won't sound like your B1, but it might get you through your gig. Hi Kevin, Up to 11 hours of play is dependent on Volume and to a lesser extent the tone controls Higher volume and turning up the tone controls draws more energy than lower settings. @ST - A few minutes ago (I hadn't seen your message above) I went digging into a box where I keep my cables. Lo and behold, I found a cable that I acquired eons ago - twin 1/4" TS to a stereo 1/8" jack. I think I got this to connect an electronic keyboard to something ... don't remember what. Anyway, this is a fairly heavy duty cable and 6' long ... perfect for the guitar. I plugged it into the S1 and it's perfect. It does exactly what I want. So here's the benefit to me: I like playing the...Read More...

XLR Mini Mixer

I just purchased the S1 for use at a gig this weekend at a park where there is no power. My wife & I are a duet and both sing. I play the guitar. We need three inputs. What is the best way to accommodate us. I was thinking abut using an XLR Mini Mixer to plug both mics into then one XLR to the S1. Any ideas? Remember no AC power is available. Thanks!Read More...

Bose L1 Model 1 - Orange Power Light

Ugh. Was happily using my treasured L1 yesterday when all of a sudden the sound died. The Power on light now stays orange and the two input channel signal light red, all with everything unplugged. Reading around am I right in thinking this is a back to Bose to fix? It wouldn't be something simple like a blown fuse etc? Many thanks in advance. cheers Adam.Read More...

Hello Pradeep, Welcome to the Bose Portable PA Community. Thank you for your question. The Bose L1 systems are set up to accept the AC power provided in the country in which it is sold. For example, the Bose L1 systems sold in India support 220VAC 50 Hz. I'm sorry. Bose cannot confirm the suitability of products for converting the voltage and frequency to match L1 systems purchased from a different region. You may be able to get more information on this topic by contacting your local Bose...Read More...

Testing the F1 Model 812 mid/treble cones

Hi there, is there any way of knowing if one (or more) of the treble cones has blown in the F1 tops? I'm not expecting it to happen because of the circuitry being far better these days however I remember frequently taking 802's down in clubs and finding only half the cones were working. It's difficult just to listen to them individually because of the position of them in the array, so do Bose have any way of telling during servicing which cones are blown without dismantling the whole unit?Read More...
Thanks for the answer. Pretty much as I thought. KeithRead More...

S1 Pro: Okay to leave it plugged in all the time?

Oldghm
Hi ST, and others, I have made some assumptions since receiving my S1 and just want to check and see if my actions are OK. I use the S1 for practice/rehearsal every day, so it stays plugged up all the time. If I leave the house to use it I have the choice of plugged or unplugged based on the site where I intend to play. My question, Is there any downside or danger to keeping the S1 plugged in all the time? I have assumed that when the battery is fully charged the charger recognizes the full...Read More...

Compact with S1?

Hello! I’ve been a lurker for awhile and figured now is as good a time as any to ask a few questions. I am a solo acoustic guitar/singer. I <3 my Bose Compact. I use my TC Helicon Play Acoustic for every gig to get my sound the way I want it. Usually this works great as my venues are usually small and I play for no more than 50 people. My my issue comes when the weather breaks and suddenly I have to deal with outside gigs or the “garage doors” start to open. I find I don’t get enough...Read More...
Hi I use an L1 Compact and the S1 Pro with the Bose T4S Mixer for stereo, the great thing about combining the S1 with the L1 is their versatility to mix both or use S1 as monitor etc, plus if you have smaller gigs the S1 is superb for this. I’ve had this set up around two months managing to store scenes in the T4S for recall at recurring gigs. I’m still getting used to the equipments but so far it’s awesome, compliments on quality sound by audience and was even told my Classical Guitar was...Read More...

F1 subs hot and weak??

jdbassentertainment.com
We recently performed at a High School prom. We ran the sound (2 F1 Stacks) off one breaker and the lights off the another. We put both subs under our table that was skirted. Typically the mixer I use (Denon X900) doesn’t have enough output to make signal lights flash red... they remain green. So typically we run the volume wide open giving the subs as much volume as possible. The dance went great and the F1 System sounded great as always, but towards the end of the dance my wife told me...Read More...
We were running the sound through a monster power conditioner with a voltage read out on the front and it read 122v at startup... but I never thought to look at it during this situation to see if the voltage had dropped??? Now I wish I had...Read More...
