Hi Mahesh, the Beta 87A is exceptionally bright and I too at first experience feedback, however - having reduced top end by 1db and mid by 2db I can sing at pretty hot levels without getting feedback. It is a good idea to have the mic label facing you when singing - as the polar pattern is concentrating on you best at that angle. It's rejection field is away from the label. Cheers DaveRead More...

L1 Model II as a Roland kit stage monitor?

I have a L1 model II with a single B1 and the TonMatch that I have used for small group gigs a couple of times - all acoustic guitars and mics. I have been invited to gig with my Roland V-drums for the first time (totally intimidated now), here is the situation. The band has one mixer channel for me and only 2 floor monitors for all four of us. They do have two powered subwoofers and some nice powered mains. I am concerned that I will not be able to here myself in the back from the floor...Read More...

Hi Bjoern, Welcome to the Bose Portable PA Community. Do NOT to use a cable like this to 'split' the output of a ToneMatch mixer. When splitting a balanced signal coming out of the T1, the unbalanced signals on the tip-sleeve ends are out of phase. What model of L1® do you have? If you have L1 Model 1S or L1 Model II, you can do this. T1® to Two Model II Power Stands or Two T1®s with Two Model 1S Systems If you have a T4S or T8S, there are two master outputs and no need for using a splitter. STRead More...

Larger Venue Signal Chain Concern

Hi. I just got my L1 Model II, B1 Bass and T8S last week and have been rehearsing with my acoustic-duo mate in my home studio. I'm excited to be free of my old live sound system, and I've been able to find answers to all the question I can think of except one. And I'm afraid this one might bite me if I don't get some expert advice. Q: What's the proper way to set up the trim on the power base, and how does this relate to the master volume setting on the T8S? I've successfully set the channel...Read More...

Channel vs Master Volume settings on T1

Looking for some guidance on where my Channel Volumes should be vs my Master Volume on the T1 should be set i.e. Do I turn the Channel Volume up high over half way and then slowly turn up Master Volume until desired volume level? Or do I turn Master Volume up to half or 3/4 and leave it there while turning up Channel Volumes to desired volume level? This question is stemming from an issue I have been having while using the T1 with my S1 Pro (acoustic guitar and SM 58 plugged in). I am...Read More...
Hi Simon Patrick, First, some background. The signal strength of the output of the T1 is much higher than that of a microphone. This is normal for any mixer. The S1 Pro inputs can accommodate inputs from very low output devices (like microphones or bare piezo pickups found in some guitars) up to line-level devices (like the T1, other ToneMatch mixers, other mixers, and higher output instruments). It is completely normal and expected that you would have the S1 Pro channel volumes set...Read More...

Problems with acoustic guitar sound

My friend and I both have L1 Model II systems with B2 bass modules. We are both using the T1 mixer. Using my system I set up my acoustic guitar sound going from my LR Baggs Para Acoustic DI into my T1 using the Acoustic Guitar flat EQ preset. No amount of fiddling with the Baggs DI seemed to help. Before using the Baggs DI I...Read More...
Hi steview22, Two more thoughts Were you going into the same channel on your friend's T1 as you do on yours? Were you using the same kind of connection (XLR or 1/4" (6.3 mm) Tip-Sleeve? On the T1 channels, 1,2,3 1/4" (6.3mm) inputs are high impedance inputs and relatively high input sensitivity. This is great for acoustic guitar pickups. T1 channel inputs 4/5 are better suited for line-level inputs. All of these should take the output from an L.R. Baggs Para DI, but the gain staging is...Read More...

Intermittently not powering up on switch-on.

Good Morning / Afternoon. I have a L1 model 2 with B2 and T1. This problem is not giving me any cause for concern but I am curious if Bose are aware and is there any known cure? Probably 1 in 10 times I switch the power stand on the light lights up and the tone match works but the amp does not fire up. The T1 shows level from inputs but no sound from the speakers. Garry, you are the first to let me know I'm not the only one this happens to on rare occasions...but it does happen. Just a reboot always does the trick. Bose L1 Model II - Power Drops

Hi, Over the years I've a number of what appeared to be "power output drops" when gigging with The Model IIs - this was manifested by a drop in music volume output. We play a number of venues where the power available is "less than ideal" and we can get hum introduced when venue equipment is switched on and off during the night but, more worryingly, we have also experienced these "power output drops". These happen rarely but are worrying when they do and are unsettling at best. I read...Read More...

I got to the venue and with only 40 expected I decided not to set up on the stage and went in close and set up...Read More...

Onboard Tonematch EQ’s

theonemanband
Hi, I have searched the forum and the Bose website, but cannot seem to find this information; please can anyone help? I am looking for a graph/diagram or other info that would show a visible comparison between the frequency responses of the three onboard, switchable “Tonematch” eq’s (flat/guitar/mic) on the S1 Pro. Is such a thing available, as I am sure this would be of help to other users too,...........any help or links greatly appreciated! Cheers......BrianRead More...
Absolutely.....I agree, I would always let my ears be the final judge but, I would have simply liked the option to make a mental note of the frequency curves of each, just as a shortcut to a starting point, so to speak. As I said, not essential, but useful. Thank you for input ST., always appreciated!Read More...

Hi dblack25, Welcome to the Bose Portable PA Community. I wouldn't be concerned about an L1 Model II from 2012. The L1 Model II is a current unit and service is readily available if you need it, directly from Bose. You can call Bose Support to find out what service options you have is something goes wrong. Check to see if the dealer offers any kind of warranty. Once you know about service options, you can decide if an extended warranty makes sense for you. Does that help? Gain Staging for T1 to two S1s

Last night I used two S1s for my acoustic duo (one guitar, two vocals). I ran the guitar and vocals into my T1 mixer which was connected to input 1 on an S1 with a TRS 1/4" cable. I then ran another TRS 1/4" cable from the output of the first S1 to the second S1. I set the input volumes of each S1 at noon to control the volume from the mixer. I was surprised that the volume of the first S1 was very quiet while the second in the chain was loud. I swapped the positions of the two S1s to...Read More...
Yeah, don’t want separate mixes. Honestly I’d never send the output of the S1 to FOH. In my experience, they want a nice mic level signal and one that will change if I need to adjust the volume of the monitor during a gig. The S1s worked well, but I really missed having a subwoofer.Read More...

What to Buy

Hi everyone, I am a mobile DJ that does mostly weddings and school dances. My typical wedding crowds are usually between 100-300 people, but I have done a few already that have had up to 500 people. I use two Bose L1 Compact systems for small receptions and ceremonies. When I need more bass for my smaller events, I use two Bose B2 bass modules that are crossed over using a dbx DriveRack PA2 . Hey, I know the faq says that a sub is not recommended with the S1 but I need more low. I've seen other posts with using a f1 sub but that thing is to large and heavy. I was looking at the b2 with a packlite amp. Is it possible to use this with the S1 and has someone tried it? L1 1S, T8 and B1 coming today - 4-piece gig on Sunday

Hello! My L1 1S with B1 and T8 is coming today. We have a gig on the (outside) back patio of a bar on Sunday, expecting 100 or more people. Band is: guitar, bass, drums and keys/accordian so 4 piece with 3 vocals. We usually go with JBL traditional PA, two 10's and two 15's and a Mackie 16 channel. I would like to use the new L1 for the gig but not sure of the best way. Currently thinking we might use the L1 just for (3) vocals and we all use our amps for instruments. Would the L1 carry...Read More...
Gig passed and while guest of honor was pleased, not everyone agreed the L1 1S and B1 paired with an L1 compact carried the oomph we needed in the outdoor back patio. Depends on who we asked. Folks up front said we had a nice balanced volume. Folks in back said they couldn't (or could barely) hear us. Band members were split. Of course the drummer said we weren't loud enough. We used the L1's to carry three vocals, accordion and a little bit of kick drum. Towers were behind us and if I had...Read More...

Running iPad into T8

Hi fellow Bose owners! I don’t mind admitting that I keep looking at upgrading to a T8. I don’t need 8 channels but there are times when I feel a bit limited with the standard 4 that I currently have on my T1 and T4s. My set up is purely vocals with backing and live guitar. With extra channels I could put my mandolin in a separate channel and my ukulele in another and my electric in another and basically have separate EQ for each. My question is could I run my backing tracks through two...Read More...

Sub Bass Recommendations

theonemanband
Hi, following on from my recent posts regarding using 2 x S1 Pro’s for my main PA., together with a Samson Auro D1200 active sub bass, I am concerned that the sub bass (having no no built in crossover, only “Thru” outputs), is sending full on and potentially damaging sub bass frequencies to the S1’s! Can anyone recommend a good, small (12”), active sub, 2 x inputs, 2 x outputs with a built in (preferrably adjustable) crossover. This seems a good bet and good value for money too...........Read More...
SORTED!!👍 Bought a fantastic small active sub-bass, a “Proel” SW110a. (V1). This little sub ticks all the boxes, small and light (18kg), 250watt, switchable high pass filter (125 / 160 Hz) and 122dBspl. Came across this by accident in the forgotten “dusty corner” of my local musuc store, not new but in absolutely mint condition and aquired it at a bargain price. Used it together with my two S1Pro’s at my two latest (fair sized) gigs, crossed over at 125Hz. The whole system sounds truly...Read More...

Hi Rooster, Did you get a T1 or a T4S? (The T1 is discontinued). Positioning of Compact + dig. piano/vocals

Hi, Tomorrow my brandnew Compact (+ a T4S) will be delivered :-) I will set it up in my living room first. I will appreciate any advice from this amazing and supportive community regarding how to position the Compact in relation to me sitting at my digital piano with a mic in front of me for vocals. My gut feeling was to place the Compact in a corner (at least 50cm away from the walls) and put the piano right at the center of the room, about 2-3m...Read More...
Try performance configurations and get used to how they sound? For instance, in a house concert or small venue you would often be placed against one wall and may have to run the compact sitting to one side of you with the speakers aligned with the microphone facing the audience. There is lots of sidewash with these Bose systems so you should get a enough sound to monitor with when it's placed next to you... I'm not sure I'd put it in a corner though.Read More...

You need EQ to boost the frequencies you want to hear. Active preamp DI boxes really help you get the sound you like from your guitar, without overpowering your vocals.
