Dents in F1 812 front mesh covers

I stupidly let someone else carry one of the F1 tops on Saturday and now there are dents in the bottom two panels on one of the speakers. The metal is very soft and bends easily. Is it possible to remove these covers and straighten them? They had third party covers on (Bose ones far too expensive) but still got damaged even through the padding.Read More...
@kradcliffe , sorry to hear about the mishap. After decades of loading, unloading, setting up, sound checks and tearing down I've learned that no one cares more for your gear than you. Transporting gear could be a whole new topic. Folding platform trucks, dollies, hand trucks, folding wagons and brute strength to name a few. With Bose Portable PA, trips to and from the venue are greatly reduced. I use pick and hook sets successfully with metal mesh, but it takes time and patience. Let us...Read More...

Best Connections from Soundcraft ui24 Mixer to L1 Classic

Hello All, I am in a band that now uses 2 L1 Classics. We have a Soundcraft Ui24 digital Mixer that we put everything through. 2 Guitars acoustic and electric, Keys, Bass, Roland e-drums, 5 vocals. I have read all of the connection threads here, but I haven’t been able to see any specfic to this Mixer. The Mixer has a L and R out in XLR and 1/4 inch and currently we have everything panned to the center. On one of the L1s I have tried the XLR to XLR into Input 1 on the L1 to eliminate noise,...Read More...
Hi Perry, Sounds good. You don't need the R1 Remote - and I don't use it when I'm working with third-party mixer. It's simpler to do without. Will the L1 Classic still work without the R1 Remote ? The PS1 Power Stand (Classic) / Model I continuously senses activity at all preset selectors and what is connected at the input/output jacks . The PS1 Power Stand (Classic) / Model I can however function without the R1 Remote . If you power the PS1 Power Stand (Classic) / Model I on without the R1...Read More...

Hi Christopher, Welcome to the Bose Portable PA Community. Here is the part number for the fuse. T15A, 125V/250V, 6.3x32mm Do a web search for that part number and you'll find lots of sources. I doubt you can get the cap alone. You'll have to buy the hold fuse holder. You may have to do some hunting around to find a fuse holder for a 6.3x32mm fuse in order to find a compatible cap. Steinberger bass guitar through a T8S ToneMatch Mixer (Preset, settings)

We all use Sennheiser 935s. We have to get right on the mike (almost touching it) because it quickly loses its effectiveness by backing off even by one inch! SO if you bring up the volume to compensate, it's going to be prone for feedback. BTW< can anyone help me decide the best setting for a Steinberger bass guitar through a Tonematch 8? It's not listed in the choices and has a subtle (but unique) sound. I have it set as Active 1 ever since we got the system. edit tags: Bose Pro...Read More...

Truly Acoustic Guitars

I’m thinking seriously about buying a Bose L1Compact, but I have one important question. Whenever possible, I like to perform with truly acoustic guitars (no transducers, pickups, etc). I always like playing in clubs where the sound people know how to find the sweet spot for a microphone in front of a guitar (these folks are generally old enough to be dinosaurs, like me). So . . . Will the Bose L1 function properly with a mic (with a 1/4 inch jack plugged into the instrument channel)? Or...Read More...
Hi TPNoble, As frustrating as it can be sometimes, the Bose portable line arrays are really designed for close miking. Closer than most guitarist can get if they actively strum their instrument. Typically getting great guitar sound through a mic to your audience is not all that easy. The best Bluegrass players usually have their guitars setup for volume, and their playing style is also aggressive, compared to a typical guitarist. If you pick up a small mixer, either Bose, or other, and make...Read More...

F1 Model 812 without the F1 Subwoofer

A friend of mine plays some pretty big solo acoustic shows and his L1 M2 with B2 and T1 just can't keep up. He's currently using another brand speaker out front and the L1 M2 behind him, but he's not really happy with this arrangement. We were discussing this and I was wondering if using a pair of F1 Model 812s without the F1 Subwoofer would do the would be better than adding another L1 M2. That said, I have a couple of questions: Can you use the F1 Model 812 "stand alone" without the...Read More...
Hi there ww did use L1 behind us and F1 system out front (either with or without subs depending on gig). However, the L1 packed up and Bose were not interested in even looking at it + local fixers couldn’t. Sickening that one problem with amp section means two bass units + column are useless. Good news is we bought two Alto Professional TX208 Powered Loudspeakers for £180 and they are superb. No front fill, but not needed with F1s.Read More...

Adjusting Trim, Volume and Feedback

I am a member of an acoustic duo. I know very little about sound system management. We need help! We are using an L1 II, B1 and 2 Tone Match 1 units. First TM1 is connected to the analog input on the L1. Second TM1 is connected to the digital input of the L1. Two Microphones go straight into channels 1 & 2 of the first TM1 . One Resonator Electric guitar runs through Boss pedals and Radial PZ-Pre Preamp to channel 4 of the first TM1 (this guitar needs a boost). One acoustic guitar goes...Read More...
Thanks to all of you for your help and suggestions. We took your advice and began from square one. We set the trim as recommended for each voice and instrument. Both vocal mics trim out very high. 3:00 (green, no yellow or red). We are right on top of the mics (Shure SM58's). Touching the wind screen. The L1 is slightly in front of us. We can set the mic channel volume at 12:00, add the instruments and get a decent balance, but when we start to turn up the master volume, we get feedback if...Read More...

K&K Pure Mini directly into Tonematch

I've been running my Martin D18 with a K&K Pure Mini pickup directly into my Tonematch and get a great sound, but I find I have to set the gain quite high in order to get any real attack, especially when on stage with a band. Why did Bose remove reverb decay time setting from the new T4s

I have had the ToneMatch T1 for years and just bought the ToneMatch T4s because it was touted as having better effects and more functionality. However I am really disappointed that they removed the ability to change reverb decay times from within the reverb type category. I use this function all the time when I am playing because different songs have different tempos. That was one of the best features on the T1. It is not just a one size fits all in plate, small, medium, large categories. I...Read More...

Hi Gonzo, We have to approach this differently to ensure the L1 Compact is getting both sides of the stereo (left and right) signal. I've given you three options below. The first two are fine if the distances to the S1 Pro systems and L1 Compact are less than 20 feet. Choose the first or the second depending on your choice of cable (RCA or 1/4 x 2 to 1/8) and where you want to control the sound for the L1 Compact. Reverb + Other FX for an outdoor setting

Hi, Firstly I just wanted to say what a great resource this forum is and the lack of trolls and negative comments is so refreshing (and rare) these days. I've been a more than happy L1 T1 user for approximately 10 years and counting. I don't like getting bogged down in details and I love just finding a good sounding preset for each instrument, plug in and play...beautiful! Great story and kudos to you. We use a touch of reverb but no more! It sounds wonderful. We have the same setup as you and the vocals are pristine! More is not necessarily better. Upgrading system

We are a small group of 3 with three Acoustic-Electric guitars with three vocals. We do a mix of Folk, Country, Classic Rock and Mariachi. We use Sennheiser 935 mics, a 12 hole Behringer mixer, and a L1 compact for our performances. I am seriously thinking of upgrading to L1 model 1 or Model 2, and adding the T8s tonematch to try to get a little more punch for some of our gigs. What a great forum. My concern was that the L1 model 2 which is advertised for up to 500 people might be a little larger than we need since we are so close to doing what we need with the compact, but it sounds like those with the experience feel that the extra money for the model 2 is a smart move since the sound is so much better with 24 speaker array. So...we - luckily - had a 3rd S1 with us in case we needed a monitor (we had never been to this venue before). What's more important; what you hear or what the audience hears?

ST
Here are some things I've heard from performers. I have to be inspired by my sound before I can give an inspired show to the audience. Most of the time the audience will not hear the difference between a $300 guitar and a $3000 guitar. So why spend the money? It's good enough for live. F1 subs "rumbling"

Nick from New Zealand
Hi team, Posting this on behalf of my friend Shaun. Live singer with a piano keyboard and backing tracks playing through some sort of small mixer. Dual F1 system, running out of mixer into sub, then out of sub into 812 top. Either left/right stereo, or dual mono - not sure. Old wooden floor, sounds like the floor was raised and on foundations, so basically "hollow" underneath - but not unique, pretty standard stuff for an old venue in New Zealand. Shaun has done about 50 shows with the F1,...Read More...
I've also been contemplating this problem with Shaun. I wonder if his foldback monitor is to blame. I know what his microphone (Sennheiser 955) is and it tends to be pretty good at filtering out high frequencies which are what causes the high frequency squeal but a low rumble would be more likely to come from the floor monitor (QSC K12) or bldg / floor harmonics I would imagine.Read More...

I understand this way we will have the benefit of the very good Bose presets for both vocals and guitars BTW this week my daughter gave her very first live performance, and the Bose S1 not only gives a very good sound, it's also very practical and simple to use. First it is lightweigt and easy to carry with the guitar on her back and the mic stand on the other hand. Then she played...Read More...

L1 replacement parts?

Hello, I own an L1 Model II system with a T1 Tonematch audio engine and a pair of B2 bass modules. This rig has served me well for years (bought in 2012), but over the last year it has started flaking out. One of the channels in the T1 has become noisy, and now the "power stand" base unit has something wrong with it--making lots of garbled noise when turned on with (no inputs even). I would like to replace both of these parts. The T1 is easy to find sold as a separate product. The "power...Read More...

Channel 4/5 on my T1 low volume with iPhone

I have similar issue. Just sent tonematch to bose and got it back w experiencing same issue. Ive been using a mono cable out of phone into channel 4 for about 5 yrs. all of a sudden very low volume. Plug into another pa system using same cables and no issue. Exhausted myself messing w settings. Plug into other inputs and it works ok, but I need those channels. Please help ?!Read More...
Hi Bruti, If you have a cable like one of these, it will not work properly with T1 inputs 4/5. Any combination of adapters with a 1/8 inch (3.5 mm) Tip-Sleeve plug at one end and 1/4 inch (6.3 mm) Tip-Ring-Sleeve at the other will not work. T1 Channel 4/5 input jacks are balanced. A cable like this send the iPad Left output* only to both sides of the balanced input. The balanced input will sum the sides with the polarity reversed and cancel the signal. This would happen with any balanced...Read More...

"Will unbalanced work out of the S1?" Maybe. I always default to balanced unless the output signal is too strong for the input to the other device -- for instance, +4dB from a mixer to a microphone level only input. https://www.sweetwater.com/ins...lanced-audio-signal/Read More...

How do I connect an LI Model I and an LI Model II, with a T4S mixer? And is it even possible, or a good idea?

I am a solo act, singer and guitarist, and am playing bigger stages now. Please tell me if purchasing an LI Model II is even a good idea, and if I can connect it to my Model I for a bigger sound for more people and bigger stages. And, in addition to buying the new Model II, do I need to purchase anything else, like cords or something? Please answer as best you can with PICTURES. That'd make it much easier to understand! Hi DMC, There's only one mixer in the picture; the T4S. You don't need a second mixer. You will connect the T4S to the L1 Model II using the ToneMatch port with the ToneMatch cable that comes with the T4S. That's the green line in the picture above. You're welcome. STRead More...

Using the S1 only as a vocal p.a.

I know this isn't exactly what the S1 was designed for, but has anyone tried using it as a vocal- only p.a. in a garage band-type setting. Ie: acoustic drums, 2 electric guitars and a bass? Would it be adequate for this or would an L1 be required?Read More...
I'd like to play with you guys! :-) When I was playing bass in Joe Louis Walker's band, two things really stand out. Right from the beginning he said, "If you can't play soft, you can't play." so our practices and performances were always about the music and dynamics and NOT the sound pressure level. At the end of 2 or 3 hours of practice our ears were NOT ringing! He was also a stickler for dynamics. We had 3 lead instrumentalists: guitar, sax and trumpet. Using a powered monitor with Bose L1 Compact / T1 ToneMatch

I am currently using an L1 compact with a T1 ToneMatch for acoustic performances. I would like to connect an EV powered monitor to the system for larger venues where crowd noise can be an issue. Should I connect to the powered monitor from the T1 'Aux out' or could I also use the 'Main out' on the L1 bass module. Also, from reading previous posts in the forum, I assume I should be using a TRS balanced cable for this type of interface. thanks for your input !Read More...
I think it is better to use Aux Out rather than Main out, then it would not affect the input again of your system when you adjust your monitor (L1 compact) volume.Read More...

S1 pro - connection to an external mixer

Hi there seriously about purchasing the S1 pro before I dive in though just wanted to be sure of a few basics - as I require extra channels would a QSC touchmix 16 be fine with the S1 / would I simply hook it up through a channel of the S1? Hi Jerome Hillier, The article only mentions the T1 - requiring a ToneMatch Power Supply because it doesn't come with one. The T8S requires the ToneMatch Power Supply - and it is included. Using an external monitor with Bose L1 Model II

I am in a Bluegrass band using a Bose L1 Model II with B2 Base. Our Dobro player cannot hear his notes if he connects his Dobro into the system. I need to capture the audio from the Mixer before it gets mixed up with the crowd noise so I need everything going through the Tonematch Mixer. Do you know of anyone who has had this issue? Do you think I could use a stage monitor for him so he could hear? If so, do you have a product recommendation? Thanks,Read More...
Hi, Ioni Creek. Thank you for joining the Bose Portable PA Community. Welcome. Thank you for the interesting question. As you probably know, performing in front of the L1 reduces the need for extra monitors. Sometimes it's not possible to stand in a position where you can hear yourself. DJ's Using F1 System

Hey everyone, Just curious about which DJ's are using the F1 system, and how you are using them. Which position do you set the arrays to? Are you using the built-in stands, or separate speakers stands? Do you use the F1 subs? Do you couple the F1 subs? Do you use an external mixer or the Bose ToneMatch mixer(s)? Do you use additional processing, such as a BBE or DriveRack? I think it will be fun to see how DJ's are using this system.Read More...

T8S Aux Sends

I just recently purchased a BOSE T8S ToneMatch mixer to go with my LI Model II with B2. I set up for the gig and the drummer wanted FX in his aux 3 monitor for his mic. Hi WT, You can send all effects but not reverb to Aux 2, 3, 4. There is a separate reverb processor for Aux 1. It's much more than a routing issue. It would require three more reverb engines. You can pan all the inputs up the center, but if there's overlap in the coverage area, you may...Read More...

One or two?

Hey! I'm preparing to purchase either one or two L1 Model 2 B2 systems depending on what I hear in this discussion. The system I need will support 2 acoustics, 2 vocals, and tracks. We might also include bass and electric guitar or Piano/keyboard on occasion. From what I can understand, I will use in ear monitors for the tracks. Venues will be small sanctuaries or multi-purpose rooms. Music will be accoustic Chrisitian contemporary. Advice, please. Thanks.Read More...
I run two L1B2 sets on a T4S and while there are those quantifying the cost on a power / volume basis I can recommend the system from a pure sound quality perspective. i did run 1 set with a T1 and that sounded good. With a T4S and two L1B2 systems there is an apparent lift in fidelity and most of those who know the L1 around me say the same. It is not always a question of two units double power, you still control the volume, but the sound difference is very noticeable.Read More...

Using a T4S with the S1 Pro

Is anybody using a T4S mixer with their S1 Pro or pair of S1 Pros for acoustic guitar/vocal gigs? If so, would you mind sharing your experiences? Good, Bad, Indifferent? I no longer need the horsepower of my L1 M2 with B2, so I sold it. Additionally, I have some health issues that make it difficult for me to lift and carry heavier equipment. All that said, I want to come up with a "modular" PA that I can expand and contract as needed while keeping the number and size of pieces to a minimum.Read More...
Hi Dan, Mounting options. About the same. Bose went in a different (and more secure) direction on this. Please see T4S & T8S Mixers - 1/4 inch (6mm) Mounting Screw (Mounting Options) You can still attach the T4S to the microphone stand but Bose doesn't supply the bracket. Check out the link above. Red light and clipping using S1 pro with T1 mixer.

Hi all... I did a gig tonight using the S1 pro thru the T1 mixer and the sound was really bad. The red light was almost constant and was clipping a lot. I have also noticed that when i use the T1 with other speakers (in this case an RCF Evox 8 V2) and daisy chain out to the S1 pro it sounds great. The S1 actually improves the sound coverage and quality, yet when I use T1 connected directly to the S1 pro, it clips really badly. I have tried reducing the source volume to compensate, but to no...Read More...
@AlzHammers @ST is da man for all things Bose ... he's very helpful and extremely knowledgeable. I didn't know that about the XLRs on the S1 even though I kinda figured that your cable had something to do with the problem. I use a TRS cable from my T1 to the S1 so have never experienced the problem that you had. Glad it was all sorted out! Cheers,Read More...

Streaming in T4S via USB-A

Reading about the USB -A connector it seems to be a player of some sort for plugging in memory sticks with audio tracks on it that are not in folders. i have not tried it yet but I’m hoping the USB-A will allow me to stream from an iPad as this could be a digital feed from the thunderbolt to the usb using a standard iPad / iPhone charge / data cable. Anyone know if this is feasible or if it could be a future firmware update? Alternatively, could the other USB port be used? cheers DaveRead More...

Sound Quality Comparison

With my phone using Bluetooth, I get good sound from the unit. When I wire from the phone to channel 3, not so good. My cable is Monster Balanced Out and Unbalanced In. I use an unbalanced 1/4 inch jack into the S1. The same cable gives good sound from Laptop to Channel 2. The phone with this cable is not good into Channel 2, just like into Channel 3. Please help with this.Read More...
My response is if it ain't broke why fix it. You say it sounds good coming though the Bluetooth. I say continue to use the Bluetooth connection. KooRead More...

Question about panning on the T8S

Ok, so I can't really test this out at the moment, but I had noticed in another thread talking about panning hard right on microphones for mono. I am just curious what the benefits of this are and if this is how a microphone should be done as opposed to having it centered. Still learning as I go and so far this forum has been very helpful in me learning about what I need to know. Thanks! edit title: Previously "Question about mics" Bose Pro Community AdminRead More...
Hi hberube, Short answer - based on how you're using your T8S ( Aux outputs ), you're fine with everything with the pan centered. The hard panning is primarily for third party mixers connecting to a mono L1, (and the T4S/T8S) - more to be conscious about where you've got things panned. Let's say you've got the L1 connected to the T8S Right output. If you have things panned up the middle, you'll be fine. If you pan everything hard Right, you'll be fine. If you have inadvertently panned...Read More...
